Maybe mediocre e8400 but there are other things you didn't mention like locking the pci-e to 100, disabling eist and array spectrums, etc.
Disabled everthing in BIOS, all slow down functions, CPU spread spectrum, PCI-E locked at 100 MHz... Also disabled Virtualization Technology and Execute Disable Bit although not so on the picture... My BIOS settings:Quote:

My E8500 system has started blue screening. It is OCCT and small fft stable. It is as likely to crash at idle as under load. My Asus P5k deluxe has been working away for about a year now. I am thinking it is either that or a memory problem. The dominator chips are new and have not shown any errors. I did bump vdimm to 2.15 just for grins.
Love to hear any ideas before I start making expensive decisions. Sig is current.

So what's the consensus on applying a little bit a voltage to these suckers? It took a BIOS setting of 1.5175v on my Rampage Forumla to get this stable at 4.0Ghz. CPU-z says 1.48v. Do we have confirmation of early death due to these higher voltages? I think I'll leave it here and see if I can donate my chip to the name of science. I have a feeling it won't be a problem for the six months to a year that I keep a chip.
Anyone else get a Q816? I only saw one in the database from leeghofd but was wondering if anyone else has one!

Multimeter - how to measure vcore? I bought it, but don't know where to place red and black whire to measure real vcore under load? Plese help! Since I did pencil mod want to measure real voltage...
put the black prob on one of your psu black wires anyone and the red one on the chokes around the cpu area this should work ;)
I got one about 2 weeks ago and so far I can run at 4GHz stable at 1.20V with it. But I had problems with my raid -0- lost everything so I had to start over again..:mad: I know I can get more because I was at 4.2GHz 1.25V, but memory problems kept me back. Temps dont sound bad at all mate but you are still running an extremely high vcore. Have you tried tuning your other voltages so you can get your vcore down? 1.5 volts is incredibly high for 4ghz.Quote:

Yesterday I've received my new E8500 Q807A253. I've played with this CPU only for two hours, but it looks this batch is good. I've tested for max. OC with min. Vcore and I've managed to get 4512 (9.5x475) with 1.36v under Vapochill XEII one hour Prime stable.

Compared to my old Q6600 in Crysis benchmark there is raising with 2-3 FPS.
But this is just the beginning of my test;) When I have more results I'll post some pics about max. OC and bench results.

My new Q816A passed OCCT 1hr cpu test at 4.2 (8.5x495) with 1.33v bios set on my maximus formula.
Prime95 small fft failed at this setting in 1hr 18 minutes.
Now test 4.2 with 1.35v bios set. I really wish I could find the vcore reading point for this board so I knew the exact voltage since this board droops.

Swapped my Q6600 with my baby brother's E8500 on the offchance that it might be a good one...
Turns out it was a Q745A809 purchased back in February, I'd heard good things about the Q745A's but when I got it installed I found it had a pretty disappointing VID of 1.225 :shrug:

Ok. I think I finally got my overclock stable. As you can see from the pics, it passed a 5 hour small FFT test in Orthos and I just started a blend test to make sure that the ram is stable. If all goes well, I will try for a 4000 Mhz overclock later today.

The temps are a bit high, but after I lap my heatsink and processor, those should go down.
I know that when you run Large FFTs, the 5 minutes are crucial for the ram ...if in this minutes you don't have any error, you have 99% stability on u're ram...that's right ? :D...anyway...

in p5k dlx wi/fi which gave 550FSB with E6850 it disappointed me.this
batch couldnot go over 500FSB.i tried all settings but no luck.with
this MB E8650 could not reach 4GHZ but 550FSB surprised.e8400 can
go 4GHZ 9*445 stayable and 500*8 unstayable.all setting are on auto except
mem volts. any body with MB and this batch any got any luck.

Okay. I'm having a bit of trouble overclocking my E8400 above 3600 Mhz. At 3600 it seems stable on 1.23 Vcore. But when I try to go above 3600 it won't pass a 1 hour OCCT - always crashes with a code 1 error. I have tried adjusting every setting I can think of. Because its a calculation error I can assume that the problem is with the processor. I have tried upping the voltage and adjusting the VTT both up and down with no success. For some reason though, whenever I take the Vcore above 2.8 it won't even post. The only thing I can think of is that my memory (DDR2 800) is somehow holding me back. Any suggestions would be super helpful.

I never had a DFI Toasty but for 450FSB ops I needed 1.5NB volts on the Maximus boards.. also your CPU VTT is way low.. try 1.2
Question for the Vcore : with the working settings eg 400FSB and you put in 1.28Vcore : it just won't post or doesn't it post with 1.28Vcore set and ya new settings ? if no post try 1.35 and work ya way down...
also why don't ya use the 9 multi and try 425FSB...

Oh, and when I set the VCore above 1.28 it powers on for less than a second and then shuts off. If I had to guess, I would say that its the thermal management shutting down the system because the temps are spiking. with my 4000 Mhz over clock, its hitting 68c. After I lap the CPU and heatsink I hope to get better thermal performance cause the temps are a bit scary as is.

my E8500 has a 1.165V VID and can hit 4.7ghz on water with 1.66v (in bios) 1.625V (real)

Realtemp is correct as it's based on TJcasemax 95 while OCCT and Coretemp still use 105 as value, so they are 10°C off... you can adjust coretemp Tjcasemax via options - settings and putting in -10 in the Tjunction Max offset box.. for OCCT only thing to do is to put like you did put 80 instead of 70 thereQuote:

I never break 60c when playing crysis.... and Prime and Folding keep it sub 60c with spikes in the low 60s now and then
