which volts are more correct the ones you get in bios or the ones you get from multimeter ?
Looks like RMA for me as well. I will buy a new PSU anyway because I feel the 480w I got is not enoigh and see if it is the PSU (I doubt).
It will be corsair 750+ or PC Power & C 750+ so I have plenty of power and avoid running with 480w basically on the edge.
Yeah, DFI I liked everything from the moment I opened up the box. Board looks quality made and in taiwan ... but this problem killed the dream for me.
Hopefully it will get sorted and RMA service will be quality as well and I will be back online in a few days MAX.
multimeter more accurate as per my findings at http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html (very bottom of page) :) Of course this is assuming you have a decent and accurate multimeter
yeah looks like RMA time and quality psu will go along way too :)
yeah when it's stuck at 88 on LED code
not sure on secondary RTC reset as no where in manual it says 88 code is related to secondary RTC reset ??
From your experience with DFI guys, you think PC P&C / Corsair at 750w+ is the best choice? I need solid quality.
With DFI boards from P35, X38, X48 and now X58 i'm using Corsair HX620, Corsair HX1000 and Silverstone OP1200 without problems.
I'm done with OCing the CPU & RAM, and doing some 3D-testing. I have connected Corsair HX 1000w fdc connector to the board too.

hello!
i'm going to buy this awesome board next week!
and i have a few questions
-will be 3x1gb ram enough under vista (games, films, ant other home use,
and what memory u may recommend, for ex i lean to corsair TR3X3G1600C8D or TR3X3G1866C9DF
or maybe one of the highest kingston hyperx?
- do i need additional backplate for cpu (with waterblock)?
- and do i need to watercool southirdge?
hmm question again
what does ppm stands for
and what does rank interleave setting?? whats the default 1way 2 way 4 way??
For the records,
I re-builded my ASUS system with the Tagan PSU (used with DFI) and it worked fine. I did not boot an OS as I tested with minimal setup but monitor had signal and got to the "No Operating System ... " point.
DFI has been sitting without battery, jumper at 2-3 reset bios, and no power conectors for 10+ hours. I tried again after I verified the PSU, no power up still fails.
Power LED on top of the RAM is lit after I press the power button which implies that the board "powers up" but is pretty dead in practise.
Just to make sure, I will now measure the PWR_OK on the PSU to see if it is high to ensure the mobo has the "green light" to power up. Who knows ...
PS: I wish I had time to debug these things as I like electronics, but the HUGE problem is that this is supposed to be my main workstation and I am now stuck on my laptop :p Hows DFI RMA, can I hope for a new one in few days?
my rma came back and the buzzing's gone, but the power HDD is still permanently on (even when the computer's off) and the hdd led is permanently on once the computer's on, even with the latest bios. is it just me? i'm using a HAF 932 btw
do you guys use IDE mode or AHCI ? For AHCI which drivers do you use ?
i rmaed with ewiz, took 1 week and 5 days
running at this right now:
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1060/205x21.jpg
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/205x21.jpg/1/w828.png
was also able to get to:
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=518306
4.4....still testing :)
my UT will back after tomorrow :D
what is the best bios for 965 guys ?
does someone disassemble stock cooling (remove heatpipes from sb, nb, pwm), what is the quality of stock thermointerface? is it necessary to change it to smth like mx-2 or i may leave just how it is?
eva and praz..
y does this mobo doesnt read the bclk 200 and always 199.8..
isnt this a issue or just software reading incorrectly??
I'm not sure if the clock generator is set in this way. It shows correct/exact numbers for BCLK 211 and 213, but all others (that i have tierd) has a tendency to drop a bit.
hmmm dk doesnt seems to have that issue..
arent they suppose to be using the same clock generator?
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=215411
btw eva
to pass linx i had to pump more nb voltage compared to what was require for memtest hci 1000% and prime
I should have this board set up by the weekend along with the rest of the system, and hopefully will be able to post some figures and help out if maybe

Thanks Grinch. Just waiting on a few more parts to come from the US and I'll be posting as soon as I can
my batch : 3836A594
I am about to get my system together and start playing with this board; from everything I read it sounds like I should leave all the jumpers alone (CPU_VTT and CPU FSB in particular). Can someone confirm that? And if everyone leaves them alone, what exactly are they for?
Also, I noticed that the 2/17 bios was officially released (today?). Should I go strait to 217 or stick with 114 for now?

Question for MEM-gurus
Everest is reporting some very high MEM, L1 and L2 performance, which it is too good to be true.
Everest has been reporting "sane"-values most av the times, but somehow it is reporting some "insanely high"-values in some BCLK/multi. I tested the system with memtest right after the benchmark to see if there is something wrong, but it is passing. And everything else seams to be working fine, no symptoms for bug. Somehow Everest see much higher "CPU FSB" and "Memory bus speed" in some specific multi/BCLK-combinations(but not all of them)
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/530/memtest8.th.jpg
Could somebody explain the reason for this?
Ok folks just finished testing beta 2/27. My oc doesn't work with 2/17 and 2/27 however 1/14 bios works just fine.
What is the cause for 94 post code?
Im trying to run my 295 with my 24/7 overclock(+15h prime stable), but i cant load windows, and 94 appear in the post code display. No problems with stock settings and 295, and oc worked perfect with my 4870 1gb. Any idea?
argh!
My Core i7 is a crap! I can't pass over 4.2GHz! (200x20 + Turbo 200x21)!!!
Any ideas?
Thx!
ByE!
is there something wrong with prime95 25.9
cause always has inconsistency
prime95 25.8 np.
hmm found out the reason
apparently its because of 1N setting
eva i can run prime stable for the gt at chn interleave 6, rank interleave 4 2N
memtesthci/memtest 86 1N no issue but prime is no go..
any suggestion??
rank interleave and chan interleave settings?? for 1n??
or is there some other settings??
also the 1n setting prime95 25.8 pass
but fails in for prime95 25.9
Hi...is there somebody could help me with this kind of trouble...
I'm using i7 920 right now (S**K batch 3836B037)
When I'm using Biostar T-Power X58 I could make my procie run @ 3,8ghz BCLK 200x19 and RAM @ 1600 8-7-6-15 trfc 60 Uncore 3200
with vcore 1,312v (LOAD), vdimm 1,62v, vtt/qpi 1,34v
But now with my DFI UT X58 I can't run at that speed anymore coz I'd always had randomized BSOD and restart itself when I test with Prime95...
with the same setting or even I pushed my voltage more than that, but I still having that problem...
Please somebody help me...
Need some help guys with oc for some reason can't push beyond 3.8ghz

hi all,
I rma'd a ut-58-t3h8 recently because some wierd issues. When i connected a 120mm low rpm ledfan to the NB fanheader and have the bernsteinaudiomodule connected. The fan kept spinning after i turned off my computer. Yesterday i got a brand new board and i was verry happy about it... till i saw the exect same NB fan issue as my previous board. What can i do???? the board where both the same revision i think r58. the issue isn't there when i remove the bernsteinmodule. I have a video(mp4) so you can see my problem.....
thanx in advance.
this is the link of the video!!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7FxKi3GL24
sjakie666..
interesting..
which one is the fan header.
is the one near to the nb heatsink or the one to the pciex 1
i have a pump connected to the pciex1 and a nmb delta fan to the one near the nb heatsink..
no probs with them.. i guess u tried other fans??. since its weird and all..
Anyone in here has used both DFI and eVGA x58 boards. I am about to get one to play a little since the confidential has a long road to reach Greek market. Do u have any recommendations on which is a better board. I know that this is a DFI thread but i hope that you will reply to me honestly :)
the one just above the pciE 16x next to the floppy power connector....
first i used a 80mm fan but it needs more volts to start turning so u only saw him trying to start. with this low rpm fan it just goes on and on and on....
and it only happens when my audiomodule is connected. even wierder is when i pull out the floppy power connecter the fan turns FASTER.
i'm lost..... i think im gonna buy me a GB or rex2 :(
Anyone with a gtx295? Im tired of 94 post code when i try to run my oc(works perfect with 4870 1gb), and i canīt find any reference to this in the manual.
Did you try setting lowgap to 2176 or higher? How's your power draw? I know my gtx295 and 920 processor pull around 425watts on stock settings under full load (prime95 blend) not to mention any graphics loads will put it even higher.
Good luck
-=Mark=-
ps. try with no OC for a quick test if lowgap doesn't work.
my multiplier 21 drops to 20 under load even though vista set to high performance ? is there a way to make it stay at 21 ?
interesting thanks for that info :)
Congrats and welcome to DFI X58 family :)
definitely 3836A are sweet batches!
just leave the jumpers alone you don't need to touch them... no idea why they exist though.
