I have 2 RAIDs and have no problems. I enable RAID in the bios. I install the Intel Matrix Storage Console. If "Volume Write-Back Cache" is not enabled, I right click the RAID volume and enable it.

The device manager will not show the change because it is controlled by the Intel Matrix Storage Console. No changes should be made in the Device Manager settings. And are seen in Device Manager under "Storage Controllers/ Intel...)

Maybe you can help me. My p5b deluxe after a failed oc just keeps cycling when I try to turn it on. It will not post. I remove the cmos battery and unplugged everything for 2 weeks still nada.

Try this, put the ASUS CD in and try to boot. There is a utility on that disk. Then read about the Crash Free Bios 3. If not, call ASUS and try to RMA it as a "Crash Free Bios 3" Failure.

I meant to post this in the P5W DH deluxe my mistake but I think still applies to this board.

Please note I said non raid configurations, intel allowed raid setups to enable write back cache but not single drive setups. I know you may say use ide compatibility mode but then NCQ cannot be utilised.

Hello :)

May I ask what memory timings/settings you are using to run Vista 64bit with 4GB of RAM? I'm using CORSAIR XMS2 DDR2 800 (PC2 6400). With 2GB of RAM, everything runs fine. However, it will blue screen if I use 4GB. I heard that I may have to up the memory voltage or possibly run the RAM at a lower speed?

What are your timings???

If you up the _ + + _ ... Example 4-4-4-12 to 4-5-5-12 should work.

Run MemTest . The 1st suspect in strange crashes in faulty memory chips.
and stop any OC. first get a stable system at defaults / mfctr settings.

I have had a P5B deluxe with 3 different 4 sticks of memory configurations. every setup required tRCD and tRP at 5 or greater. That is the only change I need to make from the 2 to 4 memory stick configuration. Increased memory volts were needed for overclocking either 2 sticks or 4. It was the save volts requirement in either setup.

With 4 sticks you can try the TRFC at 35. But, for 4 sticks I have needed that set to 42.

I keep the others set at defaults. They are 10 and 11. I think that these setting are used by OEM when optimizing of the bios.

Please let me know if it works. I now have 4 sticks and 8GBs rated at 5-5-5-18 Running at 5-5-5-15. But, I think I May set it to 5-6-6-18. I had a blue screen the other day. I really don't think it was memory. But, If I move it, I can forget it. I prime tested for days with no errors.

Before several stability updates for Vista, I needed to do testing in XP. Vista would crash every so often. Even at default settings. It is much more stable now.

I have done extensive performance testing mainly to let me know when and where I will need to upgrade. I had a P35 motherboard for a few days. I returned it only because I did not like boards secondary IDE controller. I found a few benchmarks increased a little bit. But, overall, I don't think there was significant improvement. One exception, I did not experience the Vdroope that is on the P5B. But, I have found a Vcore setting that I can live with.

Anyway, I put my trusty P5B back in. I am going to wait for some new technology. I believe what is out and will be out in the next few months is only a refinement of the old technology.

I hope that by the time the new CPU socket comes out, the price of DDR3 comes down some. I just assembled a decent system that was about the cost of some good DDR3 memory.

I flashed new 1219 bios on my p5b deluxe and now vista x64 detects my E6600@8x400=3200MHz as 2.13GHz (before was detected as 3.6GHz). It's seems like vista only detects multiplyer (8x266=2128MHz) not FSB.

My 10th Anniversary died. BOTH, no overvolting , mild 20% OC by AI NOS ..

Got Gskill HK . see sig . 500 at better than default timings !
CPU has Vdroop of : 1.352 ( Intel's spec max) from 1.4215. good.

Currently testing memory "alone" at defualt V, CPU+Mem with mild overvolting, than max at default voltages. I can do

I need to know the actual Defaults for NB , FSB Termination ?

btw. OCCT sometimes sees only 1 core ??? why

You probably have 'Speedstep' enabled in 'CPU Configuration' of your bios. When your cpu is not working it trottles down to the six multiplier to save energy. Not a bad idea. You can see this in the program 'CPUZ.'

@doakh I'am alredy disabled speedstep in bios, CPU-Z shows normaly 3200MHz but windows shows 2.13GHZ. It's something with new bios.

