The GPU just didn't want to clock like it usually does but anyway. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=11128533 (only did 830/2050/2500 instead of the usual 850/2100/2500:shrug:)

My successful overclock on air with a Zalman 9700NT. My idle temps are around 34 and my full load temps is about 60.
thinking of getting a q9650 and hoping for 4ghz
are the recent batches/weeks overclocking ok
Thanks
im pretty sure they will all do 4.0Ghz
i can safely guarantee 4.0Ghz and higher with the UD3P/UD3R boards
Thanks. :) From the looks of what is in your signature you wouldn't have any cooling problems with more volts.
Thank you.:) The cooling is a custom watercooling system with a 240MM radiator. After 15-20 minutes of benching the liquid temperature gets high enough that it takes about a half hour of rest before it will run with any kind of stability.
Thanks man. I learned a lot from your various posts in this section.
seem to be having problems getting my Q9650 prime stable
it passes linpack at 4.05Ghz 450x9 @ 1.28 vcore
but core 2 fails prime within 2 minutes and ive tried going all the way up to 1.35v
NB and VTT at 1.36v
using a maximus ii formula
anyone got any suggestions?
thanks
Had my Q9650 disabled for a long time now.
I will hook it up tomorrow to get the 9.3 Super Pi back so you have some seconds to live for . I didn't save the entire pi run because it was a lousy run and never thought it would beet the World Record.
And XS erased my post of last stable OC (IBT and Prime95) 4700Mhz 1.39-1.40vcore. Too bad had some good pointers there.
Here, no tweaks, this is on regular Win 7 OS that I used daily (no wazaa, fresh install etc etc).
http://i42.tinypic.com/286v3f6.jpg
Thanks, catching that is going to quite the challenge.
I used the same clockspeed on a cut down XP and you still killed my time.

How to get this to run at 5GHz..Hmm...
The laughable advanced memory timings are the difference between a very stable 4.85Ghz and a rather unstable 4.9Ghz. For 4.85Ghz i could use Performance Level 11 and much tighter timings all around.:up:Code:Robust Graphics Booster - FAST

Holy crap! Sick FSB for quads! Well done, mates !
Hey guys,
Inspired by thebluemeanie1 I decided to go for the 7 Gold Cups available for Q9650 hardware: CPU-Z, PiFast, SuperPi, SuperPi32m, wPrime32m, wPrime1024m and PCMark05. I got 6 out of 7 so I think it's an interesting read for Q9650 owners:
Q9650 - 6 Gold Cups in one Day (conquering the HWBot HOF)
Very very impressive times with clock speeds to match. The CPUz, SuperPi 1M, 32M and PiFast are completely untouchable.(By me anyways)
Does going colder help with the FSB speed?
Once I saw your post I got right to reinstalling windows and running wPrime.;)
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...prime1024M.jpg
Hey Bluemeanie I see you have some backups
Well yeah those are still on the works I don't know what should I do to optimize wPrime, it's a new engine to me, I dunno how come my scores with hiegher ram speeds are lower, obviously I'm doing something wrong. I probably can get lower scores on Vista I only tried on Xp and W7 I would hate to format my PC right now...
The temps always helps but my SuperPi scores I did with water. wPrime1024m is a real cooling system test after it passes 80%!
I think I got the hang of it now:
http://i40.tinypic.com/33v16dh.jpg
Now I have to post 1024m.
Ah, very very nice.
You might want to try out Vista or 7. They seemed to perform quite a bit better than XP for me. Then again I'm not the one under 7.7 seconds.
Damn... nice work there. Maybe I could boot above 4.3 ghz if I tried giving it more than 1.41v but that is the highest I've ever gave it.
Nice results guys
Got my Q9650 two days ago, and the second it was out of the box, it got lapped :D
Nice and smooth, shiny surface to it, lapped my Tuniq Tower base as well.

Figured I'd dump this in here. Summer has arrived and my apartment is very hot inside with no air conditioning so I have been workin on a "low voltage" overclock to keep temps and consumption down.
1.088v idle in CPU-Z, 1.076 load.

