Now, is that 8k for the card or for the single gpu? If its the latter thats great! If its the former, my GTX260 gets a little over 7k, so thats sad. :(

Two gpu's ;)
300W is gaming draw, folding draw is quite a bit lower. Still, I don't feel inclined to fold on the GPU if I don't get credited accordingly. A 4870X2 should do something in the 11-12k range, and here I am, slouching along at below 3k (according to FAHmon) on GPU :(
The 8800 Ultra made close to 6k. A little 3d comparison? Vantage GPU score is 6800 for the Ultra, 15k for the X2 (both at stock clocks). Go figure
Hmm, I got my 4870x2 to folding with 2 clients on xp, could not get it to work on both in vista and was only getting 2500 ppd each client 5000 ppd total one card. That is why they are in the drawer and I have 8800s making over 5000 ppd each...
@catawalks, receive your present yet?? :)
Yeah RR they might not fold well relatively speaking, but they game well. Get some of your money back. never hurts to have money in the pocket instead of unused hw in a drawer ( xcept.. you'll hit yourself if the Ati client in a month get's a special surprise 100% speed boost or something  ) :yepp:
I did indeed. Just got it yesterday. Haven't hooked it up yet but I think that'll have to wait until early next week. I'm barely gonna be home until monday or tuesday night. :(
:eek2: Amazing, I think I'm either insanely in love with your drawers or insanely jealous of you. I wish I had parts like that laying around. Instead I have ISA sound/network cards and old P/2/3 machines just chilling.
If you were to get rid of some of those cards, what kinda prices would you be looking to get for them? Although I did just buy 2 3870's from WFO, who knows, maybe I should get a couple 3870x2's? Or maybe 4870x2's? lol....I gotta stop spending money.....nah.
What are forum wars if you don't mind me asking?
Link I played for OCC a couple times and the TRP this last time. I dont know why XS does not participate...Quote:
Forum Wars is an overclocking competition between forums who choose to take part. Each forum has it's own players competing against the other forums players in a series of Benchmarks or PC tests. These tests determine a point value for your systems performance level. To try and make this a balanced contest, competing systems are divided into classes / teams.
Lol it's a rather subjective matter, most of those people I think actually need to sell things before then buy the new one's
For them ( us.. if I still had things of worth laying around unused ) it's not the time going into it which matters, but the money we get back by doing so which is the most important. It's simple math, the time it costs to sell them and get their worth back, even when spend at labour would usually net us less then the money we earn with the reselling.
Consider yourself a lucky man  idk how your lovelife looks like though so luck is also subjective.. ;)
I know enough people still gaming on those cards though, good cards still :)
Though I keep telling them a 4850 would improve their experience so much for so litle money in comparison to what they paid for those 1900xtx's or xt's.
And nope they're not a member here, or atleast not of the kind that likes to burn hardware hehe. Can't afford that myself now :( *eyes 9600gt... keep living you hear.. no more memory corruption when I come downstairs ok
It's actually a good thing they don't fold anymore, don't think their performance/watt would be all that great
Thinking of running 2 instances of smp but haven't used it since GPU on nVidia happened. Can I do this with 3*gpu running on one core? can I just copy the first instance into another folder and re-config? Can someone remind me how to set the cores this would run on?
Uhm... linkage? That'd be a very interesting read to see these PPD on an ATI card. Additionally I only heard about trouble with setting up two instances on an X2, never saw someone actually do this.
For assigning cores and setting affinities you should go have a read over in this thread. I think it would be possible to set this up, even though I can only speak for two GPU and SMP's. I would setup one, then two, then three and let each configuration run a day or a bit more to see what gets you the most ppd. Keep us updated.
Edit: Oh, and I forgot, copying over for SMP installs doesn't work, you need to install each of them, in your user directory. And you need to run the MPI install steps on each of them, just check what coo-coo-clocker linked one post down. The only thing you can copy over are the cfg's, just set them up accordingly.
For XP-based systems, the GPU client will need a lot of CPU (and my experience is that with these lastest GPU cores that Stanford has been sending, this is getting worse)... so unless you're running vista you won't really be able to run dual-SMP and multiple GPU clients effectively.
Assuming you are running vista, and you have quad-core (or better! new i7's are available at retail starting tomorrow :D), you can do dual-SMP and still have enough horsepower for GPU clients.
Best way to do this is
1) consult Scoop's most excellent SMP setup guide,
2) consult PG's multi-GPU setup guide,
3) run WinAFC to keep the PIDs from stepping all over each other,
4) and of course come here and ask for help (and/or give some to others in need :))
Left the GPU's running, and put SMP on q6600 stock clocks. GPU's are on core 3, other processes on 0,1,2. output with SMP roaming free 1360ppd.
Moved SMP to cores 0,1 and other processes to core 2 output dropped to 1199
added second instance of SMP useing method in my first post on this and set it to cores 2,3. output about 733ppd
Not so impressive but better than nothing I have run this overclocked to get 1920 ppd on 1 SMP but the ram I use now is different so I don't have the time to get a stable overclock. I already have set affinity 2 on my machine not the best for this but it is working.
Can anyone tell me what output they get for running a single instance of gromacs (the non smp version of 6.23)
I haven't really followed the threads over in the ATI section since I pulled the 3870s. Now you have to go to about page 3 to find people talking about it. Some still claim they have their cards working yet I have yet to see mhouston say the cards are full supported for 2 instances. My bet is that RR couldn't get his cards working satisfactorily, those that claim they do are blowing smoke.
Do you mean this comment?
mhouston wrote:
The 3870 X2 should work if you disable crossfire in the control panel. It's the 4870X2 we are having issues with in Vista. In XP it works just fine, but the CPU utilization doesn't drop as drastically as it does in Vista.
On this page:- http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...&sd=a&start=30
Well, even if they're blowing smoke, 7-8k PPD for 300w per card is no match for say a GTX260 216 at 180w. :(
What do I need to get to start folding? never done it before :)
nm, think I found it...
ok, up and running
Nice to have you aboard. :wtf:
As soon as they update go to http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/?nav=IMAGES and get your sig in your forum signature.:up::up:
There something else you can run that runs off your gpu and not cpu?
meaning is there something else i can run along with folding@home that will utilize my video card
** just noticed when I checked my status it shows this for my team
Default (includes all those WU returned without valid team number) (0)
I put in the 36362 for team though in the config... I need to do something else?
Not at the moment, well there is gpugrid on boinc tbh, but it's no way close to being as usefull as f@h ( new project, has to proof itself imo ).
That's the wrong team, keep it running just create a new shortcut with the -configonly flag, then change team number, close client and restart ( just to be sure.. it should pick it up without restart but I'm not sure when, might be after turning in the current wu  )
With those Nvidia GTX260 video cards you could disable the SLI and then run the FAH GPU2 folding client one on each card they should generate more than 10K ppd per day. I am sure one of the windows folders could help get you going with the multiple GPU 2 clients being a Linux guy my windows folding setup knowledge is very limited and quite out of date have not folding on Windows in over a year.