You mean 2/27 ? Haven't tried 2/27 and I skipped 1/14 but might go back to that bios to see how my Corsair Dominator GT 2000Mhz 7-8-7-20 and Kingston T1 HyperX 2000Mhz 8-8-8-24 kits do.
had that happen to me once with 35k read in everest LOL, just everest being buggy i guess heh
interesting, haven't tried 2/27 but one 2/17 right now and not getting much head way in oc'ing Corsair Dominator GTs, so might try 1/14 again and see.
no idea, but as mentioned tri lowgap of 2176-2560 and see.
no problem here but is that with small ffts or blend or both ? 32bit or 64bit OS with 32bit or 64bit prime95 ?
i just leave interleaves on AUTO... i think it comes down to individual i7 cpu and individual kit of memory as to what it's 1T vs 2T max. Weird about different versions of prime95 though
tried on different bios version ?
too low cpu vtt and maybe loosen main timings and tRFC at 88 ?
tried a different fan ?
Jody/3oh6 has both boards and he likes them both - i think for x58 boards DFI and EVGA are current leaders in terms of max bclk and memory clocks.
set vr limit max = enabled as per info at http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html
i love this mobo.
its just so easy.
ut already sold out in malaysia in the first 2-3 days.
dfi has definitely made a comeback with this one.
eva yup i think ure right but weird right
for vdimm examaple bclk 201 ram 1004 7-8-7-20 1T will pass memtesthci this time did up to 2000% percent thats 10 hours on bench rig,
heck was gaming with it for hours np
memtest86+ did 8 passes on vdim 1.638 dmm, bios read 1.64, set 1.665. but will fail prime and linx. down it to 200 bclk ram 1000mhz 7-8-7-20 2T passes everything..
tested on all the feb bioses.
still think its a subtiming issue or the rank issue.
the r2e had a option for 1N issue.. forgot what is called but tweaking it made the difference
hmm rusty before u clock try this ok
this is the best way to clock i7's x58 mobos with superstable settings. its just so damn easy.
u need to eliminate each voltages first before u go to find the next.
first find the vcore. try this reasoning first
Vcore
ure base uncore is 2400 and with vtt 1.2v. then look at ure dram most of the dram ic's are rated 1333mhz etc
so y not try a low multi with ht on/off say 18, dram 1200mhz bclk 200, uncore 2400, vtt set 1.23, dram set 1.53, dram timing 9-9-9-24 2T tRFC 88 ( depending on ure ram or go 10-10-10-24 2T,) set a vcore and run linx or ibt full mem stress.. make sure u use up atleast 95% of ure mem available. for 3gb try 2.5gb(10-20rounds) stress and 6gb around 5.2gb stress ( 5-10rounds).
take note i7 voltage is very heat dependent so the better ure cooling the lower ure voltages.. dont ak me why.
example i can pass 3 rounds of at 4.2ghz ht 0ff at 1.32v but to pass 10 i need around 1.37v..
u can lower this later once u have found ure vtt, dram voltages.
VTT
ok say once u found ure vcore example 3.8ghz bclk 200 . so say example for most ppl out there using ram at dram 1600mhz CL8.
up ure dram to 1600, uncore 3200, set ure dram at relax timings first example 9-9-9-24 2T tRFC 88. vdimm at 1.65v, vtt 1.36, ioh/ich 1.15
this time run memtest hci. for 3gb say around 2000% around 2 hours and 6gb around 300 % around 2 hours.try to stress the cores and ram wit this if ure runing with ht so run 8xmemtest hci with equal amount so ure mem usage atleast 95%. very easy to find the vtt.
reboot issue, hang, just up ure vtt. errors are usually vdimm and timings. ioh voltage sometimes errors and also u can see ure usb devices acting weird.
VDIMM and Memtimings
CHange ure vdimm to either set 1.65/1.665v with the rated timings.
FOr me currently running prime95 25.9 64bit blend. IF u can pass the first group of 15 mins.. ure good to go. Errors in the this first group of test the 1024kb is vdimm, mem timings related. bsod/hang.. 1n/2n and vtt related.
double check with memtest hci and memtest + to be sure.
try this way rusty cause showing a template.. everybody has to guess on what u have a confirmed voltage and etc etc and guess whats not stable.
hope this helps.
doing it this way u eliminate each voltages
and also u will know which voltage is insufficient for the problem that occurs etc.
after than if linx is not the vcore that u want.. hey try others like prime etc and lower the voltages to what is acceptable and stable for u.
btw cpu setting disable everything except executable bits.. ht on/off up to u. ppm disabled also.
when ure done with the above run linx/ibt again.. take note because of the increase in vtt .. ure proc temps and system temps will go up
thanks eva2000 & cstkl1
I will try that
p.s. has anyone experienced this multiplier 22 ?
