what batch do you have?

mine needed 1.23v for 4257MHz.thats why i think you have got a great one on your hands.
whats the batch number and vid?

and 4124 with stock volts.

My trusty ol' C0 E8400 made it to 4.82Ghz today. I think i may have had the voltage a little higher than what it needed. I think it was the ram and/or the NB making it unstable.
It was 1.58v under load.

I get 4.0 stable at 1.248v.. not too bad for a C0 :p:
Hey guys,
I am just reporting here::
For all those wondering about lifetime of overclocking etc.
I have an E8500 C0 Overclocked to 4.250Ghz, @ 1.45Volts, down to 1.42with vdroop.
Temperature range is from 30C to 50C.
So, the CPU has lasted me for over 1 year now, running 24/7 stable. So
Will your E8500/E8400 last for more than a year on 1.45V? Yes it will!
I am jealous you guys. Damn NICE overclocks. 1.25V @ 4.25Ghz!!! Thats insane. At 1.45V i bet u can get close to 5Ghz, 24/7 stable clock!!!
I am thinking if I should sell my C0, and go for a E8500 E0! :D get like 5Ghz 24/7 clock :D
what fpo/batch and what vid is it?
Also ... here is my new e8400 fpo Q842A (my EP45-UD3P says vid 1.200 but Biostar runs it default with 1.144Volts hadn't had time yet to try clocking it on the Biostar) :D
http://i31.tinypic.com/11tvtkp.jpg
EDIT: And a question. What do you think about a combination of this water cooling components:EK Supreme + Magicool 240mm Extreme + 2 Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm 38mm 2000rpm + EK flexible tube + black metal fittings + Laing DDC-1T PRO (modded to Ultra) + rezervoir EK DDC X-RES 100 + aditiv Feser Base Corrosion blocker? Is it a good one? Is compatible with Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and/or Biostar Tpower I45 ? (these are the mobos I have at home right now ... must try Biostar and see how it compares with UD3P)
Thank you,
Florin
Ovi
Great vcore for 4250mhz.
^ great chip
my E8400 requires 1.18~ real under load for 3.9 (Stock, VID is 1.212)
1.19-1.20 for 4GHz
1.32~ for 4.3~
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8492/43025758.jpg
what max volt can i go with my e8500 c0 for 24/7 ?
thanks
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/3963/247ygi.jpg
I don't try with less vcore, but this motherboard ( DFI UT T3RS ) is strange, she doesn't like low vcores
What batch of E8400 should I go with?
I got a choice of Q844 OR Q843.
Which one will OC better ?? Thx
Hey guys can u tell me your batches/Frequency/Voltage?
I got a choice right now, E8400 E0, Q844 batch or Q843
Which one should I buy?
OK,.. so I went and bought the E8400 E0, Q843B035.
Let me tell you, it performs almost the same as my older E8500 C0.
I got the f**king worst E0 ever created.
Right now, it fails at 490x9(4.4Ghz) @ 1.36 Volts, and needed 1.33Volts for 4.190Ghz. Now that is messed up!!!!!!!.
at 4.4Ghz its fails orthos after about 10 mins, Here are my full configs:
CPU Voltage: 1.360V
Northbridge/SB Voltage: 1.360
DDR Voltage: 2.2V
FSB: 1.3V
CPU Core1 GTL Ref Voltage: 0.67*VTT
CPU Core2 GTL Reg Voltage: 0.69*VTT
MCH GTL Ref Voltage: 0.67*VTT
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.7V
If you think these are too high, I also tried the lower voltages and still didnt work.
My mobo: Biostar Tpower i45
Mem: OCZ Reaper HPC PC8500 2GB
Can you guys tell me what the F**K is going on? I mean all the other E0s in this thread run very nice on low Voltages, and the Q843 Batches are good too.
Edit::: I also loosened up my memory (looser than a magicians sleeve actually, 7-8-8-18(5-5-5-15 stock)..
help be4 i explode for wasting $200 for this POS.
Thanks
1.57PPL ? isnt the safe limit for that at 1.450 for 45nm ?
default is 1.5v
Mine is at 1.54v since always.
K some facts : you really think you can get away with a mere 0.03Vcore increase to go from 4.2 to 4.5 ?
Why don't you try to stabilise 500FSB first with eg 8 multi. Those voltages you are pumping through the NB and CPU seem way out of control... Did you verify the voltage outputs via a DMM. Or are these the bios voltages you put in ?
Which Orthos test does it fail ? Blend, Small or large ?
First determine the Vcore via Small FFT , then work on the rams later...
You are going too fast and are wasting maybe a perfectly okayish CPU by just pumping volts. More isn't always better. Each board/CPU needs a certain combination of values to work, just upping one setting is not always enough...
Also did you copy a template of someone ? Sometimes that doesn't work at all... ; GTL tweaking and co is very CPU, Mobo, RAM dependant... try 3 the same boards and they all might need diferent settings
I never really worked with the biostar as my board smoked from day 2 at light load... I immediately sold the RMA...
I would start from zero , use 8 multi and slowly work ya way up on the FSB... else you will end up to be a very frustrated user... it could be ya CPU is a pos, but the voltages I see here are totally out of bounce...
hmmm for me ORTHOS With Priority 1 is nothing!!!
Hi, it's my first post on XS ;)
Anybody have E8400 Q840? It's good batch?
Hi there? Did you disable your Epu-6 engine(Asus P5Q mobo), before you oced e8400?
OK so: I tried everything from scratch at 8x multiplier, and voltage that is 0.025+ above stock, because If i leave it at auto, i dunno what voltage is gunna end up. Screenie::http://xs942.xs.to/xs942/09325/dsc049482870.jpg
So, with these minimal voltage increase I got up to FSB of 463mhz. At this FSB, i pass orthos CPU stress and the gromacs core. When I do the blend and ram test, fails after couple of seconds.
What should I do from here?
^^^ I am guessing right now that bottleneck is RAM?
^^^ Edit: So I booted up at 470x8, all voltages are the lowest(like i said in above post), except the ram, which I cranked up to 2.2V because it wouldnt boot up. This setup passes all the CPU tests on orthos, but fails the blend and ram test after couple of seconds.
Help
Thanks
OK, so I was able to get it stable at 490x8 with a minor bump in northbridge and fsb volts, memory running at 2.2V,This passes all orthos tests.
Now going on to 500x9, fails everything after couple of seconds. Help
look at your Nb voltage it reads out 1.12, that's freaking low... giver her more volts there... if it passes the cpu test yet fails on blend it's usually bad setup of the NB voltage and GTL's...
maybe your cpu will only run at 4.5 with 1.45Vcore, not all EO cpu's are golden eggs and with FSB voltage around 1.3
OK, so I got it to 500Mhzx8 Stable. I bumped up the FSB volts and the NB volts, which still didn't work, so then I did a small increase on the vcore from +0.025 to +0.050, so the FSB volts and NB volts could go lower.
Screenie::
http://xs942.xs.to/xs942/09331/dsc049512411.jpg
These are the volts.
Whats next?
After I tried 510Mhz, but orthos fails on all tests after 2,3 mins.Got no time to tweak ATM, gotta go sleep.
Thx
Plz use Prime (latest versions) and do the small test first to determine Vcore, do not run blend or Large as they involve the ram, MCH combo...
Is the Vcore stable under load ? How mich does it droop/drop ?
This motivated me. It's 4AM, I can't sleep, there's a LAN coming up and a guy figured out how to make a million of us playable in L4D, so what else is there to do but blow up the pc, right? Here's my "I got into windows screenie" for now...

I'm gonna pick up one of those Thermaltake A2018's from fry's tomorrow and double the airflow on the TRUE for more palatable temps. I'm touching 70 on these 1200RPM SFLEX's. :D They're quiet, but damnit, my AC's running full tilt in an effort to keep hell out. I can't hear myself think and the pc has no business being quiet at a time like this!

Batch: Q820A732
Vcore: 1.2V Bios / 1.166V Digital Multiemeter
Yeah man, I had bad luck with the E8500 E0, since a lot of people do 4.5GHz on 1.35v mean, or even less. After many tests done, get it in the E8500 E0:
E8500 @ 3.800GHz = 1.192v
E8500 @ 4.000GHz = 1.240v
E8500 @ 4.250GHz = 1.328v
E8500 @ 4.410GHz = 1.376v
E8500 @ 4.503GHz = 1.416v
Sorry for my English, I hope you understand. :D
My E8400 can hit 4.4Ghz @ 1.328v loaded and stable. And I did go back to my quiet Scythe SFLEX E fan. That will keep things below 70C and that's good enough. I did manage to lower temps a touch by lapping the proc and heatsink w/ 400, then 1200 over the weekend.
When I picked it out, it had the lowest VID on the box of any of the other E8400's. I picked up more than a year ago @ a local Fry's. It's been the most fun chip I've had since my old P4 630.
Is VID now mentioned on the box ? Never knew that... would love to see a piccie of that
It was when I bought it. Not sure if was called VID, but something to the effect of 1.xx and it varied per box. I just grabbed the one w/ the lowest number and it turned out pretty well.

bump!
I found a nice patch: Q828A086
Set up a gameing rig for my friend. 4ghz@1,18v did 12h Orthos + 20 x 3DMark03 + 20 x 3DMark06 without any problems.
Did 3DMark also with 1,12v@4Ghz but Orthos failed - probably temperature (ambient +28c).
For my services, I'll have a opportunity to test that CPU later under SS :) Therefore I do not have the 12h screen.

I think it's quite acceptable. What do u think guys? :p:
(I've posted this in the Gigabyte UD3P thread too :P ... I'm quite pleased about this combo UD3P + E8400 :D)
Anyone know how q836a001 does?
Got one cheap off ebay (I was bored... and didn't want to wait for a e6500k from China)
Well...
Good piece of Si ;)

My old E8400 OEM I got last year for $120, 1.49V @4.2Ghz :D Temps at full load never reach above 70 so I guess I'm good, try to shoot for 4.4Ghz or 4.5Ghz. :D
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/713...ghzmaximus.jpg
I think the E0 E8400 in my main rig has degraded, I can't seem to get 4GHz (500x8) stable anymore. It was originally in my DFI UT X48, ran that for quite some time. I reset to stock to do a Vista > Win 7 upgrade and left it running that way for a while, but when I tried to go back to 4GHz it wasn't having it. I swapped boards and put in my UD3P thinking maybe the DFI was to blame but no go even with vcore set as high as 1.35v! It used to be fine running about 1.25V on load at the same speed :( I've tried VTT from 1.20 to 1.30. Very strange.
I just replaced my E2180 with an E8400 over the weekend.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2955/e84004338.png
my E8400 has a VID of 1.2500V E0 steeping. not a bad chip with do 4GHZ at 1.395V 4.2GHZ at 1.4250V I like it but wish it was a tad better.
Not bad Isira 4.3 for 1.416 V
Have to share this, it's insane - I struck gold :D
E8200 4.5GHz benchable below 1.4v at 563x8 lol - much better than my E8500 E0 was
Spi 1M 10.3 seconds
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ys/spi4500.png
EDIT: Tried 588x8 but it crashed at desktop, however I was able to get 575x8 benched, 1.45v in bios (possibly higher than required)
PL 12 cripples memory bandwidth but it's still a nice screen :D

Hey Guys
My E8500 E0 FPO/BATCH Q22A596 (BOX - 1.26V max)
VID Coretemp - 1.25v
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1395/e8500rf.jpg
4Ghz - Vcore 1.272
Maximus Formula @ RF
I guess much high vcore not a good batch =[
My 8500 E0 takes quite a bit of volts for 4.5GHz, on load it was about 1.44v (set to 1.45v in BIOS).
Really wish I'd kept my E8500 E0 - it would probably have done 4.5 below 1.4v (I had it at 4.4 with 1.352).
Has anyone had any experiences with the E8600?
Hi, new here. Just want to show you a OC I did on air http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=958902
I bought this E8400 chip from YMAA a while back (bottom of page 199 of this post).
E8400 E0, batch Q826A399, week 08/13/08
Didn't get around playing around with it for a while, but I can see why he runs on water - this chip is quite a hothead!
Don't think I'll go any higher than 4.5ghz on air as the temps in the pic are with a TRUE!
I know he got 4.6-4.7ghz stable F@H but I'm on air.
Nice Everest scores when paired with 2x2gb G.Skill DDR2 1200's, huh?

Excellent chip
I miss my UD3P + E8600 + G.Skill 9600's :(
What would you guys go for now a e8400 or a Q9300? Is the extra cache a winner or the extra cores going to win in new games? 2 years ago everyone was talking about futureproofing vs. gaming ect ect but it's now so I want to know. Also if you guys have upgraded since how big of an inprovement have you seen with your new rig over one of these?
I went from an E8400 to a Q9550. It's a :banana::banana::banana::banana: to overclock, but BC2 is much smoother. I would go quad, especially since the Q9300's so cheap now...microcenter anyway. Here's a couple screenies from BC2. Notice the GPU usage increase once the game gets some more cores to play with. :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...eMPproblem.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...emquadcore.jpg
Well I'm not benching it's pretty much for gaming.
How much does the lack of cache in the Q9300 kinda hold it back vs. a e8400/e8500 in gaming? Cause Either way the dual is gonna OC better I'm sure. 7.5 multiplier in the Q9300 :/
I have a Abit IP35 Pro to put it in if that makes a difference to you guys.

that's a good overclock but noone is going to care about it now
I still care about a solid score even if the hardware is sub, the card bandwidth is retarded. Nice job.
My E8400/Asus P45 rig is still humin' right along...@4.5GHz with 6GB of DDR2-1066, a 4850, and a Vertex 2 boot drive it's still a pretty quick rig. A lot of people would be amazed at what just an SSD upgrade can do for an older rig...maybe toss in some extra memory, install Win7 64bit and enjoy.

Might have to get me one of those E8400's just for fun. Since I'm going to make my son build his new rig this would be good practice.
I thought I'd bring this thread back to life momentarily by saying that my E8400 has been overlocked at 4.05 ghz on a thermalright cooler for approximately 6 years now and is still running solidly strong and as fast as ever. BF4 comes out and it played the beta with two old 8800's in SLI. Upgraded the gpu to the GTX 760 and am anxious to see how it performs on a 2560x1440 monitor. Thought for a second that I'd try and grab a qx9650 on ebay but am now contemplating keeping the E8400 and really maxing it out (possibly 4.5 ghz daily use) as well as the 8 gb of DDR2 I have.