So 'Control Panel/System & Maintenance/System' does not display your stock and overclocked GHz? That is strange. Does your bios setup page the correct Ghz?

I'm still using the last official release BIOS, not sure what version that is but I have just bought a Q6600 [G0] to replace my year old E6300.

Do you think a newer BIOS would be needed?

I've always used the latest bios be it beta or not and never had a problem. So it's up to you.

The last official release bios works great on the Q6600. But, if you uses anything other than 9x multiplier, the bios will report the wrong CPU speed. And who knows what else ??? I would at least us 1219.

After a sound driver update, I am happy to say, I am now ASUS driver free.
I needed the old soundmax driver for the Superbeam Microphone. Now, the MS HD sound works with it. I have had a problem with media player letting go of a file when closing. Not now !.

May need a new install and updated to load the new driver.

PS: I do have the ATK-0110 from MS (no good way around it) but, I use non of their utilities either on my vista setup. I do use their junk on my XP setup.

Flash, all is good. I will be interested what is the change. I thought maybe they would make the Vcore setting more accurate. I have a setting of 1.4375 and I am getting 1.38 ~ 1.39. It reports that both in the bios and every utility I use. But, they probably just read the bios. My thermal is in the low 30s c.

I don't have the Wi- Fi. Should I disable that in the bios? I have an unknown USB device in the Device Manager.

That has happened to me before. I has a ASUS 975X MB with a Pentium D running at 4255 MHz. I was stuck on the first release bios.

I have tried every bios since I got this board (I think it came with the august bios) and can't get it stable for anything...

I was given a *used looking* P5B-Deluxe by ASUS as an RMA exchange for my brand new P5B-Deluxe wifi/ap version that went "no post" after about a month. (Nice of them, eh)... It took them 3 weeks to get me the replacement and pretty much ever since I got the P5B-D board, I have been battling against random reboots. I think it might have been stable for week or so, I can't remember. When it started to flip out again, I replaced the PSU, because that was the only thing I hadn't yet upgraded. I didn't want to deal with Asus and another 3 week plus wait without my main system and when I finally broke down and called them they gave me an rma# but said they didn't have any P5B boards in stock to replace mine with, and had "no idea" when they would.

So I have been trying to tweak this board into shape. Every once in a while I will get a bios and configuration that will be stable for a while, then it will become unstable again. I am on 1223 now and after it was stable for a day or so, I started getting crashes again. Often it will lose it's settings for the bios and I have to reset them. I've tried all kinds of configs in the bios. Any ideas? I have been assuming its a mobo problem, because I don't have any gear I can swap out with to troubleshoot anything else...

One thing I haven't done yet is run a memtest to make sure my memory is square.. Seems weird that it would run fine for days and then go bonkers, and then be fine again.... but i do need to rule that out i suppose...

First do memtest. If you will get errors sometimes it helps to change ram voltage. I have exact same setup as you and after a while my MB started to randomly reboot. What i did is actualy lowered the ram voltage to 2.25 from 2.45 and it helped. Make sure you runing 1:1 for testing stability, my MB is not realy stable with dividers also. And what is your oc?

Thanks for the suggestions.. I will try the ram testing and see what that tells me..

the most I've tried bumping the speed was to 288 because I dont really know what I am doing yet and i need to first bwe able to get it stable at 266 before I want to push it much.. it was stable at that 288 for a couple days at one point..

as far as the timings, I have mostly been using the auto pilot because I guess I don't know how to set them right given that when I try my own settings I can never get it to boot all the way... :shrug:

Lets say you have CL4 (CL5 5-up-up-18) DDR2 at timings of 4-4-4-12. Try 4-5-5-12 just for a test. If that does not work, try 4-5-5-18. Next try 4-5-5-18. No good yet, bump the TRFC to the largest number and then work back down once it is stable. Your memory. Your Memory should run fine at maybe 2v or 2.1v.. If you go much higher, you should have RAM cooling.

