thats weird ... memtest booted right up ...
you got your boot priority set to cd rom first?

:D... Not so far to search :p:
Yah, some bootable CD's work fine, other's dont. I don't understand it, the ones that don't boot on this board boot fine on other boards I have.
I was reading a thread on here with people having similar problems with the P5W DH Deluxe, Where if you have both the Intel Raid bootrom, and Marvell bootrom enabled this happens. I'm using the intel raid ports so I can't disable and swap to the marvell to see if it works, and if i disable the marvell the CDROM drive disappaers totally.
I'm guessing my IDE CDROM has some sort of compatability issue with this board it is a LITE-ON SHM-165P6S... anyone able to recommend a drive that they know functions 100% correctly and has a black bezel?

This is how it looks whithout the original NB atachment, as you can see you can put any air cooler like thermalright, or any waterblock that is the size of the copper base on the center of heatspreder.
Mr. Copenhagen69, Baxxxter, and Mr-Rob thx for the replies. Sounds like a few satisfied Maximus II Formula owners.
Really nice board :D
Easy with e8xxx, strange with X3350 (but 4Ghz inside), not so easy with Q6600 (I need more tests to break 9x470, but I'll do it)
Some stuffs are hard to understand in the bios, but it's just a matter of time ;)
No regrets at all, my second choice was a WS from Asus too. But I prefer this desgin.
Glad to help, if i only can...;)
mr-rob, can you do me a favour, and realy try to stable out max on Q6600. Then if you could post the voltages and settings, maybe some findings, what this motherboard likes or dislikes, what shoud i be careful about... Sry but i am not the expert in overclocking, so i would apreciate it if you could help a bit...
Another thing, what would be the bad temperatures for this motherboard? Despite waterblock on mine, it idles POWER 35°, NB 39°, SB 42°, Motherboard 33°. Load takes it average 2-3° higher, exept for POWER somewhere about 45°. In my oppinion this are still high temperatures... Oh and system is overclocked 9x412, all voltages are AUTO except Vcore and RAM. Can you guys post some temperatures of your motherboards...? :) Tnx in advance!
Guys, don't know what just happend. I updated the bios to 0802 from 0503.
I use Everest to monitor the temps.
In 0503 my CPU was 36°-38°, but now in 0802 it's 20°. Double-checked in
CoreTemp, also 20°. That's weird.
Oh and lost NB/SB temps in Everest with 0802
 My Q6600 is actually in "lapping", I reach for now P2000, my goal is a P12000 :D.
I will do it with pleasure, but not now because I work on my 2nd mod (with MF1) and in the same time, I don't really finished my other mod (the one with MF2).
My Q6600 is full stable @ 9x460 on MF1. Boot+Screen @ 9x470.
I run with it between 9x400/9x450.
->On MF2, this Q6600 seems to run better (specially with lower voltage for the same parameters).
->It also capable of running @ FSB510 (max 470 on MF1).
->It doesn't boot with STRAP 400.
My guess (hope...) is that the Q6600 will run higher with MF2.
I don't know what the Motherboard & POWER's temp' really means...
Your NB/SB's temp' look nice. But I just have 1° between NB & SB.
->The overheat protection on NB is set to 90°, so it's correct.
However, on a real NB WB (on my MF1), my NB's temp' is about 33° to 37°, even with a 9x450. So I think that just cooling the NB with the cooling system is not so bad.
Despite your given temp', you don't give the essential temp': The core's one...
->It's really important to give it.
For example:
http://images4.hiboox.com/vignettes/...47565fa846.jpg
(lol, look at the NB's temp' without WB & with bad contact)
I think I'll test the "ALL MAX" in a week.
:)
Oh and lost NB/SB temps in Everest with 0802 [/QUOTE]
Check your preferences. I have nb and sb temps with 0802. I had to turn them on in preferences.
NB/SB in Everest is solved, installed latest BETA thnx :p:Quote:

Would anyone be so kind as to post some quick voltages used for a 500 FSB? I have an E8400 (8x multiplier) and have found the max Vcore needed for about 4.0-4.1ghz. I'm interested in knowing VTT, vNB, PLL. I'm starting at VTT=1.2, vNB=1.2, and PLL=1.5. Thanks!
i have mine a 4GHz (9x 445) and i have my CPU PLL on auto and looked at the voltage and it was 1.77 ... that seemed kinda high so i was trying to lower it and its not stable with anything lower ...
any other way to lower it down some?
My fans are always at minimum rpm possible ~600rpm :P i like peace and quiet. You are probably right when you say that mosfets are a lot hotter, who knows where the POWER sensor is located... and your temperatures of the NB seems pretty bad  Put some air to it :D
:) 510 max for now... It was at the beginning of my MF2's adventure .
And with Cas4 on my Mushkin . I think it was due to a lake of voltage on Vdram ;)
Auto on CPU PLL give me the same...
1.62v (limite of green voltage) works normally...
My cooling system was "only" based with ONE X-Changer 360 :p:... With 6 SilentX iXtrema 120 push-pull. @50%, it's quite quiet.
As I can see, you've got 2 rad360 :p: And my NB & 8800GTS arre WCed too...
(actually, my MF2 is on another case with 1 HWlabs GTS 360+6 Ultra Kaze@5v, with NB & GPU WCed)
My NB's temp' was @ the time when I wasn't WCed yet ... Now it's much better despite it's sumer time (ambiant temp' @ 32° :()
mr. rob i tried to lower the PLL and it wont pass P95 for more than like 20 mins
any ideas?
This is straight after turning on, mild winter weather.
All air, no washer mods yet.
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4...esteverca0.jpg
where would the mild winter weather be ... and whats mild to you haha mild to me in texas is 80 :)
australian :)
The room temp is about 22C now but my NB and SB is always about 42C is it high? Everything is in default setting and I see some others has 3XC so why am I having the temp a bit high?
What`s about performance level ? How low can do that P45? Give me some everest cash&memory tests.
Thanks in advance.
I have the Gskill PC8800 and it was 6 at some point before I update something but now is 7 I don't know why. by the way is the performance level suppose to be low means good I thought higher the better?
It is PL=8. DimmVoltage is 2.0V(Bios) and 2.1 real.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9...oarddu3.th.png
Nope, my friend. PL=6 better than PL=8 :)
Ok guys, i feel i must buy MIIF and make great clock with my CellShock"RedDevil" :)
whats max fsb hit on this board dual and quad ? :)
Everest Ultimate using vista sidebar gadget.
just did a Q6600 & 8GB DDR2-800 OC with the following settings;
Manual Settings
Multi = 8
FSB = 400
DDR2-801
Gives 3.2Ghz and 8GB of DDR2-800 5-5-5-12 (safe settings for now)
- CPU Volts = 1.35000
- CPU PLL = 1.50000
- FSB = 1.29875
- DRAM = 1.95900
- NB = 1.29875
- SB 1.5 = 1.55300
- SB 1.1 = 1.15300
Running Prime95 with round-off checking temps on NB got 49*C which was cooler than 266FSB without the washer mod (53*C)
Still could do with tweaking, but need to share settings with other Q6600 + M2F users.
At least it booted up and into windows without any bugs.
I have a really strange problem going on.
First, for the normal part. I can play with oc all over the place, adjusting fsb, vcore and ratio with all the expected limits re heat, vcore, etc. I get a stable (occt and Everest)456 * 9.5 at 1.3825 vcore.
I can play infinitely so long as I do restarts or ONLY one power off boot. If I do a second power off the system hangs and will not boot until I turn power completely off at the PSU and then it reboots with cleared cmos.
This does not happen at all with fsb below 430. At 430fsb or higher the problem persists regardless of multiplier.
I don't think it is mobo hardware because all operations are normal so long as I limit to a fsb at 422*9.5. A 4009 stable with E8500 ain't so bad but this limit is truly weird.
My next try is to roll back to a bios prior to 0802 and see if that helps. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.
update:
I rolled back to the 0701 bios and it made no difference. :(
with my e6600 max 510 MHz FSB (HTT) ....
but i dont come higher, evenso when i turn up the FSB / NB voltage.
i guess that at 510 mhz begins the fsb-hole ...
i was looking @ getting this board but @ $150 aud i can't go past the dfi p45 plus does 640fsb dual.. and half the price of this baord
Heres mine:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...y/DSC00379.jpg
Going to game on it tonight. Wish i knew how to OC, im trying to learn (any1 willing to help .)
But is it just me or is the BIOS on this oard confusing :P I dont know how to do anything, and cant find anything listed in guides that i read.
I sent back the E8400 and replaced it with the E8500. I hope I can reach 500FSb ! Has any one gotten there E8500 to 4 GHz with a 500 FSB and what Voltages were used ?
you will love this board it can do really high fsb with really low voltages ( if i compare it with the p35 boards that needed really high NB volts to reach higher fsb speeds).. i'd recommend using the asus overclocking tool to overclock straight from windows it makes finding the max settings little bit more faster than always going to bios..
BTW if anyone of you guys are suffering from high NB temps thats hindering you from getting that littlebit of extra from your board but dont wanna resort to water cooling, you might wanna check this out..
after i found that my boards heatpipe thingie had the worst contact ever with the NB chip, i did this simple little thing.. i added 2 metal washers ontop of the plastic ones that comes with the board...it helped me to drop 20c of my NB temps ( remember i had a horrible contact before, you might not get such a big drop in tepms like i did :D)..
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1216.jpg
Hi :)
Does the Thermalright 120Ultra eXtreme fit in this mainboard?
I'll remove the four foam between the NB and the heatpipe. I'll take caution.
Yes, just watch out for the little black boxes around the socket (mosfets i think they arel).
The X bracket can move around while installing it.
Now, can someone give a rough voltage for a 475FSB NB setting?
Surely there are generic settings for each level of FSB, considering all the boards have the same heatsink cooling it.
mmm the board seems to handle quads pretty well too :D

