If this is right, he is confirming what I told you guys about the vertex 3 not being able to reach is full performance on the marvell because it's only using 1 lane.

I can't find the tRRD in the BIOS, is it there at least ?
just love this board really worth the price!
Got my RE3 back from RMA, time to rejoin the fun :) comparo with the G1 sniper in the making...
ok for some reason mem cant run 2:6 divider, getting "uncorrectible hardware error". but 2:8 works fine :( with default timings.
can this be mem problem ????
Okay guys got it now, thanks a lot.
The time when i was full on spi32M is far away apparently, shame on me...
Ack, not sure how i typo'd 6gb/sec TWICE in the same post talking about 5gb/sec.
One gigabit is 1 billion bits.
So that's 5,000,000,000 divided by 8 to find the number of bytes/sec. = 625,000,000 bytes per second. there are 1024 bytes per kilobyte, then another 1024 per megabyte, so that equals 596MB/sec at 5Gbit.
Which illustrates what I was really trying to say about how 640mb/sec is above 5Gbit...
hey guys, is i7 965 EE 4.0g's @1.35v, QPI/v@ 1.3875..safe for 24/7..?..
I have had to remove AiSuite, althought before I used the fans controls when it work.
Turbo V EVO works EXCEPT! The CPU multiplier setting. It won't go lower than 25, but when at 200 BClk, you NEED lower.
So if one of you guys solved the BIOS and one of the new Turbo V's please let me know.

[edit]
FYI: TurboV EVO 1.02.28 doesn't cut it.
i have tried to work out the current issue of the i7 970 (GT) that is
affecting my system and many other people here and im almost 100% done.:p:
after tweaking around with timing tables 1st and 2nd, i found that simply
increasing the "Read to Pre" highlighted in red, removed my cap of 56/57GFlops in Linx when testing for all memory.
on auto anything below 12 was capping my system to low Gflops.
good luck...
now after you solve your problems with low Gflops, you can help me narrow
out why my system goes back to low Gflops after the 15/16th LinX Pass.
i dont want to say NB Temp as it reaches 61C/63C after the 12/15th pass

Thanks.
Hello guys,
I have bought myself a licensed version of "StorageCraft ShadowProtect 4 Desktop Edition" as I read on the internet you can use this software to
backup a non RAID install and restore your backup to a RAID setup using the "StorageCraft ShadowProtect Recovery Environment CD" option HIR in
the software without having to reinstall windows.
The question I want to ask is what is the best RAID stripe size to use with two Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB drives in RAID0 and will windows 7 automatically
set the stripe size to the best for me when I create my drive partitions using the windows 7 DVD or would I have to set the stripe size manually?
If I have to set the stripe size manually, what is the best method of doing this and does the stripe size have to be set before createing any drive partitions or after?
Thanks for responding.
wow you are really lazy.

Here it is 2-60-8-4 :) (tRRD-tRFC-tWR-tRTP) set in BIOS, passed MemTest4.20
BTW, I was always wondering why CPU Tweaker shows wrong tWR. Also, tRTP is 4, not 2, as both programs show. Or is it?
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/1...000777201t.jpg
I've noticed the same thing. tWR always shows as 12... I have not found any way to tell if the BIOS is not setting correctly, or if CPU-T does not display it correctly.
I've also noticed that tRTP always seems to be = tRRD in CPU-T. Also not sure how to determine if this is correct or not.
I think the only way we can tell is by raw bandwidth.
This troubles me from SiSanda (latest version)
Can others verify if they see same on other channels?
Thx
hey guys, wich voltage range do you people need for the 980x @ 4.5ghz ht on? actually i'm using 166x28 with 1.42
http://www.xtremeshack.com/immagine/i93988_capt.jpg
yes i use energy saving options since i'm using 4.5ghz as daily use.
Hey guys,
Having a little problem here.. Bought a GTX580 put it in pcie lane 1, connected gtx260 in lane 3 and everything runns nicely except the gtx260..
Ive connected it right @ psu..
Any idea ?
did you switch on the pci-ex 3 lane?
hey my system went back to low GFlops and the only way i can run LinX all memory test and have reg Gflops is HT OFF, i had this exact 12GB Kit working with HT ON and 2x Uncore.
so i am stuck now with a CAP on Gflops and no matter what i try it doesnt seem to fix the problem.
i tested each mem module individually and on every mem slot on the motherboard.
while testing each module on single channel i found the optimal peak Gflops ~50gflops @1600mhz and they seem to be stable on RTL's of 54,54,55, so i marked the number on the modules and keyed them into the bios.
then, each module was stable with ~50Gflops per slot on single channel.
i then proceeded to test on dual channel and saw 80Gflops:eek: same RTL's same bios settings.
i then proceeded to insert the 3rd module to try and have the most optimal settings on the system and when i test with linx using all memory i only get 54/58Gflops Peak:rofl: i tried upto 3,600mhz uncore and the most it gets its 58/60gflops......
i pretty much had it with this motherboard, i swear im gonna make it meet the wall.
how can the i7 GulfTown chip move 80Gflops on dual channel and still move about the average 80gflops on triple channel.
seems like some memory dont like all that many core/threads and or intel :banana::banana::banana:ed up on the gulfie chips.
What do we have here?
http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/9...0522233224.jpg
:D
I retested many settings today with 12gb and 18gb memory. I could not break 63gflops with 3600mhz uncore.
AIDA shows the memory bandwidth is fine... I'm not sure this is directly related to the third channel... I lose performance after 9gb... not 8gb... so the third channel has to be partially in use...
It is a strange problem... I'm not very worried though, my performance seems fine even after starting many virtual machines and using all my memory.
I started a discussion for this issue here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=271333
man i quit on trying HT ON, i settled to run it HT OFF.
i was really getting mad cause it was working before and now its no go..
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...creencap-1.png
i dont like the fact that when you load it with lots of ram, it does not reach the same full temp as a >9gb problem load.
ex. when you load a 5Gb problem size it reaches 83C on hottest core, and when you load <9GB it lingers 10C lower than then 5gb problem size test.
AIDA is a Single Threaded Bench Test, i used i7TurboGT to monitor the
multi's and the core/thread when troubleshooting.
Hi
Can someone please drop me in a link to where I can get the Marvell 9128 Driver 1.0.0.1051 WHQL for the R3E.
Cheers
i had the same thing for the longest time... no idea what i did to change that but now i get the complete opposite. at first when i saw it change, i thought it was gonna scale based on how much mem was used... but it wouldn't change to higher temps at any setting until i used full mem. i can use 50mb less than full mem and temps are around the same of 10c lower... use full mem and it rises.
^^
i tried to be nice to him as i don't harbor simple conflicts, even when i share what actually helped on my end (being each system will always be different) i still get spat at so... ohwell
as i stated in his thread, the only thing that got HT to get the high gFlops that i was getting wih HT turned off was by having CR on mem at 1 instead of 2. in doing so though, having CR at 1 wont allow Linx to pass full mem test. it'll pass at 99.9% full mem test... but add a few MB's for full and it stops on error every time, go just below and it passes every time with the same 96-ish gFlops i get with HT turned off (cpu at 4.53ghz on both settings). i've done just about ever adjustment possible just as Zoson had done with no good results for full mem testing.
for now i've kept HT off as i don't use any programs other than CAD that uses more than about 4 cores at once... plus summer temps are coming around and with HT on at 4.5ghz, at 65-70*F currently cpu temps at full load are in low 70's C across the board and the average summer temp in my area ishigh 80's to low 90's F constantly which i fear may leave my temps too high for daily comfert.
EDIT: then again, the temps i'd get are roughly the same as the full load temps i got with my 4.7ghz in my sig if i kept HT on. my laptop's got a 2.53ghz extreme chip in it (can't remember off the top of my head, part of the Q9 series i think) and i OC it to 3ghz (in an Asus VPw90 laptop, it's got awesome cooling) and when i run LinX on it, i don't let it do more than 3 roungs cause it climbs through the 90's lol and i've ran it OC'd every day since i got it back in 07-08? so if anything i'll just run HT off and do 4.7... if only 1.55 vcore wasn't so degrading
:horse:
thats why zoson yells @ you......
he asked for proof and support for the bug that some of us Gulftown
users have and you become a storyteller...:p:.....no pun;)
please dont get mad, im just saying it in more plain terms.

You have to set the stripe size in the Intel or Marvell (do not recommend that controller) ROM config screen. First enter the BIOS to enable RAID for either controller. Then during boot you'll be prompted to enter Ctrl I for the Intel or Ctrl M for the Marvell setup screens.
I strongly recommend that you just enable the Intel RAID. Use 128K stripe for RAID 0 on the C300 256GB drives. Also, if you're not using the Marvell controller for anything else, completely disable it.
Thanks mate for your response.
I tested RAID on the Marvell Controller and people were right, the performance using this controller is poor when using two Crucial RealSSD C300 256GBs and so is not worth it compared to keeping them setup as single drives.
This morning, I was planning on giving the Intel Controller a test with RAID using my two Crucial SSDs but realized unforchantly that the Modified RE3 1301 bios I am using from the thread post below breaks RAID for the Intel Controller.

I am thinking of selling my Rampage III Extreme, along with the full board EK waterblock (black/nickel). How much are these things worth second hand now days?
If anyone is interested, message me of course, but I am not 100% set on selling it yet, I want to find out how much it's worth first.
I haven't hardly used the board and it's features and I have hardly overclocked it simply because I haven't had the time. Shame tbh as I love my setup, but it seems a waste to have this ultra high end board and not use the features which I paid for. So I will probably sell it on and swap out for a SB instead as I am trying to cut back on the electricity costs too.
Obviously I would end up selling my i7 930 + 6GB G.Skill Tridents too but I will sell them seperately most likely, so how much do you think the REIII is worth people?
Thanks.
Hello!
Well I have managed to set up RAID0 using my two RealSSD C300 256GBs on the Intel Controller of my RE3 and I can tell you, there is a massive difference in performance on the Intel Controller compared to the Marvell Controller.
Can anyone please tell me whether this performance results are prittay good or not and is there anyway I can improve the performance more?
I have the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers & application installed and I am using a 128K stripe size.
I have also made sure to enable write-back cache in the Intel application.
Thanks for responding.
Sylver123.
Loving it, very fast and quite a cool system, HW monitor at boot up is 10C on the first core, recently relapped the TRUE that might be why, also was having overclocking issues with new build, crashing and stuff nothing was stable, reseated the TRUE with a thinner coat of AS5 and we are good to go. Been reading this thread since the beginning, four days ago, I am all caught up, still on page 175 or so. I few tips that helped.
QPI by default is on Auto is too high, moved to 1.25
PLL voltage to high as well went down to 1.65
IOH voltage up to 1.25.
This gave me a sold overclock to 4448 with a 990x,

nice chip you got there, regardless it being only 2gb test under LinX.
~1.38Vcore is very nice @ +4.4Ghz, you need to retest under LinX and select all memory to fully test your hardware.
if you test again with all memory, please let us know:up:
You can probably get around the swap issue by enabling diagnostic startup using MSCONFIG.
I think Andreezy is spot on, you probably do not have enough vCore. 1.38v is very low for 4.4GHz... A bit more volts there would most likely do you good.
With 12GB Ram, 1.25v QPI also seems low to me... Generally the rule I've been following is set QPI to 1.35v and then see how high your UCLK can go.
For 143 BCLK, you don't need to increase PCIE speed, 100 should be fine.
Lastly, your IOH is high. I use 1.2v IOH for 200BCLK with 2x GTX560 Ti's in SLI.
Quick question!
Does this motherboard support dynamic voltage when overclocking? I have overclocked my i7 930 to 4.2GHz, enabled SpeedStep, C-State and C1E but when the system idles, only the multi drops, the vCore stays at the same voltage? Isn't the voltage supposed to drop?
No, this is the issue me and Andreezy have been talking about. Except it's happening to him at 9216 instead of ~10gb.
I can clock my cpu up to 4.5 with 1.425vcore and it appears stable as long as I'm using >9216. The difference in gflops is 80 -> 55. His config is so similar to mine that he should have very similar results, except slightly faster.
It's easy to see the difference because the cpu cores won't get as hot as they normally would.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...81gflplinx.jpg vs http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...2ghz21linx.jpg
So the issue is the Linx coding prolly ? (deleted my previous post , my bad )
there is a thread started by zozon, its not Linx Coding.
i have a few kits that worked @ full bandwidth 100% load under LinX used
to output 79/81gflops.
same test as of *today* gives a max Gflops output of 55/56gflops.
so its some bug/degradation going on.
Gulftown is Bugtown, look @990X above by Tergon 100% load and i bet his temps are 70's
seems like sweetspot, but its not....:p:
i bet same test with 4GB will brings his cores +80c and or crash his cpu.
Leeghoofd you need a GT and test 12GB of ram to come into this problem,
so far its a hit and then miss, problem is killing us here
thta's why I didn't include a Linx screenshot in my 12GB Sniper review... took too long...
if you did the review with a gulftown and took too long then maybe you werent stable, when i was stable and full bandwidth the system flew through the test.
now that the gulftown is capped, my i7 950 gives it a run for its money on full load.
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...9mhz12gb-1.jpg
this is a screencap on my current system, i yanked the gulftown..
its never going to see the daylight for a while, unless i sell it..
The last test posted was with 9216gb selected and my temps were only in the mid to high 60's to low 70's, made a few adjustments to settings QPI to 1.26 in BIOS and uncore value to 3254 up from min of 3011 or so. Another run through and at two tests done (will post screen shot if it all finished) the temps are running hotter at the lowest core at 72c and highest at 82c. The GFlops are now up to 83.9 and 84.2. system seems stable as I am posting at the same time on it. The only other thing I did was take the side off the case for a little breathing room. Hope it makes this run, no adjustment to vcore at 1.37 in BIOS. The test is fast with the higher GFLops each line before was taking 11 minutes and now down to 9 each calculation. Will post screen shot if it finishes without error.
good going, those are good outputs:up:.
let us know what and if anything like a cap limit pops up.
I have tried many things to get a faster overclock stable, as so as I go over 4.5 the system craps out with no matter what the settings are. Any hints would be helpful.
I have tried the following,
Higher Vcore
Higher QPI
Higher IOH
Higher BLCK Vs Higher Multi for same clock rate
How much does CPU PLL have to play into it? I found 1.81 (board default to high) dropped to 1.65 is this to low. Should I try to up the CPU PLL!! So many bloody variables to take into account, fun tweaking but gets tedious at times, you just want it to work. Also contemplating going to water cooling, but will this just lower the temps, doesn't neccessary mean an instantly better or higher overclock. Lots of decisions to try.
dont listen to zalbard he is evil :p:
j/k
summertime is here so everyone is kind of detuning their systems.
you have a nice chip/vcore going on, dont ruin it
optimize your memory and voltages and as you learn your hardware
you will figure out what it takes.
do a bios template and post it up, it will help you in the future for
reference if anything goes.
except setting "trl" for 0003, it requires less tension, more stable, etc... than the 1301 or not? (I leave "trl" on AUTO)
thanks ;)
I seem to have a weird problem. after reappling tim on my cpu(took out cpu and reseated) my memory channels are all messed up. I had 6x2gb installed before, but now it seems that the only way i can get it to work is only have ram in channels a1/b1. If i have ram in a1/b1/c1(red one's) slot the system will only see 2gb as installed.
I can't get it to boot with any other memory combo beside channels a1/b1, but once it boots up it work fine, as i can run all app/play games and currently writing this on said machine.
what could the problem be? or is a rma needed.
Try reseating your CPU.
Also, when you reseat your cpu, check your LGA for bent pins.
i had to remove everything, took out mobo check for bent pins, cleaned and reinstalled and it working now.
also what score should i be getting from a stock 975 with 12gb of ram with IBT standard bench?
sorry guys got few questions: i think RIIE own thread is stoped so i posting here.
why uncore is so hard to go higher, is it IMC or the board related.
on same settings 220 bclk seems to be fine but after that it boot fine till 233 but can not be stable in linx stress. is it got to do with ioh or cpu.it freezes on screen.
just trying to know the real culprut.
sorry for my bad english.
Recently, I purchased this board with a new 970 (after price reduction). I just had my 930 on a P6x58D premium board at 4.1 with no problems.
Couple questions:
1.) Which value should I set the Multiplier at for best overlock results? Keep at the stock or lower?
2.) For Gulftown processors, I was under the impression that the Uncore needs only to run at 1.5 times the Dram Frequency instead of the x2 for Bloomfield. I am having problems right now getting stable running IBT for more than 5 tries. I will post settings after I figure out these values.
Thanks!
Odd multipliers seem to be more stable for me than the even ones. I think that's the general consensus. I like the 21x multiplier because at 200BCLK it gives you a nice and easy 4.2ghz while also giving you access to 1600mhz and 2000mhz memory.
Uncore does only need to be 1.5x, but again, it seems the general consensus is to increase your uncore to at least 1.6x. Many of us with 970's find with 1.35v QPI, you can get ~3.6ghz stable uncore speed.
With more uncore speed, you will have more performance, since the connection between the on die memory controller and the core is faster.
Many of us also get better stability at higher clocks with lower CPU PLL. The values differ wildly, so you must try everything.
I'm having my eyes on this motherbaord to replace my crappy gigabutt UD9 !
Still I'm torn between the Rampage III extreme and the black edition!
I've been overclocking since the P2 days, so I know my way around.
Same CPU on an EVGA classified http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1414
P.S. I was able to reach 212Mhz Bclk with that classified on this CPU.
212 still isn't high at all, though. Have you tried any other chips on the UD9?
Ive seen Salamndar's issue its the weirdest thing and he does know his stuff, typical case of board is crap cant OC but although designed and marketed for overclocking its not covered under warranty. Any board would do better than his UD9!
Thank you good sir, that's exactly what I was trying to say.
Bclk 200 or 212 or even 250 is the same as long as you break the 200MHz, but to sell a board as an overclocking dream which is not is annoying and no RMA is available to my issue so yes any board will be better than my UD9.
Any way ebough of UD9 since this is a Rampage 3 extreme thread.
Now I'm torn between the Rampage 3 extreme and the black edition.
The Rampage 3 Extreme is much cheaper but I hate the stock HSF and currently it seems hard to find a water block for it.
The black edition is $$$ and I like every thing about it exept the thunderbolt since it is useless to me !
No worries. For normal use, and if you aren't going to utilize the thunderbolt, the R3E is a better choice. Keep your eye out for a koolance or EK block for it on your local forums and try and grab one. I had to buy a whole R3E and EK-FB as the guy wouldn't separate, so I just removed the block, refitted the stock heatsink (which I also dislike) and sold it, ended up almost getting the block for free so it was worth the hassle.
Either that or go another board but the fact you want to water cool and are buying a board this late in the lifecycle will make it harder to find new blocks in stock. You have the X58-OC but they may not even make a block for it......that's why I suggested the used block new mobo solution.
If you have the $ go with the Black.
The black edition has the marvell controller 9182 and is better than the 9128 that the R3E has but they are both marvell cause intel hadn't come out with 6gb chip until after the rampage. Intel is much better.
That's not a bad thing, SATA III is still not native supported with intel chips so all motherboards currently uses a third party chip which won't work as good as intel, besides, USB 3 + SATA III are not important to me at all.
Hell I have no SATA iii device nor a USB 3 !
I'm so tempted to say wait for Ivy................I just feel nothing for SB, but Ivy may have some pretty cool performance..........is it worth it to get an X58 now? You have held out so long with that mobo. You have a 980X though so you can pretty much hit any clock you want with multi, just have limited options due to BCLK limit, but I run 133 x 30 for 4GHz 24/7 (lol just had to open CPUZ to see what I run cos I haven't touched the settings on this board for months now) and its fine for daily duties and gaming. If you can wait, Ivy should kick X58's ass.
Also if you need to put a damper on air/water overclocking, do some sub zero benching. Seriously, since I did that I have next to no interest in air/water OC anymore, I just use water for low temps and virtual silence. A nice air setup running 4GHz (X58 or Ivy) would handle whatever you want to do surely. Damn, listen to me, I must be getting old :shakes:
I faild to mention that I currently running an EK water block on my UD9 which I fear it could be one of those bad ones that have been running around, by the way my old dead classified mobo was running with an ek water block that have this plating issue !
Any wy, I wanna get red of my Ud9 fast do to all the wrong reason I'm having with it, also I've invested some $$$ with the 980x which to me should save me from switching to socket LGA2011 for at least another year ( I hope so but I'm too weak when I see sexy PCBs, orgasmic chips and beautiful graphics cards, yup I am a junky whom am I trying to fool ).
I was in the market today to check some stuff up, The BE is unannounced in the Middle East so the ones in the market are imported and cost more than twice of the Rampage extreme !
Seems the rampage extreme a more sensible choice:)
But again I have to take my time deciding what to do first!
