i would go with the 16 beta bios...that bios allows to save bios changes without the puter shutting down and then powering back on...there is no change in performance as far as i can detect with my hardware.

memset will not work with this board unless you use the 11 bios.

i am considering to stay with this board with the Penryn cpu...i am planning on purchasing a QX9650 if they don't get sucked up in the first day of availablity.;)..if the board does not work well with the QX9650 then i will move on to the X48 chipset.

every board, every cpu is different in output/performance..as my brother says, "it is what it is"!....hate that!:D

don't get wrapped around the axle with P95 because what voltages makes P95 to work will be overkill for many benches and standard software installed on your system....3DMark06 is the only exception where you need P95 type vcore to run the CPU core test in that bench.

I'm thinking of doing some mods on some old Athlon XP heatsinks and putting them instead of the stock cooling on this board. If the heatsink in the PW area is also tall enough it will get some air from one of the two fans of the Ultra 120 and it will really reduce temps. This combined with a bolt-on fit and the other fan at the rear of my case should reduce temps drastically ... I'm thinking aluminium instead of copper. Any comments on this idea?

BTW, after hours of normal pc usage the PW area temps are 52 Celcius (bios reading)

i think gary was weighing all those P35 boards to come out with a clear winner....it looks like he gave abit a chance to produce a good bios to go along with a great board...i am seriously considering a QX9650 on my Pro board.

why would anyone upgrade from a q6600 to a qx9650? I dont understand what the benefit is? i understand less power,smaller size.overclocks better and more cache but do you really think it will be worth upgrading from an overclocked q6600? im just curious ....

here you go!...the WHY!...a QX6850 up against a QX9650.

I'm also considering the QX9650 chip with this board. I'm loving the board (although I just can't control these crazy high PWM temps) and I'd like to hope it will work well with the QX9650. I don't see why it wouldn't considering the Q6600 requires more juice.

The huge price tag will be very difficult for all of us to take but the potential *almost* 1.0ghz improved OC is a big jump and may make a lot of us jump on it. I'm running safely at 3.3ghz now with the G0 Q6600 and the thought of hopefully having a 4.3ghz OC makes me drool.

I know, I know you are thinking in your head that the OCs we have seen have come from ES. I highly doubt that the premium silicon used in the QX line will be any different than the ES silicon. They both come from the very top of the pile.

If you're feeling lucky like me , you can give abit flashmenu a go. Just make shure no other programs are running and you're not overclocking.
Just select the 'upgrade from file' option.

Well, this board has a function in the bios to turn off the floppy controller! You learn something new every day, I guess :P Floppy works fine now.

@ Siggie: Well, I've used FlashMenu ALOT in the past in the NF2 days where a new modified bios was out every day. And I never had any problems with it back then. I keep hearing bad things about it now though, so I thought I'd just avoid it. I need the floppy to install RAID in WinXP anyway.

Uhm.. Am I supposed to rename the beta bios file to .bin? I tried flashing it as it was, (.B01) and it didn't work. Got an error when the program tried to access the file. I think I did everything else correctly (Followed Ace-a-Rue's guide). "The error was: No M629B_16AT.B01 or you may have not execute the .exe file to be a .bin file yet. !!! Flash Failure !!!" What a cryptic error!

Edit: I tried renaming the file to .bin, and no difference. What the hell am I doing wrong?

you can not be any longer than 8 alpha-numeric characters in front of the extension.

Duh! I just used the original name. How silly of them to name it something that won't work.

So the file is supposed to be called .B01? Never heard of that file extension before.

the beta bioses have that ie beta1 = .b01 , beta2 = .b02

finals end up with either .bin or .awd

i could never get beta 16 to work correctly, so i just gave up and flash back to 14.

I have next problem. I want set FanEQ control. I tried diferent setings with CPU FanEQ Control, but everything is same-CPU cooler has maximum rpm:-( I tried Sys FanEQ control, but here is same problem-regulation doesnt work:-(

Oh, and how hot is too hot for the PWM area? It reached 82c under prime load at 1.46v, 3.7GHz. Gave me a warning in uGuru, so I guess that's too high, haha. I've replaced the pins with screws so I think the contact is ok. Guess I'm gonna have to place a fan over it as well.

Hey guys. I'm kinda thinking my issue is just that I reached the limit of my particular E6750 CPU. But wanted to see if anyone has any additional thoughts.

My FSB seems to be limited at 456MHz. My CPU does 8x456MHz just fine with 1.49 volts. I've tried lowering my multiplier to 6x, but I'm still limited at 456MHz. 458 and 460 sometimes gets me booted into Windows and a few seconds to a few minutes stable. But anything more won't even post.

I was using a Gigabyte P965 DS3 board for a while with this CPU with his same FSB limit. I then bought the IP35 Pro a couple days ago and am seeing the same limit.

With the IP35 Pro. I've tried the following voltages.

CPU Core Voltage 1.65
DDR2 2.1
CPU VTT 1.23
MCH 1.37
ICH 1.12
ICHIO 1.65

I've used really loose memory timings while testing my FSB, 5-5-5-18-42 1:1 ratio. And I already tested the memory and know it's good for quite a bit more speed.

All the CPU features are disabled as well, thermal control, limit cpuid maxval, c1e, etc.

Any thing else I can try?

Also about the heatpipe mod. I was going to do it, but after I removed the heat pipe, I saw that the PWMs were all making perfectly flat contact with the thermal pad, and the two chipsets were making good contact, so it looked like I really looked like I didn't need to mess with it. And I have Antec SpotCool fans cooling the memory and NB heatsinks.

My PWM is getting to about 50C, and system 31C, so seems okay. Do I need to mess with removing the thermal pads on the NB and PWMs heatsinks and replacing with Ceramic?

Those pwm chips on the left don't look like their making good contact but I don't believe thats the root cause for poor OC.

Edit: btw I think you need to be really lucky to get a 'great' E6750 these days. I bought one and it didn't do really well either and my E6600 just blows it away. I did a bunch of testing on my E6750 and you can see my results here>>>http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=129574

Thank you. I strapped a 40mm fan on to the PWM heatsink and temps dropped over 16c! It's at around 66c under prime load at 1.48 vcore (real) 3.7GHz. Amazing what a small fan can do!

I actually am having the same problem. I just upgraded to BIOS 14 from 11. All the fans operate at full speed even though I have the settings the same as they were in BIOS 11 when everything worked just fine.

I'm using the current uGuru. Should I reinstall?

Ace-a-Rue: I just did the heat pipe mod in your sig, and I have a question. On the P35 chipset, there was a thermal pad in the center and a white pad around it (possibly another thermal pad?). Well I removed the both of the pads and applied MX-2 to center of the P35 chipset, ICH9R and the 12 PWM. Is it ok to have removed the white pad, or should I have left it there? I stuck it somewhere safe and I could put it back later if necessary.

BTW, I have not powered the board yet, it arrived a few days ago and only now I'm fiddling with it. I'm still missing ddr2 ram and a video card before I can put everything together. I have fans I will affix later on. Thanks for the detailed guide, It helped me out a lot (pictures ^^) :up:

I believe the white padding around the thermal material on the NB is to protect the core from being crushed. Removing it shouldn't hurt as long as you don't overdo it when tightening the heatsink down.

Thanks. I used some of your voltages from your link there and tested a bit more. But it didn't get my past that FSB wall. Drat. I guess 3.65GHz is the best this E6750 will give me.


Regarding the heatsink mod. I'll probably wait 4 weeks before I mod the motherboard. I just bought it and want to be sure I want to keep it before I make any unreturnable changes to the board. :)

But I was wondering. Is there a reason why nylon screws were not used? I went ahead and bought both metal and nylon screws and bolts for when I do do the mod. Hopefully the nylons will be strong enough and will provide some safety.

I trying to run with 4 1GB memory sticks. I have version 1 of the ABIT PRO board with bios ID:14. The system boots and runs fine with two sticks of either Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 G or with two sticks of Crucial Ballistic BL2KIT12864AA804 - at the called for 2.1v (or 2.2v), but when I install all 4 sticks I get a failure on the optional extended memory test in the boot process. (The memory listing part of my Signature isn't correct.) I'm using a E6750 processor at only 333MHz for now, and with the 1:1 multiplier, the memory is only running at 666MHz, so I'm not even pushing it beyond stock.

Is running different brands of memory the problem? Or are these boards have a problem with 4 sticks of memory?

If I need to buy additional memory of the same type that I have, would there be a preference for one or the other?

I'm running Vista Home Premium in the 64-bit flavor.

