i7 920 @22x CPU Multiplier Tests

Looks like there's more uses for Intel's Turbo mode on DFI UT X58-T3EH8 especially for single threaded benchmark/apps like Super Pi. In bios set Turbo enabled, EIST enabled, Set to 1 core enabled and you have access to fixed 22x cpu multiplier :cool:

Quick Prime95 @22x134 Bclk with DDR3-1600/3200 DRAM/Uncore frequency set in bios for 6x DRAM memory multiplier.

Will test more to see how far I can push cpu and Bclk with 22x multiplier :D

Also flashed from intial 12/18 official bios to 12/31 beta bios for improved DDR3 memory compatibility as well as support for latest setFSB 2.1.88 :)

More 22x cpu multiplier results:

• With 22x multiplier, seems max bclk in memtest is 208 bclk compared to 21x multiplier and 224 bclk
• With 22x multiplier, max windows bootable is well below 200 bclk, I booted into windows at 190bclk and using new setFSB 2.1.88 bumped bclk to around 200-205 for max screenshot and validation. Compared to 21x multiplier and 220bclk bootable from bios into windows.

@22x205 = 4515Mhz at 1.52v idle (vdimm = 1.875v bios)

Ok so trying to push the boundaries here a little – see below.
Trying to figure out if I can get 4.2 HT on - prime and linpack stable.
So, on air - linpack passed 5 runs but at an outrages temp of 100C about 10 times in quick hits– it is a wonder it did not blue screen or restart
I also ran prime for 5 minutes just for comparison – max temp was 90C, a full 10 degrees less!
So I don’t think this is a doable do on air but I think a good water setup might have a chance on this proc? Your thoughts?

eva2000 - do you like your 3520/SSD set up?
I have been very pleased with mine so far - see link in my sig.
Question - I was never able to figure out how to change the block size on the 3520 - what 3520 bios and driver are you using?
Mine is - HPT 3520 FW - v1.2.22.16, BIOS setting utility (driver?) is v1.3.1016
I wonder if a later bios/driver adds the ability to change block size?

Very happy with my 3520LF/SSD setup just wish i had 4x more SSD for 8xSSD raid hehe

eva - I think your later bios gets you the block size adjustment - time for me to upgrade that!
What block size are you using now?

Its the same on the GA Extreme. :yepp:

If only one core is enabled you get the x22 multi.

I'm not sure if you can trust that or not, i passed 50 runs yesterday on linX (2hr 50min~) then proceeded to crash after 9hr of blend. I know it's 3hr vs 9hr but from what pretty much everyone says 10 mins of linpack is supposed to be more reliable than 10 hours of blend. I don't know why but i had a feeling this would happen, i'll probably be sticking with prime after all.

Would anyone consider 1.45v on 965 cpu too high for a 24/7 set up?. Got it running really sweet at 4.2ghz prime stable HT off, max temps never exceed 70c.

Only reason for asking is a lot of you have really nice chips which need a lot less.

Thats after running prime for 8 hours in a pretty warm room. Idle temps are around 35-40c and load temps are 60-70c. Only thing in my system that could do with upgrading is the rad which is a bit outdated but its good enough as the temps are safe.

Its only the long term cpu volts that I'd like to know opinions on.

ranger07 - What are your multi's at?
rge helped me find a little trick that you might want to try.
At least for my 965, I found that running high bclock and low multi gave me much lower temp then the other way around - see below -

I agree - I doubt my 4.2/HT on would last an hour on prime.
I think I might drop the cpuv a couple clicks and see how far I get.
In any case i think water cooling should be in my future.
Regarding linpack and/or prime use - I think there is a failure mechanism that we just haven't figured out yet.

there is no "best" radiator..
though, if you haven't pciked up a CPU block yet, get the Koolance 350 waterblock, it actually slightly outperforms the GTZ on i7.
MCP655-B pump is good, you just can't change the speed. makes it difficult to bleed with a bad reservoir :(.

.. If your using low speed fans go for medium-count radiators.(IE: med speed yate loons)

@reverendMaynard,

Are you using the provided waterblock on the North Bridge, or are you using anything additional? I just purchased the GTZ water block for the cpu but I'm not sure what to do about the north bridge. It seems like it should almost use its own loop because of the hose restrictions.

128K is best :) didn't use a firmware/driver older than the latest so no idea if block size was selectable in previous firmwares heh

Good to know, shame can't get as high bclk as with 21x multi right now, maybe bios update will fix this heh.

I declared my 21x200 stable after 10hours of Prime.
HT on, 1.3875v on the CPU. Max temp was about 62C

So now Im working on 21x210.
I can boot / cpu-z validate / post this message at 1.425v on the CPU (with HT on), Idle at 32C

I am not using the provided nb block. On a 7/16 ID line that 1/4 would be a bit restrictive. Cpu only loop.

Whats your Max and Min temps in RealTemp 2.90 after a Prime test?

And whats the safe range for max temp on RealTemp? I got a reading of 78 max a minute ago at 4.025GHZ. Is that considered safe to use?

Just ran a full test of RealTemp with Prime95 to heat test it. Heres the results at 3.8ghz now.

My max in RealTemp from Prime is 62C, with LinX it get to 70C.
A "safe" temp to use... I think you will get different answers to that. I guess its personal, I would run a system that would get 70C max on Prime for everyday use. But it depends on how long you are expecting your CPU to last. 1-2 years or 5+ years?

How much vcore are you using? 1.385v? what kind of cooling are you on?

I'm using 1.35v for the CPU Voltage @ 3.8ghz right now, using a Noctua air cooler. I'd like to be able to run this system for at least 3 years (even if I upgrade I tend to keep old PCs for back up duty). Am I running too hot for 3.8ghz, I notice that you are cooler at a higher clock... are you on water then?

They are according to their sig :)

You seem to have average to expected temps for air cooling @ 1.35v. It's the voltage that will determine your heat, more than the clock.

1.35v and 78c max prime load are nowhere near the worry zones, it will probably out live you ;)

Good to know, thats a relief. Are there other voltages you can drop to help lower temps? Such as RAM, PLL, etc etc?
