Indeed, be realistic about what represents the average users system on XS or otherwise, intimating that the average "extreme user" would use a pair of D5's on a cpu+gpu loop is a bit insulting. An "Xtreme user" would use 2 loops, most would run one pump per loop, most users water cool the cpu only...
So which block would be best for an i7 920 and GTX 295 single loop with ddc 3.25 pump and monsta rad? Still the HK 3.0? Is the HK 3.0 LT basically the same as HK 3.0?
Any update on the unlapped CPU? Or isn't that going to happen?
I haven't done any further testing yet. In whatever thread it was that the GTZ-on-lapped-CPU-problem came up, I asked about possibly adding spacers and retesting. Or maybe I asked per mail and someone else asked in the forums. Anyhow, Gabe said that this wouldn't make a difference so I didn't retest.
My rig is now set up for testing radiators and so for the time being, I can't do further CPU block tests. Once I gear it up for CPU block testing again, I might do a few runs on an unlapped CPU. I can't guarantee anything, though and I certainly won't retest all 20 blocks on an unlapped processor.
Yup, I'd still go with the HK 3.0. And yes, the LT version is the same. The LC version is the one with less cooling power, so to speak.
Think: LT = Light, LC = Low Cost.
I have the modified mount system and I have lapped and unlapped (soon to be lapped) chips to test with.
Good stuff. :)
I think I'm not going to bother then, since your testing will be as thorough as can be anyway, if I know you. :)
Thanks HES!
I just wish Alphacool would have responded to my requests, would have been nice to include them in my testing. I will be releasing the results I ran on my lapped 965 soon and will roll right into testing all over again on an unlapped 920. I think I need to start buying TIM in 50 gallon drums instead of 30g tubes though. :D
Yeah I hear ya concerning the TIM. Don't TIM consultants sell their stuff in ridiculous quantites? I seem to recall tubs or barrels or something of TC grease. ^^
Also, I'll ask my Alphacool contact about this. Maybe USA isn't their target market yet or something. Maybe I can persuade them to send you a sample anyway. We'll see.
Heya folks well i need somes informations about Watercool HEATKILLER® CPU Rev3.0
Watercool got 2 models
Watercool HEATKILLER® CPU Rev3.0 775
and
Watercool HEATKILLER® CPU Rev3.0 1366
Question is ... is there difference between the models 775 & 1366 beside the retention brackets ?
does water blocks internals ares different or the same?
thx
The internals are identical, regardless of what brackets are used.
The 775 versions will have a tiny, removable plastic plate in the inlet barb. It's supposed to split the flow to hit the two separate dies on a Core2 CPU. The 1366 versions will have this plastic plate in the box, but not inserted. Either way, it can be removed or added.
I would really like to get a HK LT. My problem is that I am still on 775. Not looking to upgrade for another year, but, don't relly want to have to change my waterblock at the same time.
It looks like you could use different mounting plates on the same block, but, I can find no evidence of them beibg sold separately from the actual block. I am aslo thinking that I could get one for 1366 and just drill holes in it for 775. That may not be the best thing to do either, as it looks like 1366 is on the way out as fast as it came in.
Ideas, suggestions?
1366 mounting kit for when you need it :)

Very cool. This tells me that no matter what socket is King of The Hill in 2010, I shall ne able to switch my waterblock over. Now, there really is no reason not to get the block, other than should I.
Interesting review, would like to see wit nonlapped CPU.
Nice round up!!
Convinced me I need to upgrade my Apogee GT to a HK3 LC for my Q6600! :D
i will try HK3 LC or
EK Supreme LT Acrylic
This should get added to the Liquid Cooling sticky or martins/skinnees website as far as I'm concerned.
Awesome testing you did here HES.
