ima keep my opinions to myself because i know skinnee will be getting a sample of it.
So until then, i'll just say i have some mix opinions about this.
Because pressure (outside the bounds of the component's native pressure drop vs. flow curve) cannot be lost in an equilibrium system, you'll have one of two things happen.
1) the res will fill to max capacity and they'll behave exactly like serial pumps (water is incompressible). Though this is the case of separated reservoirs.
2) it'll just behave 'right.' The water leaving will have the pressure and flowrate of two pumps in serial since that's how they're arranged. Yes, even with that little gap between pump inlet and the feed-line's outlet, it works just fine. It's practically the same with the 'old' XSPC res tops.
There's a lot less voodoo in watercooling than is assumed :wth:
I have just ordered one, and it's stirght out onto the test bench when it gets here :)
Saw that but I was thinking it was plugs for G 1/4 fittings only not the DDC's.Quote:

No you can use it with only 1 pump :)

It comes with a pump plug like I said in the second post of this thread :)
You can see in the picutres one of the sides has a plug/oring on one of the pump compartments.
Can see that but it is the pump mounts not the bay mounts that worry me. Someone put it better than me - if the pumps run at slightly different RPM the vibration interaction is going to be hell on the acrylic hence need something to cut down vibration at the pump point
Few more pics to clear up some of the questions:

The res ships with 2x G1/4 metal blanking plugs for the threads as well as an o-ring and acrylic piece to seal off the 2nd pump mount.
Will get some nicer shots and illuminated shots up tomorrow. :)
I'd really like to see a comparisson between this vs two XSPC res tops.
Geez this thing is so convenient. Takes only 2 drive spaces! What's not to like about that?!? I would like to see this tested for sure and if it does (which I am sure it will) then this a nifty product to save space. I wonder what kind of performance this would bring to the table using a 'Y' fitting on the two pumps outlet? The only problem I can see happening is if someone put this right over a CD, DVD or BluRay Drive or anything else where heat can conduct into the bottom of the pumps or something along those lines.
Not really too worried about that myself as it shouldn't be a problem, transmitting to the case is a different story. ;) If 2 pumps mounted to the same piece of acrylic posed some sort of a problem, we would have heard something about it by now from all the ppl running the Alphacool Hardwareluxx or the Watercool dual tops.
Some interesting points were made which I hadn't thought of.
Thanks for posting all. :)
Dang, I wanted to answer this in my other post too. :shakes:
2 pumps feeding into a Y is parallel which increases overall flow but does very little if anything for head pressure. If this parallel setup were used for say, a K350, the results would likely disappoint the owner due to the pressure requirements of that block.
2 pumps in serial increase the head pressure but does very little if anything for flow. Again, if a serial loop were paired with a high flow block like a Sapphire, results would likely disappoint the owner due to the flow requirements of that block.
You have to match the block and flow to get the most out of the loop.
Well what Vapor is saying from what I understand is that if putting outlet 1 on inlet 1 would be not work, then putting 2 laing dcc with top res after each other would not give more head pressure either, which from what he is saying they should do. If it does I have no clue, I suck at physics :)
Has anyone gotten this yet? I am thinking about getting it, but I am worried about the shared reservoir since I am running two loops, one for 2 x GTX280's and the second loop will be my I7 920 overclocked.
Thanks
I don't think series will work with this one.
The first pump will have an inlet and outlet that are equalized in the same area, so there will be little to no resistance and that first pump will simply act in recirculation to itself (recirculating in a mini loop). The second pump will have two isolated areas of pressure, so I think running this in series outlet of Pump #1 to inlet of pump #2 won't work as you're thinking to get "Series" pump benefits. The only way to use two pumps with this is either in parallel with Y splitters (which isn't any good with watercooling with our high restrictions), or use it to feed two separated loops that share the reservoir.
I could be wrong, but that's how I think it will work.
We need to convince Paul to make the top reservoir two separated ones with two fillports. That sort of design should allow series on one loop to work right. It would also allow you to either use two different fluid colors, and/or allow you to run two loops with different water temps.
Otherwise I really like the idea, especially if those vibration dampeners work right.
Well, the description on the XSPC site reads:
"Dual 5.25 acrylic bay reservoir with two integrated Laing DDC tops. Supports one or two Laing DDC pumps for dual loops"
So, I do agree with you, separate "chambers" to feed each pump independently would have a been a nice feature.
Besides, so far all the dual tops I've seen tested performed worse than two separate pumps in series, so, unless XSPC has solved that conundrum, I reckon independent pumps is better.
Couple more pics, I changed the faceplate to a piece of silver brushed alu. to match the front of my PC777 (Snail), also put some 1/2" ID Compression fittings on to show that they fit with no issues.