I am running 4x 2MB modules at 2.0 v

PCI express = auto
PCI clock = 33.33
spread = disabled
mem voltage = 1.85v
cpu vcore = 1.25v
FSB term - auto
nbvcore - auto
sb vcore - auto
ich = auto

timings:
Cas = 5
RAS to CAS = 5
RAS precharge = 5
RAS activate = 15
Write recovery = 6
TRFC = 42

Then tried the following and the system and thus memtest simply froze at 4% through:

cpu = 266
dram ddr2-800mhz (1:1, right?)
PCI express = auto
PCI clock = 33.33
spread = disabled
mem voltage = 1.90v
cpu vcore = 1.30v
FSB term - auto
nbvcore - auto
sb vcore - auto
ich = auto

timings:
Cas = 5
RAS to CAS = 5
RAS precharge = 5
RAS activate = 15
Write recovery = 6
TRFC = 35

Then tried some different timings per chuckbam but no luck and got tired of it all and tried a boot with these settings and then got a random reboot after a while:

cpu = 277
dram ddr2-831mhz

PCI clock = 33.33

mem voltage = 2.0v
cpu vcore = 1.325v
FSB term - auto
nbvcore - auto
sb vcore - auto

t_p....The only thing I can see in your setup that I would change is 'PCI Express Frequency' to 100 instead of auto if you are running your cpu at or near your default FSB. I do not recall anyone leaving it on auto. You only need to tweak this if you oc ~ 33% or more.

am i crazy to think that at some point, if there wasn't a problem with the board or the memory, or their taking a liking to each other, that I would stumble across some situation where they'd settle down?

DDR2 800 is NOT 1:1

DDR2 533 IS 1:1

Set memory to 533. leave everything at AUTO. Set RAM in the NB menu to AUTO. LEAVE everything at default.

Raise FSB to 300. Save, Reboot. See what happens.

What RAM and CPU are you using? Most any Intel CPU will handle 300 FSB EASY!!!! Try it.

Hi,
I have the system in my signature.
I can't get one more MHz out of my CPU without getting OCCT in RAM mode failing. I noticed the NB strap was at 400MHz, but even 401-406MHz FSB give me OCCT RAM errors. The CPU should do it, I even gave it some 1.6v shock to be sure. 407MHz FSB and above, my system will reboot on Vista loading, even at a 6x or 8x CPU multiplier or 2.3v RAM. Of course I even maxed the NB and FSB voltages.

This same scenario was with my previous Q6600 B3, exactly same FSB limits at the 1 MHz precision, but it needed more vcore compared to my G0.

I also tried many bioses. 0910, 1216 and 1221 seems to be the most stable (other revisions won't sustain my current OC under OCCT RAM)

Yep, I flashed the P5B Premium Vista Edition bios on my P5B deluxe using AFUDOS older versions. I saw someone else did it before. Well, it didn't give me one MHz more out of my FSB

Using two sticks of DDR2 didn't change anything. I also just ordered some Kingston PC2-9600 2x1Gb that will arrive next week.

Do you think I reached the FSB limit of my P5B deluxe with quadcore processors? Or maybe got a bad overclocker on my P5B deluxe?

I was reading that there is lockups with the P35. I am sure they will work that out with drivers. The P965 is supported.

I am going to get the 8350 when a 512MB and the custom cooler is available.

Have you tested one stick at a time? you could have a bad stick. I purched 2 sets of what I have now and had one bad stick.

I had tested one at a time a while back, but not since things got worse again and not with the right settings I am sure. I am doing so again at your suggestioning this morning, just booting up with one stick, and running the system through paces, with the recommended settings from the G-skill thread.. Thing is, much to my dismay, neither stick so far has been acting up when all by its lonesome... I guess I need to do memtest again one by one and see if that reveals anything..

EDIT.. OK I get errors with memtest86+ v1.70, when running them one by one in slot A1, using the recommended gskill settings, with each stick erroring at different points... I don't know how to interpret the results. Can I make any assumptions? Is there some other test I should run?

EDIT.. Don't know if this testing app is any good, but I ran it on one of my sticks and the system locked up after some time.. Trying the other stick now... http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

EDIT.. Second stick with this app, I got a ton of errors, and it didn't lock up...

I just got a p5b deluxe the other night, set up the system, installed everything, and it didn't boot. So I read up on the no beep no signal issue and heard it was the RAM. So I grabbed my patriot stick, got into bios, set my voltage to 2.2, stuck in my set of Crucial Ballistix, and then it was fine.