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5527/tet.jpg
I tried with 2176-2560 and nothing. Sometimes even with stock settings i canīt load windows. I need to enter bios, save and exit(donīt need to change nothing), and works perfect.
This board is killing my patience :shakes:
I will try with last bios, if donīt work, iīll email dfi about the issue.
Edit:flashed with last bios but without success. Code 94 still appears with any kind of oc.
as i stated earlier.. i have problems with a fan still spinning after i shut down my computer. i tried a other psu tonight and the issue is still there.. i even tried other electric points in my house! i'm lost.. anyone got more idea's???
thnx in advance
how do you do to put the 22x on the i7 920?
Thx!
ByE!
lol maybe we can change boards.... i don't wanna change if it's rev 56/58 :S
;)
hmzzzz..... dammit.. ;). i'm waiting for a replay of dfi. then i'll decide what to do with this board..
My patience is dead... really.
I put MAX Vcore and MAX VTT... the mems to the min of Mhz and... nothing, I can't get more than 4360MHz (207.6x21)...
I can't get 209 or 210. I put the mult. to 18, 19... but I can't pass of 209 of BCLK... what can I do?
I have it watercooled. The mems are the 3x2GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum OCZ 7-7-7-20 at 1600 1.65v.
I've tried with HT off but nothing... anybody helps me?
I've tried too all your BIOS configurations but... the systems doesn't boot up. When the Windows Booting Screen appears... it freezes and restarts.
Thx for all people!
ByE!
GTX 295 has been working fine with several different BIOS-settings that i have tried and never had such a issues that you have. I had to save the BIOS (again) a few times, but it has always been due to hardware-changes (one time, even after installing a new fan  ), but never related to GTX 295. Nothing. I tried 2048, 2176, 2560, and even 3072.
Cold boot(i always switch off psu in the night) with stock settings->code 94. I need to enter bios, save and exit, and all works.
Boot with oc settings->code 94. No matter what i do, after the first boot screen pc stops with f.....g code and black screen. I tried different settings, even 200x16, without success. Is annoying :(
I think my board won a travel to rma.
RMA time then
Hello all and nice to meet you here. Yesterday I bought this DFI and its paired with an 920 3842A and Adata 6Gb 2133X. Since i run with intel stock cooler atm, cause i wait for my new case, i made some mild oc tests to see what this baby can do. I must admit that this combo is really sensitive in voltage adjustements. But i have two questions atm: 1. Is it normal that DFI Led screen post FF while in normal operation under win? Thats what its supposed to show? 2. Currently testing 21x181, cpu 1.25v idle-1.22v load, VTT 1.26v idle/load, 1.55v dimm at 1800c9. Is it normal to need more vtt than vcore?
hope i am not quoting wrong but eva did mention something about vtt to vcore..
but generally dude.. x58 is pretty straight forward in eliminating voltages thats the cause of the problem. this mobo has very little flux and almost exact voltage which helps a lot in doing this.
try the few above post for suggestion.
cause question like this is so vague and ppl have to assume u found the right vcore for ure cpu speed, u found the right vdimm, etc etc etc before somebody comments on what vtt should be set.
unless u can be specific and mention that u already found the vcore with this test etc and the dram speed and timing etc etc..
nice rams again.
cause the general consensus is going to say the vtt is too low
but from what i have seen with eva and others posting.. every proc vtt voltage is a mystery.
btw mine also runs with ff posting
I gauss VVT would be very dependent on your CPU-batch, but mine (3837B017) is not so sensitive to VVT @3.8GHZ and would prime with almost any VVT, but i ended up with 1.24/1.26 (Vcore/VVT Load). But it gets very picky at higher speeds (@4GHZ and above) and it will prime only withe 1.32v-1.34(VVT load) and then the Vcore flips between 1.32-34v too. I believe my CPU-batch likes the VVT to be "one notch" above the Vcore, not under or too much above it.
Thanx for the replies guyz but atm with this cooling, there is not much testing i can do since i idle at 51C and trying to run Linx on the second pass i was already at 82C. Wish i had my watercooling ready :(
Ok, i am dead happy with botht the board and the cpu atm. General work in vista like browsing, music etc at 21x191 ht off at 1,3vcore, 1,28vtt. But i dont dare to even start any stress program, temps would be scary :p:
What program shall i use to test strictly the vcore?
