after installing the intel inf update, i'd have to go into my device manager and uninstall/reinstall my usb root hubs. at first glance everything looked fine, but when i expanded out my usb root hub half of the entries had yellow exclamations, so uninstall them all then rescan for hardware changes and they come back fine. have to do them individually which sucked, but worked for me.Quote:

Am I missing something or is it just bullcrap: FSB 1333 MHz support for rev 3.3 only, I thought rev. 2 is the newest one and they released a BIOS for a rev. that will be available in 6 months or something?! Or are they talking about rev. 3.3 of upcoming CPU's?

However...i have even MORE weird bios, i saved a profile called "425x8"...this hold my various bios settings in profile.
But when i tried to alter my bios, say 266x9...Windows would not boot up, in fact nothing i tried would allow me to boot.
I could not and cannot alter bios settings from those presaved in the profile, once i reverted back to the default 425x8 profile parameters Windows booted ok.
Can anyone offer insight as to why this is happening?...why can i not alter bios settings?
Has anyone else noticed that these new bios aren't offical?, a la available on the Gigabyte website?

Yeah it's strange that it's not released on gigabyte's website. But it doesn't carry a subversion to it like we saw with the f8's, so it should be final supposedly. Might be undergoing final testing in gigabyte lab or something.
Woo I started dropping vcore and currently am at 1.408v under load with droop and so far 10 min small fft stable. Dropped vcore a total or around 0.11v or so, and coretemps dropped around 10'c. Kind of makes me want to goto 1.5v again and see where this cpu can go. But I never want to modify fsb again as long as it doesn't act up on me

I think there's too much confusion regarding pcb revision vs motherboard revision. Motherboard revisions are changes that don't get a designated note. For example, in revision 1 ds3's, the first mb revision had c1 p965 chips. Later, they became c2 p965. I think this isn't really what anyone is talking about and is just pure confusion. The revision written on the motherboard is the one that's really in question, with rev2 having different electrical components than rev1 as well as a different nic.

I flashed to F10 from the official website for DS3 1.0 and works fine. No noticeable differences, but then again I never had problems with my board. hehe

I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing these USB issues, even at default settings (bios) my USB devices freeze up, i am thinking about buying a replacement Neatgear USB dongle to see if it's the cause..maybe it's crapping out?

Which usb ports are they plugged into? There are only 2 USB 2.0 ports on the board. Try swapping to a different usb controller...
There are 10 USB 2.0 ports, four on the mobo and another six by USB headers on the mobo...i have tried moving the dongle to other ports...same thing.
I think hutch might have a point. I don't really understand the full dynamics behind how it works, but there might be something of native/nonnative or something possibly. I've been told about the 2 ports only by a lot of other people as well. It's true that all ports do give full speeds though, so I don't know what the deal is.Quote:

I can't speak for the dq6 so you'd have to use a DMM and measure for yourself, but people have measured vmch for ds3 and found that gigabyte is cheating. If you set it to normal and increase fsb, it'll automatically increase vmch for you. So when you manually define, it might actually be lower if I recall correctly.Quote:

How many of you are running F9 on the DQ6?
Richard its possible your USB ports a blow. The easiest way to check is to boot with a knoppix disk and see if your USB ports all work. If they do not most likely they got blown.
Have any of you noticed any differences with F9 yet? Or any steps backwards?
I'm running F9 fine on the DQ6, its the best so far for me. I think I have finally got the overclocking potential I need... just waiting for my pump to arrive and then I'll watercool this beast.
F10 for DS3 looks to be really nice, i lowered voltages from 1.56 to 1.49!!
All the USB ports appear to be working, i have plugged the Neatgear Rangemax http://www.netgear.co.uk/rangemax_wi...ter_wpn111.php in all four embedded USB ports.
Windows detects the dongle, i then have a four port USB backplate which is attached to two yellow USB headers on the mobo. These all appear to work.
The problem is a very inconsistent one, it'll work perfect for many hours but then suddenly data transmission will simply stop and web pages won't load, i have thought it might be my router or ISP...but once i unplug and plug back in the dongle things start working again.
I've also had times when i get an "error code 10 - this device cannot start" in Device Manager, the only way to get rid of this is to umplug and plug back in. A small number of times my Logitech MX3100 keyboard/mouse would just stop working.
It's almost as if the USB ports are switching off, like they are going into hybernation and when i want use them nothing will get them out of standby.
Tomorrow i am going to buy a new Rangemax dongle, but i do feel this is some sort of bios issue, if the ports were blown they would not work and devices would not show in Windows.
I thought it might be overclocking, but even at default it's being affected. My next option is to replace my PSU (third RMA) and then revert to F7, proces of elemination i guess, but i'd appreciate any assistance from GB tech support and see if there are any issues with the latest bios.