0901 Bios is on the Asus web site. I will try it and report back.
0901 bios is just fine so far. A problem I had with resuming from sleep mode with fsb higher than 422 is resolved. The bios seems stable so far. I just ran OCCT at 4.2 ghz for one hour stable.
Crucial Tracers runs OK in this mobo?
Buy CellShock "Red Devil" ;)
Just got this new set up and I can't get my E8400 to run at 3.0ghz (stock speed). I've already set both C1E and IST to off, but cpu-z shows my speed at 2.0ghz and a multiplier of 6. Is this a problem with the mb or the cpu? :(
Is anyone running a E8600 on this board yet?
Just pickup a E8600 here today in Japan but was told that the board needs a bios update to run it as the E8600 comes with the E0 stepping
Guys im having trouble with the Sound, i get no sound whatsoever. I went to the Asus site to download the sound drivers for this board, and when i try to install it i get a "Hardware incompatible" error. Is any1 else having this problem or is it just me?
This is of course the sound card that came with the board.
Try the drivers on the disk that came with the board - they work for me.
Where are the sound drivers? i looked all over the CD and cannot find anything!
Did you install the sound card in the black pci slot ? If not That's your problem :D
yeh, Stupid me i thought it didnt matter. The thing is that when the card is in the Black slot, it doesnt allign with my case, so i put it in the other slot. I cant mout it on cuz it doesnt allign. I tried untightening the mobo screws and shifting the mobo but it didnt help. Its not the case because i had no problems with the board before this one (Same board, had to RMA it)
But its working, and ive got sound now. It just looks bad when looking at the case -_- ill take pictures tomorrow.
Thanks though!
I`m glad you`re ok now ;) Good luck mate.
This is my review :d

No :(, but this is the important pages that doesn't need translation ;)

http://www.sx-team.com/index.php?opt...4&limitstart=6
Yeah! M2f is very good mobo! Mate, tell me please, what are your temps at NB and SB ?
Oh, ok then. Will go shop on this week. Hope, my temps will be ok.
Is anyone running a E8600 on this board yet, just pickup the board and E8600 with the new E0 stepping
I got one yesterday and am still testing. Stable at 440*10 @ 1.26v
450*10 appears stable @ 1.32 but temps are ranging around 70c.
Bios 0901
All settings other than Vcore and ram temp (2.15 for dominators) are at auto. I would like suggestions for other settings particularly to get to a lower than 1.31 vCore for 4500.
Thanks genec57,
Did the board come with the 0901 Bios? I was told that I will need to make sure the board is running at least the 0802 Bios to use this CPU.hoping that it will boot for me to upgrade to the 0901.
Also did you tighten your heat-sink screws under the board, I have read here that the NB runs hot because the contact is not good.
I just tighten mine just in case.
Im getting this board soon. I just saw the washer mod on the NB. Do I also have to add washers to the SB? And when the washers are already on do i have to really tighten the screws? Sorry, just making sure :D
Thanks in advance!
@xzulu ...im pretty sure you will be fine!! just check the temps from bios.. if they are around 40c your ok. ;)
did somebody checked how is the highest fsb with E8600 ?
Hello i have an interesting trouble with that motherboard.
I am now on stock speed, no overclocking. I can past any stress tests orthos, memtest, prime95 for hours. No problem but when i try to play games or 3dmark06 i would not survive more than a minute without promptly rebooting the entire system. I tried different Videocard, CPU, memory, PSU. The problem is exactly on either board or BIOS.
Look at these links, reviewers had the exact same problem:
http://www.techspot.com/review/105-a...ula/page9.html
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...d.php?t=194444
Please help me
My config:
Asus Maximus II Formula
Intel E8500
OCZ Reaper 2x2gb 1066mhz
Sapphire Ati HD4870
WD 300gb Velociraptor
Silverstone OP1000
I had a similar problem with this board and an overclocked E8500. It would pass stress testing and then, with no warning, crash while doing simple things like browsing with Firefox with or without bluescreen. Even though it had passed stress it seemed to want more vCore which seemed to help. Since I have upgraded to the E8600 and do not have that problem at all.
I don't really think the issue is chip related. More likely, it is bios/chip related.
You might try the 0901 bios if you haven't already.
A second thought - have you run memtest86 on your ram chips? Also, try imcreasing the voltage on your ram a notch or two.
My present challenge is really crazy temps. Overclocking the E8600 to 4.5 I am getting temps in the mid to high 70s though my vCore is only around 1.35. Everything on the board is barely warm to the touch so I am thinking screwy sensors.
I have bios 0901. I tried all published bioses.
I tried two different rams(ocz and muskin at default speeds). and no solution.
In Turkey we dont have a RMA process that you have.
I can only return it incase it is broken. So i have to try to fix it
I'm having a strange problem with this board.
Approximately 25% of the time that I boot up my system the OS hard drive doesn't boot.
There's no LED activity.
I have to turn off my PSU and then turn it back on, then the hard drive boot's up.
I have checked the cables, looked at the SMART values with Speedfan, HD Tune they show the drive as fine.
I also have a fan on the drive, so i don't think it could be heat.
I'm using bios 802, could a bios update to 901 possible fix it.
Anyone have this experience, or a possible solution?
Sounds like a possibly failing hard drive to me.
Has any one used a Q9450 on this board and what results are you getting ?
what kind of hd do you have? this is common with the WD6400AAKS.
