His bank transfer method is quite good to use. Fast and safe etc.
He didn't want PayPal but everyone complained and asked for it.
Some pics with the MCW30 plumbed in...

What method is being used to remove the NB HS? It's been said to try to remove the NB HS before turning it on (thus heating up whatever TC/epoxy being used). However, when doing so is it any less difficult or does it pop right off with little effort?
Whats the name of the heatsink your using on the SB ?
I am jumping back over to this as my main thread again...
I am officially out of the Stock ROG club now. ;)
This is how I will be cooling my Maximus SE now...
For cooling my CPU:
D-TEK FuZion CPU Waterblock
For cooling my NB:
(1) EK-NB S-MAX Acetal block
For cooling my Mosfet's:
(1) Part # cpu-tri-40 - Thermalright HR-09S Mosfet Cooler - Slant Type
(1) Part # cpu-tri-41 - Thermalright HR-09U Mosfet Cooler - Upright Type
For cooling my SB:
(1) vid-22 Microcool Chipsink Southbridge Passive Heatsink (Might work on the SB, but might be too tall)
-or-
(1) vid-84 Enzotech Forged Copper Northbridge Low-Profile Heatsink (CNB-S1L) (This is the one that takes moding to make fit. Sweet low profile and copper a +)
Not sure which one I will end up using, but my parts have been ordered.
I am guessing that in the end when I have just CPU, NB, and GPU in my loop, being cooled by a WaterKegIII Xtreme should yield me some low temps...
I just hope my choice of Mosfet coolers will do a decent job for me.
well well well... you traitor! hahah looking foward to seeing your results and how well my stock setup blows yours away. :p: nah, but anywho, i really am looking forward to seeing your setup and temps (if it's worth it i might switch too)! good luck!!! :)
Thanks!!
I am wondering why Clunk had install issues with one of his:
Thermalright HR-09S Mosfet Cooler - Slant Type -or-
Thermalright HR-09U Mosfet Cooler - Upright Type
fitting correctly?
Thermalright thinks they will fit?
http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm
Select HR-09 under MOSFET COOLER on top left of screen, then scroll down under ASUS and select X38.
We see out Maximus is listed with this recomendation:
Maximus Formula: I/O Side mosfet HR-09 U TYPE2, Up Side mosfet HR-09 S TYPE2.
I hope they have good info up...
Looks like he had a bump in the road?
For my maximus formula here it is.
For cooling my CPU:
Vapor Phase Change by jinu117
And all ek for the finish
For cooling my NB:
EK-NB S-MAX
For cooling my Mosfet's:
2 x EK-Mosfet ASUS 3a (X38)
For cooling my SB:
EK-NB/SB ASUS 3
For cooling my HD2900XT:
EK-FCR600 CF Xtreme
The question would be if they wher both HR-09 U TYPE2
I have serious doubts on the accuracy of their compatibility list. I see the GA-X38-DQ6 is also listed and there's no way you can fit the HR-09 on the MOSFETs as the base is too wide, nor can you fit the HR-05 (either version) on the SB unless they provide a new retaining clip as the hole separation is shorter than any of the 3 clips they previously supplied.
Thanks for the info I think ..... :)
That dosen't sound good...
I just sent their support a note:
I was looking for compatibility verification on Maximus SE X38 mosfet cooler.
On the Thermalright web page it is listed that they will fit ASUS X38 mobo's like the Maximus SE.
http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm
Select HR-09 under MOSFET COOLER on top left of screen, then scroll down under ASUS and select X38.
We see out Maximus is listed with this recommendation:
Maximus Formula: I/O Side mosfet HR-09 U TYPE2, Up Side mosfet HR-09 S TYPE2.
I hope that is good info.
I have just ordered:
(1) Thermalright HR-09S Mosfet Cooler - Slant Type
(1) Thermalright HR-09U Mosfet Cooler - Upright Type
After I clicked 'buy' I found this....
Looks like 1 dude ordered these and 1 would not fit correctly?
http://www.clunk.org.uk/images/maxim...d/IMG_1085.jpg
Do you guys know for a fact that they will fit on the ASUS X38 Maximus SE?
I will post how they respond. :)
Taloman, why didnt you just use the stock heatsinks for the mosfets ? I'm pretty sure they are more than capable of cooling them. I'm also still curious as to which SB heatsink nikhsub1 is using as it doesnt appear to be the enzotech  . The one pictured looks like it doesnt need any modding at all.
The stock heat sinks might do fine, heck I still think the stock block might do OK?
I guess the same reason I jumped to the EK block over the stock, is the same reason I went with the Thermalright sinks. Just trying to give me more thermal room to play. ;)
As to why I didn't go for the mosfet water block too? I would say cost was some, but I think 2 mosfet blocks along with my CPU, NB, and GPU all being in my 1 loop might hurt my flow, and or temps a tad? I'm too new at the game to know for sure. I do think the Thermalright sinks should keep them a bit cooler than the stock sinks did.
Once I came to the harsh conclusion, that even if I decided to run the stock ROG cooling, it should still be re-mounted. That alone was giving 10 to 15 C lower temps in general. Then I figured if I was going to have to melt all the stock cooling off the mobo anyway, including the mosfet sinks, I might as well upgrade. Then we heard 20 to 25 C loaded temps with an aftermarket NB block, I had to jump. The EK black matches my D-tek black too, so that is why I didn't go for the clear. ;)
I am proud of my TJ09 and how much open air I have in it. I installed lots of fan's in the case alone. Most of my water cooling gear is external in the WaterKeg so it's even more uncluttered. I wanted an excuse to air cool something in the flippin case!! I guess the Thermalright sinks are it.
Fans I have installed in my system so far:
Cooling (Air):
(5) 120mm Scythe S-FLEXT Case Fan. (63.7 CFM/28 dBA) $70.00
(1) ZALMAN ZM-MFC1 Fan Controller Panel. (4 fan speed control, and 2 togle switches) $29.99
(1) Corsair ram fan CMXAF1 RTL. $19.99
(1) Masscool FD07015S1M3/4 RTL. $3.99
(1) Silenx Ixtrema Pro Series 40mm 14dBA 5CFM. $17.00
Now I just have to make sure I can get the sinks to fit, and installed correctly.
I am starting to wonder if my Silenx Ixtrema Pro Series 40mm fan, should now end up on my SB sink?
I ordered new thermal tape. Is that the best to use for attaching these sinks to the mosfet's?
I am using the SB block from my P5W-DH mobo...
Was she an exact fit with no moding?
Lookin good Nik, I like the tubing routing.
All have shipped
For cooling my NB:
EK-NB S-MAX
For cooling my Mosfet's:
2 x EK-Mosfet ASUS 3a (X38)
For cooling my SB:
EK-NB/SB ASUS 3

