I've got a similar setup as you - C1 Q9550 @ 3.91GHz/1.3075 vCore. With the TRUE 120 and a single fan, I run idle at 34ish per core and at full load after 3 hours of Small FFTs, I don't go over 65.

anyone using 16GB of RAM on this board?
what kit?
Check to make sure the Zalman is sealed well too - I tinkered with the TRUE a few times before realizing the washer mod was required. I've also lapped the TRUE (but not the processor) and that helped flatten things out and help make it more secure, although I can't say it did too much for temps that I was able to notice.
Hello All,
First of all let me say hi to everyone, I'm new to this forum.
Secondly, just so you know, I have read 99% of the 200+ pages of this thread. But still having issues.
My problem is I can get past 422 x 9.5 on this P5Q Deluxe rig I just built on the weekend.
Ok a little background: I have another rig with a P5Q Deluxe and the same E8500 E0 CPU. That rig will run 442 x 9.5 with 1.4 volts on CPU and most all other settings on auto except for the usual stuff that you normally would disable like Speedstep, Spread Spectrum, etc. That rig is totally stable. I even copied from this stable rig my exact bios settings and plugged them into this second rig, still no go.
But this other rig won't go past 422 x 9.5 no matter what I do. Below are the settings I'm using But I can't remember exactly the OC Twister settings and DRAM Read Training (I think is dsabled), so I left those settings out. I will update my post with those settings tonight when I get home. But I can run at 422 x 9.5 on this rig with everything on Auto except cpu volts which I raise to 1.4 and it is stable.
Also the CPU that is in this problem rig was just in an SLI 680i board and it was running 442 day and night totally stable, so I know it's capable of these speeds. I just changed out the board because I wanted to run a 4870 X2.
Here is a side note: I can get to 442 with this troubled rig by setting the DRAM Frequency to 1066, but it's not stable.
By the way, the settings below will not boot to Windows.
Hardware in both rigs:
C2D E8500 E0
Zalman 9500
P5Q Deluxe 1406 Bios
2 x 1GB Corsair Dominator 8500
PC Power and Cooling 750/Thermaltake 750
HD 4870 X2/GTX 280
So as you see both rigs are identical except PSU and Video cards.

Please can anyone give me a template of settings to try or any advice to get this rig to 442 x 9.5? I am pulling my hair out guys because I should totally be able to do this. Like I said my other rig runs this speed and is totally stable (hours of Prime95, Orthos, games, etc), but I just cant get this CPU/Board past 422 x 9.5. So if anyone can PLEASE, please give me some help/advice I would be forever greatful.
Thanks guys,

Too much voltage isn't always better... and AUTO overvolts BIG TIME !!
And why don't you run 445 with 1066Mhz on the ram (more bandwith , lower PL etc...)
Thanks so much, I will try those settings tonight.
As far as 445 with 1066, I might try that but I thought it was always best to run at 1:1? But actually as I said in my original post, 442 with 1066 would boot into XP but was totally unstable. So maybe you've got something there that I should try.
Oh I forgot to mention from my original post: I have listed in my bios settings the DRAM voltage as 2.1. But, in the other stable rig it's on AUTO if you can beleive that, but it's true. I set 2.1 as the last thing I tried when experimenting on the weekend. But actually when I tried to run at 442 with 1066, I started increasing DRAM voltage and the more voltage I gave it, the faster it failed Prime95, until finally at 2.1 it wouldn't boot.
Thanks for the voltage values you listed, but do you have a suggestion for the DRAM given what I just said above?
Thanks for your help,
Marc
Has nobody else got any feedback on this problem? Its the most bizzare issue I have ever come across and I am really struggling to think why it could be doing this. I am booting from a 320GB F1. With the Maxtor plugged in my PC boots every time even though its booting from the F1. I fail to see why having the Maxtor plugs in resolves my boot issue. It is so weird!!!
Thanks. I have SMART checked and error checked all my F1 drives and they are all fine. My two 1TB drive do have different firmware on them though. It is really strange. I am thinking that perhaps the maxtor that I have plugged in externally is creating some king of earth to my PC. Only way to test this though really is to rebuild my system!
There is nothing on the e-sata except for a few DVD images. I only realised that having this plugged in resolves my boot problems the other day when I had it plugged in for the first ever time!
The PC doesnt have boot problems when it is not overclocked (or even with a moderate overclock)even without the e-sata plugged in.
Like I say, it is the craziest issue ever! I think it is either an earthing problem or a disk controller issue but I really dont know.
im now at 515 x 8 with 1.28 vcore in cpu-z. i was stable for 4 hours before i had to leave so its lookin real good
i changed my gtls to .630 and the nb gtl to .650
would stabilize at 3.8ghz, any tips?