I'm asking advice here about moving to folding other than within windows. I've only ever used windows, unless you count stuff like dos which was so long ago....
Now the race is over I want to try to learn the other ways.
Would anyone like to recommend an order of learning eg try notfred first then xxx then xxx then ......
The aim here is to end up with the most productive setup on a q6600 with 4gig and 3 gpu but along the way learn a little about linux and vm's etc.
linux is good for smp...although I could never get the GPU's running..
I just completed a fresh install of Kubuntu 8.04 and then did the wine GPU2 client setup the big thing is getting the Nvidia drivers installed and setup correctly after that the rest is easy. There is a pretty good setup guide on this forum for doing this in Ubuntu.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=199660
And the custom wine cuda wrapper can be downloaded from this website
http://www.altechnative.net/download.php?list.1
So do you think there is no need to do this in steps? Just go for it?
I have very similar rig to you but am thinking of putting this on an older asrock MB. I am waiting on rma of max formula for my main rig so am a little limited in having no spare just now
I wanted to try this in a vm to practise but I'm afraid it won't work that way. Xp under vm also doesn't expose the real gpu so am I right to assume I really need to install it as a native os?
Don't have a spare hdd to, and the one with the most space on it is a external usb hdd, don't think that's a good idea...
it normal my cpu is only about 10-15 percent utilized by folding? figured it would use more.
**yeah something is not right.. its been running since I downloaded it yesterday and it shows 183 for today... I see others have in the thousands for today.
Did you follow the guides? 183points for 3 wu's is indicating your client is eue'ing. Post your fahlog.txt in [ code ] [ / code ] tags
Here is my log file. Not sure what eue'ing is :)