Type 3 has the shortest "big side" of 58mm and "short side" of 46mm. Types 1 & 2 each have "big sides" of 84mm. Type 2 has the longest "small side of 70mm while type 1 has a 61mm "small side", and type 3 has the smallest "small side" of 46mm.
I will look into what I used but I do remember the ones I used had clrearence issues with the slide on brakets around the rear mossfets so I made my own bracket from steel BBQ barb skewer with 3mm holes or through bolts from bottom. Thet fit so much snugger then ever. I had to do it first on my old ASUS A8N-SLI cause we had only the 1 ytpe to choose (the ones from my ASUS P5WDG2-WS) and had to even trim the copper base a notch to fit my bolts in.
Hope this helps, again, I will look if you dont find the right size by then.
Also, you can still get the Intel 82801 ICH9R iostar RAID driver installed on current OS but it is trickier, and especially sine we ahve no 2nd SATA controller to use. I'll explain more if needed, here for others or in PM if you'd like.
Good luck!
Well the ones I received look to be some version of a Type 2. At least I got that part right! We will have to see if they will fit on the mobo with no mods....
I just received (1) HR-09U L84 x W17 x H48mm,
and (1) HR-09S L84 x W32.3 x H48mm from FrozenCPU.
Has anybody tried this sizes out yet on the SE?
I will report back on how, and if they fit on the mobo correctly.
Should I use AS5, thermal paste, thermal adhesive, or thermal tape to mount these?
I have received no responce from Thermalright Support as of yet.
Hey guys, I got this board today and was having some thoughts about the barbs on the stock cooler. I have 7/16 tygon 3400 tubing, and I have been thinking of some way to avoid those ugly 1/2" -> 3/8" adapters.
I actually took the adapter tubing which you get from Asus, and simply pushed it into the 7/16 tubing. It was a nice and tight fit. If you touch those adapter tubings you will feel that they are quite stiff, so that would probably prevent leak. What do you think?
Not such a clean cut but you get it.

Ek Waterblocks show how look southbridge block on Asus Maximus Formula:
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7...installsl1.jpg
When i look and this picture - i think that ek adjust old block to new chipset. This move is of course good when you want cut costs. But why, when like mips-computer, ek can make some nice sb block:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8...musfulldl6.jpg
EK Waterblocks dont choose easy way !!!
:) :) :)
I hope that they will release SB block with right gaps to screw in straight :) But until this time we, (Malik and I) have to live with those crooked hehe.
I cleared the deck to make room for my EK NB water block in route...
It took a good 10 minutes with the hair dryer, before the stock goop let me gently wiggle the ROG cooling free.
Remove the 4 screws and all pins before starting.
Never pull up! Just gently wiggle side to side. It will start to move when it's ready....
Ware a glove as the sink get's hot with hair dryer heat blowing on it.
Mine was coaxed off successfully.
No damage was done.

I wan't to take that big chunk of Enzotech Forged Copper sink and just glue it to my SB using Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive, and not the pins at all.
They dont line up correctly, and might grind them off?
Would this be OK to do if I don't plan on removing it again?
Will it hold? The bottom of the sink is pritty smooth....
The Microcool Chipsink Southbridge fits just right, and uses thermal tape to connect to the SB.
This sink is not copper like the Enzotech, and stands higher in the air. It might hit a large card?
Like I said, I would rather use the Enzotech and glue it on 'for keeps' if the AS Thermal Adhesive does a decent job of transferring heat, and stayes strong when heatted up?
The Enzotech Copper sink is much heaveyer than the Microcool.
I don't think our SB get's that hot anyway....
Will it work? :)
By the way, it's confirmed my Thermalright's don't fit.
Too large for the Maximus SE.