I want moar, getting 3.7Ghz out of my E6750 with 1.448v@ stress :s, to much on vcore imho, on my previous board (Gigabyte EX38-DS5), I did 3.64Ghz with 1.44v and 3.7ghz @1.456v @full stress, so this is like to much for just those 60mhz more ...
Although I'm running a strange kinde of memory combination, 6gb in dualchannel, does anybody know how far the corsair pc6400 sticks go?
I really want to get a very good clock on my cpu for 24/7 use, since it came out of a L722 batch, and from research I learned this is a good batch for E6750's
Atm I think cpu pll and fsb termination voltage is treating me ... thursday/friday I'll try more.
but does anybody know good settings on al those xtra ram overclock options ... ?
Thank's in advance ;)
Nice that you did find a good combo...
Just try 425FSB and up Vcore and PLL voltage to 1.56 or even 1.6... hope it will work
I don't get it, you get the same clocks (3.7Ghz) with less voltage on the P5Q Dlx then the GB and you complain ? or did I misread ya sentence there (leestekens tegoei zetten vent :p )
For the rams it would be nice to see how the rig is setup now by completing the template plz :
P5QDlx Template
I meant diffirent, on the GB lower voltage than the P5Q Deluxe :s, wich is strange, I had the same on the P5K Deluxe ..., will try tonight, now I have to study
thank's anyway for the ram information ;) :)
Hello
I just installed another P5Q Deluxe,this time with a E8500 CPU Q822A671 VID:1.10V
Without screwing around too much with Voltages i was wondering about the result.
I Made also Test 30Loop IBT and 8 Hours Orthos.
If you watch the Voltages settings, my opinion is that they are very good for this clock.

I'm ready to go stresstest 3720Mhz on my E6750@1.46v idle and 1.47v stressed, it looks like I setted the GTL references wrong, setted them to auto and huppa, it's going like hell, got to finetune that later ... :p:
edit: I'll keep it@3704Mhz, fast enough, 1.46 is enough to keep it running, altough I still have to do a long stresstest, prolly for tomorrow ...

and you want to stabilize xxGhz ?
Ok its been awhile since i was last posted but i dont care about cooling issues, i just want to reach 5 Ghz, my comp. should have no problem running at it i just cant find any stable settings for it to run on.
I have intel core 2 duo stock 3.33Ghz its OC to 4.4 Ghz.
ram is DDR3 1600, and my mobo is asus P5Q3 deluxe and it should be able to get higher. So please tell me wat i need to do to get it to 5Ghz.
Not all E8600's do 5Ghz Will on air or water... maybe for short benches but you really will need chilled water or phase to stabilise things for 24/7 use...
Can't you get 500FSB and 1600mhz ram speed stable ?
What would be a good target NB GTL REF Voltage, not the divider but the actual voltage for 4 2gb sticks and lets say a 475fsb. I should be getting my chip soon and was just planning things out. Thanks
well its stable at 4.4Ghz on a full load, and i no how to overclock to an extent, but there r so many more settings that r there and i pretty sure my mobo and my cpu could get to 5Ghz. My fsb is set to 440, cpu ratio is at 10x, and my cpu voltage is at 1.462v, and anything above that fsb is unstable so i was wondering wat do i need to change the other settings too.
Ok , I am lazy. I haven't read thur all the posts yet to get my answer. I also have posted in several other theads. I am coming over to Intel from AMD. I just have gotten tried of all there BS. The too major ones were board design and general chip design/plans.
I wanted a 45mn chip and didn't need a quad right now. This is what I have to work with from my crapped out AMD590 based system:
OCZ 600/650 Extrem Game PS
I brough a set of OCZ PC9200 1150 reaper (4) 1 chips.
Wanted to know which one of the bios mods / stocks will work the best with these sticks. Do I need the deluxe as I wouldn't be running dual video or is it that much better in general. I am thinking about the E8500 or E8400. The 8600 is just too much of a price jump.
I would love to finally see a 4.0 ghz system that works at FULL memory bandwith. I know I can get at least 1200mhz out of these reapers!! I have grown tried of 200 (400 whatever) monkeyed buses.
I know I need a new heatsink and maybe a Harddrive. I have a good fan which I will be getting one to do a push full setup.
Thanks for anyhelp.
I run 8 GB...

i need help here
this is my machine:
Asus P5Q Deluxe, mbios 1702
X3360 (Q9550) C1, 459x8.5 1.3875-1.400v
4 x 2gb Transcend AXeRam 1066+@ 1103mhz 2.0v
Problem:
I have CPU stable on 1.3875v (3.9ghz), i can run Prime95 for hours but i experience sudden random crashes on no load at all. It just reset the system without warning, on idle.
I spent hours to find right voltages, i think i've found them but cant sove this problem. I guess it has something with "loadline calibration" wich couse that the voltages are lowered when idle and on load it ads ~0.01-0.02v
If i disable "load-line calibration", then i have to raise vcpu to 1.400+V vwich gime me much more heat under the load.
Aslo, vdrop (i my case) is high, when set to 1.393v, on load it fell to ~1.34v, wich is to much! I thought that vdroop shouldnt be so high on P5Q dlx.

Why not help ya board and run PL 9-10, TRFC 55...
Thanks for the tips. This should help. Im surprised at how much more GTL Ref that these 45nm quads like compared to my old 45nm dual. What is the VID on your chip?
Does your Northbridge run hot with that much voltage? I just straped a couple of 40mm Sunons to my northbridge, so Im hoping that will help. I also replaced the TIM on the chipset with mx-2 a while back.
What does the Northbridge Clock Skew do? How will that effect my clocks?
i've tried BLEND test, and it run it for 2h without problems. Cpu temps are max 65-66'c, NB is not very hot, memory is hot but same memory run on 2.1 and was much hotter, and i have found that it runs fine with lower voltage, so now is 2.00-2.02v
As i said, my problem is not with running under load, but runnng at idle.
It's not clear to me why is that happening ... tried everything but sudden crashes occures form time to time, even when noone uses a computer.
I heard that "loadline calibration" option can produce peaks and drops in voltages so i guess i may be the source of my problem
one more thing:
P5Q deluxe cannot work stable with 3 mem sticks, it gave me a plenty of crashes, and as i inserted a 4th stick it become much more stable. I also have Maximus II forumla and same amount of memory (and same memory) and no problems.
Can someone plz gimme an answer:P
This can be a lot of different things stopping you reach that speed,Cpu,Mobo,Ram.
Did you ever tried to find your CPU FSB Wall ? If you reach more then 500 with cpu you can start about thinking of 5ghz.
And i quote Leeghoofd about cooling, at this speeds you need volts and that needs cooling too.
how do i find out wat my fsb wall is. cause right now i have tried increasing the voltage and uping my fsb but it wont stay stable past 440 which it should be able to get higher since its E8600 intel core 2 duo.
Im really having trouble getting 4 2gb kits stable. Im starting to think that my board just dosen't like this ram. Any tips would be appreciated. Im at a loss here. I just pulled out one kit and am stabilizing the oc on my chip to rule that out.
Thanks in advance.

Pls pm your bios settings via the template and list all of ya hardware and co...
Have you tried to revert back to 1406 bios ? Ofcourse 2 hour blend is not enough for stability test but it's a good step in the right direction... could well be that indeed on your board the LLC is causing issues...
Best way to test drop one notch on the multi and adjust Vcore then accordingly ( to get leas heatoutput ) and test with an without LLC
Try to get off the 1:1 Divider Baba and try eg 445 and 1066Mhz, or even 450 and 1080mhz... is it more stable then ? Also try to readjust ya NB Gtl value again... 3rdly 2.1Vdimm on my boards was already 2.18 measured with my DMM... do they really need that amount of voltage ?
I think a big part of my problem comes from my ram being 2 different revisions that ocz claims is the same ICs, they could be binned differently. My older kit runs at (according to the sticker) 2.1v and the new kit runs at 2.2 (according to the sticker). Now that you mention it yes it is more stable at 1066 @ 445 the last time I tried them with my wolfdale. I tried my NB GTL at 0.68 and auto and it was more unstable. Ill try them at 1066 and 1080 and with a couple of different NB GTL settings and post back. Thanks.
Is anyone still getting the IASTOR.SYS error in the event manager with their P5Q Pro and the lastest Matrix Driver? I have tons of those errors in my event viewer. Although my system hasn't rebooted or crashed like the previous version did...
Run mem 4-4-4-4 is possible in this mobo?
i cant run more low that 4-4-4-11
Well, I thought that I had a stable overclock. I was running prime for 8 hours, no errors. So, I decided to give IBT a shot and got a BSOD almost right away. I was running with loadline disabled which I never had any problems doing with my wolfdale. Vdroop is MUCH bigger with my quad, 0.07 from idle to load in prime. Even worse with IBT. I had to enable Loadline or else I would have had to run 1.43 idle just to keep my VCC at 1.33 in linpack load. I noticed that my quad does draw more than my dual at similar voltages and clock speeds. Is it normal for vdroop to be that bad with a quad?
Yeah it's crazy. I set 1.42ish in bios and under full load with IBT cpu-z was reading 1.318. Obviosly it would bsod almost right away. I had to enable loadline and set my VCC to 1.344 and I passed 40 runs of IBT Now Im running prime again. If all goes well Ill run it over night. It wasn't even close to that bad with my wolfdale.

the above are my settings for the e8400. i was stable at 515 x 8 for about 8 hours on prime blend. i started to mess around with settings again to get 4.25 ghz but couldnt get any stable config. im reaching for 500 x 8.5 but cant get it stable... dunno what to try next. any suggestions?
sorry, i meant 1.24 fsb termination voltage lol. i set it to 1.20 now and i pumped up the voltage to 1.3125 and changed the gtl's to auto. seems that cpu is stable but now blend is acting up.
Q6600 is better
463*8 or 423*9
??????
i upped my vcore to 1.32 now and changed fsb termination voltage to 1.26, still not stable :/ one of the cores fail 1024 within 10 minutes
v8.7.0.1007?
I get these errors on my P5Q Deluxe every once in a while using v8.6.0.1007 of the floppy AHCI drivers. The bluescreens seem to have stopped but the errors haven't. I thought the newer drivers would fix the problem but apparently not. I might revert to v8.5.0.1032, one user said that this version solved the problem.
does any1 seen such a screen? whats that?
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/644...tionpt0.th.jpg
Happens when?
seen this?
after posts screens just b4 OS load =/
It happens from time to time...
Unless some1, who encountered this and knows the solution, answers your question,
my suggestions would be:
1. try if it still happens without the overclock
2. try OS on different hdd (or at least replace sata cables)
Hi
I'm new here and have problem whit integrated soundcard. I have connected PC whit optic cable whit my home cinema but I get only stereo sound. I'm using WIN XP profesional SP3. Is it possible to get 5.1 sound via optical audio cable? The back boxes doesnt work. The most movies I have have AC3 sound but I get only stereo out. I tryed whit original DVD and there is only stereo.
Thanks
hello
in this mobo no cant pass cas 4-4-4-11 at 4-4-4-10 or more low
setting:
DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled
DRAM Read Training: disabled
MEM. OC Charger: enabled
AI Clock Twister: lighther
AI Transaction Booster: AUTO
dram voltage 2.3-2.5
Does anyone know what can cause this to happen? All I did was move this system into the living room to use it as my HTPC and connected my VFD display and installed my 9800GTX and hooked up the SPDIF for my HDMI cable to provide sound.
at first it started as a display driver issue as the screen would go blank during install and lock up. I uninstalled the drivers (181.22) and let windows install the latest drivers (178.13 I think)
after I fixed that, the next morning when I turned it on I got nothing at all except a blank screen with spinning fans and some lights. I look and the power and reset buttons are flashing at me. I messed around with things it came back on, but no idea what I did to get it to come on.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

i cant get this thing to get stable!!!! small fft's do just fine and blend fails in 1024k! any another suggestions?
With 1702 BIOS I need about 0.4-0.6 less voltage on RAM than with 1201, anyone tested real values?
ah crap sorry, i meant 1.26 for the vNB. i was tired lol. i set pl to 10 and switched the skews to auto. it just passed 896k so im hopeful, will report back later
computer crashed midway through 768k :S, that was with .630 nb gtl
Is that with multi 8 or still on 8.5 ?
i have just a simple and short question:
is there any way to read the PWM temps on this board?
i'm in the process of building a NEW WC system and hve to decide if i stay with the stock pipe, go for some enzotech pwm coolers + NB waterblock or put the whole board under water (Q9650)
Hi my names Nik, I have been reading this thread for a few days as I'm having trouble getting stability at 4.25Ghz. I can pass 20 runs of LinX and Orthos small fft's no probs but large and blend just seem to bomb out after a few mins (5-8). I was hoping that one of you more experienced wolfdale oc'ers might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanx in advance