Today, after a bad OC attempt, I had to reset my bios to get back to stock settings. So I reset the bios, put in my Patriot RAM, and went back into bios to set the DRAM voltage back to 2.2. Guess what, the option for 2.2 is gone?! All of the other RAM voltage options are there but 2.2....

I can no longer boot my PC with my set of Crucial Ballistix ram. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version, and still no dice. It doesn't help that the 2.2v option for DRAM voltage is mysteriously missing from the dropdown menu in the BIOS, since that is the setting I used to boot with the RAM.

All I can boot the system with is my 512 stick of Patriot which runs at 1.8v, then I can go into bios and set the DRAM voltage to 1.85, 1.9, 1.95, 2.0, 2.05, 2.1, 2.15, 2.25, 2.3, 2.35, 2.4. Go figure, 2.2 is missing, and it is exactly the voltage I need for my ram.

WTF is up!? Why can't I set DRAM voltage to 2.2, why won't the mobo boot with my crucial ballistix at 2.15 or 2.25 >.<

Playing with 512 RAM sucks, I want my 2 gig set to work....

Well on the P5B the settings a 5-5-5-15-6-42-10-10-10-11

They use those setting when they optimize the bios. That probably is your problem.

You should have posted that on your first post.

I'm thinking of installing Vista 64bits and going with 4Gb of ram. I currently have installed 2gb of G.Skill HZ, but I don't want to sped the money to get 2gb of the same ram again. I was thinking of going with some Super Talent T800UX2GC4, under the impression that it will be able to run with the same timings.

System is running at 435Mhz FSB and the ram at 870 with 4-4-4-12. I don't mind going to 5-5-5-15 if that will be needed for stability.

I flashed to the bios 1223. I want to go back to 1221. I have had some system lockups since the change.

Both EZ Flash and AUDOS will not let me flash to an older bios. Any ideas? Dam ASUS, Mybe I need to call them.

I have been suspecting part of my problem has been 1223 too... I usually don't mind flashing from within windows but not when I am having frequent lockups..

I think you must have either a bad motherboard or RAM. What does the Windows Memory Test indicate. Boot up with F8 and test it.

I have only had a few lockups and one Blue Screen. It runs Prine95 just fine. But, I had non before the flash.

I did you flash back? I tried a old copy of AUDOS a New copy and EZ-Flash. Non would let me flash to an older bios.

I never had issues when using AFUDOS v2.17.

For some nasty doings, like flashing with P5B Premium Vista Edition bios, I used v2.07

But, go with 2.17, never had any issues

I'm really disperated with this MB limiting me to OC my Q6600. The FSB is damn limited to 390 on mine

That's a good point about windows memory test. I've been avoiding that one.. I am also waiting on a friend who is going to sell and ship me another p5b-d board here, hopefully this week...

Hey guys, my son's P5Bdlx was fine 24/7 for a month playing online games and folding FAH at night, until wife turn it off the other night. In the morning it wont boot, no beep, no post, monitor blank, but fans running.

Read trough this thread and think it's CPU. Switched CPU from E6400 to E6600 still no beep no post.

Changed VGA card same.

Swap RAM still same. But without RAM shouts three beep so I think the mobo is responding hence not dead?

Clear cmos same. What else I can try? Help!!

Try booting with the ASUS CD in the computer. If you have it. There is a utility on there that may let you get into the bios. Worth a shot.

This mobo is a replacement from newegg. Newegg is great for replacement from the original purchase, but replacement don't have warranty and final (no return). So this is suck if I have to go to Asus route. I will try with Asus CD as suggested. Thanks!

If your mb don't even beep, you should have guessed it, the mb is dead. You lost your money changing the CPU, if the CPU dies, the mb still will beep

Oh btw, when I pulled all the rams out (video and cpu intact), the mobo beeps 3x. So it gives a signal and is not dead???

I could be wrong, but, I thought 3 beeps was memory. Have you tried one stick at a time? Still could be the MB. ASUS has fairly good tec support. The PH is posted at Newegg on every ASUS listing.

Also EZ RMA practices.

- Base 64K memory failure: A memory failure has occurred in the first 64K of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad

1 long, 2 short
- Failure in video system: An error was encountered in the video BIOS ROM, or a horizontal retrace failure has been encountered

As you removed the RAM, it is the base 64K memory missing alert

Try removing the bios battery fo some mn, and test with one stick of RAM each time, but sounds as your mb is dieing...