After 3 days of running P95 small fft for curing I believe I've lost another 1C of maximum temps. Ambient temperature is 66F (18.888C). I've achieved these temps using Prolimatech Megahalems with two Silverstone FM122s in push pull config and a careful application of Shin-Etsu X23-7783D. Very happy...I've got about 8-9C drop vs my old cpu cooler, Xigmatech S1284EE.
Running 4.310 40 min blend stable now...but when I push cpu higher and my ram past 1200Mhz Prime blend throws errors within 5-50 minute. I've tried various mch core / ref settings with Cpu Termination of 1.34 and 1.36V but so far no luck. Using 2.50A as memory strap multiplier...any ideas?
Hi guys, just ordered a Q9650 myself...
Just wondering, how are the VIDs and steppings on the new chips right now? What are you guys getting? And do they have the same correlation to overclockability like Kentsfield?
I would run ya ram at 1066mhz region Kai, this way you can drop a lower PL on the P5Q Dlx, thus increasing ram performance big time (might require some more Nb juice though).
Vcore wise your CPU seems very average. 4ghz at 1.288 is not bad, but not brilliant either. Anyway very nice power to mess with daily ( me sniffs with my E7400 :p )
I am running my Q9650 with 4x2GB of RAM so I guess I will keep with the 0803 bios for now. I lets me stay at 4GHz with my 1066 ram at 1112MHz.
Anyone have a good starting template for the UD3P motherboard clocked at 4050? That's all the overclock I'm going for since I just want something 24/7 stable on air. I just got this board today and don't know where to start. I upgraded from an Asus P5B-Deluxe so there are many new settings.
Thanks
I wouldn't jump that far if I were you. At most, I'd try 9x400 first... it's easy, and usually doable on stock voltage.
I was running @ 4050 with my P5B for the last few months. Just took 1.4 vCore with that board.
What vid is your chip?

With those settings the system failed IBT. From the template you stated a DRAM Voltage of only 1.9 so I left the timings at 5-5-5-15. From this post http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=203292 for my exact memory they used 2.0 volts to run 4-4-4-12 timings but I don't know how to change the MCH/DRAM Ref accordingly. Just ran prime and core 3 filed after 1 minute.
Wasnt sure on your ram, so either use your old ram settings or auto for now. What prime test did you run, blend, failed on 1024k or 8k?

I ran blend. Will try those settings and will report back in a little bit.
Thanks
Those settings seem much better. Still failing IBT but it's getting up around 90 C. Running Prime for around 30 min now without any errors.
So far running Prime my max temps are 73C.
What were your temps with the core-contact when you were at 4.4? I'm also using a core-contact and I'm at 73C at 4.05.
Could only use CCF at those speeds and Priming when I used an A/C blowing on it. And also make sure your CCF is mounted the way is supposed too I think the fan should be pointing the back of the mobo not sideways (NB). If you search this thread on my Name and Core Contact Freezer you'll see my temps on winter with tit at 1.37vcore and 4400 where topping 73oC-75oC.
The way I mounted on that pic was wrong, I had best results with the CCF mounted with the fan facing the back of the case and not sideways.
Mine is mounted sideways also. It won't fit pointed towards the back. However my case has a exhaust fan out the top so I wouldn't think it would matter.
Here is a pic of my setup.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9931/img3648oxv.jpg
Yea your going to need to do something about those temps before youll get a good clock. Those temps are pretty toasty for that find of voltage. If your cooler wont fit front to back id atleast get a better fan setup or skip the BS and go water.
I also have a Zalman 9700, think there is any chance it would perform better. I'll have to look into a water setup, always been on air.
Just reached 6 hours prime stable. Will continue to let it run until tomorrow morning and see how it goes. However these are the same settings that failed IBT, but could be because of the added heat with IBT.
With your cooling the way it is now I wouldnt bother running IBT, its simply getting to hot to be stable with 90c temps. If it passes 8+ hours of prime blend id call it good and start fine tuning it to see what it really needs.
Nothing wrong with air, you just gotta do it right - I don't understand why you're into the 70s with that vcore. The Zalman is at least worth a try... I have one and when I was priming my Q9550 with 1.38 vcore the load temps never reached 55C. Are you using the correct tjmax value?
Well here is almost 15 hours prime stable. Yes, I am using the correct tjmax of 100C.

well already post it at the giga ud3p but would like to thank Jor3lBR , Hoss31 and thebluemeanie1 for the great help, i finally did the 4800+ bench i wanted it just needed more vcore

Cheers all
Most people here use 95C for tjmax - 100C is the default value in coretemp, but not necessarily the correct value. :p:Quote:
