All I know is it has ucode updates more than 1104 I don't know.
So initially I thought this was due to overclocking, but now I'm running the system at stock everything and it's still having issues:
Sytem Details--
Asus P5b Deluxe (1101 bios)
E6600
4gb Corsair Cas4 6400 memory
2x150GB raptors
The system runs stable after being stress-tested for 24hours+, and this is the only problem with it.
The problem has happened both when directly connecting to my cable modem and when going through a WRT54g/Netgear switch. It does not happen on any other computers that are in our network.
Brief description of the problem:
Basically, when I'm using Firefox, certain pages don't seem to load properly. They'll load 1/2 way, or will not load the CSS but will load the page data. Other than that everything seems fine but that problem itself is quite annoying.
Any way I can test to see what the problem actually is? Here's a video of one of the more obvious problems (first problem occurs about 2:25 in). The other problems, as mentioned, are images not loading fully, connection suddenly basically dying but still "working", CSS not loading fully or properly..
http://www.roadtorobusto.com/networkproblems/ (flash video, may take a second)
This is really a PITA to try to diagnose. Probably will toss a new network card in the computer soon to see if that helps. Any other ideas?
It's happened/happening on two separate HDs and two separate installations of Windows, also, FWIW.

I am trying to reach the vicinity of 3.6 to 3.8 Ghz stable on Big Typhoon Air with my Core Duo X6800 Extreme on the P5B board 1104 bios. I am stable right now at 3520 (320 x 11 multi on 4:5) My memory is Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 4-4-4-12. Core temps run 39C at idle, and rarely surpass 60C on a full load (e.g. dual POVRay renderings at the same time). All voltages are auto with the exception of VDimm, which is set at 2.25V. When I up the multi to 12, I can post, but can't boot into Windows. Just get a black screen with no activity. When I move the bus timings up to 330 still on the stock multi, I can hit 3.63 Ghz, and run a sub-14 Super Pi (see attached), but my graphics are pretty herky-jerky, and when I close out of windows, the machine balks and makes a gravelly kind of popping sound. I know the Extremes aren't the greatest for overclocking, but I was hoping to move that torque up to where I can push around my CAD drawings with more authority. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan
On above post. Make that 1004 bios.
Holy crap Thats so awesome, DL drafting BTW welcome to the forum's
I am still reluctant to upgrade to the 1004 BIOS
711 is still the best in my oppion just due to the fact I have used it forever.
Still missing 2.2v on memory
what voltage i can give to NB for 24/7 usage?
1.55 or 1.65?
1.65 is a little much I'd imagine. Even with good cooling, I start to wonder about any possible effects of electromigration.
That said, intel's specsheets say:
Intel 965 Express Chipset Family - Datasheet
http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets...hts/313053.htm
11.1 Absolute Minimum and Maximum Ratings
Table 10-1. Absolute Minimum and Maximum Ratings
VCC (1.5 V Core voltage with respect to VSS) –0.3V / 1.375V (Min/Max)
VTT (System Bus Input Voltage with respect to VSS) –0.3V / 1.32V (Min/Max)
11.3.1 I/O Buffer Supply Voltage
Table 11.4 I/O Buffer Supply Voltage
VCC (MCH Core Supply Voltage) 1.188V / 1.25V / 1.313V (Min/Typ/Max)
VTT (System Bus Input Supply Voltage) 1.14V / 1.20V / 1.26V (Min/Typ/Max)
which really is extremely low if you ask me, and most everyone runs higher, so I don't know if that's too conservative or what.
Personally, I wouldn't exceed 1.55v. I figure that should be more or less "ok" since gigabyte ds3 automatically does +0.3v when you overclock fsb to a certain point and keep vmch on auto.
That said, it might also not be a bad idea to use a DMM and measure your vmch. When I set 1.55v on my p5b, I actually got 1.60v.
ucode microcode are the id's for cpu's. new ucodes probably are for the e6x20's or maybe the e6x50's etc.
Thanks for the welcome, Muk'ster, I have learned quite a bit perusing these links. Thanks for your input and all the others besides.
As to the overclock, I did try bumping the northbridge core voltage to 1.45, it seemed to help stabilize things a little. I was able to close out of the program without the static sounds at 3.64 Ghz. However, the screen froze on reboot. I must be pretty close to the limit on that 4:5 ratio. Can't seem to get very good results with the 1:1, though. Can't figure that. Have a great day. Dan
guys i need help !
got the board to day and what do i find out that i can max use multie 12 with my QX6700 , any one knows a bios that gives me a higher max multie ?
plz i need it fast

Have you tried it on the other ethernet port? I have one port that drops connection for short periods. Just a thought.

Rob, Dumb question, you do have your PCI Bus locked at 33.33MHz in the bios right!
Hmm I surely need a BIOS
I've noticed something interesting with the 1201 beta bios.
Core Temp reports a different VID. With 1004 bios the VID was 1.325v, now it's at 1.1625v.
I'm wondering if it's wrong or not, because my E6300 runs at 3Ghz@1.22v, and probably at default speed needs 1.1625v, not 1.325v..
Could someone who flashed to 1201 verify the VID change in CT?
what version of coretemp are you using? and do you have an a chip or something else? lxxxaxxx
edit: just saw your sig. hmm that's strange. i thought all a chips were 1.325
I'm using 0.95 and I've seen chips with different VIDs but it's pretty strange if it's changing from a bios version to another.
I have Core2Duo E6300
My temps at idle are 51-54, and under load (not even 100% stress) shoot up to 63-6x+
I seated and reseated cooler for 10 times, checked the CPU and cooler surface, i replaced stock contact paste with more quality like paste. and still no improvement.
i read that the deafults should be 30-35 idle.
I overclocked nothing, all is on auto, motherboard is ASUS P5B-Deluxe/wifiap
Programs used to measure temps are coretemp and TAT.
My default vcore is 1.28v checked with Cpu-Z
HELP!!
I tried setting voltages by hand and still no luck, still high temps. Besides the fact that i have 0.4 vdropp !!!
I tested on another mobo ASUS P5 somethong with integrated gpu, and temps on idle were 30-35. (same stock cooler)
I didnt lapp IHS (beacuse atm its flat as it should be ) but i was planning when i OC this baby to shave few degrees off, which i cannot start beacuse it doesnt even work properly on stock settings.
systems temps is normal ~30.
I will probably RMA the board, which will probably be a huge problem, cause here if it works, its a big fight to get it replaced... but i am just buffled by this overheating.... and i will do my best to get a new one.
I've just hoped that someone had seen something like this before, because in my 8 years as sys builder i havent...
Just out of curiosity, what is the ambient room temperature where your computer is operating?

The Max multiplier is x10 on your CPU.
10x is nominal but x's are unlocked. i believe this board will allow 12x, but I've never fiddled with x's. good luck
Ambient room temp is 20-25... i will RMA the board, i dont know what else to do... i cant even do 90% orthos 5 mins without going to 65+
Yep. That's way too high for those surroundings. Your net exchange with your room temp is 44C at idle and it should be only about half that or less. Yikes. Of course in winter you wouldn't need a space heater. :>)
This attached chart (also from the Intel site) shows the power ratings that go with the expected temps. It is apparent that with lower demands at idle speed that the processor also should be reflecting a lower operating temp. So, even though the cpu may warrant a 61.4C thermal rating, that rating seems to be under full power, not idle. I am tending to side with Angelica that the board should be RMA'd.
Misspelled your name Angelico. Sorry about that.

Well then I need to RMA my board also. I use SpeedStep and my CPU Idles at x6 2.16 MHz. My CPU temp reports 55 Degrees at that speed. My system is very stable and runs 24/7. My reliability monitor is indexed at 9.47. I had a power failure that took it down from a index of 10. I need a new UPS.
.
2.16mhz?
" Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency, which can result in decreased average power consumption and decreased average heat production. "