I dont know what to change.
I tried to get stable with 3 x 2gb but no way. Simply P5Q dlx cant get stable with 3 slots, or a least specialy with this mem type. With 2 sticks work well, with 4 sticks works without raising NB and VTT voltages
With 3 sticks i tried various diferent voltages on NB and VTT (up to 1.4v) but no sucsses
On other Pc is Maximus II Forumula wich works with 3 sticks of same mem without problems

my bios settings bad ? ,Thank you helping me
bad english soryy
Hi guys, could anyone tell me the difference between Optimized/Performance/Compatible modes and when to use them?
For higher FSB about ~460 do I need to be using Performance mode?
I am having an extremely hard time getting above 9x462FSB stable in OCCT Ram test no matter what PL or Ram frequency or vcore and I have tried up to 1.42NB/1.40VTT. I can boot into windows at 8x500FSB or 9x470 and run small ftt's all day but when I try to run the 2hr OCCT RAM test I get bsod or freeze ups. Thanks
Tweak ya NB GTL !
Thanks, what is a good range to try for 1.34-1.40v NB? I think my board might be damaged or dying, nothing I can do to get OCCT RAM test to pass above 460FSB. I have revision A2 board and am thinking about getting a new one hopefully revision A3 or getting a UD3P but I am not sure if my cooler will fit the UD3P. My Q9650 is running 4.2ghz at 1.34vcore but my damn board won't pass the RAM/NB test, and I am pretty sure my ram is fine since it was passing before with my Q6700.
Also, does anyone know if I should be using Performance mode, I really would like to know the differences between Optimized and Performance.
I always used optimized. What settings are you using for 4.2?
New BIOS release:
P5Q Deluxe 1805:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5Q_Deluxe/
also
P5Q-E 1901:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5Q-E/
Hooa nice whit new bios.
Changelog of 1805 -> Update the thermal diode checking rule of CPU temperature.
Have anyone tested it?
yes
Any difference between previous BIOSes (1406/1702) and this one (1805)?
After short test, i didnt notice any when switched to it from 1406 (same settings)
Temps/voltages reported by software were the same. Maybe that change is just for some specific CPUs or should be tested more in-depth.
low volt set to the cpu:up:
to 3Dmark06 whit Q6700 400X10 4GHZ watercooling
BIOS 1702 VCORE 1.52
BIOS 1805 VCORE 1.47
That sounds good, I will test it tonight. What about temperatures with same Vcore?
Leeghoodfd you are the man, the NB GTL was exactly what was holding me back as far as FSB overclocking was concerned. The NB is high compared to what I have seen here but it needs it. The only thing that worries me is the FSB Termination Voltage which had to be bumped up also because I was getting random reboot's. Now I find myself struggling to keep the CPU stable at 4.2 and up, haven't tried lower. I had it up to 4.35 GHZ stable at 1.35625 bios for weeks, when I up the fsb no matter what volatge I throw at it it crashes after a few minutes in Orthos or OCCT. The funny thing is I can boot into Windows at almost any voltage I want, surf the intermet and play a bit of css. Any ideas where to go from here ?? I will try to mess with the CPU GTL's but that's alot of work currently I set them at .635-.675 as a starting point. Here is the bios as we speak.

I would say "yes it is possible", but not without alot of trial and error. The NB and Cpu voltage and FSB term. is very picky and the slighest error on your part will hang the comp. I have a board that seems to need alot of NB volts to be stable, although I got her stable now theres something still off. I am still tweaking.

Hi, I have ASUS P5Q Deluxe and I have read that ASUS advice that the new Bios 1805 will fix the termal sensors of the motherboard. I have already flashed my Bios with new one but I still have a problem with my Core 3 and Core 4 on my Q9550. The promblem is: it doesn`t matter if my PC is overclocked or default all the programs which indicates the CPU temp shows that the 3rd and the 4th cores have 39C and the temp doesn`t move down. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3159/39789092.th.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6...4220ik6.th.jpg
Thank you in advance!
Pls give me advice: do I need to wait for another Bios, do I need to change my CPU or do I need to change the motherboard?
Sorry, I can't say where could be the problem...:(
Core 3 and 4 are fixed at 39°C, but I see strange temperatures also with cores 1 and 2; The first core show the same min and max temp of 34°C while the second core is much more fresh with a min/max of 18/23°C.
My opinion is that the BIOS is not the problem, but it's only my opinion, my perplexity is more related to the CPU, perhaps the thermal diode is malfunctioning...
Hope someone cuold give more help.
Yes, the usual problem of the sensors, I knew...
It is time that Intel adjust this matter, it is since 45nm processor came out that we hear this story of the bugged sensors.:shakes:

still testing, but definitely 1805 is much better then 1702
cant wait for ket's mBios version.
I confirm that with the new Bios lower VCore.
Same Clocks as before on My Rig 1 Step Vcore Less !