It sounds like a voltage regulation issue. I don't claim to know from where the USB ports get their current, but there is only so much power allocated to each part of the board. Its possible that the USB ports do not have enough power to support your dongle (that sounded bad) or overclocking the board and raising voltages elsewhere are causing your problem. Then again, it also could be just a bad board,
One thing you could try would be to declock your system back to normal and see if it shows up while clocked normally.
I finally got that second IDE drive out of my system.And wouldn t you know it. The machine seems alot more stable..... I ll keep an eye on this. Noctua to be installed on Sat..wife permitting.

Can any of you tell us what the memory dividers actually do in real life at 266, 333, 400, 433, 466 Mhz FSB
As I understand it some programs do not report the correct results, and in earlier BIOS versions the divider did not function completely normally.
I m asking for this to be placed in one post so that maybe everyone with a Gigabyte board can find it.
Please post your results and the BIOS version, motherboard, PCB version, Rev version C1, C2, and the memory that you are using to get those results.

Depending on what your settings are.... Im assuming you are trying to run your memory at 533. What is your FSB running at? And with what memory divider.
The 2 second off and back on thing has been normal since F3 I think.
If your CMOS says that you need to clear. I would say that your BIOS settings are probably off.
533 memory should probably run 133 FSB with the memory running X 4
133 X 4 = 533
You may also need to use Cntr-F1 to get into he advanced memory settings to manually set your voltage and memory CAS Tcas and Rct settings.
I don't think it's normal but I have the same issue with my DS4. I didn't manage to work it out since August 2006. I didn't send my board to RMA because system is rock stable and I have no time to wait two or three weeks to get it back. But it's really annoying. I'm not overlocker and don't OC my system but because of this I'm frequent reader of this thread ;-).Quote:

I think I have found the main reason for our cold boot problem. I hooked up a dmm to the read point for vmch.
I started out with plans this afternoon of being vdroop, vmch, and vdimm. Vdroop so I could get a more reasonable vcore at idle. Vdimm since mine was 0.1v lower than what was set. Plus, I figured if I made starting vdimm at 2.1v, it may eliminate some boot issues. Results show vdimm boost didn't help boot issues though, but it's nice to have +0.2v have it at 2.3v.
Vmch. Here's the interesting guy. It's been brought up many times before, and people have done actual reads based on different fsbs and all settings normal, +0.1, +0.2, and +0.3. I should have done this as a baseline for comparison but I didn't think to at the time. I ran out of qtips for the time being, but I need to erase the pencil for vmch anyway.
But here's what I found. I recall setting it so that base vmch was 1.35v. Then I proceeded to try and do 450fsb. I tried +0.2v setting as my preference, since I read I think a vrzone article saying they stopped seeing cold boot issues after keeping vmch at 1.55+. However, this +0.2v resulted in a setting somewhere around 1.7v. What the... Maybe the graphite heated up and become less resistive. I'll check that in a bit. I try normal and +0.3v and both send me to 1.8v vmch. Yikes. +0.1 sets me very close to my original target of 1.55 though so I figured I'd just try to keep it there.
One thing I noticed was that each time the system went for a reboot, I saw a first vmch setting of 1.45-1.49v regardless of what vmch is set to. Then it pulls it up to what the setting was. However, I haven't been able to boot 450fsb ever since I did the mod. Got it to post maybe once or twice, with insane vmch iirc. But even then it didn't boot successfully into windows.
I'll try to get rid of the graphite, and see if I can determine any characteristics of it at stock.
Perhaps if there was a way to clamp vmch at 1.55 - 1.6v, everything would be peachy? The problem is that I'm not sure how to approach this. Since with however much graphite I put on, it looks like the effective baseline vmch is being set to 1.45-1.49, which rarely do I see applied. The problem is that "normal" goes to the +0.3v equiv at the fsb's we want to be focusing on. And the problem with that comes in that there is no +0.0. The best compromise would be +0.1v. If things do work out properly, this would mean it'd always turn on at 1.55v, and once it gets ready to post it pulls it up to 1.65v. With adequate cooling, 1.65 should be ok. However, this still has the problems of normal/+0.3 sending vmch to nearly 1.9v (seems the +0.3v setting is slightly more than a 0.3v jump). On recovery posts, I believe it always forces max vmch, so there should be frequent shocks for us tweakers.
I'd imagine that clamping vmch would require soldering, beyond the pencilmods I did.
edit: Oh yeah, I nuked my windows again. Agh. I shorted out the read point for vmch with one of the legs, powering off the system. On boot up again, bios settings are retained, except time gets reset. I didn't realize this, and proceeded to try and boot windows. I was greeted with "trial period over" again. Grrr, back to safemode to backup and format once I get it up I guess
update: bleh didn't help with instability. guess the board was returned for a reason. but woohoo, got my rev2 working again :)
All i know is....1.4000V in bios is not gonna cut the mustard with rev 2.0 DQ6, i now need 1.41250V

I'm getting tired of this BIOS crap. With F7 I was at 3500mhz 500fsb with 4-4-4-12 timings at 1.475v core. Now it is just unstable with the f8 bios. I flashed back to f7 and it is acting weird. It may have been due to the fact that I oc'd it to 3700 with a 528fsb with over 1.5v. Now my cpu needs more volts to remain stable...I just haven't found stable again...any suggestions?

DS3 was out of stock at the egg for a few weeks and are now back as of Sat. The price seems to have come down ~$15 to $133. What are my chances of this new shipment being V 3.3?? The egg will not guarantee any version (of course) during picking of order.

Update- i have now RMA'd my *second* OCZ 850W PSU. I am very unhappy with this new OCZ product, the rails are very close to the top end of the ATX spec and in my experience BREAKS the spec, the rails are WAY too high on the 12V and low on the 5V.
So i have RMA'd to get the third PSU....if it turns out to be the same then i will either try for a refund or sell it and move over to another brand...
F9 bios for DQ6 2.0, no cold boot issue as yet. My OC holds at 425x8 but i need more voltage then i did with rev 1.0, USB problems are still a major issue but i do now have a new Netgear USB dongle. It appears to be working better then the old one so perhaps it was a faulty device, however i cannot acccount for why my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse has been affected also.
F9 bios would be great and quite stable, even the X-Fi problem has been fixed, but i cannot account for these bizarre USB issues...i hope GB investigate this.
It's annoying to note a new rev 3.3, does anyone have pics of the mobo?...what has been changed on the PCB?
How long are your RMAs through Gigabyte taking? I sent my DS3 to Gigabyte over a week ago and I'm wondering when they'll send a replacement. Life on an Athlon 700 file server kind of sucks :(Quote:

So with GA soon to release Ver 3.3 followed by who knows how many more revisions, I wonder if we can expect as many new bios release's for the Rev 2.0 boards that still seem a little buggy :stick: :confused:
no option to change the command rate on this mobo?
ill get higher today, my ocz ram has promos chips but it should do 900mhz at 5-5-5-15. i got it to 3.6 on 4-4-4-12 timings, i am pretty sure this chip has some more speed in it. voltage at 3.6 was 1.42. this board can move - i just wish it had a command rate option where i could run it at lower 24/7 oc's.

aftre playing a few days with a bx2 and couldnt hit even 3.8 with that board ( maybe it was that particualr board or something) i decided to go back to my DS3 HELL YEAH

Its done with F10 bios ? , cuz i cant do 4ghz with this F10 bios , flashed again with older 8i bios and back to normal, did new bios (F10) is better for you ?
yes def F10 works a lot better for me , i just wish the add vcore in between 1.6 and 1.8 that would be awesome. my mem runs better too with F10 and a lot less coldbootQuote:
