Please, DOS? That has nothing on commodore 64 tank battles.

I think the issue is that this does not make me roll my eyes, I actually think it looks rather good. Sure there is room for improvement, the Mechs are a little stationary and the voice acting isn't perfect, blablabla, but it somehow seems like these are things that can be fixed quite easily.
I'm also not a hardcore Mechwarrior fan, I played MW 3 and Mech Commander 2, that's it, and I still think this looks pretty good.
sweet. I was just thinking about re-installing MW4 to play again. This is on my buy list. :)
you have no idea what you're talking about... as usual...huh? i played both MW2 and MW4 extensivley and i never had the feeling that MW4 was more arcade.i wouldn't say that. once i figured out how to group weapons in MW2 and override the shutdown sequence all the rest was a walk in the park.
nothing in comparison to a real simulatur like Falcon 4. MW has been more of a semi-simulation like Wing Commander.i don't think so. MW4 already had great mouse control. your aiming is much more precise with the mouse, so using a hotas is a disadvantage really.
back when i was into MW4 i eventually dropped the hotas and played with the left hand on the WCS/Throttle and the right hand on the mouse. so much easier this way.... and you've just made my day! :ROTF:
I would say I'm quite a hardcore Mw/Btech fan, I've played just about every Mw game there is (except one of the Mw2 and Mw3 expansions), read numerous books (and still reading) etc... not played the table top game though, I hear its not too different to Warhammer 40,000 table top games which I have played before
While I can definitely see issues with what we've been shown, I'm remaining highly optimistic for the final product, I put this down to being hugely starved of Mechwarrior games. This can be a bad thing however as regardless of how good/bad it is it'll most likely still sell very well.
Yet, I'd think it would be hard to mess this game up. They have the scripts, plots, and everything else. Just add better graphics and physic and wa-la.
Sorry I used both and still loved the HOTAS better. Other games HOTAS sucked.
I mean get real here. The first Crysis Demo was very nice and the Game still sucked! Bad voice actors took NOTHING away from Half Life 2 and at least one of its add-ons. I'm a Fan and enjoyed many months playing this against the computer and on line. There is one simple fact here, not and opinion but FACT. There is no one game that can please everyone. The makers of this Game should simply remember who bought the old game, remember that they made money in a much smaller market and finally aim to please THESE SAME FOLKS. They should tell the Naysayers to visit hell. Listening to complainers ends up missing up the game for everyone. I honestly believe these folks wouldn't buy the game in any form. I'd never change or adjust a game to please folks who'd never buy it anyway.
Oh and I have an XBox360 controller for my PC:up:
to be honest i didnt think the game looked tooo bad..obviously it can be improved though i felt the battle was very slow. i grew up playing mechwarrior 2 : 31st century combat and i was only about 8 or 9 years old back then. it was fun, but i play high speed FPS's (counter strike) and the slow battle just seemed weird.
either way...i look forward to this being my first game i buy in years ;)
i don't know why everyone keeps complaining about the trailer. it's a typical urban battle just like in MW2/4.
of course it's slow. it's not like you can make a mech do the moonwalk with the limited controls you have...
I always loved these games and hope this new one will be as good or better
The graphics are great in that trailer, lets just hope the game is as good. I also prefer a slower combat instead of a twitch FPS style game.
One thig I did really enjoy about Mech was how you could customize everything and I really hope they allow that in this.
Looking forward to this one !!
Yay a new mechwarrior game!
There was a period in my life when all I would play was mechwarrior and terra nova. Hopefully that will see a revival as well.
I hope they take an approach like the makers of MW:LL are. I'd like to see it be a Sim/RTS-like title similar to BF 2142, or ARMA II which allows you to use multiple vehicles as well as issue commands to units, etc. It would be like Mech Commander and Mech Warrior merging. This is Mech Warrior: Living Legend's intention and I believe this is the appropriate evolution of Mechwarrior gameplay. Hopefully it's early enough in the planning and production of this game to implement this if they haven't thought of it yet.
I like the slow deliberate combat. Makes it more strategy based instead of running around in circles picking up ammo and weapons and shooting endlessly. As long as this game is similar to the MW games of the past, even MW4 if we have to, it will be better than if its anything like mechassault.
It says something of the franchise if the fans are trying to find ways of making a 15 year old game run on 4 generations later operating systems.
+1
I just got MW4 running on Vista x64 after using Windows 2000 compatibility mode and manually setting the resolution to 1024x768 with Catalyst Control Center. Unfortunately I get graphical corruption in MW3 and Mechcommander 2 :(. I think the ATI drivers have something to do with that. They don't like games more than 4 or 5 years old it seems.
I am installing virtual PC 2007 when I get home and then I found a copy of win98 + serial that I will install in that console and hopefully successfully install MW3. I may have to just make due with mw4 though since it seems to have the most luck on vista. I just dont want to play at 1024 x 768. I guess I could drag the 15" LCD out of the closet and at least be native.
ooh sweet gaming memories :D

Looks a awesome game.
I just started to play MW4:Mercenaries a few days ago. I got the entire MW4 series in a game bundle at Fry's Electronics a couple of years ago, but had compatibility problems back then and set the game aside. I managed to get the damn thing working on Vista x64 so I'm happy as can be about that.
I actually like MW4 a lot! I heard, back in the day, that people didn't like the limited way the mechs could be configured, compared to MW2. In MW2 you could put anything anywhere, like having a PPC in the leg, an LRM20 in the head, etc. MW4s mechlab style is actually the way the books describe the way it should be. There are supposed to be standardized ports and hardpoints that certain sizes and classes of weapons can be attached. MW4 is spot on when it comes to this. I think MW3 was similar but it's been a long time since I've played it.
My point is, our beloved MW2 was actually blatantly WRONG when it came to mech customization/configuration. I have to agree that that's what made the game so awesome back in the day, but M$ rightfully brought the franchise back to its' Battletech roots. The few complaints I have about MW4 are about the interface and naming of mech variants. The interface is absolutely horrendous when navigating the mechlab and free market. They simply got that part of the game wrong.
I agree, I really loved the Mw4 mech load out system, but otherwise it was a DX7 game released in a period when DX9 was around for a while, actual gameplay wasn't great either.
yeah, that interpretation of "omni-mechs" was a bit over the top. there was no need to put anything important into the arms (which were the first parts to loose in battle), there were just so many hardpoints all over the cassis.
what are you talking about? mw4 was released in 2000 and Mercenaries came in 2002. dx9 was not released until december 2002.
There hasnt been a MW game I havn't liked. I love the franchise, despite the flaws that each game has.
MW2:Mercs is actually what got me into online gaming in the first place over MercNet on DOS Dialup. Fun times with the lag shooting!
I think its too early to judge by a trailer what the game will be like. Have some faith :)
I dont hate MW4, I just started playing it again. I agree on the load outs I guess. I think I should be able to put a Laser in my left or right arm if that is where lasers are put. I cant believe you cant make a mech with 2 laser arms instead of a laser arm and missile arm. I don't think any weapons should be in the legs or head of course. What I don't like is how fast the mech moves. How fast it turns. The only movement that seems somewhat realistic is the speed from forward to reverse. The damage interaction sucks. Its either a working part, or a broken lost part. No systems damage. I would really really like to see more of that in the new one. I would like longer missions with maybe a longer span between mission objectives. As it sits now, you blast your way through 10mechs, then get hit 30seconds later with another wave. There is really no way to play some of the missions with light mechs. If I get some damage to my systems, I would like to prioritize which systems I sacrifice and which I keep. So, I sacrifice LAMS for radar or something. Or turn LAMS on in a fight and sacrifice radar during the battle till I get a break, then switch back. Also, between mission objectives, maybe I could salvage an arm from another mech that I took down to replace my arm. Though maybe this would be a skill that would need to be earned in some way. MW4 menus are very bad. I wish I could see all my weapons in the free market, not just the ones that are unequipped on a mech. I have to keep going back to my mech lab and then back to the free market to see what I want to buy.
I found out I need a new joystick though. My secondary fire buttons are all starting to die. I have some groups mapped to button 5 and 6 :-) 2 and 3 are getting sketchy, the trigger (1) and 4 are the only easy to get to fully functioning buttons.
I found an old compaq in my basement. I think I am going to dust it off and install MW3 and MW2 on it. Just to see if my memory is glorifying those games. Maybe MW4 is the best, but I remember a let down from 3 to 4. We will see.