lol off by 1000 places
Well i am currently waiting for net to run out then I send board, cause its starting to get real hot here in Serbia, so no on idle i have 59-60+.
Anyway I need your opinion on something; I finally found 2 memory modules :
1. OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 / 1066 MHz / Reaper HPC Edition / Dual Channel
- 1066MHz DDR2
EPP 5-5-5-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
2 GB(2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
Unbuffered
OCZ Lifetime Warranty
2.3 Volts
240 Pin DIMM
Reaper HPC Heatsink*
EPP-Ready
2.35V EVP**
and
2. OCZ EL DDR2 PC2-8000 / 1000MHz / Gold Gamer eXtreme / XTC Edition / Dual Channel
- 1000MHz DDR2
CL 5-6-6-15
(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
2 GB(2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
Unbuffered
Gold Layered XTC Heatspreader*
Lifetime Warranty
2.1 Volts
240 Pin DIMM
EVP**
Which one is better, esspecialy i would like somones opinion who has OCZ. price difference between these 2 is 42euros.
mem #1 is a bit faster and hotter . it looks like a newer version of #2 .
with no direct experience , I'd say #2 would OC to #1 level easily
Hotter as in better or as in producing more heat?
Somebody can tell me what would be the overclocking penalty, if any, when we have four banks of memory installed on this mobo?
Currently I have 2x1gb sticks of OCZ-1000 at 1000mhz with an E6300 overclocked to 3.5ghz
Out of the p965's, only the abit quadgt, but I might be mistaken, so you should look into it more. If you're looking for 1t, you should probably look at the nvidia chipsets
1. Windows XP can't use 4GB
2. Depending on your PC usage profile, you benefit more from more ram or more cpu calc power .
3. I assume you are talking about the same reasoning for getting Dual Channel kit vs seperate sticks : it will be the same situation i.e you have 1 bios with 2 (perhaps) different pairs ( DDR2-800 &DDR2-1000 for example). so the penalty in running the 2*(2*1GB) ram at the slowest common denominator is hard to predict.
4. BUT the PC performance vs RAM performance are 2 different things, and as #2 indicated , even a bit slower ram can be beneficial overall .
5. By itself , ram speed contributes not more than 1 digit percents to PC performance .
hmm, found this thread too. i dont want to repeat the post so go here to read it: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=701
also chuckbam. i seem to have the same mobo/ram/cpu as you. id love to get your exact bios settings if you could message that to me. ram timings etc, etc.
thanks a bunch.
Hi,
My settings are basically:
CPU.. 360
DRAM 900
PCI Express 100 ( Any higher it keeps reverting to 1X bus vs 16x on some re-boots)
PCI Clock 33.33
Spread Spectrum .. Disabled
Memory Volts 2.3
V Core 1.3875
CAS 4
CAS Delay 5
RAS % 5
RAS Active 12
Ie 4-5-5-12
For some reason, default or looser memory timings result in a overclock.
failure. I was running 4-4-4-12 when I had 2GB RAM. But when I went up to 4GB, I had to change it to 4-5-5-12. I tried about every RAM timing possible on this board.
Most everything else is at default.
I had greater overclocks but I settled on this for stability and 24/7 operation.
1. I'm using vista 64bits
2-5, I'm asking this because my sole interest is to anticipate any need for 4gb in future games like Crysis and take advantage of the low memory prices that we currently have on the market (I hear rumors that the mem price is going up becase they are reducing production)
heh, when my pcie freq is 100 it runs at 1x, i changed it to 110 and it enables 16x.. odd how its opposite.
ok ive copied those timings off you, ill try tightening them up after i find out if this is stable or not (so far so good). but i was wondering about the other timings. TRFC, TRRD, etc. could you post those as well please?
thanks.
I do not have enough knowledge to adjust those. There are no specifications for the memory available and ASUS provides no information either. I keep them at default. I do know that my memory is T2.
If you find any improvement for adjusting any of the other settings, please let me know.
The PCIE thing is odd.
Is there anyone here that could give me concrete BIOS-settings so that I could get my E6600 to 3GHZ? I've tried reading some overclocking-guides but most don't make any sense to me.
I'm using http://corsair.com/corsair/products/...X2048-6400.pdf if that's any help.
I've hit a wall with my P5-B - any ideas please ?
specs are E6600 (L624), original ver of P5-B Delux, 11.01 bios, 2 gig 8500 Crucial
9*365 with Vcore @ 1.5 (set in bios), memory at 1090 CAS5, Orthos stable (Blend) for 10 hours :)
9x370 with Vcore @ 1.52, memory now dropped to 960 so 4:5 multiplier (I've tried both CAS4 and CAS5 to no avail) - Orthos Small stable for over an hour - Orthos blend always fails at about 35 mins, whether RAM set to CAS4 or CAS5.#
normally if I have Vcore set too low for the CPU, Orthos small fails much quicker than Orthos blend, so I'm suspecting RAM or Mobo. RAM I've had up to 1030 CAS4 - so I doubt that.
Mobo voltage settings are ICH to Auto, all the rest in the "pink", can't remember exacts but MCH is 1.45, South = 1.6 etc.
I can't try the x8 or x7 multiplier as my mobo/cpu combination HATES it with a passion - 3.25 gig on x9 only needs 1.5Vcore, but 3.2 gig on x8 needs 1.525 just too boot !
thanks for any tips, Mark.
Buckster
Try a top to bottom . set voltages to minimal max (purple-pink) and FSB to 500 etc ( medium of high OC ) . keep an eye on temps
There's an FSB wall at 399 , has to do with the way the NB works. when you OC you OC it too * .
Does anybody know how to set up the Realtek WiFi drivers on this board to use on Vista Ultimate 32 bit (x86). Thanks -Jim
Is any one using the Vista audio beta drivers v6.10.X.6100 ?
Do the work well? Any new features ?
What's changes have beta BIOS 1201?.

ok i got my antec sonata iii case and just put it together. wow i love it.
first off. everything has completely changed. i think due to the difference in power its getting. (8 pin 12v, proper direct pcie connector, etc). as i said before i had to overclock the pcie bus to 110 to achive 16x. after i put together my system it was at 1x! so i set it back to 100 and its working perfectly at 16x again. also before i changed it i played a demo and it was choppy as hell, the sound too. but fine after. i wouldnt be surprised if my system is totally stable now because of the better psu. lets hope.
so, I'm soon going to get a cpu and start overclocking. Just wanted to know what kind of voltages are adequate for high overclocks* on the P5B Deluxe (CPU, FSB, ram, ICH, MCH, etc...).
I'm going to use this board with 2GB of PC2 9600 HyperX ram and hopefully a C2D E6700 batch 32A
* by high overclocks I mean 400 fsb / 600 ram or 500 fsb / 500 ram
ok i just ran into a major problem here. was listening to some music and went to burn a cd. when it started burning the music got really really choppy. i looked at how much cpu was being used and it was 50-70% cpu.
i have a pata dvdburner, but using a sata adapter. could this be the cause? when i looked at process explorer. the "interupts" is 30-50% cpu, and "system" is about 20%.. thats pretty crazy for a 3.2 ghz system just burning a cd!
ok the cd has finished burning and verified. but the "system" was still at 20% cpu. so i looked at the properties of system, in the threads. its kmixer.sys, which is the kernel mode audio mixer.. why is this using 20% of my cpu? im not even listening to anything right now.
ok. i just started listening to music and its gone. im back to 100% idle. for some reason burning the cd screwed with the audio.. is this some kind of conflict i can diagnose or correct?
Check to see that the controller isn't setting the drive in pio mode. Change it to dma and it should get better
heres the settings:
http://74.115.131.177/dvdrom.jpg
I mean in windows. Is it reporting as pio4 or udma2?
sorry i wasnt sure what you meant. im not sure im looking in the right area here. in devices > ide ata/atapi controllers i have 3 "primary ide channels", and 3 "secondary ide channels". theres no indications of what drive is on what controller but one of them is indeed stuck on pio mode. i guess it could be the adapter im using? this is what it is: http://www.abit-usa.com/technology/serillel_new.php
any advice other than to get a new dvd writer (which i plan on getting at some point this summer)

guy's i need the best bios for quad core on this board any one that can help me ?
IMPORTANT
Is there any problem to set NB voltage to 1.55V ???
because today i have installed a SECOND 2 GB kit of ram, so i have 4 x 1GB.
I got freezes and programm crashes with the settings i used for 2x1GB.
Now i set NB to 1.55v (bevore 1.45V)... may it works then!
So np for the nb with 1.55v @ 24/v ???
it seems to that there is no other way to get that stable i think.
evildoer, try this.
force the drive to pio mode. reboot. then choose dma if available again and reboot. see if that triggers it into dma mode.

One strange thing. With my overclock, I get a OC Failure error with default timings or looser timings setting on the boot."
I only change the first 4 setting and keep all the other at default. I am running my 4 sticks at RAM at 900 MHZ.
Hey guys,
I just recently purchased a Seagate 750GB FreeAgent Pro external hard drive with eSATA connector. But I can not get my P5B Deluxe's ESATA port to work with this hard drive. I bought the ESATA to eSATA cable from Monoprice.com here:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...=2#description
I installed the latest JMicron Raid driver, and set my JMicron to RAID in BIOS. My IDE DVD-RW drive is detected by the JMicron Raid driver, but my ESATA isn't :(.
I tried AHCI or ACHI in BIOS, Windows won't boot, system restarts as soon as I see the loading screen for Windows.
For those of you who uses the P5B Deluxe motherboard with an eSATA external HD, what are the BIOS settings for IDE configuration and Onboard devices?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
btw, not sure if it matters, but the cable doesn't make a tight fit into the motherboard nor the drive, but it is snug enough so it doesn't pop out itself.
under Boot, go to hard drives and make sure it shows up in the boot list.
only the hard drives hooked to the intel ports show up there by default.
Im having a bit of a trouble with my p5b DLX wifi ap.
Maybe you guys can help me.
I have a Dell 2007WFP...and the USB hub seems to disconnect if i leave the comp turned on for several hours....to fix it i have to restart.
Also it seems that sometimes the onboard sound fails after several hours....it gives me that tipical no-drivers-installed error that appears when you forget to install drivers at first boot.
Anyway...ive passed orthos 12hs and memtest 260%...
Any clues?
Maybe is bios related?
is the hub a powered one of is it bus powered?
Is the built in hub from dells monitor...i think is powered by the monitor itself...BUT im not completely sure.
I don't have a eSATA hard drive and never tested one on my system. But, one time I made the mistake of loading JMicron drivers. As a result, I needed to reload Windows. I use it for a CD/ DVD ROM only and it works fine without it drivers. It is set up in the device manager with Microsoft Drivers.
Just a thought, could you not get a long SATA cable, run it out the back and use the Intel Matrix Storage driver. Or, would that not work.

so lets forget about its the ram problem
I first had CORSAIR XMS2 PC2 8500)TWIN2X # 8500CS and it would not perform anything close to it's specification. Corsair said it was the motherboard compatibility issue. So I sold it on ebay.
So I purchased Kingston HyperX PC2 6400 and it is solid as a rock. My memory is on the QVL list,
I have overclocked my system much higher (even memory) than it is now for testing. But, I don't like to run 24/7 with maximum overclocking. I even use SpeedStep.
SNIPoR, you test with 3DMARK2001 ?
ill test the motherboard with diffrent brands of mem ,,,, ill let you know wheat happen next, Thank you very much help  :D
Edit:

whats wrong with it?
A think he ment in devmgmt, not in bios .. if i am not mistaken...

The temps! The E6700 now idles at 40C on watercooling
Also, the system's performance is lower than the P5W at the same settings or at the higher 400fsb 1:1 (which I couldn't reach with the P5W).
Anything I should know about the P5B and high fsb settings?
Jast as a test.
Mem Voltage at 2.3 v
CPU at 1.3857
Lock PCI at 33.33%
Set all the other setting on that page as default
Set Mem at 4-5-5-12 The rest keep all other settings at defult.
With those settings I can get my 4 GBs Kingston HyperX up to 1,000 MHz (500 x2 Mhz)
and A fsb of over 1500 MHz
Is self powered, from the monitor.
Any ideas guys? Im freaking out here.
EDIT: Im running bios 804...should i update?
EDIT2: Im starting to feel fed up with asus boards...theres always an issue...you cant have a perfect board...theres ALWAYS something up.
Either i fix this...or im going with GIga's p35...and the hell with asus.
try the FSB at 401 instead.
Are there any known problems with populating all 4 dimms sockets ?
i know it doesnt show above 3gb properly
i have 2 x 1gb geil 800 mhz dimms and wanna put 2 x 512mb of the same type of ram in for a total of 3gb
dont wanna mess up a successful overclock of 400 fsb cpu at 3.2ghz memory at 800
and 1 other question im running 400fsb no probs why do people always suggest try 401 ? is there something special that happens with 1mhz more ?
