ya first round probly will not utilize those pins makes since. not gona jump on that waggon this time though since i just got a 1100T yesterday. first round im scared of since the what were the models 9600 and 9500 eeek then got a 9850 that wasnt much better.

I just find this odd that all the mobo makers are saying yes, and AMD says nope. :shrug:

Featured AM3 processors such PII X6 uses 938 of 940 AM3s connection entries (two of which were never and are not routed by default, except the cards ASUS lists in their press release). AM3 + socket has 941 connections. AM3 + CPUs, however, has 940 connections, the exact same number of AM3 socket. Hence it is suitable even reasonable physical. Just be aware that it "only" works in practice with the motherboards on ASUS list.
Important to say is that it's only those who work when they have the correct routing to the power circuitry to operate a AM3 + CPUs.
Asus has routed the extra am3 socket pin-holes on the listed models, where the other manufacturers have not.
It doesnt matter if AMD don't support it. They didn't support core unlocking on the 800 series but the motherboard manufacturers still managed to implement it ;)
Whats important is that the motherboard manufacturer will support it - And in this case Asus have made it clear they will with certain boards :clap: (and the beta bios proves they are working on it)

Its pretty much the same thing i have going with the Foxconn A79A-S ,1055T works fine, but turbo and cnq work like crap.But setting everything manually works like a charm.
AMD screwed up on this one in my books.They could just say that the official launch platform will consist of 9xx chipsets with AM3+ sockets and backwards compatibility while possible will be in the hands of mainboard manufacturers (which was anyway always the case with backwards compatibility).
Instead they went

I don't understand why AMD want kill one of the best features that they have (platform compatibility), Intel says officially that IB will be supported by SB mobos, so, if AMD goes in this way is like kill himself in the market.
My current mobo is a Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 Rev. 2.0, but the Rev. 3.0 says AM3+ but with the same 890FX and SB850 chipsets. Here are the pics.

Same chipset, so, that's no the problem for not be compatible.
If BD isn't compatible with my current mobo, I'll have to buy a new mobo soon.

Somene had posted before that there was some kind of wattage increase on the next gen chipset?
If that were the case then wouldn't the 890fx be the better anyways?
Runs cooler, uses less power, has same functionality, etc.
As for the northbridge, my bet is that its exactly same chip, just with enabled iommu which by default was off on most 890FX mainboards, and that slightly increases chipset load.
Same functionality with same process node leads me to believe that.Also, am3+ doesnt require new chipset (and im talking about proper am3+ socket mainboards, not just AM3 with a bios update)
I would be glad to be proven otherwise tho.

May be they wanted to launch Bulldozer based desktop chips earlier but there was a 990series based boards with chipset issues. manufatures, Like Asus, decided to gear up for 890 series support to keep from any further delay. After testing is finished, AMD will decide to do a suprised early launch of Zambezi CPUs...:up:

ASUS is one of the few board manufacturers that enables the use of unregistered ECC ram in it's bios. Most (maybe all) of the AMD cpu's support it, even non-Opterons. Other manufacturers just don't go to the trouble of enabling this capability in the bios.Quote:
