CDW / Extera - How is this bios differnet from those posted by Stilt or Denny?

I don't know of its faster but i did that hex mod
on a 875/1200 bios downloaded somewhere
Different people are running it now !
like Extera's cards are running fine :)
And hits the 25000k in 3dmark06 with a Yorkie
No need for hex mod!
You can edit the bios clockspeeds with this:

Ive never been able to get that 3870 BIOS editor to generate a valid BIOS....atiflash and winflash both report invalid VBIOS
Hmm..bios editor worked fine for me. I flashed both my cards to 890/1290 just fine. The problem was teh card performed well in single.. but in CF I had to drop the speed. Trying to find the max speed right now.
When you guys OC your CF.. how do you adjust the speeds on both cards? Is there one place where you can adjust both cards at the same time, or do you have to adjust each card separately, like the fan rates?
Ton
you have to adjust clocks for each card (CCC or Rivatuner)

No , just the first Two adapters (Plug& Play Monitor and the Predefined Monitor)

you can choose in Overdrive the card you want to Overclock

Mascaras,
Thanks for the screenies :) I will give it a shot tonight. I think i was benching asymetric last night. that would explain some of the "Weirdness" I was encountering :)
Once I get the max CF Speeds in place, I can try to do the vMods next :D

another thing , To crossfire work properly the Catalyst A.I must be in STANDARD Mode and CF Enable in CCC

Thanks mascaras...... after I got home from work I was thinking about it and tried to the drop down....... :D
anyone already tryed Auto-Tune in CCC ??
my card was already at 950Mhz then i decided stop going any further
940Mhz

i think Auto-Tune not working OK and its very dangerous , mainly for memory ..........

Does AI have to be in standard mode or just enabled?
standard or disabled.
Crossfire doesn't work well with advanced AI enabled? I tried two HD 3850s under Vista x64 @ 730|1000 with Overdrive and they did 16.5K.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=4420651
The "unkown mobo" is a BX2 :p: Guess I will go back and try standard.
They recommend that AI is either disabled or in standard mode.

(Sorry for stealing your picture mascaras)
I ran it again and it was higher
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=4422084
16761 vs 16557 for the first.
Btw, do overclocking in Crossfire with Vista 64bit work well now?
Thanks guys, that cleared things up.
@Blacklash, was that run in standard mode or disabled for AI. Disabling the AI should give you the highest score.
Might be me that have some strange issues here... I have two 3850 256mb and running CF. I can only clock one card with rivatuner with this BIOS. Also, I can not clock any card with CCC.
Is there any solution for clocking both cards exept with flashing BIOS with fixed clocks?
Thanks for sharing though!!
Regards / Anders
mascaras: auto-tune does not work correctly, at least it didn't for me. It put my core about 50Mhz beyond my tested stability which instantly caused my system to lock up and reboot.
As long as you disable driver check via f8 during post you can overclock a single card with Rivatuner. If you are using Overdrive from the CCC you need not do that and you are limited to manually setting 730 on the core with the HD 3850. You can get both cards to OC though. The bench I posted earlier was 730|1000 for both cards done from the CCC.
I can't get my second card to OC correctly with Rivatuner. I set the clocks then when I apply it drops back to stock.
I am hoping W1zzard @ techPowerUp! releases a version of ATi Tool that allows me to get my second card well. I'd love to have access to boost the voltage too.
I thought people were saying you could get crossfire to run with either AI set to standard or disabled. Running a singe card I get a higher score with AI disabled. Looks like that may not be the case for crossfire, but thanks for giving it a try, I'll be getting my second card soon, so was curious.
To Crossfire work properly = catalyst AI standard
if you disable catalyst A.I = i think only 1 card score
yep , single card with catalyst A.I disable always give + score
why dont you OC with CCC your second card????
with a OC bios you can go to 1500mhz core and 1400Mhz memory
CCC using Bios 830Mhz/1200Mhz

Stock cooling too? Whats the temp @ load? Anyway, nice clock.

WOW KWSW!! what make is that and where did u buy it from!!! i want one!!
 Those are nice clocks KWSW! I've got my reference Gecube 3870 running at 957Mhz Core (actual) and 1233MHz RAM (actual) with the standard unfixed BIOS. Is there any chance you could extract the BIOS from your Turbo III OC'ed version and make it available to us? I would like to try it on my reference Gecube card :D Have you tried loading the OC'ed cards BIOS onto your reference Gecube 3870?
My 1st post here, hello world :>
I got an X-Turbo III too, this is its bios: http://www.fileshack.us/get_file.php...70XT10.073.bin
It seems I can't get over 891MHz stable with my card (on Vista 64, Maximus Formula 0907, C2D E6750@3.6GHz@1.5v, Black Dragon 2x2 @ 900 @ 5-5-5-18 @ 2.0v). I then tried removing its cool HSF to replace the thermal slime with AS5. No luck with this, still stuck at 891.
The bios version is 010.073 and CCC lets me go to 885/1200 maximum (I tried the oc beyond this limit using rivatuner).
Any suggestion? :>
sry for OT but i got the the same problem with Asus HD2400pro 256mb, maybe some1 can mod the bios to get over 860 core?
thx
Thanks for the file Ratatosk  Now I just need to work up the courage to flash it with the newer BIOS as I've never done that to a video card before  It's weird that CCC only lets you go to 885/1200 because mine shows 885/1387 even though the BIOS is limited to 862Mhz core. Maybe the BIOS determines what speeds are available in the CCC??
As for you being unable to go over 891Mhz core speed, try manually raising the fan speed in Rivatuner to keep the temps down. If that doesn't help then the GPU needs more voltage so the only option is a voltmod.
The "760" BIOS from here-
http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
Cards in my sig will do just over 17k in 06 support by a Q6600 @ 3.53GHz on Vista x64. XP would be plus 500-750pnts.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=4459470
do any of these BIOSes have a more aggressive fanspeed profile? i'm using stock cooling on my 3870's and want a new BIOS that forces 60% fanspeed, either when i start 3D clocks or at a certain temperature threshold. RivaTuner isn't so hot with CrossFire - i have to manually force fanspeed up and down before and after running 3D apps. i'd like fanspeed to be more aggressive when in 3D mode without having to run a third party app.
I just replaced my 8800GTS with a HD3870 and wanted to c how good it overclocks.
I installed rivatuner 2.06 but when I click on customize to overclock I don't have anything except for low level refresh settings, desktop schemes and diagnostic , I have the lastest CAT 7.12 installed.
Is anyone having similar problems? (I tried reinstalling both the driver and RT)
i need a more accurate OC tool hehe
thanks a million in advance :)

great temp with the HR-03. that's awesome. i still can't get RivaTuner to work with both my cards with an automatic fan profile. if there aren't any pre-made BIOSes with better fanspeed control, is there a BIOS editor out there so a nub like myself can try to mess with it? i'll probably sell my cards when the next gen comes out, so i really don't feel like spending $100 on aftermarket cooling for them. i just want a BIOS that forces 60% fanspeed when the GPU starts to warm up.

I know im late to the game posting but Im looking for a bios that adjust the GPU voltage for me. Ive tried the pencil mods and they dont seem to really help.
Both my cards have the revised bios for the divider issue but im capping out at 22700 on 3dmark06 and going from 864/1350 to 877/1350 doesnt improve my scores at all...
Thanks...

Got my new card today after my cat(!) killed the one before this.
I flashed it with the iax-tech 860/1200 BIOS. I ran 3Dmark at 891/1341 but the second time I tried it everything locked up, Ill try it later tomorrow. Pretty good for such a cheap card:) Maybe Ill try a volt mod but its pretty good as it is for now. This is my first post here, thank you all for a great forum!
Interesting...
I appear to have degrading performance on this beast. After the intial flash I was benching at 877/1350 - 1360 fine but after a few days of rigorous benching it is now struggling for stability at 864/1350. It will run 864/1350 just fine in 3dmark06 but locks up in 3dmark05 and sometimes in AM3...
HI all just received my 3x3870 powercolor zerotherms... stock clock 800/1200
well none of them wotking properly... 2x working at 800gpu and 1170 mhz mem... should be 1200mhz, 3 one is just epic fail which fails miserably at 800/1126mhz... random instability etc ... + there are now screws for mem cooling plate... other two has them... IM so mad atm... paying for speed... getting what?
I used the bios lightman posted Sapphire_HD3870_fixfan_unlock.bin on my two
Sapphire 3870 and it fixed the 862 GPU Clock Limit but also fixed the fanspeed its no longer at 25percent on both cards now it varies beetween 40-50percent on both cards keeping them in the upper fourties.Hope that helps and I was also wondering does the www.iax-tech.com bioses also have different fanspeed then the original?
that BIOS rocks. thank you Lightman and thank you Malik. it's quiet and keeps my GPU's under 60° full load. perfect. for those who want it and don't want to search for it, it's here:
http://www.mvktech.net/components/co...fan_unlock.bin
I have finally my Sapphire HD3870 :)
I flashed the bios posted in the first post into the card. the clock limit is indeed gone but overclocing this card is strange.
I use rivartuner to oc the card when I select 891 core it will set it on 891 core if I set it to 900 core the clock stays 891 if i set 903 core same problem when i choose 907 core it will set 904 core but my card can not do that stable is there a way that that gap can be fixed. these gaps are not only on that clock but the whole range. is that a known problem????
for the mem i din't tested further than 1300. I am happy whit this card his clocks but the fan speed is set at 100% and its loud!
So I need some after market cooling for this one.
Got my new card today after my cat(!) killed the one before this.
I see this image of the card killer laying and pawing at the dead card in a uncaring manner
Yeah, I had just put everything in my new case (Tt mozart) and was pretty happy with how everything turned out. Plugged everything in and fired up the computer. On the Mozart the PCI brackets are held in place by some plastic clips (retarded idea!). Well, not even five minutes had gone when the computer suddenly rebooted and everything went black. Looking down I see my 5 month old kitten standing on her hind legs pushing towards the PCI brackets and the one above the gfx card was missing. It fell down on my Hd 3870 and shorted it out! If the brackets had been tightened down by screws my cat could never have been able to push it out of place. Not much to do but send it back and put in one of my old cheap ass GeForce 7300 or whatever. Its the cat in my avatar btw (I have four)
my xaserIII had a system like that but also has the holes for fasteners
my last pet was a runt :banana::banana::banana:atiel,Honky,he could do hi honky and the charge whistle and the wolf whistle, and many times over and over when on a roll,we were buddies for about 21 years all told

Color me confused or maybe I am just an idiot.
I flashed the bios from the first post and Overdrive is still limited to 885, is there a secret handshake.
I have read page after page of this thread and that "should" be all that is necessary?
Thats normal if you want no limit on CCC use one of these.
http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
Yes they are. Have tried all of them and now using the 875/1250.
Hi there,
I'm a new owner of a nice rig, my bf and I built it and I'm trying to crank out as much from it as possible. He thinks I'm crazy.
I have 2xEAH3870 cards, and have flashed them using the winflash as described in this thread. Initially I thought I had made a horrible mistake, as I couldn't detect crossfire anymore, but with the reinstallation of the 8.1 drivers and hotfix I got crossfire working again.
Right now I'm worried that I may cook my cards, since ASUS Smartdoctor has stopped working (I assume it can't talk to the new bios on the cards).
Should I just use RIVA tuner? It seems that I have to specify fan controls in RIVA per card.
What about the overclocking? Do I have to clock up each card individually? Or is there a way to do it together (the CCC panel doesn't show any clock speeds above 885).
I've found this thread very informative, although I do worry I might fuxxor my system with all the tweaking options you guys present.
Cheers!
Your cards may have come with a bios revision new enough from the start that they did not require flashing.
You should always check that first.
The stock bios wasn't able to clock past the 862 limit, and I have successfully flashed and can clock up to 885 now.
Some wierd things are happening, GPU-Z can't identify Crossfire being enabled, and I am not able to clock the 2nd card with Rivatuner when in Crossfire mode.
3dMark06 scores are similar to the stock bios, at around 18,500, with Crossfire. Has anyone else had problems seeing their crossfire in GPU-Z, and/or being able to clock the 2nd card with Rivatuner?
I suppose I've been successful, enabling higher clocks - but I can't see any real-world benefits yet.
WTB voltmod?
kinda bummed out about my OC 841/1241 CF sapphires, seems to be about all i can go before it goes unstable after flashing bios to the fixed fan version. Before I could have sworn it would do 850 on the core with stock bios. I've tried various bios and no improvement could it be where i'm flashing from windows? and to boot last two nights the room temp has been 49*F with two 120mm fans blowing on my cards in a stacker 830.
and ATItool doesn't run for me does anyone else having this problem. it will show in the tray but acts like it freezes when i try to use it. Its getting rather old having 3dmark crash or COD4 crash and having to fix my resolution and clocks.
Have you performed the pencil mod? It helped me a good deal on my HIS cards.
http://www.blazingpc.com/forum/showt...321/index.html
How are you trying to flash them?
If WinFlash doesn't work, you may have to use ATIFlash from a DOS/Win98 command prompt boot disk.
I found with the 875/1250 BIOS I had major problems with WinFlash, where it would ramp up CPU to 100% and never actually start/read the cards.
For those using CCC to clock a dual-card set up you actually HAVE to enable Crossfire to select each card in ATI Overdrive, otherwise only one card is available.
Regards,
10e
are you sure you don't just have Windows set to hide file extensions? i'm sure the file has an extension.
ive tried many of the bios' ive found in this thread, and i havent found one that is version .071 and will let ATI CCC go over 860. (i have Sapphire 3850 256mb) I can hit 930 in Rivatuner usuing the .071 verison(CCC is limited to 730) but i would really like to have the low power 2d and 3d settings that CCC gives. I might just not be usuing riva right, but i was wondering if there was a .071 unlocked bios that would work with ATI CCC floating out there somewhere.
Edit: Supid CCC. 2d clocks stable at 950, 3d clocks only stable at 860, same problem as everyone else. Not willing to flash new card for miniscule gains... Back to working on CPU clocks.
I may have a change of heart... I am finding that 875/1250 (set in CCC) is stable to play games, but sometimes small artifacts appear. That is not acceptable to me. Will bios flash improve voltage at all? Or does bios flash just fix stock clocks?
does a bios with fixed bug exist also for 3870x2 cards, cause i need one for mine :)
So I got in on the BB VisionTek $129.99 deal and of course I wanted to tinker with the card. I used the bios found here used RBE to modify the fan speed using the original bios as the values keep the card real cool then used atiwinflash as follows: c:\fullpath\atiwinflash -f -p 0 c:\fullpath\bio.bin to force flash and the card is working fine. Before 840/1170 was the max values for overdrive, now...well have a look for yourselves.
P.S. I've included the bios with the modded fan speeds. AND OF COURSE, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES.
Hi all ,i am reading about this special bios to get past 862 clockspeed .
i am running a xpertvision Radeon 3870 card , with bios version 010.081.001.000.000000
my fan speeds are all fine atm . but i am hitting a wall at around 850 (could as well be 862)
my memory craps out at 1050mhz already , no cooling on them . (AND i just find out it is DDR3 , and not DDR4)
the core has a non standard cooler on it , which seems to keep the core quite cool even when running at 1.30v
the special bios seems way older than mine . Thus I am asking myself (actually i am asking you guys) : Is it smart to upgrade my current bios with this older version ?
thanks a bunch
hi ,
i will rephrase :
850 is my max stable oc with 1.25v on the core .
anything above will give me lots of vpu recovery errors , thus is not stable . or at least the ati driver doesnt think its stable and wants to recover something .
Then do i need to flash with .71 ? and when i do , will my fan go bananas ? are there modded bioses for my card (which has DDR3) ?
cause i am running a much newer build atm .81
that's the card
http://www.laptopsandpcs.co.uk/Shop/....0_Retail.html
I have the same problem with a 2400XT.
Can someone help me modding the bios to remove the limitation?
Thanks.
