Yup...nice kit. Ran them on the RE III @ 2200 8 8 8 24 no probs. They currently sit in my home rig eVGA 759 Classy 2000 and change @ 7 7 7 20. Thats a much better price than when I bought them. Go for it!!!

Thanks for all the advice.
I managed a stable 222 BCLK by increasing the pcie to 103 and increased the ioh and ich voltages.
I tested Bad Company 2, Crysis, 3dmark06, And Heaven Benchmark. And all run fine except for micro stuttering in the heaven benchmark while msi afterburner is enabled. :(
guys, what version BIOS is the best for aircooling? And what for LN2? Thx.
I got them three days ago, and got 980X two days ago, so didn't test much, as I'm more interested in CPU now. :D
Hi Albrecht....I originally thought they were PSC but haven't looked under the hood. Fooled around with them a bit before I left for KSA...will be home Sunday (Allah willing). :D
Was impressed by what I was able to do with them in a few hours. Will explore more when I get home. The Xeon 3565 I bought second hand lets me run high uncore, just doesn't clock that well under LN2 so made it a home chip. :yepp:
Let you know when I'm back in the real world.
anyone running memory 2:12? Whenever I try I get first led flashing on post which seems to happen when uncore is too high... im trying 133 2:12 uncore x24 :D any help is appreciated
Which bios Splave ? Have to hookup the REX III tonite to finish the review...
1005 bios
Seems to work here : Bclock 133; 3600 uncore 2:12, 2:14 and 2:16 boot straight to Win7 (0704 bios)
http://users.telenet.be/OAP2/splave.jpg
1.35 for the i970 set there, could be lowered prolly... ( I don't know if these are stable, but at least it boots into windows7 ) Didn't touch Vcore either ( voltage for 4.2 priming for the waterblocks)
damn I cant even boot that, thanks for checking mate
Congrats on the new hardware donmarkoni, how's the OCing going on the 980x?
She is a beautiful piece of hardware :)
Can you do me a favor, when you get a nice OC will you please post your BIOS template? I'm currently running mine at 4.2Mhz for a 24/7 cruncher, but when I get my farm settled (5 other mahcine for WCG) out want to see what she will do and I'll admit I'm not the best at OCing and actually very poor at it when it comes to the memory.
Hey guys ...
Just received my Rampage III's and a i7 950 Cpu today :)
I tested the cpu and has a very nice low vid 1.15V only.. Hope this one can clock well for low volts

Urgent help needed: i'm running windows 7 x64, bios 1102 and i can't recover from sleep mode. When i put my computer to sleep, it goes to sleep - no prob with that. But when i try to wake it, it powers on (everything seems to be rnning ok) but there is no signal comming from the vodeo card to the monitor (power diode is blinkig as in sleep mode). I have to manually power it off, then turn it back on again. then the message "resuming windows" appears as if resuming from sleep. It's really frustrating. I've tried playing around with different biod setting but so far nothing worked for me. I have all cpu power saving features disabled. Any ideas? Any help will be much appreciated
Any ideas why my cpu qled indicator is turned on? I just changed my 980x from an msi xpower to my new rampage extreme 3 and the Qled is marking cpu....any help would be greatly appreciated.....all my rig is completed and does not boot, doesnt show display doesnt do anything...the cpu was fully functional i don't know why is marking that component... Thanks
Thank! :)
Thanks! :) This 980X "feels" better then 970, yet I just started OC'ing it. IMC is of identical quality as my Xeon W3540, and that is a good thing, cause it needs only 1.4125V VTT in BIOS (~1.4V according to Everest & DMM) for UnCore @ 4000MHz. Concerning raw speed it needs less vCore then 970 but more then W3540 for 24/7 use (Folding@home). For benching it needs lowest voltages I ever seen, but I still didn't test it much, so I'll see how it scales.
No problem, I'll send you couple of templates, as soon as I get a grip of things a little. Remind me by PM in a week or so if I forget, as I'm preoccupied with work. Don't hesitate to remind me, I am willing to share setting, but I'm forgetful. :D
Thanks! I bought it as "a good batch" and it does "feel" good. Passed 3DM06 @ 4.6GHZ 1.4V vCore w/ HT ON, but failed CPU test in Vantage. It was after less then hour of testing, so I hope to see some even better results on water when I get to know it better. Now testing some 24/7 settings, but will be benching for the weekend, probably in the cold of the night.
Now when I got Extreme CPU, I'm thinking of going subzero. :D
This is the "old" result I mentioned above:

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/1...980xsmallk.jpg
And now results of some benching I did last night:
3DMark06 @ 4.74GHz http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/banner/1443942.png (sorry for the s/s with dropped multi, I wasn't paying attention when I took it)
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6...1980xsmall.jpg

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/257/3dmvp28744.jpg
I could probably do Vantage run @ 4.79, but I didn't and went asleep. :D
I need something to do tonight. ;) Maybe @ 4.84GHz http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/banner/1443972.png
Hmm. Whats the proper way to test the VID on the 980x? Set everything on auto, and put cpu under load with prime and then read voltages? 4000mhz Uncore seems like a target I need to reach.
New 24/7 clocks. I must say this chip + board is a great combination.

AFAIK, there is no default VID for i7 CPU's, cause Intel never provided/written a register to read VID. You can check in Real Temp thread thread, there was a discussion about it and unclewebb explained it. IIRC, 1.15V is default w/o turbo mode, and 1.25V is default with turbo mode.

Uhm :D Nice chip You have, almost 6.4GHz for lite 3D, what about 06 or Vantage ?
Not to high vdimm for this ST ; 1.8v for only 966MHz cas 7

nice tsan :D batch code?
Hey guys !! .. just got this motherboard today and i am LOVING IT .. kindda trying to decide if i wanna buy water block for the board and more tubing and fittings, did anybody notice any difference after water cooling the board ?
also what would be the most stable BIOS for the board so far ?
thanks for any insight you can share

EK full cover waterblock + HF Supreme cooling a 4.2Ghz i970
Still on 0704 bios here... (might not be the fastest but got no issues with it...)
The EK fullcover block is good, i have it also since yesterday :)

before i used a fuzion waterblock for the heatpipe but the fullcover gives over 20°C lower temps :)
Just finished finding my stable 24/7 overclock. Like everyone else I am absolutely loving this CPU/mobo setup :)
LinX 20 Pass + SuperPi 32M Stable: i7-920 @ 4.21GHz with 6GB Dominator GT 2kC8 (Hyper MGH-E) @2005MHz CL7, MSI GTX470 (Stock)
http://hostthenpost.com/uploads/8795...15675bdb4d.jpg
ok, you saw a big difference between 970 and 980X (or is it just for fun :D)?
For me, the 0011 is slightly more stable than the 1102 with the same settings (I continue to experiment with the 1102)
I'm interrested by your settings for the 980X in 24/7 (when it's done ;))
Just for comparison sake here's some memory benchmarks at 1066MHz (ALL stock), 4.21GHz @1600MHz, and 4.21GHz @2000MHz
Starting from top left, going down:
2.67GHz @1066MHz 8-8-8-20-1N
4.21GHz @1600MHz 6-6-6-18-1N
4.21GHz @2000MHz 7-7-7-20-1N
4.21GHz @2000MHz 8-8-8-24-1N
4.21GHz @2000MHz 7-8-7-20-1N
http://hostthenpost.com/uploads/aba9...6c6129675b.png
Well, I did saw a big difference, at least between my two chips. I guess it should be that way, cause 980X IS top of the line.
I had two random lockups today, while testing 24/7 settings @ 4.4GHz (unCore 4GHz, RAM 2280MHz). Could be BIOS. I'll try 0011, as it is my preferred choice.
I'll share settings once I finish testing.
As I said back at i4memory, very interesting to see 8-8-8-24 being faster then 7-8-7-20.
Does Anyone know how much current draw the fan connectors will take... I just ordered 2 120mm San Ace Fans that put out 137cfm for my Corsair H70... The ones now only put out 33cfm!!!
I need some more cooling power... Just don't know if the fan connectors will take the load of 890ma?
Can't find the specs anywhere... Anyone know?
Thanks,
Royd RAGE
Just recently upgraded from my trusty q6600 and an old 780i mobo, I have to say I love this board already,
Only third time to boot since install and the 930 fires right up to a 4.5Ghz clock and stayed there solid for best part of the day.
Later while exploring the bios I accidentally rebooted to a 4.7Ghz clock  no wonder it felt snappy, neither cooling or vcore or any other v! was not ready for that so fixed it quick.
Cooling wasn't tuned for 4.5 / LinX heat either. Fairly soon after 100% LinX load at anything above 4.2 with 1.35v cpu & 1.4 QPI or above the cooling collapsed and the test aborted,
need to work on getting more gas.

All the great things of this board that i just can't get over, yet the bluetooth needs ditching lol
Just asking around if anyone here using the i7 980X batch 3020A476 with this board here. Want to know how this batch perform. thank you.
before:D
after:D:ROTF::rofl:
nice :P what did you change besides more vcore?
I could use some advice plz ppl !
over the w/e I was having trouble booting, the post cycle would start in the normal way but just as the system was counting the ram it would stop and a second or 2 later try again, it did this some time back but fixed itself so I didnt really worry about it.
so the obvious thing to do was try different ram, no joy, so then I tried to figure why the primary psu was dropping out, couldnt see anything obvious so I changed it with a spare, still the same, also switched off all pci lanes apart from lane 1, no dice.
now with everything back the way it was I have a complete non start, all the leds sitting there ready but no fans, no psu fan, no post nothing at all, I can jump start both psus no problem by bridging the 2 pins.
luckily I held onto my RE2 so Im building that back in for now and I guess Ill have to RMA.
has anyone experienced similar post issues to this b4 ?
cheers guys
Rick

maybe try xp? display drivers?
I just cant get it to run bclk 215.. i went up till 1.72 qpi and still it needed more.. funny thing is it doesnt bsod 124.. but just freeze ! My cpu sux !
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/7995/test1oy.jpg
You think Dom7184? And raise any PCIE volt?
Tnx for helping
nope no need, just pci-e. :D
no freeze anymore but keep getting bsod's 124 en 101.... got up to 1.55 vcore en 1.75 qpi.. Im scared >_<
have you tried a higher IOH voltage (1.15 - 1.25v)?
i need ~1.22 - 1.25v for stable 228MHz BCLK.
Edit: this was @ ~1.2v IOH and ~1.4v QPI
http://www.abload.de/img/850-1700-21003dmark064aeih.png
but maybe your CPU dont like more BLCK ;)
Nice clocks Chri$ch !
Ill try tommorow with higher IOH..
I cant go lower qpi with my uncore that high... guesse i need to lower my uncore freq which means lower memory :/
bsod 101 is vcore
bsod 124 is qpi

I thought the website would be a good place to go for drivers, but it will not even load on Linux with Firefox or Chrome, in windows it wants me to install an Akamai downloader (which is not going to happen). I never would have thought that a company could have such a slow and down right crappy site! If you did not know the products you'd think it was a fly by night company.
The download FTP site on the first page has an incomplete list of drivers.
Just makes me sick,
ERIC
also interested in your 24/7 settings. i have a 3016 and it does not seem as good as my previous two (which were a 3003 and a 3013, from memory). unfortunately both of those died a premature death, never did work out why. both were overclocked by my supplier as part of a bundle, with fairly conservative settings (4.2G, 1.35 Vcore/Vtt). both rebooted suddenly (first one after about 6 weeks, second after about 6 hours!) and completely refused to post after that, appeared to take the mobo with them as well as supplier had to replace mobo and cpu first time, and mobo/cpu/ram the second time. the supplier had to set higher VCore for the newer one to run it at 4.2 (1.36 i think), i run it dumbed down to 4.0 at 1.30, though lately i did a windows 7 reinstall and it had some issues (windows update seemed to be corrupted somehow). having said that, that could just be windows 7 being rubbish, at those settings the cpu has passed 500+ runs of linx and days worth of prime 95.
just a quick question I cant find the awnser anywhere .
Im running two 6870 in crossfire and I want to buy a Pci-e sound card .
do you know if I add a sound card if all the pci-e slot speed will go to 8x instead of 16x ?
Thanks
Martin
test :D:D
Why so rude?
I have a similar issue with my SS. It just isn't tuned for the load. I tried LinX at 4.6GHz with 1.4V and it was able to hold the load for 3 or 4 minutes, then it crashed because temperatures became positive
It was able to 4.7GHz for Vantage and '06, though.
I was booting at 5GHz for my 2D benches as well. This was on my UD9, though.
Well I have not tried phase w/ the board yet. Ruffus is taking his time w/ my cascade. So I really don't know how well it really can go.
I needed a standard atx board that I could use 4 PCIe x16 slots and a PCI slot. It is the only one AFAIK that can, which is the main reason why I bought the board.
So we just got a test-computer to my work, and i've built it and now i was thinking about trying to overclock it a bit. It was very long time since i last was doing this (the time with the Opteron 144/146's)
The setup is:
mobo: Asus Rampage III Extreme (duh!)
cpu: i7 980x
ram: "CORSAIR 12GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I7 9XX PC12800 1600MHZ (6X2GB)"
So basically what i've done was i tried the standard modes in Rampage III bios, "Crazy 4.00" and "Crazy 4.20" and they booted and worked quite alright.
(Bear in mind that i haven't done any hardcore stability tests, just a fast test in the program we are using).
So i went into the bios and was thinking that i should try to tweak the setup a bit, as i absolutely not would like to hurt the cpu in any way.
So what i've done is that i resetted the bios, then i've made myself a small setup that im running now that looks like this:
CPU Frequency: 4200MHz
DRAM Frequency: 1503MHz
CPU Ratio setting (mutliplier eh?): 28
BCLK Frequency: 150
CPU Voltage: auto
CPU PLL voltage: 1.45 (standard was around 1.8 which seemed very high, and i read some on in this thread were people recommended to lower it a bit.
QPI/DRAM Core Voltage: Auto
DRAM Bus Voltage 1.6
These are the values that i've changed. (of course the auto values are standard).
What do you guys think? Would you like to see something more? How could i try to tweak my system even more, without risking anything? I haven't looked anything at memory timings etc, and i don't know if its necessary, worth etc.
And by the way, what kind of stability tests are there that i should run? As i said, long time ago i did this..
edit: Downloaded a pi-program from the forums, "y-cruncher" , when i run it the cpu goes to ~84 degrees celcius quite damn fast. I don't think this seems to be healthy at all, agreed? I run the standard cpu-fan.
edit2: LinX seems to be another good test, but i don't feel like running it if i hit these high temps!?
pci x8:D