that can't be the complete logfile .. is it? post fahlog-prev as well if you got it. If you don't have the prev log, and this is all you got, you made a mistake with the install, as I said, did you read the guides? Sli disabled, clients in the right place? You got two cards, you should have two clients running and thus post two logs ( each client in a seperate folder ).
If you didn't do all that, delete your current client and disable sli, then run www.mtm78.nl/maxfah/publish.htm, install the gpu clients and just enter your name ( team number should already be 36362 ), don't mess with the other options and after install go to c:\maxfah\clients there will be a folder for each instance and you can run them from there ( if you want to create shortcuts be sure to change the start folder for each shortcut ).
nope did not read any guides.. not sure I saw em.. its probably stickied somewhere :) I do not have sli right now.. other card is on its way and it won't be installed until I get my wc all done in the next week or two. suppose I should find the guide and read it. I thought this used your cpu too lol.. the folding I have right now just uses my cpu, just downloaded the folding client from http://folding.stanford.edu/. What does http://www.mtm78.nl/maxfah/publish.htm do exactly?
install clients ;) but you still need to read the guides :)
You are correct you will not be able to fold with the gpu using VMware you will need to do a native Linux install and then use wine. No you could do a dual boot install so you could boot into Linux when you wanted to fold and then boot into windows when you needed to use your computer for other things that you can not do in Linux. and you could use a usb hdd but it would be a little slow.
@doox00 the High Performance Clients are here

For your gpu the sys tray client will work. its easy to set up and for your cpu use the smp with MPICH
Guide for smp in Vista
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...nSMPGuideMPICH
okay, now I have my gpu and all 4 cores of my cpu working
still only using about 12 percent of each core though.. this normal?
yeah, it has an instance open for each core.. each core is using 12-14 percent at all times. I read this guide
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...nSMPGuideMPICH
Pretty sure did all that right...
Show us a ss for taskmanager procceses tab :)
Did you add "-smp" to the desktop shortcut?
Check the core version in your log is it core_78 or core_a1?
yep, added -smp... here is my log

