My best guess is that if I can hit 4350mhz I can make app 100,000PPD..
That's just a educated guess.
Printable View
100,000PPD on what? WCG I would think roughly 15k w/OC.
So how is the parts search going Dave? You need to pump up that e-peener with some wattages. :D
That works with regular DDR3 ECC memory?
if this board could possible mae any hardcore OC, imagine having a dual headed cascade like unrockstar is making and the 10 kw psu hipro5 is building..
Great work Dave :D
whats a good cinebench 11.5 score ??
ive got a stock 4870 on my quad socket tyan, and it only does 9.58 points in 64bit. is that good?
also, does anyone know why i cant run th grid on my tyans? they all have win server 03R2 64 bit, but when i got o attach it, it says my comp is not supported ????
So this weekend is the MOARgasm? I'm excited for you. That's a once in a lifetime "first kid on the block" experience there. God I love those.
A long roadtrip would do me good...just need to sell my ass for gas :D Nobody rides for free :p:
People will need to buy MB when all these new 32nm CPUs hits the marked next week. Why isn't this MB released yet? Seams like a bad launch-planning for otherwise a great product that could sell like hot bread in coming weeks.
I got really surprised to find that EVGA E760 and E762 doesn't support these X56xx B0's either. Has EVGA's planners missed the news about 32nm-rash in next week?
he hasnt even turned the thing on and the thread is already at 13 pages...
like said before its gonna be a long thread.
WE EXPECT A BUILD LOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reads, cringes..
Guys, parts are just hitting here. In fact the case arrived today, a day early.
My buddy at FedEx is into PC's, saw the company name and mine and got it here a day early..
I'd post pics but it's still in the box and every time I look I need to change my shorts.. A thing of beauty..
Stop playin' around! We want pics! :D
EVGA is supporting the destop 6 cores in their boards BUT I hear there's a simple wire mod to support the xeon flavor 6 cores.
Gigabyte and Asus are supporting the xeon flavor in new bios.
The key to remember is that this is a pre release board.
According to the best I've found out release is scheduled for the ned of march, beginning of April.
Nothing to show yet..patience, just a few more days..
The day the Intel NDA lifts on the westmere's I'll be posting all with numbers.
Not milking my friend.
The reality is I showed the pics as I figured the guys would want to see them.
Never in a million years thought there would be over 14,000+ views on this thread in 10 days.. Really, amazed me.
Then time to secure parts and get them here.
Remember where most of the PC parts come from: California and I'm in New Hampshire..
Thats 7 days to me by UPS ground which is what most of them use.
Doing my best and beleive me I want this sucker up and running myself..
I am also limited by the expiration of the Intel NDA on westmere's..
No signed NDA here but not going to piss at them and publish benches before that ends..
Not too much longer now and honestly, the timing works for me as I need that time for the parts to arrive, build, test, bench, write and post..:D
Will two of these work?
Xeon E5506
I have killed my 920 (got it when i7 first came out) and Striker II Extreme so it is time for an upgrade. I can get two of these and this MB for a doable price. Already have 2 HX1000's and 2 4870X2's on a great watercooling setup.
wow... just ... wow... That board is amazing mate.. I hope by summer I can build my dream rig... this board DEFINETALY had my interest... can't wait to see your numbers!
Any word on a release date and approx. price?
Dave, how do you think Magny-Cours will compare to your Westmere?
Oh this is such a loaded question. My gut feeling is if I can get the speed I expect on air then a magny-cours at maybe 3400-3600mhz would be damned close. Now thats 24 cores vs 12 but still a dualie so it's fair in my book..:D
One of the best purchaese I ever made was my Asus 23.6" LCD monitor..
Yes, bought it before the Z7S-WS mess or it wouldn't be here but it is excellent.
Bob...that would be in a different league. Like GP2 car vs F1.
edit: No, more like http://www.deere.com/servlet/ProdCatProduct?tM=FR&pNbr=8225RRW vs http://www.deere.com/servlet/ProdCat...R&pNbr=9630TRW
Both great pieces of machienery, but for different jobs ;)
And IIRC s7eph3n had his MC at 3Ghz :) And that was early silicon, so if someone (hint-hint) would make a MC board thats enthusiast oriented.... well. MM would have a fight hed like :)
I think this should sum it up http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/8...goingcrazy.gif
movieman how much time before nda drops on those secretive cpu you have????
Only quoted for relevancy LOL! Commenting on AMD on my part will be PM-ed.
I had to slow some of Computer purchases because I needed to do some repairs to the house and one of the Vehicles. I looking at least a small Bonus and I still needed to upgrade the wife's computer for her birthday on April the 4th.
Ok Ok but what about a case for this monster and not some giant cube either. I have been looking for a case to fit this it is hard as hell to find anything that would house this card with current specs
"Motherboard is 381mm width by 345mm length"
can anyone help with this?
so XEON's go OCing at last..?
isn't that what everybody were looking for..?
though..
is this a wise decision by intel to approve..?..:hm:
500$ MB & 2x5520 gives you easily a dual E5540,X5550 or X5570, maybe just with a lesser QPI...
or..
500+770 = ~300+~2900(X5570)...
3200 -> 1270... lol :confused:
:).
Will it fit in the Big Pinnacle on the new tray?
All the parts are here, case is assembled, board and PSU are in..
One 59..oops vid card is here, another and a 2nd monster PSU arriving tomorrow just to make sure we got enough to power this beast..
It will be a busy weekend but should be a fun one..
The fastest I've ever personally brought a machine up to is my Yorkie at 4418.
Looking to try and break that number on air.
If the two QPI units perform like the single QPI ones I have seen overclocked, I think that there is a good chance you will be able to get it stable. Though I would like to see you put it under water, and how well these chips take high voltage.
I am hoping to see what parts you went with.
Well... 4400+ probably not on air. My X5660's are very similar, and I have as of yet been unable to stabilize them at 4,4Ghz. 4,3 is fine at ~1,36V Vcore, anything higher requires a huge voltage boost that I am not willing to give. Might be the uncore running too high, but still - B step Westmere-EPs won't easily hit 4,5+ for truly stable 24/7 operation. At least when using "safe" voltages.
I know that it is near the limit for air cooled, but depending on his luck with the chips...

sweet !
A thing of beauty! Any chance you could publish cinebench results when you've got the beast up and running?
When will we get to see what CPU cooler you selected?
2x 5970....OMG. Somethings about to happen. Something awesome. An old guy is gonna get medieval on 3D Mark :D :sofa:
Holy SNAP! What kind of apartment building is that you're mounting this thing in?!?
Also ... are those really vid cards or the exhaust ports off the back of a Cylon raider?
Funny thing, the 5970, not what you call a short vid card. But not blocking any sata ports this time. They look so small :D
This is techo pron!:toast:
Really nice how all the colors match
yea, i do like how all the colors match.
Hey MM, that really is unfair, your making me drool.... just you wait though, i think ive got the answer to your puny dual socket...
now i just need to find a tyan M4985 dau board to go with my S4985. we'll see how you do against 32 cores of opti godness mmhhwwaahhhhh
that would be 4*4*2*2.32=74.24ghz :)
but all joking aside, that thing looks absolutly sweet
Dave that thing is a Monster !!! :ROTF::ROTF::clap::shocked::up:
And maybe two V10's for the CPUs? At least the box is black and red as well:p:
damn that looks sweet!
Tax return just got into the account, now the waiting game for availability on hardware..........
looking great dave!
No one has any info on a release date for this??
Great... the 16th is smack in the middle of my finals week... And I'll be spending most of it updating things from Dave...
And pokemon comes out on the 15th...
So much for studying... :rofl::rofl::rofl:
Thanks for the pics Dave. That looks awesome.
omg. i really want that board!!
I gotta say I've never done a build like this before.
I build machines and keep extras of just about everything on hand but this build has made me smile today.
Little things, like running out of the coarse screws to mount the fans and grills..
There's 26 120mm openings in this case..Thats 104 of those screws..
I think I managed to find 45 in the house!
Then looking and seeing TWO-1200W PSU's attached and having my mind say:
"Is this really necessary?":ROTF:
Then last, stepping back and asking myself if I'm dreaming working with all this state of the art hardware..
The scary part is all the people who put their trust in you.
You get Alan Shepards famous prayer running through your head:
" Please Lord don't let me screw up!"
What fans are you using? I would think with some of the more powerful ones you would need a 3rd PSU just for fans...
God that's hot.
Now I will have to peek at this thread everyday.
For how long? I don't know.:ROTF:
Well being mains powered it puts no load on the PSU or motherboard, they move a MAL of air, AND if you do it right they run pretty damn quiet ... mounting might be tricky though.
0o0o0o so your planning a little thermalright tower town any plans for the chipset or pwm's?
You would think, I used to have 1190+ CFM coming through the front of my MM case with 9 133cfm Ultra Kaze's :)
back in a while. more to do..
If Movieman got the Extended Ascension (I it as an Ascension, but I can not tell if it is Extended) he could mount one (or rather place) on each side for a push pull configuration.
You may want to go for 120x38mm fans. Should be quieter for the same amount of air moved. I while ago I went through and looked at all of the 120mm Delta fan manufacturer data, and what it made clear was that thicker is better.
Pretty looking rig Dave. You must be beaming.
Looking like a pretty wicked rig.
Bob
It's all assembled..
Just got to wire it up tomorrow and see what the baitch will do!
Dude... I've spent last half hour reading all 16 pages and you still didn't make it work! Come oooooon :))))))))
I'd do a good old over kill for that case, one mo-ra2 rad to cases front panel and one to the top :p:
That would be some kooling power :D
But before this goes off topic too much: :slobber::slobber::slobber::slobber::slobber:
Ran into a little glitch at 2am, had to mount HS "sideways", then slept like the dead and last night here and now huge rain storm..
BUT the good news is the sleep gave me a solution that will get it the way I want it. Should fire it up in a few hours after I suck down some coffee and get human.:D
I read about the storm in newspapers, again 0,5 mil without electricity? Hows your generator doing? :)
......searches ebay for 40kva generator to power this ftl machine