1004 was fine for me for a long time. 1216 has same OC potential as 1004 for me, 1221 too, but 1223 lost my OC.

Once you update to anything 12xx and above, no way to downgrade, even using AFUDOS 2.07: you'll get a CMOS checksome error all the time + OC failure, So, be advised. In any case, if you're looking for only OC potential, give 1004 a try before upgrading above, as they won't give you more headroom

I tried your suggestions. Removed bios battery for 5 minutes (got to remove video first). While waiting for 5 mins I tested the video on another machine and works fine. Then insert battery back and video and plug the 6pin video power. Without RAM (only video, CPU and PSU) it gives me 1 long 2 short.

Then insert one stick 2GBHZ, nothing no post. Insert another stick, same nothing. Insert one stick on each slot at a time, same nothing. Can you or someone else intrepret this. thanks!

If my mb is dying or died I will call asus tomorrow monday. Thanks anyway guys!

- In bios it shows only 3008 MB.

Go into your BIOS and enable/disable the "memory remap" feature.

What you read by Microsoft is wrong. Vista 32-bit will not read 4GBs of memory, The motherboard needs you to enable the memory remap.

I am happy now ! I am back to Bios #1219.

Seeking ideas:
I've just upgraded from an E6400 (rated 2.13G) that has been running at 2.975G for some months. The replacement is a Q6600 G0 stepping that seems to hit a wall at 3.024GHz (336 x 9).

After bumping the FSB termination voltage up a notch to 1.4 Memtest passes my Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4D matched memory sticks with the CPU/memory frequency set at 350MHz (running 1:1). Prime95 (v25.5) will run 4 threads rock solid at 336MHz but all 4 cores crash out on the first test at 340MHz.

I've tried raising Vcore by up to 4 notches (it's not a temperature problem - all cores staying below 60C in Coretemp) without success. Have also tried even higher FSB termination voltage, and higher Ich but it just doesn't seem to want to know at 340MHz.

Anyone with thoughts on what to try next?

OK - Problem solved. The key was the NB voltage. I am nervous about this as there is no monitor for the NB temp and I suspect that cooking this was the failure on an earlier P5B board that I had ( that smell - you know the one - and the NB was the only component hot to touch and it was HOT). However, I bit the bullet and upped it to 1.55, and with a couple of notches on the CPU voltage to 1.375 Prime95 has now run through one cycle successfully. A few hours to go before I will be satisfied that it is stable but looking good so far at 350 x 9.

BIOS 1226 (Status Unknown) Dated 11/23/2007, released 11/30/2007

Description:
1. Fix CPU ratio will not reset after load BIOS default
2. Enable support for N/2 Ratio option

Like a couple others of the latest BIOS releases (1219, 1223), this one also stops in POST and says: Checksum Error, Overclock failed, press F1 to enter BIOS.
I deal with it by entering BIOS and loading BIOS defaults (<F5>), and then reinserting all my preferred BIOS settings. Save and Exit (<F10>).

I had the same problem, for more than 2048MB of memory, you need the Vista 64-bit, Just like XP. Your memory and your motherboard are working fine, You have an operating system limitation. You need to take Microsoft to court for misleading advertising. I was trying to read white papers for days before I went 64 bit.

I had problems with the last two bios and slowly went back to #1219. It was very painful. I was getting random problem all due to that Dam ATK0110. I find that is the first thing that gives under any stress. I gave up trying to take it off my system a long time ago.

With the Quad CPU I have, the bios posts wrong MHz, but all the utilities show the correct MHz, benchmarks are good and I am rock solid.

What is N/2 Ratio?

I agree, ASUS has done a good job keeping up with CPU support with this board. I have set up a few P35 systems and would replace my motherboard if I thought it was worth the effort. Other than, a small memory performance improvement. I think there is no real reason to upgrade till the new socket comes out and the memory controller is on the CPU. I think that is in Q4 of 2008. And, I may give it 6 more months to make that upgrade. Or, maybe I will not be able to stand it and jump in.

At this moderate overclock you should do not need 1.55 for MCH with 2Gb of ram. It runs HOT. Try 1.45v or auto. I would instead set the low end range of your memory stock voltage for 2Gb.