I'hve been using CPU-Z and Everest to read Vcore, at both have shown the same as DFI's Smart Gradien all the time.
82'C isn't too bad for full-load (prime/Linx). i7 should tolerate up to 100'C without taking damage(according to Intel) . I personality consider it as safe 24/7 up to 85'C full-load-temp, but some says even up to 90'C. I'm still in CD2-fear and keep it under 85'C for 24/7. It runs much cooler with 4 core (HT:off) and a good air-cooled system should handle 1.3v easily, i belive.
Is it normaly to become an bluescreen when vcore is set to low?
I got a pretestet cpu here, its tested @ 1,296v for 3 hours prime, if i set this voltage i got a bluescreen after a few minutes prime.
Another problem i have, my memory modules are Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3-1600 CL8 @ 1,65v.
I managed to boot this settings only for one time and its primestable.
After i rebooted to check another thing, my pc hangs @ windows start, also tried with same settings again but it doesnt boot. :(
I have this issue. When i go lower than 1.2v on core the vtt althought is at 1.21v in bios, it drops at the same voltage as the vcore. Is this normal? I wanted to try the lowest vcore for 3,8Ghz and spotted this problem :(
I just saw this while looking for something else. Here's my solution to installing a Swiftech MCW30 on my DFI UT X58 Northbridge.
One short question because I'm a little bit confused about the sense.
What'S the difference between core and uncore and what are the influence of both?
Because cooling the NB also lowers the temps of the PWM.

tip #28 and #29 http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html

High PWM (System) Temps tip #1:It does seem the NB heatsink has a heatpipe that extends to the mosfet heatsink from these 2 photos of the cpu socket area - side view and top view. It would also explain why, adding a fan over NB heatsink and dropped SYSTEM (and PWM) temps at idle from 57C to 44C and load temps from 70C to 55C for SYSTEM and 46C to 39C for CHIPSET temps as seen here. Update: Got confirmation Smartguardian SYSTEM temp = PWM temps and CHIPSET temp = NB temps.
High PWM (System) Temps tip #2: As mentioned above, if you're experiencing high SYSTEM (PWM) temps under cpu load, it's highly recommended to have a fan over NB and PWM areas. But it's also highly recommended to install the included FLAME FREEZER heatpipe based heatsink with decent TIM paste. I used Artic Ceramique on my FLAME FREEZER heatpipe which attaches to I/O connector area.
yikes missed that part..
hmm but that much of a difference..
find that very interesting.
in fact almost suprising
that the chip thats under the nb is cooled by less delta than the pwm when the nb is cooled actively.
hr05 should fit right??
Problem solved. I donīt know why it fails with 295 and no with 4870, but out of the case pc works perfect, no codes or issues even with my oc profile. Maybe the weight of the new card or something
Advice;
If you experience code 94, try your pc out of the case.
Mine wouldn't go over 170 bclk with the QPi Frequency @ auto...With the lowest qpi multi (for now) overclocks as it should...Strange mobo :p
So i read that reduction of vdroop can be stressful on the pwms n mosfets, I was wondering if it is safe to disable vdroop control on the dfi board 24/7, it seems to hold the voltages more stable under load, but seeing as my SYSTEM temperatures are going up to 70 under load, is the extra load going to be safe? Secondly, I can't seem to get my bclk above 190 stable, any suggestions?

I'm running ocz Platinums rated at 1600mhz 7-7-7-24, batch is 3841A522 I think, the last 3 digits i'm unsure about. I've done memtest and it passes multiple passes at 200bclk, but I just can't seem to stabilize it in windows, crashes within seconds under load, I've tried raising vcore, vtt and both at the same time to no avail.
Also I noticed that on SG, my VTT and VDIMM IS quite a bit lower than the one in bios, i set vtt to 1.31v, on SG its 1.24v under load, I set the vdimm to 1.68v in bios and on sg it is 1.64v, which one's more accurate? I saw Eva's post on i4memory and it seems that his SG reports values close to the ones he set, at least closer than mine, I'm using the 2/17 bios.
I tried putting the Flame Freezer on but can't get it seated properly. It just dangles there and moves around basically if you even touch it a little. Maybe it's meant to be like that but I get that cheap feeling about it..
