all you have to do is download the bios, and the flash tool (unzip em both of course), shove em both on a flash drive, boot up from the zip drive and type in that command line

just stay with ur pro, it doesnt make an ounce of difference if u flast it or not. Just flashed back to pro bios and actually feel smoother...
Now I'm getting the "Bad command" error. I type it like this ATIFLASH.EXE -f -p 0 ATI290~1.BIN
I am stable up to 830/950 so far will keep testing.
Good luck Merlot!
Will the pro work in crossfire with a 2900xt?
just ran it 1680x1050 with 2xaa for about 2 hours, ran like a charm at 830/900 memory can easily take 999, i'll try more core later, i had to reinstall ati tool to get over 900 memory and i had to leave for a festival
My sweet spot w stock cooling and voltage seems to be 825. Still testing mem speeds tho not gonna go higher than 999 even if I could due to timings.
Man, I'm not complaining!
Clock speeds in Riva Tuner and Sys Tool etc always show a bit lower than whats set. I guess just offset?

Does that look right for a bootable USB flash key? CCC doesn't acknowledge my Pro as being a valid card, so I need to make it an XT.
The TechPowerUp guide told me to place all those files on that (it was previously a U3 drive), but everyone just talks about only putting two files in.
Looks good. It doesn't matter what files are in as long as it's..
- Bootable
- Has ATIFlash & the BIOS file on it
Thanks. I'll try this tomorrow morning. Then I can have my dual monitors back. :D
Is anyone else unable to force Anti-Aliasing from CCC? I have to use the game settings or AA won't be used at all. I like the wide-tent best, but can't get it to work when I try to force it...I've tried this in four different games, same problem in all of them.
I'm using the 10/11/07 7.10 drivers (Option 1 package).
I swapped my 320MB 8800GTS to sapphire 2900Pro and got almost 800marks more in 06. GTS was watercooled and voltmodded. Most importantly all af my games works, unlike with 8800GTS.

Thanks, I get the core and memory frequency to 901 / 2394 with stock voltage.
The default stock voltage of my card is 1.20v. I think this is some kind of bonus from ATI:clap:
I try to increase OC of my card a little bit more with more voltage but it looks like this is the max of my HD2900Pro under water:rolleyes:
i put today a EK Waterblock on my Sapphire HD 2900Pro and now run it 938 / 972 benchstable @ 1.25v vGPU.
(with aircooling max 874 core clock and only for one run :D ).
with stock voltage (1.20v) can i bench 918Mhz!
i try later more :)

"i put today a EK Waterblock on my Sapphire HD 2900Pro"
any picture from your setup?
I planned to buy the same block for my 2900pro 1gig.
hey guys
how do guys think about
512mb vs 1gb versjon hd2900pro in crossfire playing on a 30" dell lcd
do you think there will be any fps cuts with 512mb cards vs 1gb cards?
ok got two 2900pro with 512mb because there are 10day wait for 1gb editon her hehe.
chri$ch you could take your memory way higher than that, why don't you shove it at 999?
and what case do you have.. cuz i see your mobo is upside down?
atitool artefact scan shows over 875Mhz failures...
Its an Lian Li PC-101B....
is clocking these the same as any other GPU, right? just spam the clocks up untill ati tool arties? any quirks I should know about before mine arrives?
Hmm, what sould I do? Shoud I take it or stay with my curent 8800GTS 320Mb? I already tested one 2900Pro card and it scored me 14870 points on 3DMark06 @ 887/2034 :)
Maybe wait for next gen ATI chips that will be released soon?
Will be there any benefit if I flash my Pro 1GB with XT bios, provided I've allready reached OC of 911 / 2466.
Did a 3Dmark06 run with both bioses. Difference (in favor of the PRO) was less than 1%.
Looks like the xtbios upped the VDDC to 2.20V. It's the only difference I've seen so far.

Sapphire, 512MB.
Shees, I thought these absolutely illogical beliefs have long gone...
FYI: 1920x1200x(32/8)= 9,216,000 byte / 1024 = 9MB total video memory.
Start doing crazy amount of post-processing and you might can reach a few hundred megs...
PS: only case when I can see 1GB used is some 3D or compositing software - which is irrelevant to display resolution, especially desktop 2D resolution.
First, you won't use higher than 4x AA in 1920 'cause it doesn't really make any apparent difference at this high resolution (assuming you are not displaying on a 10 feet projector) - rule of thumb says the lower the resolution the more AA you need.
Second no chance you'll take up 1GB - if I'm not mistaking baseline 1920x1200 8x SSAA means 72MB memory footprint; you have to combine with something else but I can't see any chance to hit 1GB with pp... you need an awful lot of textures etc to fill up that giant memory. :)
This thread shows over 512MB VRAM used in-game:

Admittedly, my own hasn't gone above 280 yet at 1920x1200, but I've only played tf2, ep2 and ut3 since the card arrived 5 days ago. Will be keeping an eye on it.
UPDATE: Just hit 521 on a 5 minute Oblivion test outdoor, everything maxed except int and ext shadows at half, no AA or Antistropic (wow looks incredible but hit the mid to low 30s in battle; continue tweaking)
UPDATE2: Hit 680.7 after 45 mins of playing w shadows further down, 2xAA Narrow-Tent/8x Antistropic
UPDATE3: 864.25 new record Oblivion. Bring on Crysis!
Guys I have a request...
Can somebody provide me with BIOS which sets vgpu to 1.2V at default? It must come from 512MB card, brand is of no matter for me!
Thanks in advance!
ya.. i've found no advantage on this 2900xt bios... can someone show me where to get the pro bios.. and how to flash it back to pro?
Hello,
I want to ask a dumb question... does the Sapphire XT BIOS work for all Pros or must the BIOS be from the same vendor as the card?
If so, could someone hook me up with a Powercolor XT BIOS? :)
Thanks.
Will upload a Sapphire PRO /512MB bios to Techpowerup to morrow evning.
btw, the XT-bios (Techpowerup) gave me 1.20V.
You find it at Techpowerup - 'vgabios' or something like that (it's a database).
ah..sorry.
I used the Sapphire 2900 xt 512mb bios (there is only one).
hey guys, which voltage is safe for 24/7? (def. 1.20v)
I show two, one ATI, one Sapphire.
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/i...ace=&memSize=0
I'm pretty certain you're the first with a 512 to report a voltage boost after flash...
EDIT: Oops the ATI is for a 1GB
ATITool is not good, everey time if you set the clockspeed it set def. Voltage too :(
i do a vmod and use now 1.25v def. (2D @ 0.90v)
http://www.abload.de/img/dscf58058sc.jpg
Not sure if you guys noticed but my guide was down for a bit. All fixed now, and probably a bit easier as well :)
I wouldn't be so certain ;)
Besides I just asked for a BIOS from card running @1.2V I simply want to compare binary files and try some other things. Also few selected overclockers have access to OCed BIOSes with higher voltages and frequencies, so I would strongly suggest that vGPU will change with proper BIOS! ;)
BTW nice MOD! Very clean and simple!
PS. My card can't work properly @0.9V/512MHz :(
Try this Bios -> Download
This is from my Sapphire HD2900Pro 512MB, def.Voltage is 1.20v
My Card work with 0.9v @ 300Mhz (2D profile with ATITool)
So I got the HIS today. So far my results have been kinda crappy. not sure if its my settings or because i'm running on Vista. In 3dmark 06 i got 8429 stock. I attemped to overclock the card in vista and i just couldn't get the clocks to change. 3d mark scores were identical after each clock increase.
So i flashed to the XT bios, vista picks it up no problem and gpu z is showing an XT. I run 3dMark06 again, this time i get 8424.
I don't get it. Is it a Vista issue or i have some settings that are screwed up.
my specs:
Xeon 3060@3.5
P5b dlx
his 2900pro @ Xt bios
corsair 620hx
Anybody have any ideas?
EDIT: Its almost like the card isn't switching to 3d clocks.
Thanks
Allright well this is OT but I just hit 865 vram use in Oblivion...hardly definitive of anything...just sayin...
UPDATE: Yeah, surprising. Only 2xAA Narrow-Tent/8x Antistropic too. Though the only other setting not maxed was int and ext shadows (at half) I do have all the high-res texture mods and a bunch of content-adding mods like Martigens so there's always a helluva lot going on in the world/on screen at any given time, but still. And hot damn it looks unbelievable!
Hi guys, sorry, i dont have this card but i have one small Q about it ;)
im in search for good performing card, but with low power envelope...
is it possible to flash this card, or set it through software, to set some ultra-brutal-low 2D Vcore and freq, and high Vcore and freq for 3D??
ooh, and i forgot, whats the hole spacing around core on these cards? i plan wc-ing it if i buy it
anyway, thanx for every answer
Hole spacing is approx 72mm, measured diagonally. I think thats the same as the 1x00 cards. My Maze 4 fitted right in.
Be adviced - the shim around the core is slightly higher then the core it self.
Yesterday i installed mine , Sapphire 2900 pro 512mb <- stock cool 30%@fan from riva tuner. [asus p5b deluxe 0711 bios , c2d 6600 , 2X1g d9gmh , vista ultimate 64 , 7.10 catalysts] ,
Didnt try to overclock yet , just hit from riva tuner 840c@1000ddr3 and playing 1-2 hours css & ut3 without problems , Very good card with no problems at all with the cats.
Today ill search it to find her limits with the stock cool
edit. The stock cool is very good too , at 25% is totaly silenced , & at 30-35% is just a quiet aircool ,

Does anyone know if this card is expected to be more or less powerful than the 2950 we are expecting next month?
I'm very tempted to pick one of these up, but I'm not sure if I should wait just a few more weeks for the next
mid-rangers.
2950 will probably be more powerfull then PRO and XT i guess.
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/9481/54313gr3.gif
As you can see the 512bit bus is not really effective, and on high memory speeds you cant see performance improve. An 256bit bus will probably about the same performance as the 512bit bus, but will be much cheaper to produce. If the final specs of the 2950 will be 825core, 2400mhz mem, then i'm sure the 2950 will be more powerfull.
But here , we are not talking for midrange card , 2900 pros , are the same with 2900xts with different name just for marketing reasons ,
Amd sold the cards with very low core frequency just to not the cards hit the xt's , But as we see all the pros can reach the xt's freqs and beyond .
Plus we dont know yet 100% the 2950 pro price , and specs.
Damn that value card like this had to come from the 9500@9700 pro ages.
[i think you sould go 4 it. :) ]
Great thread guys!
A couple of questions if anyone could help.
If I bought an XT(cheap 2nd hand) would I be able to add a pro and flash it to xt and use them in crossifre?
Also does the bios from say a pro sapphire card have to be flashed with an XT sapphire? or could two different manufacturer cards be used in xfire aslong as they are both XT bios's?
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated guys.
You could flash a Sapphire Pro with a Club 3D XT BIOS, or BBA ATi BIOS, it really doesn't matter. As long as it's an XT w/matching amount of RAM :)
Cheers Nick.
So would a stock XT work with a flashed pro->XT in xfire?
I ask coz if it does I may well trade in my GTX :D
I figured out my problem. it was the drivers. I reinstalled 7.9 and the clocks are changing now. I got 11020 in 3dmark 06
with 800/914 at stock volts
I get 11540
I'll be getting my second card today. :D
i ned vmod to gpu ? foto/an GUIDE plz

I just changed my order . Instead of the 1gb version (which really is hard to get your hands on apparently) , i just went for the 512mb version . I will be getting it next week .
on a side note : are there any people here who removed the stock heatsink and went for the Thermalright HR-03/R600 cooler setup ? I want to know how much impact it has on temps .
Like would it be able to handle a small voltmod when it has a 120mm blowing over it .
Measurement inside of the shim is approx 32 by 32 mm. You need to find a block with contact area thats no wider than that. No knowledge on the the 8800 blocks, so I don't know.
On a side note: How does Chri$ch get his vddc to stick? Hardmod?
regards
r.-
you can do a mod or set first the clockspeed and than the voltage via ATITool. ;)
my card is modded...
http://www.abload.de/img/dscf58058sc.jpg
Yeah, I'll try push it some more tonight. i'm only at 800mhz at the moment. I'am getting a second card today, waiting for the UPS man to show up.
I'll have some x-fire results up on a p5b dlx. curious to see how well it'll do regardless of the x16 and x4 on the second slot.
Yea right , but gtos released too close with the 8XXX series not from the begining of 7900 season :D ;)

This is FRUSTRATING. I'm using the ATI BIOS you posted on the site (1GB version) but I always get the "Bad command error".
Are these the files I should have?
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...4/Untitled.jpg
You're supposed to use ATIFlash, not WINFLASH ;)
http://nickfire.com/Atiflash343.zip
Put that on. Boot off the thumbdrive. You do this process in DOS, not windows. Follow my guide closely next time
Na. RivaTuner works but afaik it won't change volts.
LOL :p:
Happens to everyone don't worry. ;)
Now it's saying that it can't find the 2900XT BIOS, the rest of the command is fine except for the 2900xt. I'm supposed to type it how it's in the flash drive, correct? I type it exactly how it's in the screenshot.
