Hmmm... I've tried so many things but I can't overclock with ati tool.. It will just lock up my system half the time starting at any mhz on mem or core and sometimes I can get it to overclock to 780core and 890 mem(on water) and i can run 3dmarks and all. but if i change the clocks or reboot and try to load the config(yes i saved the voltages) it will lock up my comp and the screen will turn funky color. wtf? :confused:
It is about the same for me... Well i got 9008p (WR for a singelcard?) in 3DMark06 ( http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=325828 ) but that is at 765/882. I have a Maze4 block and is thinking about (actually, I already ordered it) a DD fullcover block and a block for the voltage regulator. Also, I have a Aspire 520W for my graphic card, that should be enough.
What kind of waterblock do you have?
Also, I have a PowerColor X1900XTX. Can it be the memory timings that is 'bad' for overclocking?
Edit: I read somewhere that overclocking With ATITool should be done 'step-by-step'. That works for me but loading a high config directly gives me the same problems as yours. *strange*
With my X1900XT, I can get
Note: 1.4v is the nominal (stock, standard, default) 3d voltage for the X1900XT(X) cards.
770Mhz @1.55v (bench stabe but thats about it)
750MHz @1.525v (100% stable just a little hot)
725MHz @1.425v (Good comprimise between maximum performance and heat output. I run this speed 24/7)
700MHz @1.35v (Awsome OC becuase its at 0.05v less than standard stock voltage.)
650MHz @1.325v (XTX speed)
625MHz @1.3v (XT speed with 0.1v less than stock voltage)
Cooling for my XT is provided by an ultra customized Thermalright V1 Setup. For more info, see my sig for my project logs.
Did the cooling of the voltage regulator made any difference when you overclock? I mean, could you clock higher with that cooling?
And at what speed can you run the memory?

I upped my vcore from 1.4 (stock) to 1.475 (the highest I am willing to go on stock air cooling) and I got up to 756MHz core (just like my X1800XT 512) too bad my memory sucks so bad... 828Mhz is weak compared to the 900MHz I got out of my X1800...
Anyways, I also only have a 3700+ right now, in my old machine I had a 4400+ dual core...
However, I did reach a new personal record...

I'm getting great memory OCs, 870 in ATI Tool with volts at 2.151/2.151/1.5 for mem but I've been having difficulty getting my core passed 700/710 or so. It freezes in 3dMark at 710 whether I'm at 1.475 or 1.425... Oh well. I suspect I can probably hit like 880 at least in memory which is damn fast
On a side note I think I'm actually CPU limited in 3DMark, as I'm stuck at 12600 whether memory is at 800 or 870
Maybe I should try 2.151 for mem... Never tried overvolting memory before...
guys i live in singapore and i recently just bought a Powercolor X1900XT... it states that on the website that my core speed should be 625Mhz and my mem should be 1450Mhz... but right now its at 500/1200 by default.. wads the issue here??
That is the STOCK 2d voltages.
Run something in 3D and you will see that it automaticly raises to stock speeds.

I need some help to hard-mod my X1800XT (512mb). I've made a new vGPU X1800XT-thread for that, but someone recommended me to come here first.
Any pictures about circuit board? X1800XT/X1900XT, is there big differents between these cards? My card loves voltages and AtiTool doesn't give me enough, "only" 1.575V, so I'm going to make at least vGPU to my card so I can get up to 1.75V vCore. :slapass:
GPU runs 840MHz @ 1.575V (with icewater +5C)
MEM runs 945MHz @ stock voltage (with air +27C)

just got my rma'd 1900xt and its doing 725/810 @ 1.425/2.086/2.086/1.486 on water and ram sinks. Also i put a HUGE vreg sink and a fan on it. Core temps get up to 45c and vreg up to 54c.
wow, very nice clocks. The card must be pretty damn fast for games I would say.
very interesting... i ran 3dmark06 twice... once with automated fan speed control and the other with manual control... with automated fan control it reached a whopping 77 degrees after one run on 3dmark06, the second time with manual control i set the fan to 100%, you can barely hear this fan... temp was lowered to 69 degrees... i seems to me that automated fan control never actually goes to 100% fan speed unless it breaches a certain temp... =(
and suprisingly im only 100+ points away from 5K on 3dmark06 with stock clocks... initially when i benched with onboard audio my score was like 4200+, after adding the soundcard instant 600+ points?? lol.. i don't mind that at all..

okay.. most of you know i have a X1900XT... i've had this card for about 2 weeks now or slightly more than 2 weeks... i've benched this baby a couple of times on 3dmark06... well plenty of times in fact...
but strangely for the first time yesterday i noticed artifacts in the canyon flight and deep freeze scenes... return to proxycon has no issues.. somehow it only seems to happen with the 2 SM3.0 scenes...
the only thing that has changed since the time i've got this card is the addition of a soundcard... and my entire rig is powered by a verudium 430W.. do u think my PSU is starting to feel the pinch??
or could there be something else a miss?? wad could be the reason tht it only happens during the SM3.0 scenes?? but return to proxycon is fine?? i've played GRAW a fair bit too and everything is maxed out but i do not notice and artifacts when playing GRAW and this problem sarted last night...

I have never heard of that psu to be honest and 430w might be kinda low for that card. How many amps on the 12v rail? I'm inclined to think its the psu as well. I have no clue why it only happens on certain tests but perhaps the power draw when running those particular sm 3.0 tests is a bit much for the way your system is currently setup. Just a thought however. I hope it gets better for you, I know I would be upset if my X1900XTX started showing arties out of no where. BTW, what kind you getting? white specs, black lightning, flashing?

I've just gotten an x1900xtx and am amazed at just how much current it pulls. My old 7800gtx used to make my 500W PSU whine a little when benching at maximum OC. But the 1900 makes the PSU sound like its about to expire. Voltage rails dip worryingly when its running full tilt.
I guess I need better cooling here. Mine is stable at higher volts and clocks (such as 725) right until it hits 65c, and then bloop, frozen.

What are your temps like? Is it 'safe' on air cooling full fan to use 1.55v on the core?
^^^ ATI says up to 100c (or more, I can't remember exactly) it's safe for the core. But I don't let mine go over 85c. Which is where the stock cooler (with AS5) gets with 1.55 and ~30c ambient.
Now I use a vf900cu and it's around 80c. For 24/7 I've got it at 1.5, 710/850
My core is really weird. Let's say I set it at 720 core, at 1.5v.. it's happy running artifact scanner until precisely 65c, on the dot and then it freezes, every time. Weird. I guess it's water cooling or a higher voltage for me
Isn't there something to the notion though that higher voltage + higher heat = higher chance of failure?
ie, 100c might be safe at the default 1.425 or whatever, but at 1.55 it may be less.
I have just tried running artifact scanner for the first time in awhile this afternoon. Temps are VERY HOT today, into the 30's ambient so thought it would be a good time to see how well it does under intense heat. I have been able to run artifact scanner for hours on end at 685/810 1.400v in the past. today I tried to go a tad higher on the ram as I know the core is at its limit at 1.400v. I put the memory to the next allowable step which was 814 and after 55mins I got a single artifact, after 1.5 hours I got a vpu recover and the card locked sending my monitors into standby. NP I thought, I'll just lower the memory back to 810 and as I know that was stable before. The card then locked up in vpu recover after 30 mins! Even less time than when the memory was higher. Temps really do play a factor in the cards stability cause once the core hit around 80's it would lock up. anything in the mid 70's and under and its fine. For a test I loaded up prey and let it sit at a graphically intense part for 1.5 hours while I watched a movie, when I came back it was still sitting there running fine and artifact free. Checking the temp log I could see the card got to 79c. Weird how ATItool crashes under this time frame but a game is fine. I am not completely satisfied knowing my card crashed in general cause I feel it should be 110% stable at all time no matter what. I guess if I can get over that I know games are good to go at my set speed and volts.
Bleh I ordered a new PSU today, I don't trust my current one (Enermax Liberty 620W). It's like 11.71v all the time on the 12v rail. IMHO not very stable when overclocking and stuff.
Anyways I ordered a OCZ GamersStream or what's it called. Seems to have very stable 12v rails. Let's hope so.
One (small) downside though. No modular cables. Oh well. Stability before tidyness. :P
AtiTool rotating cube seems to stress x1900 cards more than any existing application and crashes the 80% of PCs in this warm season even at stock speed, if you let it run for enough time.
I feel from now and in the future that the 100% rock stability in video cards will be for most users a dream. A new concept of relative stability will be used; it would be the stability in the 99% of known real applications at the moment of new video chips launch.
Probably in future video chips and/or drivers an auto slow down system will be implemented.

That is why I LOVE my powerstream with adjustable rails, even the new gamextream don't have adjustable rails which is why I hope the 12v is very strong and steady. With my full system under load, (spinning cube in atitool) I set my 12v rail to never drop below 12.05v leaving my system extremely stable no matter what is going on.
In Smartguardian my 12v is showing 11.83 and sometimes drops to 11.77... should I consider adjusting my 12v a slight tad or no? I have Powerstream 520w

i tried to overclock it, with my volts @ 1.40/2.25/2.25/1.5, i can barely touch 600/700, im not sure why this is happening with my ATItool, everytime i set the clocks, the ati tool locks up. :stick: :slapass:
when i try to overclock the card in the CCC, no probs.
btw, im using 6.3 cats and ati tool beta 14 [owh and im on the OCZ ADJ powerstream]

Have you tried the cat 6.6's?
darksythe it sounds like you aren't turning off the 3d mode switch . open task manager and see if you have ati2evxx.exe running if so disable them should be two instances of it ... always do that before opening ati tool or you can choose to let atitool do it for you each time.

I'm new to the X1xxx ati cards and to overclocking them so I have few questions: I use Atitool 0.25 beta 14 and it said at the startup that is has disabled the thing that switches to 2d and 3d clocks and volts. Now I have it all the time on 3D mode and my gpu voltage is 1.425v. So is this the right voltage for X1900XT? I readed the madshrimps X1900 overclocking guide and it said that the 1.425v is the stock 3D mode voltage on the gpu. Also how are my temps?, 62 idle, load 89. I took these temps while running the 3D thing in Atitool and my fan is on auto mode. And last one thing, it seems that the card starts to throttle at some point on the 3D view in Atitool, the fan speed drops and the Gpu power draw drops from 27a to 8a, also the fps on drops.
temps seem high Nazu but i'm on water so i don't know for sure mine was only on air for a short time and i don't remember how high it went. but as for the throttling mine has never done that except for when a bench or game sets off the vpu recover but never has throttled down. btw mine is a 1st batch card (bought it launch day ) so newer models may throttle but this is the first i've heard of it.
I ran 3D mark 05 and the score was 9330. Is that ok for my system? (same as in the signature). Also when I try to OC the gpu like 10MHz the score drops. What with that? I have the Ati Hotkey pollar disabled. Are there any other things I should note when overclocking this card.

one question about settings 3D-profiles iwth Ati Tool:
If I want 3D-settings 750/850 1.5V, I need first set the voltage to 1.5V (in voltage control & save it) and after that I set the clocks how I want. Then I save the whole profile for at use it later.. correct?
And now, when I want to run 3DMarks with these (My settings) it should set those clocks for 3D use?

yes those are the correct clocks and voltages for 2D mode (1.175_500/600).
You are also correct on how to make your own profile. First adjust voltage and save it to a profile, then adjust clocks as wanted and save to profile as well. In the menu of ATItool there is an option for which profile to load when entering 3D mode, choose the profile you just created and voila.

With watercooling i got some results.. (still not good enough!!)

for the life of me i cant stop my core from freezeing or black screening when i put it to high...
i can put the core at 740 and i will get no artifacts at all but it keeps freezeing up or freezeing then black screening.
and thats even with the vGPU @ 2.475v and 2.500v
whats the cause of this becuse the temps on the gpu are fine aswell on its cooler it never goes higher than 66c
there is also a bug with ati tool when useing it to overclock, the bloody computer will freeze and bring up a full screen with lines running verticaly down it when ever i try and play at avi or mpg file with powerdvd lol but if i run the card at default speeds i dont get that problem.
i only get the problem when in 3d clock settings. hehe, ati tool is bugging as hell

You need to save your 3D-voltage profiles. Otherwise the program will use the stock voltages. ( Is this your problem?)
If the problem is.. you can't hold your voltage-settings: (??)
1. (just for an example) Move the vGPU slider upper - where you want: 1.35V @ 1.45V--> apply that
2. Move the core slider upper 500 @ 700Mhz
3. Move the memory slider upper 600 @ 700, ---> set these settings--> make NEW profile --> (700/700) Save it, and LOAD.
Then go back into voltage settings, SAVE the voltage-profile to 700/700, and load it.
Hope it works and doesn't freeze when you test next time. :confused:

I am plagued with this issue too if I go too high or it gets too hot. Only with ATitool however. CCC overdrive doesn't do this even at much higher temps.
Does anyone else agree that ATI should add a simple fan speed adjusting slider to the overdrive tab of CCC? Should make things much easier for the end user especially those that install 3rd party apps just for this purpose.

I have little problems with my rams too, they only goes 860Mhz with stock voltage. I've tried between "stock @ 2.22V" Doesn't help. Next I'll try undervoltage.
Every time I've had some freezing-problems, it was because the vcore was too low. Does anybody have another ideas for this "freeezzzeee"

Try and lower mem voltage to 1.996 or somewhere around there. Perhaps you need a little more core voltage than what you have it set at now. My core is good at 680/800 in low temps or 675/800 in hotter temps at 1.4v. The fact that you got some progress is a start, keep playing and you will get it eventually. Your core/mem controller may also be weak and may not do as well as others. The fact that you have a normal XT makes it harder to do high core and mem as the XTX cores truly are cherry picked and generally do much better in this respect.
The R580 core is very bandwidth hungry and with current ram chips (GDDR3) the card is starved away. That is why the R580+ (X1950XTX) has GDDR4 ram equipped to provide the card with the extra bandwidth it needs.
With that in mind you will get better performance with higher mem clocks than core clocks.

maybe stupid but i have to ask...i think the problem is software(maybe atitool)somеtimes i set equally frequency(700/770 i sure they work) and the system again is freezing:confused:
