Overclocking, sorry for not being specific about the problems I faced when the last PCI slot was used.Quote:

but i wanted to ask a few of you, if you can post your results escpecially with TCCDs on this board and which nb-week you have....

My thoughts would be this. Would do no harm to have a look, but if the goo covers said numbers? think you see the problem :DQuote:

Never a right answer here, as we all have our own ideas.
I just gonna waste some old AS2 on mine. (or even the stuff that comes with some coolers)
LoL i see what you mean, well hopefully it doesnt.
Anyways im off to double check, by the way what is your week?
How do you remove the NB, having troubles.
Is it plastic clips or is it screwed in?
I dunno yet.Quote:

My experience with these coolers comes from Nforce2 days.
They only had a blob of very strange sticky stuff.
extreme ?
Remove Mobo, and pinch in the things so they release.Quote:

The NB is held on by 2 split pins. I removed mine before I installed the mobo.Quote:

Well i had no luck removing the NB without removing the board, i put some force into it and nothing. Doesnt matter ill do it tomorrow when i have more light.Quote:

I cant get it stable no matter what past 220HTT, first i thought its the ram so i ran memtest86+ at 250Mhz 2.5-3-3-7 1T 32 passes on test 1-7 and over 250 passes on test 5
I know its not the cpu as i managed 2.5 HTT250*4HT 10x with ease on 1.55vcore 5:6 divider.
Im not sure basically im down to: XLs having compatibilty issues with Neo2 or dimm 2 or maybe the board is bad as i managed with using 1 stick of ram 2.5Ghz HTT250*4HT 1.55vcore 2.85vdimm 1:1 2.5-3-3-7 1T.
Im thinking of getting new Neo2, well ill check tomorrow by removing the NB maybe that will explain it. Im also getting some OCZ 3700 Gold Rev3 so ill see how they go.
Any suggestions why im having this problems?
Do you have AGP set to 67 to lock the pci? the neo2 does way better on samsung tccd based ram than the XL's.
Sure do have it set to 67. Yeah but its strange how i can memtest without any errors at 250Mhz and cant even do 230Mhz in winxp.Quote:

Im puzzled...
1. NB sink is usually held on w/2 'squeeze' pins. Must use needlenose pliers or forceps (locking tweezers) from the BACK of the board- squeeze together and push though board.
2. Remove the 'lack' of stuff w/ rubbing alcohol, then airgun to remove dust and blow stuff from UNDER the chip (YES there is a slight gap, since these are mounted using Ball grid methods.)
3. Silver ANYTHING is an NO-NO! :bsod: Possible conductive, staining, and capacitance issues (LEAVE EVIDENCE AND VOIDS WARRANTY).
Use Artic alumina or Ceramique, avoids above problems.
4. If you decide to lap, use 220 -> 400 sandpaper: more is not relevant here due to issue listed in (5). May help some though, especially to remove anodizing (insulator) surface contacting chip.
5. Use the razor blade method :slash: (no not that one) to get a relatively even distribution of compound on the chip since (NF2/3) tops resemble dinner plates more than a flat surface. Check that you have enough by mounting w/o pushing pins back through MB, then add small drop xtra in the middle and do final mounting and pin push-through.
Should notice that NB is much warmer now if done badly b4. Shows that the NB HSF is doing it's job - dissapating heat.
End of class, certificates are to be found in you MB boxen. :D

This board is really giving me a headache
I installed my new system yesterday, and all worked for a little while. It seemed very slow booting, and sometimes it did not want to proceed from the first screen, Platinum, requiring a restart. It usuallt booted on a second attempt.
I upgraded the bios to modded 1.37. After this it wont recognise any USB devices (keyboard and mouse attached).
I now tried to do a reinstall after flashing back to 1.36 bios. I attached my floppy, press F6 when XP setup is initialized, but when I am requested to put in my sata floppydisk, the pc can't read the disk. Seems like either my floppy is dead (seems to work ok according to lights and noice) or the MB can't communicate with it. (similar to usb devices).
Questions:
1. What is wrong with the USB?
2. How can I install sata drivers for XP without floppy?
3 Is the board dead?
My ram is OCZ PC 3200 512MB EL Dual CH Platinum rev.2 (only one stick of 512mb installed now), CPU is Winchester 3200+, Samsung 1614C sata disk.
Pls help!
Drivers installed are nVidia 5.10
See my post here about sata, and note what I said about not using drivers.
Have you got the USB bracket with the D-bracket thing plugged in, if you have try unplugging it (both USB and diagnostic thing) and just use the USB ports beneath the PS2.
Hi
Strange problem here! Earlier today i benched a bit with 3,65V Vdimm and it works fine
so far. Then i rebooted and take the 3,3V back to standard an
put down the the sys. to 10 x 260 166 divider for ram. Then i surfed
a bit on inet and after 5 min. i get an Bluescreen. Booted again and everytime before
Win is ready i get that bluescreen or an reboot! I've tested all different
Timings / dividers / HTT / all on standard, but no way to go into win...
With one stick in slot one i have no problems. Memtest works fine with both
Sticks over 5 passes @ dualchannel using slot 1&2, but no chance to boot win.
If i will boot with only one stick in Slots 2 or 4 the sys wont start, just beeping.
Its that normal?
Question is : Which part took damage? The motherboard or the cpu/memcontroller?
I'm really confused ...
I am planing on buying an Neo2 with an Winchester, BUT those problems with BH-5 i don't like to read about? I will use 2x512Meg TwinMOS Winbond BH-5 (think it is different steppings). I asume that I will get an farley new Ne2, so atleast 1.36 BIOS will be there? What do you guys think, will it work? I think I will take the chanse!
10 X 260 on Sata?
Any chance your hard disc got corrupted?
You might try searching over here for TwinMOS.Quote:

There is a thread on there with ram that does / doesn't work on the Neo 2 :(
BTW, the 1.36 BIOS is only beta.
No problem with only one Stick at those Speeds and i use normal PATAQuote:

Im sure the Board or the cpu is damaged, but i dunno.
the same from me ;)
first it worked great.....benching, short-memtest: no problem!
but after a few "working"-moments the board shows, that it doesn't like that high overclocking....trust me, you aren't the only person who has these kind of problems ;)
your mobo and cpu are working normal, nothing should be damaged ;)
(take a look to your NB-reversion....)
I have two Boards here. The one that i have not installed have an
0411A2 Taiwan Northbridge. Later i will tell u the week of the other
Northbridge. But that sucks, the Board must run with 200 MHz 1T !!
Cant understand that ..
Yes, I've been lookin' there, didn't find so much of great value.Quote:

Sorry my fault.
Interesting... Don't know what I have on NB yet as I didn't check it before putting it into my prommy.... (well maybe sometime later... tired of seal string jobs after jobs recently with my winchester venture).
Funny thing is, Dual channel tops around 270FSB stable. Single Channel tops around ... who knows... past 300FSB now. Does that mean it is typical board? Or are there people going well over 270FSB on dual channel 1gb setup? Wondering if it is my 3700EB or board which is not quite clear yet. Now that I figured out I can get higher FSB on single memory, time to check to see how high my 3500+ will go again... was FSB limited :P
Why dont u use an divider for the Memory, to top out ur cpu?
No prob here to go above 300MHz HTT.
hehe :DQuote:

but on the Neo2 i get thousands of errors with that stick @ 300MHz.....
so, it HAS to be a nb/motherboard-issue
What about a VDD mod for the lousey Northbridge?? My last 8rda needed a VR to fix the problem. Maybe a similar problem with the better NB having a superior chipset voltage.
hmm...dunno.....try it and tell us :D ;)Quote:

I wonder how to mod vdd too ? please someone can say word !!
I've had this board + FX-55 for a little over a week now, and am still trying to take in all this information. This is my very first AMD system, and as such a lot of this is new to me. Just wondering if this sounds about right to you all.
BIOS 1.36 Beta
Voltage: 1.55 + 3.3% by VID which gives me 1.58-1.60 actual according to MBM, running 10 x 275 (2750mhz)
Memory: Gskill TCCD @ 2.75v running at 275HTT 2.5-3-3-7-1T
AGP Voltage for 6800GT OC @ 1.65v
My temps read around 37C Idle, max i've seen is 57C (Thermaltake Venus 12)
I'm using a PCP&C 510 Deluxe in this system
Most of the other settings i've just been doing what everyone else has used. Just wondering if those voltages look about right for what i'm running. Anything less than that on volts and it reboots, this seems stable right now. I heard 1.65v is the most you want to go on an A64 (air)?
On a side note, my rails vary A LOT depending on which proggy i use. I'm seeing numbers as low as 11.4 on the 12+ rail, and for having the PSU i have, can i trust these readings? I am gonna test it with a multimeter as soon as i can, but all my rails look like crap on the sensors for this board.
What is the advantage by increasing the AGP voltage?
Does it improve your o/c?
Just on my graphics card. And when i had it lower before i did the 1.4v mod on my 6800 GT, it would reboot. I guess i can lower it down, but i've always run 1.6 on my 9800's.Quote:

This sub zero cold boot issue is driving me insane. :(

My crappy NB (before the magic week) stopping at 270FSB dual channel while going past 300FSB on single channel is not stopping me anymore ;)

I decided to give this board another try....I posted earlier of problems with my first one, now returned with dead usb ports, floppy controller and more
So far everything has gone smoothly. Updated the bios to 1.30, put in my second OCZ stick. Time has now come to tweak this thing, so I have many questions for you:
1. How do I access the hidden options in the bios? I tried in the main window, pressing shift+F2 + Alt+F3 but no luck.
2. AGP is set to 67, is this enough to activate the pci-lock? I don't want to start pushing untill I'm sure it's activated.
3. Ram settings:
How do I go about clocking? I need an explenation of how fsb, HT freq and timings are related. I'm hoping to press towards 270mhz, at least when I get my watercooling sorted.
If someone has a list of how the different options are set in bios it would be a great help.
I guess that will be all for now :)
You only see diferences with shift+f2 alt+f3 in the sub-menus and not in the main menu... Not like gigabyte boards...
So, do shift+f2 and then alt+f3 and you can see differences, for example, in the "cell" menu. Try to do this inside this menu, besides the main menu, to see the change in the disponible options...
Hello guys , i have what i think is a problem , i have a msi k8n neo2 with the vio with one a normal enermex giving 3.28 volts to the bh5 .
With the dual channel activated i can´t go over 225/230 , in single channel i can´t pass 255.
Is there anything i must do to gain oc with the dual channel ?
My cpu can reach 2700 on ar for bench and i liked to bench 1:1 and super pi and so on .
I´m buying a ocz next week .
Cumps guys [[]]
Edit :
A friend sayd me that can be the mems controller in the cpu that is wasted , is that possible ?
cumps
hi guys, well i'll try to explain my problem (my english is not so good)
i've got a winchester3000+ (watercooled) and a MSI K8N Neo2 and a pair of 512MB DDR500 ADATA
it's Prime95 estable working at 277x9 3:2 (mems@185Mhz) (1T)
and working at 250x9 1:1 (1T)
but i don't know why, i can't make it stable working at 277x9 5:4 (mems@~230, remember that they work perfectly at 250) (1T)
do you know guys what is my problem?
thx & regards
i dont think so, but to make sure you should test the same memory stick on both memory channels = both memory controllers, to see if one of them is ocing worse.Quote:

it could be a bios problem with the divider... but i think the problem is just that you cant oc the memory and the fsb to the max.
its the same when overclocking a videocard, if you oc the gopu you reach a certain speed, if you then oc the memory you reach a certain speed, but you will never be able to run the gpu and the memory at the same speed together, you will always have to slow down the gpu and memory both a bit if you oc both.
its the same for cpus, if you can reach a certain oc and a certain max fsb it doesnt mean you can reach that max cpu oc together with the max fsb you reached with a different multiplier.
a better psu and maybe cooling the mosfets could help you :)
if you have a good psu you can mod it and pump up the rails a little :D
hi
thank you very much for your answer, but, you don't think that is too many diference 260 1:1 (stable) and 277 5:4 (230DDR) (unstable) ? :(

Heres a link to most of the beta BIOS's for the K8n NEO2. And I think a DOS Floppy flasher is included on that site. If not grab an official MSI BIOS and it'll have the proper DOS flasher.

here for some entertainment value: this is my air set up til i get it in my mach1. didnt want to stuff it in a case til i got the bugs all worked out....
thx perc,
There is a thread here on ways to flash the BIOS on the NEO 2.
Some nice little tricks in it, and even tho I am a DOS lover, the flash in windows seems OK.
All the BIOS are @ http://www.lejabeach.com/MSIK8N/k8nneo2.html except the one the OnepageBook modded which you can get if you PM him.
I've only flashed with DOS so I cant help ya their. Hope you guys get your boards going your way:) I was an early adopter of the Neo2, and it's been the best 939 I've had.
OK here is another trick question re: BIOS flashing. I have a left over BIOS saviour that I was using on the DFI NF2 board. Could I use Winflash and flash the saviour with the MSI BIOS and be able to use it? I am not sure if the BIOS that in the Neo2 right now supports Winnies, so trying to figure out a possible solution.
What do you guys think would that work?
ok i just used winflash to flash the bios and it worked BUT my question is why does it still read 9/22/04? i flashed to the 137 modded bios what gives??
hmmm? well on the boot up sceen it shows it being the 1.37 bios so i gues the 9/22/04 date is just the version bios that was modded and renamed 1.37? anyways now my power button works AND i can use 2 sticks of memory in 1T mode sooooooooo looks like the 1.37 modded bios has helped me out big time. now lets oc this puppy :)
thx perc.
You should have no problems with a winnie if you have the mem in single channel mode even with an early BIOS.Quote:

Think if you have to force flash it, it will be the floppy way.
See my post here on force flash.
Going to depend what's on it atm, and what board you flash it in.
I just took the flash utility apart, and it does support /F

i fixed my problem with a cmos clear.. but now when i install any OS and boot from HD i get a blank screen :/ i can install any windows just fine.. but when it boots to HD it get a blank screen
Well I've only got a XP90 heatsink with a 92mm YS-Tech fan but the temps at full load @2.5Ghz @1.55v is around >60C!!!Quote:

ok im having some issues here. seems that trying to set it to 210 results in a no go? i would think that 210 would go without having to touch any voltage settings? maybe im running into memory conflicts already? im using adata pc4000 since the damm things have run good in every rig ive owened so far... just seems funny that 210 being almost a given and it not wanting to work that its more like a memory conflict then an actualy oc limitation?? i have a feeling if i yank one out and go to single channle this would not happen. thing is i want dual channel so i gues the fun begins "time to start trying differnt memory"... all i have right now is EB3500 and crosair 3200 bh-5 and these dammed pc4000 adata sticks.... any ideas guys?
thx perc,
