Praz they are good numbers with those Hyper X what phenom and you running? What do you guys think the best for everyday use is? I have tried a lot of memory in this AMD rig and it is hard pressed to fine any memory that runs as good as the OCZ (ANIMAL) memory in my MSI GD-70. But the problem is they are hard to fine so I would like to get something as a very good back up just in case.. Thanks guy..
The processor is 555BE. I'm sure there will some disagreement with this but my take for 24/7 memory is anything that will run 1333 CAS6 or 1600CAS7. Anything faster is nice but not really noticeable from a user experience in day to day use.Quote:

I reccomend usable performance timings as always.
I can post up 2000mhz ram at gross timings but I won't ;)
If board can do gross timings high but can't run tight it's useless.
For that matter if it can't 32m high it's not really usable as well.
Got it! I was just using that as an example of why I want to get a different motherboard instead of using the MSI GD70. It wouldn't do even post anywhere near that high, even with crappy timings like that, with the same ram.Quote:

I honestly don't know what other benefits the 890 Chipset has other that what I've stated. I know that AMD will be making some major improvement in the next year but is this really one of them?

If you don't mind me asking, which BIOS rev. is that you're using, and where can I get it? I just got a GD70 with what appears to have BIOS rev 1.7, and I suspect that there are newer/better BIOS revisions available.Quote:

Get what you pay for.......At 1600 c9 they hardly belong in a thread titled "BEST RAM FOR AMD" however, more like Budget ram for AMD.
I have those sticks Flank3r and i've struggled to get 8-7-8-22 at 1600.. and that is with 1,8v. Indeed you "Get what you pay for" so my advice is to get something better.

perhaps anyone sees something that is set to 'tight' besides the 7-6-7-18-24-1T thingy? as mentioned, tried up to 7-6-7-22-34 with 1.7V but 32M didnt pass then either.
1.7v to much.........not needed for those speeds play with memtest and you will note more voltage = errors.
Shouldn't need any volts till 1720+ also if thats gigabyte use the white slots.

Thijs, something must be off. You should be able to pull off at least 1700 6-6-6 at 1.65V with these sticks. Set primair timings to 6-6-6-18 trc 24 and trfc 120ns and leave the rest at auto, that should do.

I read a review of them and they do really well for being low voltage sticks. Basically was able to get them up to 1946MHz 6-9-6-24 1.55V. Pretty solid if you ask me.

Those might look good on Intel, they're pretty useless on AMD. Running trcd @ 9 on AMD is a sin.
i've gotted 836 7-6-7-18-24 1T @ 1.65V so far.
Also got 824 mhz 6-6-5-15-11.
but i cannot boot higher then 830 / 840 mhz :/

The first link is to the C8D's and the second link is to the C8's, but I am not sure if there is a big difference.
Fiddling with the singlestage for a bit now, 900mhz 7-6-7-18-24-1T is obviously 1M stable, but not 32M. tried 2T aswell, and 90 or 110 Rfct , but that didnt help either. ill check if a bit more voltage helps.
FXTA-UD5 isnt to bad so far, booted up at 280HTT :)

Well, finally I managed to run my GTX2's at 1800 CL6. It was impossible with Crosshair III, now with M4A89GTD everything is ok.
Currently testing "on stand" with the box cooler and some helping 120mm fans, so I can't push the cpu really hard.

Yes, 6-6-5-17-22 1T was possible, too. This was a test only for the "rated" specs of the RAM, because I couldn't achieve it with Crosshair III. Otherwise it can do much more, no doubt :)

I'd like to get some better ram for benching and use this OCZ in a 24/7 machine cause 1333 6-6-6 is perfect for that. I'm trying to avoid having to pay $250+ for Corsair. I saw alot of interesting kids @ cebit/ces but I haven't seen any of them hit the market yet.

Someone tested the first kit, they are not for AMD, unfortunatelly. I was wondering about them and the Dominators, because of the price and was hoping to tighten the timings, but when I saw that test I went for the Dominators.

gskill pis are all powerchip, run high freq but with high latencies so in the end performance isn't good

Nope, this is my first C3, it's 0945DPAW. I think it's a high leakage chip, because I hardly make 4.1GHz Prime stable on water or it takes a big bump in voltage, but it scales nicely with more of it :) It has max stable NB of around 3050MHz, but since I was using the box cooler, I couldn't push it further. Wonder what it can do on ln2, lol. The 1001 chip is waiting on the shelf, it was running fine at 4.2 before I pull it off, but I didn't have the chance to test it good. We'll see if it scales with voltage, or not.
What was the problem with Crosshair III and 1800mhz frequency? I love your memory, I'm thinking about switching from 1866C7 to GTX2, I can hardly wait for chew's stage 3
Instant memtest errors, I couldn't get it stable over 1700, no matter what I do - timings, voltage...It seems that something is very wrong with my particular board.
Additionally it's overvolting with at least 0.06V. I will get rid of it very soon. Nothing is overheating, the memory didn't run at desired speeds even with everything other on default with increased voltages. As you can see, they are running flawlessly on the other board with high NB and default voltage at 1800 CL6 :)

Thanks for the headsup on the bios'. I will have to give some of the earlier versions a try , such as the one that you are currently using. I'm playing catch-up to you guys with my R+D preparing to bench 3D again, much different setup than what I was used to on the old DFI NF4 boards indeed. Only been at it a couple of weeks:)
Just pulled a 224,000 plus on Aquamark @ only 4184 MHZ with a pair of Asus 5870's stock on air. I'm only on a Corsair H50 for now until I get my test bench equipped and set up. I'm within 2000 points of you in 2005 without much tweaking yet.(31K vs 33K).
My 965BE might be a dud as far as the CPU-NB is concerned, as on air I cannot get it over 2890Mhz without lockup issues or failure to boot. I understand they will scale under cold, which I'll be doing in the future with the modded Prommy, but I had hoped for at least 3000Mhz for useable bandwidth development on my current cooling. I have a killer watercooling setup I'll move to before the Prommy, so getting to and over 3000Mhz+ NB was certainly my hopes before going cold.

Good to see you back in benching and nice to see you chose to go AMD, most ppl go Intel nowadays but with the upcoming Thuban some ppl might change their minds. ;)
It's been a long time since i ran Aquamark, my believe is that it runs best under windows XP and since i'm on windows 7 i haven't given it much attention. After i reached my goal of 300K on my E8600 i haven't benched it again.
05 on the other hand is a nice bench for AMD/ATI but it's mostly about CPU power and a bit about memory/timings. Pretty sure you will slaugther my 33K score soon. :D
My 965BE C3 has a very weak CPU-NB too, the 955BE C3 i have now benches 3D at 3GHz but the cores don't clock as good as the cores of my 965. :(

With everyone clamoring Epilida over BBSE, you would think this was a BH5 vs TCCD thread from back in the day. TCCD clocked darn well on low volts compared to the BH5 and really made more since for the casual OCer. Speaking of the amateur OCer, does anyone here know of some lower priced 2x2gb kits that will not break the bank, but let you experiment from 1333 up to 1600 or 1800 with decent timings and volts (cas6 or 7 at 1333 and cas8 around 1800) and fit under the fans of most backward facing air coolers out there? It seems awful dam hard to find any RAM made for AMD much less RAM that will do advertised timings on AMD. I see the OCZ AMD BE RAM, but i have been burned by OCZ lately in DDR3 builds that i have done for customers (web surfing and word and games that IGP's tear em up). I know the platinum's that i have gotten have been bad and doing 2-3 RMA's to get a decent batch that failed soon after, i went with some Geil sticks at Cas6. Works like a champ in my Mom's computer and they were very well priced, though only 2x1gb. Unless Thuban manages to magically makes the higher speed DDR3 worth it, i dont see why a some nice timings at 1600 wouldnt be the thing to get. It is so hard to find decent reviews for RAM on AMD setups these days.

I am new to this forum but thought I would reply to this thread with my 8Gb 1800Mhz CAS7 on 790FX-GD70. Below are images on stats and some benchmarks(This is not same as in my sig as this was only a test. My sig is what I use for 24/7). Somehow SuperPI doesn't recognize 8Gb ram. "Real memory" and "Available real memory" shows -1 for me no matter what ram I use at 8Gb. I tried a few brands but all where same except if I only used 4Gb then it showed correctly. Wonder why?

I got myself Gskill Eco but I had hard times with 1333 divider and 8gb (maybe it is famous 1333 bug?.. so I had to run like Htt300 to get normal stock speed for gs.kill (1600-1700) with 1066 divider lol :ROTF: I have tried raise htt with 1333 divider but I was able reach is only htt 220.
Another problem is that I run it at volt 1.6 for mem. No lower volt option is available.

Socratus, 890fx / x6 rig? i would suggest the eco's but if you are going 890fx/x6 i would hold out a little to see some results, 2000mhz might start to become better option

If you can only get 2600Mhz NB then there might be a slight bottleneck if you are running 1600-1800Mhz ram but it doesn't mean it won't be 24/7 stable in Prime95 blend test.
You can look at my reply to this thread a bit above and see that I am running there 8Gb of 1800Mhz only on 790FX not even 890FX. Mine is example of a very good IMC though I only ran Prime95 for couple of hours as I didn't have more time then. I hope you get lucky and get a good CPU. I cannot come up with anything else. All i can say is good luck :)

All runs were done 3 times, and the average posted. Single drops to a single timing arent expected to gain much, but from the 7-8-7-20 I started with, to the 6-7-6-18 I ended with, there was a 9 second drop in Spi 32m.Quote:

2600NB dropped 1m pi times on 6-7-6-18 by .4 seconds. Guess with DDR3 there is more of a difference then. Thanks for pointing that out.

I believe MNH-E Hyper is what you want, however I don't think MGH-E Hyper is half bad. I don't really remember.
