That is REALLY nice for just a single disc but, you lose in the access times dept.

I knew that I-ram was good but, I didn't realize there was ZERO access time.Really nice. I just don't like the limited capacity.
Supposedly the ACard Device was going to be out end of august
ddr2 with up to 8GB dimms
http://www.acard.com/english/newstabpop.jsp?idno=81
I never heard of that one, it is better, twice the capacity of the I-rams. When they get over 10gigs is when they would be more appealing. By that time the Fusions will have gone down in price. I'm kind of commited to the SSD's now. (Invested alot) I figure if I get a good controller card and continue to add SSD's to my RAID0 I'll have SCREAMING throughput.
no, it takes a single 8GB ddr2 stick for a max of 64gb for the 2 sata port model

Man that has a high burst rate! whats the difference from a regular raptor? I mean other than the higher capacity. Is it the interface? I'm thinking mine has a 1.5gb/sec interface
its a bit higher in sustained and burst and has ncq afaik, SATA 3Gb/s interface on the VR's, I don't own any 150's and 300's but I believe they are a bit faster than my 80GB models
That was the OEM model (that comes in Dells) btw not sure how a desktop version would differ (probably only slightly)
Will have Samsung Spinpoint F1 320's (HD322HJ) and a 60GB OCZ Core V2 shortly
Got a email back from Acard with regards to their drive, its been pushed back to October, really looking forward to that :D

I haven't looked in the thread but I imagine this is a bit unique. 4GB CF 300X connected to a CF to IDE converter. All this PC is used for is surfing the Internet so space is relatively unimportant.

Man your read/write levels are almost as high as mine and I have three SSD's. This leads me to believe if I got a RAID controller card it would increase my performance. I kind of figured it would but, I wasn't completely
convinced I ought to spend the money on one.

Not bad rickvtv6, but i wonder how the burst rate is so terribly low...especially with a 32MB cache drive. Maybe it's the nVidia SB hurting it.

Happy with results.
Wow...nice result with the 2TB array, Empty_Quarter. 10.0ms access time.
tell me about it! dunno, you think its that? the nvidia drivers are up to date, but when you select the health tab it doesnt show anything, nor the temp, also if you select the info tab it doesnt show the buffer? windows recognises the drive as a scsi drive but its sata2? could this have any part of it??
In Bios do you have Sata Controller in RAID mode? If yes, then this maybe a reason for the non-reading temp and the 'scsi' instead of 'sata'....
As for the performance : yes, the nvidia can be the reason...I gained in average read rate & access time in an NV430 only by using Fernando's WHQL Pack drivers ...You can try them...
i have all the raid settings disabled along with the ata settings.
is there any other drivers for vista x64 these only state xp 32 n 64?
Thnx.
i connected a cheap sata2 samsung 250gb drive i had lying around and got double the burst rate but slight lower max. (pretty embarrassing considering that 1tb is designed for 24/7 servers)
i might try swapping the sata connector to a diff port later and see if that makes any diff.
the fact that the samsung showed a massive improvement on the burst rate to me shows it isnt a board issue. will post the shot later.
2 x Samsumg Spinpoint F1 HD322HJ 320GB RAID0

GREAT i think i figured why my burst rate was so low, the jumper was in the drive limiting its transfer to the sata1 setting! wont be sure if that fixes it till this sat when i get my q9550 as the system is taking a break in pieces. the stupid thing is i have had the drive like this the whole time for approx 6 months and if it wasnt for this thread i would never have realized!
so thankyou fade2green514, if it wasnt for you i would have never realized the problem i didnt know i had now untill i d/l your link! lmao. look 4ward to the new post of what im hoping wil be an average burst rate with the q9550 :)
cheers!
Rick
Hey Rick, glad you fixed that..whenever you can, post the new benchmark...
Except the Sata I/II jumper which was the problem, which link do you mean that helped you?
Did you try the driver pack i mentioned and if so did you have performance increase?
Cheers mate
felix
Hey, going to drivers subforum's first page you could also find the drivers for Vista 32 /64...I used the "Special NF4 RAID WHQL Driverpacks" for my x64 Vista install on my NF4 machine...excellent results in contrary to the new-released 15.24 version...Try them and you'll see...
will this work with the 790i?
never mind im a noob! lmao
do you think i should use this one? im not using RAID just the single 1TB and a storage drive.
2. New: "NF4-7 Performance Pack with modded 10.3.52.4 IDE"
ill d/l and once my system is rebuilt this saturday i will bench after the jumper removed and b4 the driver and after to see if any difference.
i thought i cooked the e8400 but i think it overheated somehow (never see above 56c) when i went to load a game it worked for about 2 mins then black screen auto rebooted then constant beep from the mobo, i diagnosed it to the processor as i got a spare crappy E21 1.6ghz duel which booted but i replaced the E8400 back in there and it rebooted fine?? but i aint riskin it ill just put it away and slap in the q9550. i think that might be a sign its got cancer??lol
i installed the version 10... as mentioned above, but im unsure if that caused the change as after i removed the sata1 jumper i was hitting a burst of about 81 once i disabled the enabled command queuing i then got around 160-170 instantly. a simple check box was holding me back. the drivers installed fine tho so there is no guarantee that it would increase it and i dont want to uninstall them as its running smooth now.

I got a P5Q Deluxe, 4850, 2gb ram and as you can see my hd is the samsung f1 750gb it looks very low on the transfer rate especially on minimum.. i was wondering im runing this rig with very very cheap 600w power supply that cost like 10€..
any ideas?
the minimum transfer rates is being affected by another app accessing the disk while you are running the bench (nearly positive of this)
a "normal" graph will have nearly no dips in it, and your low side would typically be around 40MB/s according to that graph (which still seems kind of low for a F1 but not terrible)
r0lfi's 1x SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1000GB is roughly what all conventional hard disk graphs should look like differing obviously in the actual speeds but the general shape of the graph should be like that
Nop i tryed right now restarting my PC and with nothing workin except HD tune i got 10mb\s on the minimum transfer rate, may my disc not working well or is it not enough power, like i said my power supply is not good at all..
im not home right now but i have 4x 10k RPM SCSI ultra 320 drives that only get about 50mb/s read. my access tim is nice aafter reading a bunch here at 7.7ms. is it my controller card tahts makin it slow? its an adaptec 3200s raid card. it has a 32mb SD ram cache. ill post results when i get home.
anybody checkout my results? looks pretty low on the Transfer Rate...

I'm going to throw this in the case and see if the benchmarks are faster there.
HD Tune: ST9120822AS Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 31.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 29.6 MB/sec
Access Time : 15.7 ms
Burst Rate : 25.4 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 7.9%
In case, connected to MB sata:
HD Tune: ST9120822AS Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 43.7 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 34.4 MB/sec
Access Time : 15.5 ms
Burst Rate : 104.9 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 1.4%
The USB interface probably limited the speed in the first, which was flat out to 70%, where both graphs declined at the same rate.
Add:
HD Tune: Maxtor 120Gb 2.5" via USB OneTouch Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 27.9 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 26.9 MB/sec
Access Time : 16.2 ms
Burst Rate : 20.8 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 65.2%
Slower flat line than the other USB connection, probably because it's powered through there too, where the Seagate had a sep. power supply through the Inland adapter off AC. Flat to 80%, dives off 45 deg. after to min.
I'm curious on those SSDs getting 400mb/sec, spec. the OCZ Core I, are you getting stuttering effects? I'm thinking about buying one Core II at new egg ($79 after rebate) and just putting my OS/Vuze/Office on it ... anyone try this?
they are fine if you take some precautions but ideally you want to run them on a caching raid controller, and the better the controller the better the scaling

I decided against the 30 gb ssd, I haven't the ching for 2 for a raid, and the battery savings for my laptop is only 7% from what I read, so I can't justify it like that if it didn't speed up my OS at home tons...thanks for this thread, it's nice to see what what's out there.

No, can't boot from it but it is automatically loaded on boot so that in all other ways it looks like a hard drive to the system. You can put any apps on it, just not the OS. Much like iodrive right now until their firmware update (but faster than iodrive ;) ).
