That'd get me to join.
But then again I'm already here...

Great job, everyone.
Putting today's numbers into perspective:
Team 2ch
11,880 members
20,469,591 points
XtremeSystems
1,927 members
17,762,517 points
thats just insane,we are just pumping out the points here.
This has got to be some kind of record!:eek::eek:

Have other teams ramped up in response?
That would be how I would judge the success of the thing.
I assume the point is to increase "overall" WCG production, preferably with a longer term knock-on effect: ie, new crunchers joining the fray and staying on afterwards.
I guess we can only hope that our new members continue past the end of the challenge. I think that at least most of them will. Next thing will be, in a few months, to repeat this challenge.
I think we are going to have a very good day today.;)
I started it just for the comp but I think I'll leave most of the rigs running it 24/7, it's fun. :D
I will absolutly keep crunching after may 8th. I have some new stuff comming that wont be there on time for the supercomputer week but it will help me go higher in the rac standing. Goal for the beginning of summer is top 50 rac( i am already in top 100) and at the end of summer, want to be as near as possible to top 20 with 3-4 rig max.
Was curious about that myself, looking at WCG Global Statistics its hard to tell if the overall production at WCG has gone up or not, I'm wondering how many people that haven't crunched before have joined and how many people that were already crunching moved to XS for the challenge.
It sounds like we've got some new addicts.
You DID include the standard disclaimer in the email to everybody, right?
I was offline for 2 days, one of the first things I did was to log on & see how we'd done! :D
From what I can see the new team members are mostly XS folks and maybe 25-50 that came in from other teams to help out.
Then a few that weren't on any team but were on WCG came.
I would guess that WCG as a whole must've increased in the past 10 days..
Just had to..:D
There's another plus to all this that hasn't been mentioned:
With all these new folks we've had a chance to meet some excellent new people in this part of the forum.
As I told one of the admins the other day, there is no down side to this no matter what the final numbers are.
Okay WCG can start updating any day now :shakes::shakes::shakes:
as for me,this part of the forum is now my favorite place to hang and see whats going on now.:up:Quote:

Not cooked yet.
ill have to stop after the 8th due to temperature problems lol, i have all windows opened all the time and still im sweating like im in a sauna lol, but, once ive moved to my new home in july ill be re-joining with the current rigs, plus ill be adding another i7 920 and i7 860, so i should make up for the lost points pretty fast.
off topic, its harder to climb the rankings in this team than it is to climb in my country
Just a suggestion, but perhaps the next big push could be timed for the northern winter? Since most of the team are north of the equator, it makes sense to take advantage of natural cooling (and using your crunchers as "distributed heating" ;) )
all my Fah points this winter where achieved due to a breakdown in my heating system (which hasnt been fixed since cause of VERY cosy temperatures LOL)
i furthermore decided, no more heating costs for me, if i need more temperature ill just add another rig.
why should we pay for nothing but temperature when we mostly have problems removing the heat anyways? :ROTF: (that goes for me at least, since im still sweating like..dont know any comparison LOL)
Still 20min more....

Great job none the less:up: Was my personal best today too:D 49,314
my god, that slope is fierce! those other lines on the graph should step aside so they don't get hurt.
Meh, I've driven a truck up worse.
(JK, that's awesome guys!)
Send out another email to all of the opted in XS members!
Include testimonials:
"I didn't know what crunching or the WCG was really about. I thought it would tie up my computer and slow it down to a crawl.....I was wrong! I don't even notice it running in the background and it took like 5 minutes to set up. It's gratifying to know I'm helping fight some awful diseases. And keeping tabs on where the team stands is habit forming. I'm hooked!" Major
It would be cool if everyone that reached a milestone for the WCG team got a XS case badge, or a baseball cap, or something! lol
Oh......"Due to the fatastic success of the first week we are extending it for another week"
Great job, Team XS !!!!
don't forget to tell them about Pie... I'm still working off the pounds from my pie binge.
Ooooo, an XS case badge...I like that idea!
awesome chart it reminds me of the tech runup back in 2000. Good work all.
Been thinking about this a lot and at the end of the week we're going to send a email Thanking all who came to help and saying if they care to stay on they are more than welcome but not going to extend this another week "formally".
People came with a one week comittment in mind and thats what the deal was.
To try and push them into more just "ain't right"
Those that want to stay will and those that decided to do this for just a week will have done their part and leave with our thanks.
All in all it was a great effort by those that came.
Good folks, glad to have met you all.
Doesn't matter if you brought one machine or 21, you brought what you had and brother did you guys make a difference.:bows:
Another great day for team. Nice work, everyone.
I'll stick around. Maybe not super active on the forum, but I'll pop in once in awhile. I might keep my quad core crunching continuously 24/7. But I'll shut down the other 3 or 4 laptops when they are not in use.

Good folks, glad to have met you all.
Thank you..Short soapbox ..
To me this is a way that we, the common folk, can make a difference.
We can't endow a research center like a Gates or Buffet can BUT combined we can get the work done.
I have kids ,some of you do,and most of you will.
This is a way to make sure that 20 years down the road this crap is history as far as they are concerned.
Thanks for your help and glad to have you aboard!
:O team2ch dropped like 2mil and we went up! only 2 mil more!
What about sham, kingpin and hicookie or any other overclocker that work at a company likie corsair or gigabyte. I am sure they could sneak into the test lab and let run a dozen of 980x rig each :D or sham putting up a sr-2 rig and make it crunch a 5.5ghz with ln2:D
I could BUT I wouldn't put them on the spot like that.
It's their living and to jeapordise that is something I wouldn't do.
You should have heard Peter the other day when I mentioned I had 7machines running here..
"You have 7 machines folding,in your house?":ROTF:
*Peter minds* WTH!!! Is he really taking care of 7 rig at the same time. That mean atleast 7 cpu pot to take care of off and he can do that alone ?????
And than shamino go set up 7 sr-2 rig folding and try to take care of 14 cpu pot :D
So just tell them they dont need to use ln2 on them, water or air is fine and boinc is mostly set and forget and they might be instered. If not what about trying to get a 4sokcet m-c motherboard and get it to shamino and see if he can mod it to do some 4ghz 48 core crunching madness
I had a net outage overnight whilst I was at work so I should have a better day today if the pendings validate :)
Does anyone know what we are totaling up to in GFLOPs (or more likely TFLOPs) as a team for this week? We have got to be smoking past a few super computers. :D
Pumped up the Q6600 to 3.6GHz on air, with a 1600 rated FSB. Gonna let this run for a while and see how temps do.
Movieman, there's maybe a way in between: while you may 'call it a week', you may also suggest, for those want, some other continuation-challenge, like overtaking Easynews, for example. I for one, barely dare to stop my system this week, but would surely be willing to continue for a more extended time, albeit with a bit less, err... frenzy. :)
That said: a BIG thank you to you for coming up with this idea. It helped mankind move forward. It helped many guys to tune there rig better than what they would have done otherwise. It allowed me to participate in this Just Cause, and give quite some points already. It even made me (finally) decide to go for phase change cooling - it would have allowed me to score 20% better, besides staying cool. Sure, others have their own story.
And it helped, if need be, to strengthen this community.
For this, before even our final score is reached: cheers, man !
I'm getting excited about the easynews overtake. I think it's within our reach and a worthwhile goal; it will benefit the research community and our team.
Alright here we go again whose going to be trigger mike tonight?
I'm just here for the show :)
