Could somebody with a P5K Deluxe please measure the distance between those two screw holes? (The ones marked in red)
p5k does seem great.I would love to see someone with ES sample of e6750/e6850 pu on it and clock the hell out of it on phase or dice.I'm really intereste d in how the OCing preformance would rise with 1333 strap proc and mobo.
Go to Form Factors... This will give you all of the standard mobo mount dimensions. files are pdf I believe.
anyone try 4x 1GB DIMMs with 1T Command Rate?
Thanks OldGuy.
I noticed the drop between vcore set and vcore read in hardware monitor is substantial on this board. I don't understand why asus can't get this closer by now.
Anyone seen a guide for all the new voltage adjustment settings in the P5K bios yet? I'm not really sure what alot of them do.
Any memset ver that works with the p5K dlx?
Evga undervolts quite a bit as well, up to .05. This board seems to be about .02~.03 but actual under load droop seems quite good so I don't mind...
Can one of you gents that still has a functional board (yes, It appears I have killed mine) do a quick everest bandwidth test at 1T then at 2T? Maybe a quick SP 1M comparison as well?
Can anyone tell me why in cpuz or any other monitoring program, my cpu multiplier and corresponding cpu mhz switch back and forth from 6x to 8x (set at 8x in bios) for no apparent reason, almost like speed step is on, but all that crap is turned off in bios and there isn't even a intel speedstep entry in the 0311 bios or am I crazy???
If I run wcpuclk it shows 4311.xxx the entire time in real time. The .xx's are constantly changing but the 4311 stays the same. With cpuz it switches from 3233 to 4311 back and forth. Crystal cpuid realtime clock switches back and forth too. So does Everest 4. What the heck???
Does anyone know if the EK-Mosfet Asus 1 coolers will fit this motherboard , thanks
nevermind about the bios check, it only shows when cpuratio control is at auto, and C1E support is why the multi keeps switching. duh . . .
Eva is this board worth buying over the original striker board for quad ?
I couldn't find the Sunon 60mm KD1206PTV1 listed on any site here in the US. Even if I could I'm not sure how I would attach it to the NB heatsink as it measures about 35x35mm and my motherboard is in a case.
I've had bad luck with my Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500. I've isolated my problem to one module that won't pass Memtest+86 v1.70 at DDR2-1067. The other stick ran fine for over 5 hours.
While I was testing I checked the NB temperature and it got as high as 51c. While running Orthos my load MB temperature has got as high as 48c. I need to find some kind of solution.
I flashed my BIOS to 0311 and it was almost the same harrowing experience as when I tried 0307. I again got the bad checksum when I booted. This time I cleared the CMOS as per manual, F1 to the BIOS, loaded my defaults and booted. I flashed the 0311 BIOS again as I noticed several setting messed up. That must have done the trick as it is now booting properly.
Get a fan on the RAM and/or somewhere that gets airflow under the board. My Prime95 blend mobo temps went from 52C to 32C as measured by Asus PC Probe. That was crazy. The board is out of the case right now and the fan gets air on both the ram and under the board so I'm not sure which one contributes more.
It's not called Speed Step in the bios.
Try--> C1E Suppport: Disabled
Yes, where did you get 411?
I am running 304, and just dl'd 311 !
Major problem with my P5K deluxe.
I'm running an E6600 @ 3.6ghz using 1.3625V (1.33V in Windows)
RAM @ 1200mhz 2.25V Crucial Tracer 1000mhz
If I leave the Asus probe open, every 5 to 10 minutes I get the "alarm sound" and the Vcore shows as 1.7 or 1.65 V. I stop the alarm and the Vcore reads normal again.
What the hell is going on?
Bios 311 BTW (I don't know about the previous bios. never had PCProbe open for a long time)
I don't know about every 5 to 10 minutes but I got this alarm sound a few times before I realized it was Vcore dropping to zero. I'm sure that if Vcore actually dropped to zero I'd have more problems than an alarm. It has to be PC Probe II.:D This was with 0304.
OMFG guy's I love this board.
The P5B dlx wasn't able to take my mem higher then 610mhz, right now i'm @ 684mhz without any mods (2,5v bios) on the P5K dlx.
bios 0311 solved a lot of problems, like wrong cpu-z readings :)
I just updated the PC Probe, hopefully the alarm won't be back:(
Yeah, this board is awesome. My last 975X board wouldn't go past 445 FSB, and this one can do 550 easily (6X multiplier E6600)
Right now running 9X400 RAM 600mhz! (1200mhz)
What did u guys do to cool this mobo since it is getting pretty hot?
Well all four sata drives recognized but in raid 0 xp keeps getting stop errors!
It installs fine in ide mode but in raid mode it reboots randomly.
Could this be a bios issue or should I rma my board before my 15 days is up?
Anyone else running raid 0 with xp pro?
Well i have 4 disks. Two in raid0 and two with data.
With bios 0307 one of the data disks simply disappeared...the system was very slow and after starting vista boot dvd the mouse blocks and nothing move.
If i turn that disk off, i can format and everything runs fine...
Now with 0311 the disks are all recognized every time, but when i enter Vista after some time it blocks the mouse and everything.
I think the problem its being addressed and just like bingo said with 04xx this problem its gonna end.
well I only have till the 30th to rma so I hope the bios update is soon or.......:( running in ide mode now....
I also use a CM Stacker (Original).
For the NB, I put a 60mm fan on top of the 8800GTX, connected to a fan controller so that it isn't too lound (2400 RPM Vs 4000 RPM)
@ 550 FSB, Idle, Asus Probe reports 34c for the NB
For the RAM and motherboard all together, I use the Stacker CrossFlow Fan which blows air towards the entire system
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/orion23/UNO.jpg
Thats Funny I have a Stacker 810, this Mobo, a E6600, a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and Crucial BallistiX Tracer!
We are Computer Buddies!
Oh and is that fan just siting on top of the 8800 lose?

looks like something for notebooks in improve performance. not sure why its included on a desktop chipset. probably included since the upcoming mobile set is based on the P35.
Still looking for some info on the issue I described in an earlier post. Orthos Small FFTs is running fine but when I have apps like CPU-Z, Asus AI Suite, CoreTemp, ect the apps have a tendency to cause an error and crash at times while I'm running Orthos with them open. What's going on? Do I need more voltage somewhere? Is it just not stable or could this be something to do with XP 64-bit? I'm guessing it's not completely stable or something but why isn't Orthos resulting in an error if apps crash. Everything seems to run fine though when not under Orthos load though.
Also, does anyone have any info on the two voltage settings CPU Voltage Reference and North Bridge Voltage Reference? How do those two settings function and anyone tested them?
I have had this too - I have found that it is an early warning sign that Orthos/Prime won't make it through the night.
As you note, it does not happen when just running the apps - so this is instability caused by the heat/load of Prime95, which stresses the system more way than everyday apps.
Which poses the question - you machine might very well be stable for everyday tasks but you can't prove it!
On these marginal overclocks I can run systool's stability test, and memtest for 12 hours, but the much hotter Orthos/Prime95, it will crash/fail/reboot within a few hours. This could be from heat, or from power delivery problems.
So what is stable? For my godbox, I run a q6600 at a conservative 3456Mhz, which has passed everything I can throw at it, including 48 hour Prime95 Blend. For my renderslaves, I have run them overnight at 3600Mhz running my 3D rendering program just fine, although I know they are not close to prime95 stable.
Q6600/X3220 HEAT AND POWER
At my standard 3456MHz @ 1.5250v bios (damper on)
Running Orthos 8K = 360 watts, 79C Coretemp
Running 3D renderer = 302 watts, 64C Coretemp
idle = 174watts, 44C Coretemp
At my not-P95-stable 3600MHz @ 1.6000v bios (damper on)
Running Orthos 8K = 408 watts, 85C ct
Running 3D renderer = 346 watts, 73C ct
idle = 195 watts, 46C ct
At stock 2400MHz:
Running Orthos 8K = 178 watts, 48 ct
idle = 114 watts, 36 ct
So you can see at the high end that there could be a 50-60 watt difference between everyday apps and Prime95.
And also I have yet to have anything over 3500MHz be Prime95 stable on the P5K.
Notes: all temps at 21.5C ambient, Ultra-120 Extreme, with two undervolted Scythe SFF21F fans in a push -pull config.
I think mine is stable:)
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2456/p5k520wl1.jpg
I can get 3600Mhz stable in Orthos but I'm trying for 3700Mhz or higher now and as soon as I start pushing towards 3700Mhz I'm having trouble getting sustained stability in Orthos for several hours even with voltage increases. Apps that I have opened started crashing after a period of time with Orthos running and usually I end up with a system crash and reboot after a couple of hours or more.
Yup, it's funny, but that is what we are seeing, apps crashing earlier than Orthos!
Quadcore OC is very different to Core Duo. I rarely see a "fail" in Prime95 or Orthos. It either DrWatsons in a crash, or reboots the whole machine.
What v BIOS are you at for 3600?, and what cooling?
I just flashed to the latest 0311 BIOS that was released today. I have a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe 120mm high speed on it and 2x120mm in the blowholes above the heatsink, 1 rear 120mm, and a 120mm blowing against the RAM and NB itself. Temps seem pretty good.
