Dual core is easy as hell; quads take a bit of fine tunning though. With my E8500 I literally dialed in 400FSB, 1.20v vCore, 1.80v vDIMM, 1.10v VTT. 1.50v PLL, 1.25v vNB, and 1.388v vSB [minimum allowed] and it booted right up and stable. Then I up'ed everything a bit and set the FSB to 450 and again booted just fine, so I took it to 475FSB and I'm not going to lie to you here, 450FSB+ becomes a bit of work to get it rock solid, but anyone can easily get it to run 400-450FSB without a hitch or maybe with a tiny bit of fine tunning. Now I'm running ORTHOS in "blend" mode and I'll leave it be for like 2-3hrs, then I'll take it to OCCT for another 2hrs and see what happens.

Great, I have that CellShock Blue kit and an e8400 Q807 -- maybe it's time to try one of these boards? Better cooling on the chipsets?

Built in waterblock on the NB connected to the VRs and the SB via heatpipes. It is made of copper but the top is aluminum; it didn't bother me so I use it in my loop.

Some quick results with the beta bios 0505:D... this same E8500, crappy Q812:mad:, could only do 570 on bios 0503... think i'll chuck in my Q807 and take it for a spin:p:.

0505? Care to link? Can't find it on the Asus FTP.

I'm not sure how you are getting such great results with the BIOS.

My board is not responding well to this BIOS at all....

EDIT: Not sure if it was a coincidence or the BIOS, but it turns out that the instability was coming from my RAM. I've had to slightly loosen the timings and increase voltage to eliminate any errors with memtest86+

Can anyone say if the 266 strap is working properly with this new BIOS? With a dual or quad? 0503 for me is the best, but I can't boot with the 266 strap on any BIOS except 0151. I'll give it a try myself after sleep and work :(

yea I did up the PCIE frequency a little ... only by 2/5 mhz tho ... wasnt sure if it was safe to go much higher!!! One other thing i forgot to try is my DRAM voltage ... its at 1.8 at the mo ... may try 1.9 or 2.0

where did you get bios 505? i think CPU skews are all that is needed for huge FSB on prior bioses there wasnt skew adjustments for CPU.

I have to get BIOS 505 off of my board. I cannot even POST past 490FSB with it.

I'm trying to use AFUDOS to force a flash back to 151 and every single time it says that it cannot read the ROM file....

That is yours? how good was that CPU before? i'm really tempted to flah but i dont have a floppy and is my 24/7 rig with RAID and :banana::banana::banana::banana: dont want to mess it up.

What was de PL on that SS?

for 610 i could boot and bench with pl10 , 620fsb pl12 , 630fsb pl13 , 645fsb pl14 :D , yep that's mine .
cpu is great 4.9ghz air screen with 1.6vcore and it loves LN2 :D

It was the only BIOS that allowed me to run over 500FSB....

But NOW, that I'm back to 151 after a force flash from 505, I cannot boot over 490FSB, the same prob I had with 505.....

I'm either going to RMA this board or just get rid of it...

I've done nothing but fight this board for weeks trying to find stable settings....stability is just waaay to inconsistent.


EDIT: I'm now on BIOS 204. I was able to go to 535FSB with that BIOS. I am now pretty sure that my memory is dying on me....it is showing ALL of the signs that are typical of dying modules from my experience. Memtest86+ throws thousands of errors at SPD timings on these sticks.....not only that, very weird thing is that the board will not POST with the RAM at SPD, timings have to be tighter than SPD to POST! lol

Once I get some new sticks, i'm now eager again to try 505, espeically that i know there is a way to flashback to something older if i need to.

The few that have used 505 other than myself have gotten GREAT results, so there has to be something to this BIOS that is good!

This is crazy i've never seen such an improovement over a bios update.

Wow I'm seeing dramatic improvements with this new bios too.

I could hardly boot at 550fsb before.. Now passes p95 large fft @ 570fsb PL8!

It's been said a million times before with asus bios' but if they could put out a bios where all straps and dividers worked fully then this would be the mother of all S775 boards. If it isn't already.

Not the highest or tightest ramklocks but a nice 24/7 setting wich was what I was aming for! Playing with my A-Data sticks is real fun, need to torture them before i get my Mushkin PC14400 kit later this week :)

I just got a second G.SKill kit yesterday to bump me up to 4GB and they also have D9GTS IC's like my current kit.

I was running Prime 95 for 8 hours without any errors.

Hello guys... I'm watching closer this Forum since 2 Weeks, because I have upgraded my PC.I have an Q9450 stock 2,66GHZ on Asus P5E3 Premium Wifi@On.
In idle temps are around 46°(REALTEMP), load under prime95 around 68°(REALTEMP). I mention that I have an Thermaltake Kandalf Case with 4X120mm fans and Coolermaster Fan on CPU. I´m sure that this temperatures are very high(for summer), but I have my PC in non cooled room(around 27°).

I´m not used to OC PC´s thats why I have read true posts here on this forum..I have tried yesterday but my OC failed.I have modified only FSB, everything else on AUTO. I have managed to start my PC only with 350FSB with X8 multiplier...higher than that my PC won´t start.

Other components in my PC:

750TX Corsair PSU
4Gb DDR3 Corsair 1333Mhz (9-9-9-24) 9TDXH3 in dual channel.
2X500Gb nonraid HDD
9800GTX EVGA GPU
X-Fi Creative Soundblaster Music edition

Can someone of you guys, the experienced ones help me to get this rig to 3.0GHZ? In short I will try to buy an WC, but here in RO it´s hard to find, also I´m not very familiar to WC components & sistems.

Here's a 32M run, Everest run, 3D run with all 4GB of memory with some pretty good results. I switched all settings and voltages to AUTO except vDIM 2.04v and vNB 1.5v. I've been testing both my sets of G.Skill D9GTS and it seems the first set I bought a few weeks ago runs tighter timings at higher FSB then the second set I got this week. I have checked and both sets contain D9GTS IC's. Does anyone know if these IC's need to be burned in?

I'm currently running BIOS 0401. I tried briefly increasing FSB to 450 MHz but got prime95 errors after several seconds. It looks like the beta BIOS 0503 and 0505 are much more friendly with increasing the FSB for both the duals and quads. Nick2006 and deachus, I see you both have PCIE higher at 105. What does PCIE do and how have you found that increasing this setting has helped?

Hey, let me know how those reapers work for you. Mine are totally stable, but do not seem to want to run much faster than 1800mhz. They also do not want to run tighter than 8-8-8-27, although, either of these could be because my board needs alot of voltage to the NB, and I don't want to go any higher at the moment. For reference, I am running 1.57v to the NB to get my system stable at 450mhz FSB with only a dual core. If you are much lower than that, you may need to crank up the NB voltage to get rid of your errors. That is assuming your other settings are pretty close to dialed in. Good luck!

I am going to try and make some time this weekend to get this setup in my A/C chiller that runs the motherboard, ram, videocard, CPU at -26F idle -6F load. (Or at least my E6600 setup did) Maybe not that good temps with the 9450.

Will post pics and results once I'm done. Hoping to get above 490FSB with the cooler temps.:D

Guys i now suspect i have a dud PSU ... new mobo and still the same video issues ... as soon as i add my sound card the video card led goes from green to red and i get a no display message ... this happens with vista and xp ... what do you guys think?

Have you tried a different video card or PSU? Have you using the PSU calculater to see if you have the required amount of power for your components?

That PSU should be more than enough. I am running an OCZ 600w GameXStream and all my rails are rock solid so 800w should be more than enough. Have you test your rails with a digital multi meter to see if there putting out the correct voltages? What does the bios say for the following voltages?

what I'd suggest you is to manage to run your board with any friend's rig and see then if it is definitively a hardware issue .

Just had a look in the bios ... voltage reports are below

5V = 5.040V
3.3V = 3.312V
12V = 12.096V

Im gona go and buy a psu today ... see if that makes any diff

Those voltages all look good. To bad you don't have a DMM to test under Prime load.

I did a file compare using Vim and they are exactly the same.

"P5E3 Premium Wifi AP @n" always seems to lag behind the P5E3 Premium in terms of official BIOS updates. ASUS will tell you to use to "official" BIOS for your exact board. This seems a bit excessive since the Wifi and non Wifi are basically the exact same board. I have the WiFi version and have no concerns installing 0505.

Anyone here seen an improvement in performance or overclocking going from 0503 to 0505? I have everything running stable, and am pretty happy with my setup for now.......however, if the performance is better, I wouldn't be opposed to giving that one a try.

New memory arrived today and i'm on BIOS 505.....BIOs is doing great this time around.

I'm not able to get the machine stable at the 600+ FSB setting yet, but at least it posts but then crashes at Windows load screen...it's a start! I couldn't come close to this in the other BIOs releases.

However, I've noticed soemthing with 505, 204, 151 and that is, if I set the memory to 2100Mhz, I will always get a windows file is missing error when trying to load windows. The machine posts, goes thru the boot up process, and then it says a file is missing....

I feel pretty confident that the 2000Mhz Patriot Vipers I just installed will do 2100Mhz, but I get the error with this memory and with my STT 1866 as well....I'm not sure if my STT 1866 would do 2100, however, I get the saem exact error between the STT and the Vipers at that speed which leads me to believe it may be the board....

I haven't seen anyone try the mem speed at 2100 in this thread....

Any suggestions or ideas?

What is the rated voltage for those? You may need more voltage. I was able to get 2060MHz out of the Corsair Dominator 1800C7 @ 2.1v.

I can go to 2060 no problem, as soon as i go 2100, I get a file missing error - the same error that I got whenever I tried to take my STT 1866 to 2100....on BIOS 151, 204 and now 505.

so, the same exact error between two different memories at the same speed, seems as though the board may be limited to under 2100Mhz??

I've tried 400 strap and 333 strap - both produce the error at 2100Mhz....

i passed SP32M at 2100MHz 8.8.8.24.2T at 1.8v on the board with and older BIOS, havent tryed this one also Cellshock did really good with the board.

I just flashed to 0505. Noticed that when running 450mhz FSB, loadline calibration is ENABLED when left on auto. I don't use it, so I had to set that to NORMAL. I copied all my settings and am running prime to ensure that it is still stable.

For the quick Everest benchmark that I ran, memory perfromance seems to be exactly the same as on 0503.


For whatever reason, I feel better no longer running a BETA bios........LOL I'll go back to that beta in a heartbeat If I have any problems with this one though.

While using the above settings I have stable superPI nad OCCT, my PC keeps on rebooting randomly with instant BSOD...

I tried to set some values on ram skew control (200-250 delay on both channels) but the reboots keep on coming (one while browsing ob the net, other while re-encoding an .avi file etc.).

I'M TRULY DEVASTATED WITH THE THOUGHT THAT SO MUCH MONEY DON'T GIVE ME THE SECURITY OF A STABLE SYSTEM.... :(:(:(:(:(:(

At stock I have no complaints... :yepp: but... the whole purpose is to push a little (I don't think that 3.600Mhz with 1800Mhz ram even with 7-7-7-18 is a major O/C), just to make me a little happy...

Nick2006, I feel your pain. I just flashed to 0505 and once again tried to push things up to FSB 450 MHz. I also am not stable at these settings. I am now stable at default settings (FSB 400 MHz and 4GB RAM at 1600 MHz -- only increased NB to 1.41). I have not gone thru the whole business of trying to adjust clock skews with this new set of RAM. I see that BIOS 0505 has some additional skew adjustments so perhaps this is where we should be looking to next. The problem with me currently is that this process just takes so much time. I would like to be able to just plug in the settings and be off and running at FSB 450 MHz and DRAM frequency 1800 MHz. I just don't know what the right settings are.

I see that several people have increased PCIE to 105. What does PCIE actually do and how does this help your stablity?

PCI-E is the frequency at which your PCI-E slot runs - default 100MHz. On some boards, leaving at the default 100MHz can lead to problems as the mobo links PCI-E clock to FSB when at stock settings such that increasing FSB increases PCI-E clock, so most set it to 101MHz to avoid this. Increasing it further provides a bandwidth boost in 3D graphics, and so with high-clocked cards it can provide a performance boost.

I think you are chasing the wrong settings. If you are running performance level 7 with the clock twister on auto, set the NB voltage to 1.57v as long as your CPU is stable, you shouldn't have much trouble getting this memory to run. Please start at 1.9v to the memory (vdimm). Drop the multiplyer to 6 or 7 for testing, and make sure you have enough Vcore for the resulting CPU speed. Leave all PLL, FSBT set to the minimum valuse if you have a 45nm dual core.

This new bios is awesome, without playing with skews or gtls, I have my Reapers running 8-8-7-24-2N @ 1800mhz. Prior to the 0505 Bios they wouldnt let me run anything tighter than the stock 8-8-8-27 without giving an error. Tonight I will try for 8-7-7-24 Also, I am running 1.82v, untill last night I had the vdimm set at the stock 1.9v

EDIT: I just noticed that you have a quad core. Start around 1.61v to the NB I am running 1.61v and I have a dual core. If I drop it I will see an error, either immediatly or after as long as an hour of running prime95. 4gb at 1800mhz with a quad core on top of it, is quite a load, and you may want to make sure a fan is pointed at your NB heatsink while running those kind of voltages, but I don't believe you will find stability at much less VNb than that.

Soapman 72, thanks for the input. I'm looking to much toward instant gratification. I will try increasing the NB as suggested. Dropping the multiplier initially is a good suggestion as well which I haven't done for awhile. Perhaps I just need to walk up the ladder in baby steps which I haven't done. I hadn't set the performance level but see that it defaults to 8 which shouldn't be an issue. I will set this manually.

But I'm concerned if by increasing that much the NB voltage, I'll eventually result in degrading the mobo. :confused: Please note that I squeezed between the 8800GTS and the mugen cooler an 80mm fan looking halfway down the northbridge heatpipe... But I dunno if this can reduce nb temperature considerably...

The downside of this overall effort is that Prime95 keeps giving me an error after 3-4 minutes... :shrug: The core voltage according to CPUZ is 1.312. Is there a possibility of an error-free Prime95 with more core voltage ?? Or do I have to manually give some settings in other tweak options too ??? :confused: :confused:

First off, I want to make it clear that I run a Dual core CPU, and I am in no way calling myself an expert on overclocking quad cores CPU's. That said, I would try more Vcore (just for testing) My E8400 requires 1.33v (load) to remain stable while running prime95 for almost 6 hours. I stop the test there with no errors, but don't feel the need to test for 12-24 hours like some guys do. It is VERY hard on equipment when we run the kind of elevated voltages we run.

I would recommend that you bump up the Vcore and NB and run Memtest86 for multiple passes. Whlile trying to overclock (tighten timings) on my 1800mhz reapers, I have seen errors after 4-5 passes, all while the system would run prime95 and OCCT for hours on end. Some would still call the system stable, since those programs run without error. I set the ram back to recommended settings, and got no memtest errors, so THAT is what I call stable.

Once you know that your memory does not give errors, run prime95 (seems tougher than occt to me, at least for testing a CPU overclock) on large FFT, this creates the toughest load on the CPU. If it runs fine for several hours, you can move to the BLEND test. THis loads the ram (and Northbridge) much more while also loading the CPU. If that will also run for several hours, you are nearly done. It is now time to start reducing the VCORE or NB voltage, but only test one Item at a time, or you wont know which reduction caused your instabilty. P5E3 boards have VERY fine adjustment when it comes to VCORE, so I tend to test in 2 click increments. I never want to end up right on the edge of stability when it comes to adequate voltages, but I also don't want to run too much......you get the point, I'm sure. Do the same for the NB, btu you may not want to move 2 clicks at a time for that one.

NOW, If you get errors soon while running Prime95 Large FFT chances are you don't have enough VCORE, but you need to pay attention to WHICH core gives the error. if it is ALWAYS the same, you may be able to fix it by playing with the GTL for that core, but I have not had that poarticular problem, so I have not had to adjust GTL's on my board at all. Pay attention to your temps, but once you get stable with the Large FFT test, move to the Blend test. this involves the Memory subsystem much more, so you may still get errors on the BLEND test that you didn't get when testing with Laarge FFT's. Bump the NB till those go away.

I posted a question in another section about the Max safe NB voltage for this chipset, not alot of people seem to know where the safe limit is. I am not sure either, but it seems that a fan over the NB heatsink is a very good idea when running these kind of memory speeds. I found some recommended settings for X38/X48 NB voltages on Corsair's website, and for their 4gb 1800mhz ram kit they list the NB voltage at 1.71v!!! I thought that might be a mis-print, so I called them. They said that ACTIVE cooling would be required, but some boards would need that kind of voltage to run those kind of memory speeds. They also did say that many boards could be stable at lower voltages, but they recommended 1.61v to start for 4gb at 1800mhz, moving up slowly from there if stability still was not achieved.

At teh end of the day, Quad cores can be tough to get stable at 450mhz FSB from what I am reading, and even dropping the multiplyer may not fix the problem, since it is the FSB that is not completely stable in alot of cases. Also, don't forget, If you are doing alot of testing at lower multiplyers, if and when you decide to move up to a higher multiplyer, you will almost always need a bump in NB voltage to keep things stable.