Edit you know what nevermind.. have fun
jeez...Run another beside this one and show us those numbers...go on you know you want to :)
Wait wait.. you're running a nelly.. that's 4 real cores but 8 with ht enabeld. That's the problem there.
Think MM ran with HT off, and got about 6K ppd iirc.
Two options, reboot without ht on and check cpu usage, should definetly work I think. Or run multiple instances!
Idk how the ht cores are mapped, otherwise I would advice to use AFC but I'm not even sure that supports nelly already :(
Not even sure how affinity changer would work with a nelly.
Shortest solution I got is running with ht off. But idk if it's the most effective. I wonder how a nelly does under linux with the -smp 8 flag though, if it's an improvement over running normal a2 cores without ht. Man I whish I had your system
@ oldchap MM had troubles runing dual instances so either fah doesn't like him or nelly doesn't like dual fah's. I'm going to check the thread on the folding forums about AFC maybe there is some nelly info there
Hey guys, forgive me if this has been answered 100 times already but I just wanted to make sure there isnt anything else I need to do.
I pretty much just installed the F@H GPU client, made a user name and then put 36362 in the team number spot and then let her rip, been folding for about a week and a half non stop. Is there anything else I need to do? I am folding with the rig on the sight side of my Sig.
Welcome to the party!
you're in like flynn...
here's your sig image...
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...arowah&t=36362
Jason still is blocking me.. think he got scared by my email.. hey do you mind if I make about 700 xml queries to your export functions.. per update :sofa:
He says there is a script blocking ip's when they make to many queries, but my loop ran through 200 queries with atleast a second delay between them and the morning I came down I could still browse there and check stats, it was only in the afternoon after he read the mail I guess that I got blocked :rotf:
It's not like I can't use a proxy but I'd rather have him just unblock me :)
Kakao is to slow for my liking :horse:
Why I bring it up... because all I see is a red X where all those sig images are supposed to be
Thanks MikeB12, how do I go about getting that sig image into my sig and keep it updating? I know I can just copy the image to my drive but wont that just be the static image with no updates?
Quote his post and put the entire [ url = xxxx ] [ img ] url [ /img ] [/url ] in your sig that will autoupdate as it linkes to a webservice :)
Many thanks, I guess I need to work on getting my sig smaller now hehe, I would like to move the Image to the center of the sig area but I couldnt get it to work, I will work on that this weekend.
Thank you for the help and the Welcome guys =)
[ center ] the thing you pasted already [ /center ]
or select the text and press the allign option in the wysiwyg editor. There are a few good guides for bbcode on the web if you want to learn, but as it's a subclass of html you might as well skip it and go right to the good stuff :)
Got something against big sigs?:ROTF::shocked:
Mak's huge image or Marvins wall of text ... what's the difference ? :hehe:
Hey I can link to 10 members with more sig space ( yes... I did have to look for em :sofa: )
I already removed a line because I was told it was getting to big, and the wfo quote I think will wear off in a few days seeing the graph :cord: ;)
I just wish the sig edit box was wider, I have so much coding for my sig it is so hard to figure out exactly where I am in that dinky little sig edit box :p:
pfft, who needs pictures. Text is where it's at.
Quick Question....What is an A2 core? Linux only?
Yes - Fahcore_a1 is Windows SMP and Fahcore_a2 is Linux SMP.
Thanks Russ, Thought so but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing points somehow. :)
He forgot one though, macOS :P
I'm running a q6600 @ 3.6 with g-skills @ 1066 on x38 and XP sp3. My previous runs with SMP were with 5.91 on lesser equipment at lower speeds.
I am trialing 180.60 for the GPU's now and WinAFC too.
What I need is ppd figures for single and dual instances of SMP. BOTH Vista and XP either with or without GPU running too. Can anyone help?

Thanks Mike, For us XP types preliminary results look good....Very good in fact. Keep an eye on the WinAFC thread if you are interested.
Anyone got these figures beat?
I've got a question about memory on a fold only rig
Is it worth using 1066 or better ram? anyone got any info? ppd versus ramspeed?
from what I've heard ram makes almost no difference in ppd... in fact 2 of mine are using ddr2800, and with my cpu oc I have them at 740.... because the only dividers were below or above 800, and I didn't really care about ram oc's on dedicated folders..
would anyone have a problem with me trying to fold for this team ,if not how would i set it up,i dont want it to run in the Background i want it to run in my taskbar and i can view what going on i also will be running it on this PC the spec's are in my Sig
Please join us. You should install "Windows XP/2003/Vista
System tray client installer with viewer"
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download#ntoc1
ok ty im now folding ty
its showing team 32, why is that i changed it but it not taken
Right click the system tray and go to configuration. You can reenter the team number. It is 36362.
ok i changed it but on the site its still showing that other team, oncei finish one it should change to this team right?
you need to stop and restart the client after you change the team number. then the next wu turned in will start going to the new team #... whatever you turned in already under that other team # is not going to change, it's already turned in. whwerever you turned it in, it's there for good. all you can do is change how your client turns in.. you can't go back and change wu's that have already been uploaded and counted.
start and stop your client.. it needs to restart with the new team #, it will not change it on the fly. it needs a restart to reread the client.cfg file where that info is stored, and it only reads it on start.
ok done ty
well i dont know whats going on i had two going and they have been delete , i dont know if i did it or if there is a problem , is it what the log is saying

New to folding, got the GPU running but have not joined a team.
How can i join the XS team?
My OS is Vista 64bit, what SMP client can be used?
Also can the GPU and SMP run at the same time?
Thanks,