I'm sitting at a little over 3700Mhz at the moment and had Orthos Small FFTs running for the last few hours and it just now crashed and rebooted itself. Never failed Orthos. CPU-Z and CoreTemp both crashed earlier. vCore is set at around 1.4875v I believe. I seem to be stable at 3600Mhz with 1.45v. Less then that has led to a crash and reboot after a few hours.
Dude, I feel your pain. I have exactly the same problem on XP Pro as you and it did it's best to waste half my day yesterday. I was getting blue screen reboots, pauses occasionally too of up to 40 seconds where nothing would respond on the machine, iastor errors in the system event log, no fun at all. I had the 4 drives running in slots 1,2,3,4 and a dvd drive in 5. I changed all 4 drive cables and swapped them to slots 1,2,5,6 and had the dvd in 4. Booted back up as expected, made zero difference to the stability. I ran hdtune etc to try and stress the array and it would last less than 30 seconds before pausing but would then unpause and continue to run briefly again. I eventually got a read error on one of the runs, the intel raid manager flagged up an error on one of the drives and I rebooted.
Drive now flagged as having a problem. I reinstalled with just a 3 drive stripe, leaving the apparantly 'problem' drive as a single drive so that I could run tests on it. The WD diagnostics ran the full suite and it passed everything without error. I have used both the 0304 bios and the 0311 bios, stock clocks and a mild 3Ghz oc on a Q6600. No dice. These same 4 drives ran as a quad stripe flawlessly in both a P5WDH and a P5W64.
Don't take this the wrong way but I am glad that someone else seems to have the same issue that I have.
It appears there is a hardware problem as many people are having issues with functionality of the sata ports. My board is going back today RMA because I can't get ports 1-4 to recognize/detect a drive when connected to them. I did a 22hour cmos clear and things began to come around but after getting the OS installed and all drivers and updates taken care of it began happening again where I had to go back to sata ports 5/6 to do anything and then I got the final error that there was no OS installed. I contaced ASUS first and they indicated it is hardware related. They believe the controller is bad.
I hope not in my case as I chopped the heatsink/heatpipe assemblies and bonded them on to the mosfets due to the board warping even when using a 775 retention bracket, leaving big old gaps between the heatsinks and the mosfets, making them totally pointless. No warranty for me! :D
is 1.425v sounding right to get 3.2/400FSB stable for a e6420? tried lower voltage but wasnt stable. i just primed it 8 hrs solid.
cpu temp doesnt go above 45c, but NB temp tops about 48c...dunno if i should grab that Asus fan that goes on the cooling fins.
that sounds right for the week 40's for the e6420's. is voltage damper on? what are actual load volts when you set that high?
yeah, volt damper is on. Asus probe reports 1.4v idle and 1.38 lowest (1.39 most of the time) under 100% load.

What kind of ram speeds do we see with 4gb/4slot populated? I note from the above that it won't do 1T with all 4 but still interested to see how other performance holds up.
:)
Is there Anyone here who got their RAID 0 running without probs in this board?
http://www.trackchat.com.au/media/da...tumbleweed.jpg It's gone too quiet for my liking ;).
Try set DRAM Static Read Control: Auto. In my case i gain about 200 in memory bandwidth in Sandra.
I have 4x1Gb and seems stable.
470fsb ; 1:1 ; 4-4-4-12
In Sandra i get 81xx/82xx...lost about 100 to 2x1gb at same settings...
BTW i notice that the ram performs way much better using 1:1 that with multipliers.
If you test, you have better results with 425(850mhz) 1:1 that 375(900mhz) 5:6 for example.
Here are my tests in Sandra with 2x1gb ram:
CPU at 3375 with memory at 900mhz 4-4-4-12 (375 ; 5:6) - sandra 70xx/71xx
CPU at 3400 with memory at 850mhz 4-4-4-12 (425 ; 1:1) - sandra 74xx/75xx
CPU at 3150 with memory at 900mhz 4-4-4-12 (450 ; 1:1) - sandra 77xx/78xx
Yes, I'd cut my wrists before using Windows to flash a bios.:D I'm hoping that this problem is just going from 0304 to (0307 or 0311) and the next bios won't be such a pain.
By the way, I found a 50x10mm fan in my junk box so I put it on the NB using some SuperMount tape that I bought from RadioShack for $1.98. My idle MB temps dropped from 44c to 36c-37c. I think this SuperMount tape might work with a 60mm fan with better cfm.
Right, well I have been weak and bought a sata controller card as I have no intention of binning this mobo for unstable raid performance, due to how easily it overclocks, the sheer amoung of effort to get it out and all the WC gear off it again and the fact that I already have a weakness for 3ware cards. I will have a 9650SE-4LPML here tomorrow.
i've used the Asus update utility ever since my ol P4C800-E and have never run into a problem. I just run stock settings when im going to flash. i just used it to go to 0311 and it worked like a charm.
---EDIT---
btw, anyone know where i can get one of those Asus NB adapter fans?
hi guys,
I've just token this mobo. What can I use to monitor vcore, speed, temp, fan etc etc?
thanks in advantage.:)
Asusprobe and coretemp 0.94 (I have tried 0.95 on 2 different machine running xp and quad core chips and it just reboots them!)
Ah yes, I have everest too, but I mainly use that for testing ram speeds when tweaking.
I prefer to use it over the stuff they usually supply on the CD. I double check temps against coretemp and away I go. Lavalys is pretty quick about keeping up with the latest chipsets...if it aint recognized it generates a report you can submit. Tells me everything I need to know without loading up a bunch of different apps. Plus I paid for it :D
how does this board perform with ballistix 6400/8500 ddr2 2x1gb stuff?
I am using it with the Ballistix 5300 2x1gb kit and currently run it at 8000(1000Mhz) spec with 4,4,4,12 timings and 2.3v, 24 pass memtest stable. It does go higher too but I am happy with that.
my crucial 8500 like high 5-5-5-15 but not tight 4-4-4-x but haven't tried 0311 bios yet

Well the stupid thing primed for about 8 hours at 3.7 with 1.5v without incident and then decided it was time to crash and reboot lol.
Today I was running some tests with ai gear, ai suite, orthos and cpu-z.
Opened a web page while orthos was running, when it gave an error I closed everything and I found a window labelled " I AM SERVICE !!! " with 4 button to view cpu frequncy ,cpu voltage, fan and anotherone I can't remember.
What is that ? A service mode for AI gear?
lol I AM ZIDDEY !!!
Can anyone tell me what chipset waterblocks are available for the Asus PK5 ?
Welcome to the Asus spyware club, or whatever that crud is. You will notice something called aacenter.exe running each boot. It's not in msconfig or services either. Anyway I found that if I open up the windows "tasks" it is scheduled to run everyday. Delete it there, and delete the entries of aacenter.exe folders in c:\program files\asus\ *** and it's done. Also good idea to search for it in the regitsry and delete all those entries as well. It's part of the asus acpi monitoring or some such. maybe puiggybacked on probe or suite? Whatever, out with it!!!
I have raid0 problems to. no go, get bluescreen and restart. Send a request to asus yesterday, no answer yet. I was rma my hardreive but they found no errors so it must be the ich9r chip that have some issues. hope it can be fixed with bios upd. if not i be pissed.
Yey, well that was a waste of time........... Got the card today and updated to the latest firmware. Installed in the black pci-e slot. Plugged all 4 drives into it, fired up and went into the bios to set the intel controller back to IDE with just the dvd plugged in 1. saved changes and rebooted. Got a blank screen after the bios loaded, pressed reset button and got unsupported 3ware card, consult your pc bios people basically. Yey. pulled all power to the machine and then booted from cold. got in to the 3ware bios and created a 3 drive array, missing out the drive the intel controller flagged, just in case, as it didn't need a reboot after this it loaded the xp setup. Driver installed and I had my partitions to choose. Went to format it and either using quick or normal format I got cannot format errors, the disk may be damaged.
So, I had a board that overclocked brilliantly but crapped out left, right and centre with quad RAID, threw £230 at it and got a board that can't run a common raid controller properly and even when using official drivers cannot run XP setup. I tested this card at work in an altos server that I used to update the firmware, it had ZERO problems and could format partitions just fine.
The overclocking abilities of this board are excellent, but I really, really, really don't like it at all now.
^^ oh man! that sucks.....
It gets better. The 3ware flagged that 4th drive too as failing but guess what? The WDC utilities are still saying it is fine. It even did what I call a 'double take' startup, where it powers up and start spinning then sort of stutters and then continues to spinup as normal.
I have another machine here with 2 more WD2500KS drives, I am going to stick one in instead of the iffy one, get XP up and running again and throw as many HDtune, Hdtach, scandisk and defrag runs through the ICH9R 4 drive stripe as it can handle. If it still falls flat on it's face then I will confidently rule out the drives as not being an issue. It will be off to ebay for the 3ware card sadly as I don't have a use for it, well on this board at least :(.
Let us know how it goes. I am going to try flashing to the original bios and install my array.......its my last hope
Is it really worth it to even bother setting up a RAID0 array on two 80 gig drives? The benefits of RAID0 to begin with are pretty limited and minute in everyday performance. You don't start seeing the benefits of RAID0 until you start working with transferring large files. I wouldn't even fool with RAID unless I was doing a RAID5 array for the mirroring + performance.
