heh from me being bored and drunk i was about $1 dollar out from your prediction but like i said at the end these are all lame pre-order/inflated prices :(
LMAOOOOO at that link for 5870 $650

Yep, I kinda forgot about that discussion we had when I made my post here earlier today, sadly we can only see what happens (not that it matters too much what the exact price is in the US, because that is not what I will be paying ;)).
Go buy it while you can... It is the special "SEF-Edition". :rotf: (Super Expensive Fail Edition)
Specs dont look that different from 4890, what gives?
Still 256bit memory bandwith?
Still 850mhz Core clock? I thought we were getting 1ghz+ core clocks?
don't need 512bit bus its why 4870 never really gained much of a boost even with an extra 200mhz + on the memory overclock hasnt saturated it yet.. I think there eventually will be a 5890 possibly with 512 if not then next series after the shrink might be..
also memory will be at 5300 mhz so nice mem speeds just to make sure its not going to fail with it....
you act as-if its the same core as the 4XXX series its not its like double everything pretty much so even at 850 it's impossible to compare as its a diff chip entirely
Can anyone project the die size of HD5870 if made at 55nm. Suppose if 40nm was a really bad process then 55nm is the only other choice.
512bit isn't possible with the diesizes were are planning on seeing from AMD/ATi, until they start stacking/staggering the MCs which is pretty far off.
We might eventually see a small bump up to 384bit in the future but that will be when they actually have a need for +200GBps of bandwidth and GDDR5/6 stops scaling effectively.
Well since RV870 die size is unknown at this point, somewhere around 330mm2 is the best estimate/rumor, these numbers won't be exact especially since there are way too many variables involved to calculate accurately.
Assuming RV870 is about 2.1bil trannies and ~330mm2, it would be ~600-660mm2 on 55nm.
What facts do we have regarding the 58XXX series so far?
Nice to see ATi fixed their AF quality. One thing that's bugged me about my 4850 is that AF doesn't look as sharp as it did with my 8800GTX.
Hey guys, is it in my best interest to hold out until the 2GB version becomes available? I know neither card is out yet, but I'm more asking on the opinion of 1GB vs 2GB cards from previous generations. Has the extra 1GB made a huge difference in performance? I'll be playing mostly FPS's. I've been sitting on this 7900GT forever waiting for these cards to come out, but I don't want my impatience to get in the way of making the right decision.
I suppose my question can be summed up with: "What would you do?"
I know it made a difference with the x2 cards going 1gb to 2gb, but that's also technically going from 512mb to 1gb as both gpu's have to store the same information in the ram.
Honestly, I'd think going 1gb to 2gb should make a difference with these newer cards at high resolution with AA/AF(who DOESN'T buy these and game at high resolution though), but it's too early to know.
one thing that's bad about such high mem frequencies is the latencies. I don't think graphic cards really care though.
Here's some foreign preorder listings:
5870 http://tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=4179631 19500 PHP Philippine Peso (PHP) = $408 usd
5850 http://tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=4179601 14500 PHP Philippine Peso (PHP) = $303 usd
If they can keep the price of the x2 around 500-600(600 if the 5870 does indeed turn out to be a 399 part), consider me a new buyer.
Was really hoping for lower prices, but they should come down by Christmas.
Wow, now I'm debating getting one or two again. Damn cars, why they gotta cost soo much?!
And to make things worse, I need a new board! Anyone else running an 16x/8x or 8x/8x board? Mine are stuck on 16x/8x.
They care somewhat... The 4870, when ram is dropped to 4850 speeds the 4850 wins thanks to the tighter timings on the 4850's ram, even though the 4870 has 125mhz more on the core. Of course, that's a drastic downclock ram wise.
I can hunt down the article if someone wants.
