Finally had a moment to update the bios. Flashed to 16Beta and both NIC's are back. Weird  Thanks for the tip Ace.

Can I ask what's the difference between bios version 14 and the beta 16?
BTW why's no version 15?
I am thinking of trying beta 16 to see if it fixes this issue I have: When I run the multiplier of 8 and the computer goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up correctly...meaning the cpu/fan seem to come up and run but nothing displays on the screen and the keyboard doesn't work. This issue doesn't happen at any speed at multiplier of 9. I have Q6600 G0.
no stated changes for 16 but Abit was working on improving memory performance with 4Gigs of memory.
would you guys say the IP35 Pro would be a better choice over the new IX38 Quad GT?
I read the guide for the heat pipe mod. It says it raises temps so you need to add a fan. Whats the point of this mod?
Just wanted to say thanks Ace-a-Rue
Followed your guide for the bolt mod and it dropped my PWM temps 20 degrees when at load :D
One issue I keep having though is I have a western digital 500GB external hdd. Now if the hdd is idle for a bit the hdd sort of goes to sleep. Then if I try to access it or try to open my bookmarks in firefox for example I have to wait a few seconds for it to wake up. I can actually hear when it goes to sleep and when it wakes up. It even does it with a 160gb freecom external hdd, I was testing to see if it was a feature specific to the WD hdd, it wasn't.
It happens in both xp pro x86 and vista x64. On my old asus p5wd2-e premium this never happened. Is this normal or is something wrong?
Cheers
Billy
Have you disabled power saving for HDD's in Vista? I run 6x WD HDD's on this board, among them 2x500GB's, and I've had no problems with it.
My internal hdd's are fine, the issue only happens with external hdd's through both usb and firewire. I have the power saving disabled in vista, but the same thing happens in xp aswell which is why I thought it may be a mobo related issue.
there is a "power management" tab under each of the "USB Root Hub" driver entries in "System"...uncheck the power saving mode.
Well my HDD problems are back..
This time it started with the disk connected to sata-port 2. When I later unplugged it the disk in port 3 started giving me the same errors -_-
I'm thinking it's the mobo, it feels like I've tried everything now, formatting both drives, updating bios etc.
Guess the only thing left to do is to try the disks in a friends computer before returning the mobo.
Hah wow, this is awkward.. I changed both SATA-cables and been running HDTach tests like a madman for like an hour without any errors what so ever. O_O
With the bolt mod, is it OK to remove the thermal pad and use Arctic Silver 5?
Or do you have to use the Arctic ceramitique because its non conductive?
Ace has the links in his sig..... here they are anyway

I'll be upgrading from my E6600 to a Q6600 in a few days. I aim to oc to (hopefully) 3.4-3.5 GHz with the Q6600. My current PWM temps are 39 idle and 50 under max load (Orthos small FFT).
For those of you who are running quads, what are your PWM temps? Did you have to do any mods to the IP35 Pro heatsink assembly or install an aux fan?
those above links do not work for whatever reason.
i did not mention replacing the TIM material directly but i gave you a clue;)when i said the TIM peeled off real easy.:D
are there any improvements from the newer bios? im currently on 14 was wondering it anything important changed
the 16 beta bios allows better memory usage with four sticks and the board will not shutdown when you save bios changes; a good thing in my book!
For the Vdroop mod, I guess I don't understand why Abit didn't just incorporate this into the board in the first place. If the regulation is capable.
Has me thinking there may be a downside to doing this mod ?
I've done quite a bit of SMD soldering so I'm not worried about that.
The system I'm building needs to be super stable, at first glance I would think the vdroop mod would help stability but I just can't help but wonder why it wasn't incorporated into the board in the first place.
Ace, what did it do for memory with 4 sticks? I have been lost for the last couple of weeks trying to make Crysis work at it's best. (and it just might after another year of upgrades). I did flash up to 16 to cure my NIC problem but have not tried any testing to see if I can get any better on my OC.
