I know this is off topic but is there anyone that can help me with modding BIOS for the 460? I've never done anything like it, but I'd like to get the unlimited voltage or whatever so I can try out 1.1v up to 1.12v is possible. Currently maxing out at 930 core MSI TwinFrozr II 768MB.

so after skimming these pages, would you guys recommend the 260.99 drivers for the gtx 460?
I'd recommend 263.09 with the modded INF for the 460 cards.
using 263.06 tesla no need to mod performs much better than 260.99 and 263.09, 260.95 modded inf dont work on mine

trying them now sergio. I like 'em, thanks :toast:
being as impatient of a person as I am, when testing my vid card overclock I get bored running OCCT gpu error test alone and nothing else. you guys think it would it be okay to run the occt gpu stress test while also playing a game, or is that too much stress on my gtx 460?
yes bud give them a try i was surprised by the boost of perf on 3dm011
we are all impatients :D
its ok to do heaven test and then a 3dm011 and watch for artifacts, then game like 1h at BC2 or MOH you will see if its stable
one tip is raise IOH Core will boost your GFX perf too and put PCIE on 101+ i use 105
cheers and report back
i see the bug on your avatar looks very nervous lol

Thanks for the tips on 263.06 tesla, ioh, and pcie speeds!!
Really wanna try 6870, but I dunno if they clock as well.
it seems low to me idk ?

Seems low to me. Your average should probably be about 32FPS. I'd try 259.32 or 263.06 drivers, people seem to like them. Your fairly low CPU speed will play some factor as well, even in Crysis.
I haven't posted in forever but if ECS did anything right (because they have a crap reputation) it's this, how can you go wrong with a reference board and an Accerlero Twin Turbo Pro that was retrofitted for the card?
EDIT: Images are too big, I'll fix it tomorrow.
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous.

I'm getting a second one soon, good thing the 780i boards use the very top and bottom for 2 way SLI otherwise I would be screwed, this thing is a 3 slot cooler. The second one is pretty much only going to have that amount of clearance the first one has between my sound card. So it's almost going to be resting on the bottom of my case but not quite lol. I had to order an extra long SLI cable as well lol.
Wow.
How bout two?
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/5258/img0293j.jpg
I find my stable clock speeds to be much less impressive though. First card sat at 900 just fine, the second one not so much.
Oooh!
Wow really good clockers..

also some new red card bios too.
Sorry for the nub question, Im currently using a GTX460 and Id like to know whats with the 263.09 modded INF drivers and where can I get them for Windows 7 x64 ?
Im getting 870/1740/1000 on this card, seems like a semi-decent overclocker!
EDIT:
At 70% fan speed whats the safe max temps and voltages we can go on this card 1.100 ?
Well its nice to see people with these insane overclocks!! It encouraged me to overclock with my pair in SLi (Palit Sonic Platinums) and I think I've hit a brick wall, but a wierd one. I've searched and searched and can't see what I'm doing wrong.
My max clock right now is 871/1742/2098(1049)/1062mV
and the moment I go over that I see maybe one 'red dot' or two in Heaven benchmark and I know its not stable, so what do you do? Increase the voltage! This however presents a new problem, the moment I go over 1062mV Voltage the card while benching will eventually do the following:
Ramp up fan speed to cool down card but a few seconds later, BAM, Black screen, then the fans will go even faster probably to 100% and the machine will stay like this.
In this state the PC will still be running in the background, HDD spinning and Led flashing indicating usage, if music is possibly playing it will continue to play such as the heaven benchmark music which confuses the S...ugar out of me!
What I did notice was it may be linked to temps. Over 80c and it would 'black out' on me. Ramping the fans up didn't change the temps much so it may be that. Another senario could be the lack of a VRM heatsink, I tried to solve this by cuting a small part of a XBOX 360 GPU heatsink I had lying around(not that everyone would:p:) and covering both VRMS with it and the result of that is I found generally in games the fans didn't spin up as much, especially in crysis! Result you would think, no. 880Mhz showed the red dot I talked about but I didn't hear the fans as much, when seeing the red dot I instantly stoped the bench but upon returning to the desktop I noticed the temp was 77c at that point but up to that point the bench was fine, hmm :explode:. Third and last senario I could think of is the power supply: its an XFX 650w XXX PSU and Supposedly my whole system using the online calculator consumes 590w and although it includes my CPU overclock it doesn't take into account my 460 overclock but then again why would the rest of my system run if the PSU was overloaded?
Two other things I've noticed is that some people reach 90c no probs and one person with the same card as me got to 900 core. Also I'm not sure if it was this forum but I think I saw someone say that they're only stable for their clocks at 60c.
Any ideas? I'm going to go watercooling soon so I'm hopeful for that, my load temps with the max clock is around 77-79c
Thats the same place my card ran out of steam with 1.07v.
I took off the pos fan and cover changed the patse slapped a bigger/better fan to it + volts @ 1.13v = 940 ok to bench, test and play bf2 np.
some tests i love this cards
with new drivers i get a nice boost on fps, first 3dm011 is on 263.14 and heaven on latests

woah, nice rig. Why dont ya watercool those cards? Wait a sec you got to 900, you must have good airflow, what temps you getting?

Ran some Kombustor. There's no proof of me using Kombustor specifically (because I don't know how to fit it on the screen) but you can see the stress the GPU was under in the Afterburner graphs.
I swear I can get 1GHz if I could overvolt past 100mV... it stays stable for like 20 seconds in Kombustor with 1GHz, but fails after that.
EDIT: Stock cooling from MSI's Hawk. Haven't played enough with memory timings/voltage yet. I did add a little auxiliary voltage and that definitely helped the card stay a little more stable when I did a 970MHz run. I didn't feel like it was worth showing you guys because, while it was stable, it didn't seem trustworthy.

nice rig man and nice OC, but what's the real volts for 950 ? my Sonic Platinum you can see above take 1.087 for 900/1800/4000 and i can game crysis, moh and bc2 perfect but over that needs more volts

did anyone try flashing with gtx 560 bioses ?
Not yet. But these are supposed to be gtx560 bios's, http://techpowerup.com/vgabios/index...ace=&memSize=0
however I'm not sure of the validity, I'll open them up in my hex editor and examine.
And this guy has flashed yet it stayed at the 336sp http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/9240...y-460-a-3.html
I tried the Tesla 263.06 and got roughly the same score (coming from 266.58WHQL ) on 3dmark06 and Vantage and a tiny bit lower on 3dmark11 and the same 41.5 fps on MafiaII ( The current game that Im playing ) so Im guessing the optimizations are already in the 266.58 ?
EDIT:
I was reading around about unlocking the max volts for the card using a bios mod and tried to grab an image of my bios, used GPU-Z to save a copy of my bios and opened it up under nibitor, integrity button is red, used nibitor instead to dump the bios and the integrity button is also red.. Im using a Inno3d GTX460 OC model. Any suggestions on this ?
I managed to edit my bios to increase voltage upto 1.212v and unlocked the fan speed upto 100%
Even at stock speeds, the VRM gets very toasty and I cant even put my finger there longer than a second, so I added some heatsink on the VRM using those Coolermaster mini heatsinks with some 3M thermal tape, the heatsinks becomes very hot as well during load so this means they are doing their job, still the back side is pretty toasty.
Would would 1.212v be safe for 24/7 usage ( gaming ) ?
Aside from Kombustor do you guys still use 3dmark for synthetic stability test ? What specific tests?
Does anyone got any test with An AMD 955
i know i will get bashed for asking but its ok
I'm using EVGA GTX 460 1GB EE. The default VID is 1.00V and I edited the BIOS to run at 800/1600/2000 with NiBiTor.
A few days I go, I got a Sparkle GTX 460, purple fan version for SLI. The default VID is 0.9375V.
I tried to clock it to match EVGA's 800/1600/2000 but it couldn't finish 3D Mark 11 loop so I guess the low VID is the culprit.
Is 0.9375V too low to reach 800/1600/2000? Or the card I got is crappy with bad heatsink? Temperature is lower than my VGA though, and less noise.
Could be, you can always try 1.0v then you should be fine. Temps don't sound like the problem here.
I would also like to know if 1.2v or just under would be good for 24/7 gaming? Especially if your under water? Personally from what I've seen on this forum is that it shouldn't be a problem;)
Thanks Ket for your help making the new bios.

On a laptop right now sold my 8800GTS going to be ordering a MSI GTX 460 768mb card the twin fan one here soon. Couple questions: Are the 263.06 still considered the best drivers? Also where is a good place to download them?
Lastly what should I expect to OC this thing too w/out raising the voltage (average estimate)? I'm not sure what it is running at stock, but the card is running at 750Mhz.
I have an Asus GTX460 TOP (700 gpu default), but I'm having a problem. In idle the card is at 405 and 51MHz instead of 700MHz (default). I would always leave to 700MHz, is it possible? Thanks!

up, any golden gtx 460 ?
So I ran 3DMark11 @ 800Mhz with my 768mb card this is the score I got. I didn't have my driver settings all fancy when I ran it though can you guys tell me if these are good or not?
P3272 3DMarks What I don't understand in the Results on their website it says my processor is a Intel Pentium III Xeon? WTF is that about? http://3dmark.com/3dm11/946427
It also says Physical / Logical Processors 1/4????
I also ran 3dMark Vantage at 750Mhz yesterday and got:
3DMark Score 11981.87 3DMarks,
Graphics Score 13599.55,
CPU Score 8830.63
I just want to make sure everything is where it should be.
270.51 beta drivers
If you want a golden GTX460 you need to buy one that comes from the factory with a really high core clock (the GPUs on these cards are picked based on low k leakage) otherwise you will find "normal" GTX460s hitting about 850-900MHz. Problem with this method is that super clocked 460s sell for close to the price of a 2GB GTX560.. so may as well get the 560 in that case.
3DM11 may be being slightly biased as you have a 768MB card. I can't comment specifically as you don't say what your CPU and memory is clocked at but for comparisons sake my 1GB GTX 460 @ 875 / 4000 scores around 4050pts in 3DM11, so your score of 3272 seems slightly off the mark to me I'd say it should probably be around ~3600pts.
When you run it do you guys have your card set to high performance or quality?
P3209
Okay so I changed my setting in the drivers to what you said in my other thread and all my scores went down even more lol
AF 8x
Antialiasing Transparency 2x
Multi display set to single display performance
Power Mng mode Prefer Maximum performnce
Texturing filtering set to clamp
Texture set to High Quality
Tiple Buffering On
Vertical Sync Force Off
I ran everything the same as above except I set it to High performance P3213 3DMarks
Hardly any difference 3 points.
Running my card at 850Mhz P3353 3DMarks
What am I doing wrong here?
When running a benchmark you leave the CP alone ;) reset the CP to defaults and re-run the test.
A lot of people run it either at default or high performance, I always run my benches at high quality.
I still think your score is a bit off base, but theres a plethora of hardware and software optimisations to do to get the absolute best score which need to be factored in. Your missing points are likely amongst unoptimised hardware and software configurations.
Theres quite a few things I do, none of them are "cheats" (for example, those people who disable aero to squeeze more points) my optimisations are simply that, optimised configurations without sacrificing visuals or stopping Windows services that would otherwise be running. Be ready to take notes :p:
- Download modded Quadro 267.17 drivers (very good performance and image quality, stable too)
- Click start>run>type "services.msc" google the services on startup type "automatic" and "delayed start" and decide which you can switch to manual which won't affect you. (Don't outright disable the services, if you do anything that depends on that service will not be able to start) This won't only help speed up Windows, but also reclaim some of your RAM.
- Of course, the usual HDD, registry and boot-time defragmentations along with cleaning out all those old musty restore points and making a single new fresh one and a cleanup of the registry. Diskeeper and Tuneup utilities are excellent apps for these tasks.
- Again obvious, but the latest drivers for all your hardware.
- Download Regcleaner and click the "startup" tab, you'll be surprised at all the sh|t that starts up with Windows that really doesn't need to. This is yet another way to speed up Windows and reclaim more RAM.
With the software side done, moving on to hardware
- Make sure your hardware is optimised for is current configuration, for example; memory timings, FSB/BCLK, any on-board mainboard hardware you don't use is disabled, etc.
- Lastly, don't be too conservative with your 24/7 OCs, as long as load temps are reasonable, you're good to go.
Well, theres the rough and ready guidelines but you can't go too far wrong following them. Just remember a benchmark is not the defacto of a PCs performance, benchmarks are little more than a simulation. Try to run tests based on real games such as the AvP benchmark, Crysis / Warhead benchmarks, Stalker benchmarks, etc.
found mini guide for services.msc http://www.askvg.com/master-tutorial...-7-super-fast/ I'll look into regcleaner, How are the 267.17's vs. 270.51's? Do you have a link to thw 267s that are ready to go for win 7 64bit? I don't have to modify any inf files or anything to get it to run will I? Thanks
With Nvidia do I need to run driver cleaner or does Nvidia when starting the driver do a good job of getting rid of the older one since it seems to have that feature now
Drop me a PM with your email and I'll send you the modded inf to get the 267s to install.
My best results with Nvidia GeForce 460 sli, 3rd screen was with a single card. This was with Kets bios mod. Sry for the crappy screens, I dont have the originals anymore.

Thanks, thats with the moded bios you sent using stock cooling and very cool ambient. Got some points at HWbot for those runs. 1st place in 3dm03 2xgtx460 class, 1st place in 3dm05 2xGTX460 class.