Yeah I had a lot of problems with my E6750, it wanted a lot of voltage to run fast and was reboot happy!:down: :shrug:

Another option other than bolts, which is what I've done on my board, is to put washers under the springs for the push pins to put more force onto the heatsinks. Either way you have to remove the board because you can't just yank the pins out.

Try more vMCH like 1.37v or so and see if it will work. You shouldn't really mix brands but a few things I'd do are boot up with only 1 pair of the same brand and then set the timings and voltages manually so spd settings won't cause an issue and then use all 4. Put one brand in the blue slots and the other in the black slots.

When you set the voltages and timings use values that will work for both brands.

I think it's more to keep the hs from rocking on the small NB chip to ensure even contact. Leave it on.

Has anybody else had one of the network adapters die on them?. Out of nowhere last night, one of mine just quit. Windows says it is working correctly but cannot see a network. My router show no connection. Hooked the cable to the second adapter and it did work. But the first one is dead.

I'm getting some annoying lock-ups while priming on this board. It primed for around 3 hours then just hard-locked right out of the blue. I dunno if this is normal on these boards, but on my old 975x board prime just failed if the overclock was unstable.

Any tips?

well to be sure i have good temps with the white rubber pieces on but i know the temps could be better without those retarded pads. i say try it with the pads if the temps arent low enough for you try without the pads my temps are pwm 39c at 3.8 gigahertz overclock

I was running uGuru, but I can't remember if I was running CPU-Z. Why, is this a known issue? I mean it was stable for 3 hours. I didn't touch anything when it happened.

Yes its a known issue but usually happens with in the 1st minute of having both programs open. It's only with cpuz 1.41....older versions are ok. You can edit the config file for v1.41 to stop the problem...see 1st link.

If you didn't have them both open at the same time I'd be looking at memory voltage or vMCH maybe. Hard to say. Run memtest86+ test#5 and see if it errors.

Turn off psu for a few secs and the fans will operate again @ the set speeds.

I run into a weird issue where if I use multiplier of 8 and the computer goes to sleep, when I touch the keyboard, the system seems to power up but nothing displays on the monitor. I have the Num Lock key on but the light is not on either. It happens at any speed. This doesn't happen if I use multiplier of 9. Have you guys seen this? I don't know if this makes a difference but I use vista ultimate and the board is version 1.10.

Is 70 C on the PWM normal for this? It blows my mind.

Edit: Shame. It seems my motherboard can hit 475 MHz on FSB with my RAM and MB ok. CPU is a G0 Q6600 dies about 3.4. Can do a 2 hour PrimeStressTest on 3.4 but dies above it. Sigh!

Edit2: Massive VDROOP was a problem. didnt realise. Ive upped the VCORE and now its more stable.

There's something weird going on with my system. It just hard-locks out of nowhere. Today I wasn't even running prime, I was watching a video on google video and it just froze completely. It's so weird when prime and memtest seems to be perfectly stable - except when prime decides to hard-lock as well. I've clocked down a bit to see, but this is definitely weird.

i notice your using a creative x sound card & 4 gigs of ram, this where u probs could be, loads have had simaler probs, creative released new drivers to fix this, maybe be worth ago, if u think everything else alright :)

I've heard about that issue, but one of my dimms died, so I'm running 2GB now while I'm waiting for the new kit to arrive. I'm running some older drivers though, so I'll definitely give those a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

With the new PCI express 2.0 cards coming out, which aren't compatible with the 1.1 slot, I'm gonna have to sell this motherboard. Jeez, it hasn't even been 3 months.

Pci-e 2.0 is compatible with 1.1, no problem between p35 and new gpus.

Well, first and foremost, did you uninstall, reboot, then reinstall? (May not hurt to re-download it just to make sure your install isn't corrupt.)
If not, try it.

If so, uninstall, reboot, set BIOS defaults, and reinstall it again.

I haven't had any issues with uGuru myself, but these are the steps I'd try.

Hope this helps. uguru v1.04 downloaded from the abit website does not work with the IP35 Pro rev 1.1 bios 14 I have. uguru v1.05 included on the CD that came with the motherboard does run although CPU temperature is about 15 degrees less than what the utility coretemp v0.95.4 shows.

Agreed. I had the full-speed fan issue when I flashed to the 14 BIOS and a power-down of the PSU plus a CMOS reset with the PSU off fixed the problem in a jiffy. The back-panel CMOS switch is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Me too. Version I downloaded would keep crashing. My good friend Mr Internet suggested I use the CD version instead. That know it all bastard was right again. :)

I had another issue where my cpu fan always run at full speed. I tried to clear the cmos to see if that fixes the issue. Now when I look at the CPU VTT values there are only 2.0 and 2.3. Before I cleared the cmos, there was 2.0, 2.3, and 2.7. Does anyone know how I can get back the 2.7 value? Thanks.

After the reccomended settings from Ace this board seems stable now. I'm running 4X1gb crucial ballistix pc6400 at 5-5-5-12 with a 2.150 from bios and on page 131 I've just changed what Ace told me. PWR temp area doesnt exceed 60C on full load cause I have quite good airflow in the case.

A friend (Gomar) on the greek overclocking forum "thelab" did the vmod to reduce the vcore drop. 1.55 on bios gave 1.55 on full load with a quad. Before the mod he had a drop of 0.1 volts!!! (1.60 gave 1.49 on full load)

If anyone wants more details about this I can ask him to post pics

Hey, could you list these settings? My RMA'd RAM comes in tomorrow.

Also, I have an "unknown device" in the device manager I can't figure out what is. It says it's on the PCI bus, although it can't be on the physical PCI bus as I only have my soundcard and a wifi card in there. It pops up both in Vista and XP. What is it?

yes, he did johny bravo's mod. He used a variable resistor of 1kohm set to 680ohms at the beggining and then he started lowering the resistance value of the trimer until it was stable. He doesnt know for sure whats the value now of the variable resistor set at... Have in mind this was done with a quad. Settings may be a bit different with a c2d since the drop isnt that much with a dual core

Couple of days ago i flashed my IP35-E with 1.3 bios, and i had some strange problems with my system, stange freezeup and so on. Then i realize from some reason my memoryvoltage was locked to 1.93, and increasing this from bios didnt help at all, it was still locked to 1.93. Reflashing didnt help, so i flashed 1.2 and now it works. I hope that ABIT can fix this :shrug:

have you installed the INF Intel drivers after you installed your windows OS...most likely that is the SMbus controller.

I have the following setup which i have built for a customer at work...

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850
Abit IP35-PRO (Latest bios)
Chaintech Apogee GT PC8500 4x1gb (Link)
Antec Atlas (550w PSU) Link
Samsung 320GB SATAII
Samsung 20x SATA DVD-RW

OK, i have installed windows with 4gb and it was all fine...
i then reboot after i finished installing all the latest drivers etc and i the computer freezes after about ~2mins.

i then decide to run a memtest with the 4gb, and it errors like crazy after about 30mins..

I have

- upped the volts from 1.8-2.1v
- changed timings to 5-5-5-12
- ram is running below spec (ddr812)
- upped mch to 1.29v
- tested 2x1gb kits for hours (both kits test fine by themselves)


I have no idea wat to do, this is urgent and im all outta ideas :(

Have you tried to memtest each of the DIMMs individually? If not, I would - using the same DIMM slot each time.
If they all pass individually, next I'd start to populate the additional slots one-by-one until you find the where the errors are coming from.

Also, what version of Windows is installed on it?

32-bit or 64-bit Windows? Reason I ask is that you won't be able to utilize all 4GB due to Windows only being able to allocate 4GB of addressable memory space (which includes video memory).

Now when testing each stick, did you also test each DIMM slot? It might not be the sticks.
What I would do is test each DIMM in the first DIMM slot (is it listed as 0 or 1? I don't remember with RAM...). As long as each DIMM tests okay in that one slot, you know that slot is good.
Next, as long as each DIMM tests okay, I'd take one DIMM and test it in the next DIMM slot (still only using one DIMM at a time). As long as that DIMM passes, move on to the third, and if that one passes, move onto the fourth.
If all four DIMM slots work okay being populated singly, next step is to populate them in pairs; start off with the first "Dual-Channel" set (1 & 3, IIRC) and test them. If they pass, add one to DIMM slot 2. If it passes, add the fouth. If it doesn't pass here, yank out DIMM 2 and see how 1, 3, and 4 run together.

I know, there might be a lot to it, but this is the route I'd try to isolate them.

Ok, thanks alot for that info, i'll give it a try today..

its winXP pro sp2 32bit, and yeh i understand that 32bit doesnt support 4gb memory, the problem is that this is all being tested in dos (memtest)

bak to the supplier these ram sticks go..

btw, if you want 4gb of ram on this board I'd be looking at two 2gb sticks and not four 1gb.;)