Indeed, this is good news. Shutting down only briefly then powering back up has always concerned me. If done frequently enough, I imagine much higher HDD failure, especially with high-rpm models like the Raptors. Surprisingly this hasn't been the case or at least I haven't heard.
When you say "better memory usage" does that mean compatibility with more memory manuf, tighter timings, or increased speed?
my understanding is higher memory Mhz with 4 sticks...
Blah, I give up. I've tried every thinkable combination now, and I just can't get this board stable over 450MHz FSB with my G0 Q6600. So it's either a board limitation, or a CPU FSB limitation. As mentioned before, I get lock-ups in Windows at everything over 450, and it's extremely annoying. My goal was 463x8, but it doesn't seen possible. Isn't 450MHz a very low limitation? I see most people getting like 470+ out of their quads...
Anyway. I basically have two choices now:
1) 450x8 for 3600MHz with a 5:6 divider for 1080MHz memory.
2) 415x8 for 3740Mhz with a 4:5 divider for ~ 1040MHz memory.
Does FSB over 400MHz make much of a difference? Which combination should I choose?
it shouldnt be a serious issue, unless your in the bios 24/7 doing alot of stuff, I set the HDD delay to 3 seconds, its in the bios, under advanced. So when the system starts up, there is a pause before the drives spin up. I firgure that should be good enough to stave off any unwanted abuse.
Wonder when beta16 is going final? i was unable to get it stable with my system, probably due to 4 dimm's , or just a bad flash. bios 14 has been fine though
having 4 sticks natrually will reduce your fsb headroom. the hightest i can get it stable(tested 3 hours prime) is 462fsb. I settled for the fsb in my sig. and yes higher fsb will give better performance, but in gaming its really nothing that drastic, i would be happy with your settings. Or take two sticks out and sell them, and then run higher fsb. 480+ of course on air u can only take it so far if its your 24/7 rig.
does any knows if the swiftech MC30 will fit the NB i have one laying around and will like to water cooled the NB, my concern is that i will have to cut the pipe and don't know how it will affect the PW
i have a couple active coolers to use on the SB also , so i could remove that just curiuos, thanks for any suggestions
So I click on each of the links for the other guides and it's pretty much copied and pasted onto other forums. Am I missing something? But this is a ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide? If it's a guide wheres the how to OC this thing? Anyone have a step by step for an P35 or Abit IP35 pro board how to? My buddy in Texas could use one.

I have had this board for a couple of months now, but recently I have tried overclocking the rig but have been having trouble getting it prime stable. Before I installed the board I did the PWM bolt mod and the PWM says around 60-70C under load. I have flashed to bios 14 and I have played with my memory and it is good till 1135Mhz before it starts to have error in Memtest86. Anyways I have been having trouble getting my Q6600 stable at 3.6GHZ. I can get prime95 small FFT's stable at 1.52v, but I can't get the large stable even at 1.54v. Here is my settings:
FSB: 400
Divider: 1:1 (Mem 4-4-4-12)
vcore: 1.54v
cpu vtt: 1.35V
mch: 1.42v
ICHIO: 1.60v
Thanks
suggest you loosen up the memory timings to 5-5-5-18-42 and then, jack your vcore up some more....mch and ichio need to be increased also.
Hello friends,
I had bought this mainboard (IP 35 Pro) about two months ago, but I did install it just this morning. I even didn't turn the board on to watch the temps of PWM and CPU, I went straight with ace's bolt mod! and just for a check with my success or failure please tell me what you think about this temps at idle?! please note that I used a simple white thermal paste on regulators beside the cpu.
Core2 e6320 @ 400*8 = 2800 @ 1.38v stock cooler
G.Skill DDR2 800 cl4 @ DDR1000 4-4-3-5 @ 2.3v
4x12cm fan 2 intake 2 outtake
the result :
@ idle :
cpu = 34 C
system = 32 C
PWM = 40 C
@ load after 30 min of orthus 2006
cpu max @ 56
system max @ 38
pwm max @ 52
So am I going with right temps?
and the must important thing! I cant boot to windows over FSB 420!!! is it a limitation with e6320 ?
Thanks!
Ace-a-Rue I have tried running CAS 5 at 800MHZ, and increased the voltage which didn't help. 1.55V for 3.6Ghz seems a little high compared to what everyone using for there G0. Maybe my G0 stepping A721 isn't as good.
Thanks
Hey, I am having trouble flashing my motherboard
I boot into dos and run the runme.bat but I get an insufficient memory message
Any advice?
Hope fully a new bios will let me up the FSB, its maxing out at 465, capping my cpu overclock at 3720. I underclocked memory and cpu multiplier and it is definately the FSB crashing the system :(
on the topic of bios flashing, what is the most stable flashing method besides the floppy, I threw all of mine out :(
I just put together a new rig for my dad with this mobo and I'm having problems with uGuru. I installed it, restarted (like it asked) and soon as it loads it gets the "abit uGuru Application has encounted a problem and needs to close..." I used the latest uGuru from Abit's website and I can't figure out the problem.
temps look good.
FSB can be affected by memory timings and FSB to memory ratio...when trying to overclock to the maximum always use 1:1 FSB to memory ratio and loose memory timings...once you have reached the max FSB then you can start tightening up the memory timings and adjust the FSB to memory ratio.
man, i have had this board for almost 2 months now and i cant get it working.....i just finally for sure decided the mobo is bad. Ive been through a LOT of troubleshooting on the Abit forums and nothing seems to help....way too much to type about what i have posted there if you are interested heres the thread link http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=127754
Ill try to sum it up...originally i was having problems during xp setup and i was getting the bsod. So, naturally memtest was the first thing i tried...i had like 2000 errors within 20 min in memtest using 1 or 2 sticks in diff dimms. Someone suggested that my raptors might be the problem in raid 0 which didnt make any sense to me but i figured i might as well try it. Sure enough, i unplugged the raptors ran memtest for 2 hours and had 0 errors. So i was like ***.....plugged one raptor back in installed xp on one drive and had it up and running for about a day. Went on vacation for a week, came home fired up my pc only to be greeted by the C1 memory error on the lcd post and my gpu fan running at 100%. Nothing worked, cleared cmos everything and still C1.....tried 1 stick 2 sticks different dimms all that still no luck. I figured the RAM died somehow while i was gone so i RMAd it back to crucial. Got the new sticks from them monday and was excited to throw them in and use this rig thats been sitting here for a month. Fired it up, nothing but the C1 and gpu fan @ 100%. Tried the sticks in all diff combos again and nothing. At this point im like seriously *** is going on....went to circuit city and bought a stick of PNY ddr2 rated for 1.8v since i know that the ballistix take 2.2 to run to make sure the ram not getting enough juice wasnt the problem. Got home last night put it in only to once again be greeted by the C1 error. I really have no idea what to even try at this point, im setting up the RMA on abit's website as we speak because i am out of ideas I'm hoping someone here might have something else i can try before i give up and drain my loop, unmount my blocks, RMA my mobo etc. because i REALLY dont want to do all that lol....thanks for taking the time to read this guys, i appreciate it
Hmm my sig didnt post with my msg...weird here it is

have you unhooked the the raptor drives again to see if you can get the C1 post error code?
clearing CMOS won't do it when you have problems like you are having...clear cmos AND pop the battery out for about 5 minutes...make sure the power plug is also unplugged.
are you even getting a post screen?...if not, try a different VC...PCI or PCIe
yea i just unhooked them again, no dice.....i cleared the cmos and took the battery out for 30 min yesterday with no luck....unfortunately all i have are AGP vid cards laying around
UPDATE : Wow, i feel like an idiot after all this time.....took out my video card and booted it without one and it got right past the C1 and went to 7F. My video card had some sort of weird :banana::banana::banana: on the middle of the pci-e connector so i cleaned it off put it back in and got to 7F. I dont have it hooked up to anything i was just trying out diff ideas and reading the lcd post to see if i could get past the C1. Thanks for the help man, honestly after building PC's for 4 years i seriously cannot believe i didnt check the vid card earlier :( It worked perfectly fine in my last rig so i didnt think anything of it! Oh well, thats what forums like these are for :)
does your VC require an aux power?...also...there is an additional power molex plug adjacent to the 2nd PCIe slot...plug power into that female molex.
refer to page 1-6 in your manual.
well, i got it booted up into xp setup. Now i am having the original problem i had on day 1....BSOD when RAID on the onchip sata device is enabled. If i go back to bios and set the onchip sata to ide setup works fine. When i get the BSOD its right before xp setup reaches the part where it detects your hard drives and lets you create your partitions
Update: XP setup refuses to work and bsod every time in raid. I have 2 copies and both do the same thing even with slipstreamed raid drivers. So i decided to try vista ultimate 64-bit and it worked on the first try....its currently installing right now so we will see how it works out. *crosses fingers*
The BSOD is caused by incorrect drivers. You can include AHCI/RAID drivers by hitting F6 when the XP setup starts. Make sure you have the RAID/AHCI drivers on a floppy and VIOLA, it will detect the drives, install the drivers AND best of all NO BSOD.
IMO you should always install the RAID drivers even if you dont use them. This way when you DO decide to use it, when you capture your image, you wont have to rebuild the whole image from scratch.
I've had my ABIT35 Pro running for 3 weeks with no problems. Last night I powered it down normally. This morning I get a Post Code 25. I have a PCI Express Video card. It is 3 weeks old also. What should I check first? Code 25 is early PCI Initialization - memory assign and also check for valid vga device. Should I buy a cheap PCI express (or just PCI?) video card and try that? (unfortunately my spares are AGP). Or, should I swap out the memory first? The memory is also 3 weeks old. Thanks for any help.
could someone explain to me what does cpu vtt and cpu glref mean, and do they make or break an overclock?
vista installed no problem with no bsod....xp however would refuse to install regardless of slipstreaming drivers or hitting F6 and loading them from floppy. Very strange....oh well ive always wanted to try vista anyway. No other problems so far, time to start OCing :D
just a quick question.....have you guys been using uguru to OC or have you been doing it the old fashioned way in bios? just wondering because hitting f10 to save and exit bios shuts my computer off completely for about 2-3 seconds and turns it back on instead of just restarting.....dunno if this is normal for this mobo but its annoying. Ive always used OCCT for stress testing, anybody have any other suggestions besides orthos or prime?
Why do it in the BIOS if you dont have to? :yepp:
anytime you get error codes, it is a good idea to unplug the PSU, clear CMOS and pop the battery out for about 5 minutes.
also, try inserting the VC in the other PCIe slot and try only one memory stick; swapping out with different sticks to see if one of the sticks has failed.
hi,
today I swapped my e6600 for q6600. My e6600 was running 3.6ghz@1.45V stable 24/7. However, q6600 is not stable even on 366x9 (3.3ghz). It is H2O cooled, temperatures should not be a problem. I tried to apply the same settings from my w6600, but apparently smth does not work. I did reset the bios, however, I did not reinstall win (I hate doing that as this is my work machine with quite a few programs and peripherals, so reinstall takes a long time)
Settings I tried to use:
vcore up to 1.5V
MCH 1.48
VTT 1.42
ich 1.09
ICHIO 1.65
68%
Currently I am using 2x1gb ballistix (2x1gb is coming back from RMA), however, ram was set 1:1 so I doubt that this is a problem. Bios is 11. CPU is L737 week.
Any suggestions on OC of this chip..? I think I would prefer e6600 at 3.6ghz+ over 3ghz q6600.....
I have my cpu voltage set to 1.325V. On uGuru I get an oscillation between 1.21V to 1.31V at idle and 1.30V when running Orthos.
I am running a E2160 at 3.oGhz, it is stable with orthos but I am concerned that the voltage is too low.
Why doesn't the MB run at the setpoint 1.325V. This is new and came with bios 14.
hey guys...testing a new beta bios and so far, i like it...Bingo13 (AKA, Gary Key with Anandtech) forwarded it to me for testing...he will post a link here in this thread very soon.
initial results:
1) i increased my overclock to 3915 mhz (435 X 9), so far, with successful benching of 3D2001, 3D2005, 3D2006, PCMark2005 and wPrime bench.
2.) could successfully run 4:5 memory ratio, which is the 1066 memory strap, at a slightly lower overclock of 430 FSB X 9 = 3870 Mhz....previously, could not set 4:5 memory ratio using my Dominators DDR1142 or TeamGroup DDR1000.
3.) the only annoyance is when i cold post/boot (could be caused by my high overclock)...i get a siren like sound coming from the mobo/case speaker when it starts from a power off...it is giving you the impression that the memory is out of limits...BUT...in about 2 seconds, the siren sound stops and it post normally....on a warm reboot, it works just fine.
i am still reducing my ICHIO (1.8) and MCH (1.64) to find my bottom point to support 3915 Mhz...i have 1.550 for vcore set in the bios and i am getting about 1.52 actual vcore...once all the low end voltages are found, i will start increasing the FSB to see if i can hold 4Ghz for benching other than Prime 95 type.
here are my current settings for anyone wanting to know....memory set to 5-5-5-15-22
well i just fired up my abit p35 pro,e6750 cpu,and ocz reaper 8500 ram 2x1 gig
i am using an ultima90,with a 92 and 120 push pull,it is just setup on my desk, for now.
i went into bios, made a few changes, ram timings voltages etc.
when i leave bios, why does it turn off, then start back up again?.i have never encountered that before?
fwiw, cpu temp in bios was reading 23c!!
look forward to this new bios
Thanks for the info ACE. :)
A working 4:5 divider would be all that i miss in this board...
BTW have u tried cpu-z 1.42? I still get hard lockups. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm getting a little bit desperate here. I can't oc q6600 on this mobo AT ALL. I mean, fsb 300 results in hard lock ups in win. I just used ace settings from post #3584, tried fsb 333 - no luck -windows locked up in few seconds on prime. wtf is wrong? I'm using using beta 16.01 bios.
My previous system e6600 was stable at 3.6ghz.
PC specs:

abit ip35pro
2x1gb crucial balistix
evga 7900gs oc
2x36gb wd raptor
2x500gb wd re2
1x320gb wd
1x320gb hitachi
pioneer dvdrw +160gb ide hdd
creative audigy2pro
Thats about all, 2407dell +viewsonic vx2025 dual monitor setup. As I said, it was stable with bios 11 and e6600@3.6ghz, however, this q6600 does not go even on 300mhz fsb. It's really strange. Any ideas welcome :)
Here the BIOS that we worked long and hard on to address its few shortcomings- http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/...629B1603AT.rar - :D
correction on multi change shutting the board down...on my board with beta 16.b01, a multi change does NOT shut the board down...i have the original version 1.0....changing memory timings and memory straps will shut the board down.
beta bioses done by Abit end in a letter and 2 numerical numbers instead of the normal ".BIN" so people know that it is not an official bios...beta's are still in the tweaking stage so things might not work perfectly.
Finally I decided to throw away Asus Maximus Formula and return to the good old IP35Pro dropmodded this time...
I wasn't surprised at all...I knew what to expect...Much better fsb with my Q6600 than the more expensive Asus Maximus Formula...
