I just go my paycheck, what can i buy at the moment that will help me with this build? psu maybe? Gimme a little ebay link come on :D
cpu's ? ram ? hdd ? old video card ?
i am working on the psu, but i dont know the price yet. and they are located in hong know, i am trying to talk them into free shipping, lets hope :)
if you need cpus give palm54@charter.net a mail, and tell him you come from here, and i sent you. he should sell you opteron 8347 for 27.50$ each.
e-cyclepro3 has some lots of cheap graphics, i just won 31 random videocards for 32$.
Yea I guess I'll pull the trigger on ECC ram tonight. 4*1gb
I'll take a look at what e-cyclepro3 is when I come back from my gf's.
What a bunch of buggers, they only ship within the USA.. They had nice cheap 1u and 2u servers :(
16 x 13 inches.. itīs a serverboard and itīs a beast.. I doubt it will fit
will add you to the list :)

your perc controller made me drool.. ( not to mention all those hdds :) )
ainīt those 3200 way to slow for our setup? canīt tell if they would even run.. jcool must know
added you just in case.. if not interest do not hesitate to request deletion please
I would buy a kick ass psu. reasons? PSU īs rarely need to be upgraded and can always be of some use ( power additional hddīs , dvd, VGA, etc).
how about a compliant corsair HX?
sh. if I needed something to make me jealous was all this truckload of lovely hardware you just got that made it :P. congratz .. let us know about those VGAīs when they arriev :).
Any idea of a board to make 2 of our boards fit?
you have even been able to digg into the manufacturer of that PSU you are crazy like me :P
just a question: isnīt the psu 800 w?

I need registered ddr2, anybody has some to sell before I pull the trigger on ebay?
wasnīt there a local canadian selling some ram or am I being mixed?
No you're not crazy, he did talk about 1gb sticks of 667mhz being 18.25 a pop, but just after somebody mentionned 2gb sticks being available for 20-22$.. That's why I'm wondering about the deal
You guys need any more help with this? What's the buy-in per person?
I'm pretty sure it's Duh that will be buying the boards. I can't tell though if he wants to take charge for all the stuff we bulk order.
Some other bro (sorry it's late, can't remember) took charge of the cpu's (somebody already ordered his) but I'm not sure we were going to group buy the cpu's.
the psu's, we're not set on that.
The memory, we're not quite set on that too even though somebody got us a rebate, but maybe there is a better deal out there.
the heatsink, not set on that too.
In retrospection, I bed he'd love help ;)
Sorry, I didn't read all nine pages yet. What mobo is it and what CPU requirement is it?
its a arima quad socket f board, its not standard atx or anything, so psu is "special" but can be wired to work with normal psu's, it takes 4 opteron 83** cpu's, there is an option for the 1.9ghz version called 8347 for 27.50$ each. ram need to be ecc reg ddr2 at around 667mhz. dont know if the 400 mhz will work, jcool ?
hope that helped you it.
In every Stacker or just the 810?
Just the 810 I think, thats what swayed me to buy that particular one.
just the 810...got myself one waiting for when I have the funds for a full one of those systems
where in the f did you find one?!?
somebody may be me :) . A doubt to wipe such statement would be to know what type of memos sammyīs have
yeah, we need to work on this subject. I am in the arse of the world. I guess we should create an account and that someone like MM has only access to it. Once everyone has sent the dough then the seller should be payed
please leave feedback on this matter
very good summary ( excellent IMHO) for such a long thread :)
--------------------------------
How about dividing tasks?
IE:
mobo stuff: me
psu options and pricings :
casing: eddieate
cpus: pawmadsen
memory :metalop1g
someone to help joining the dough : we could ask MM
someone to test the boards when they arrive:shoota
someone to investigate shipping rates to userīs countries ( parcels departing from the US to the world ):
someone to be the heatsink and backplate specialist:
this is just figurative ( it takes no commitment to the mentioned users, just depicts an idea to make things work in a more organized & efficient manner)
My idea is to help organize this buy ( in which I am only saving 25 bucks from what I was quoted ) BUT : NOT to TOUCH MONEY that does not belong me :)
i don't mind looking for power supplys but i need people's input. not everyone will want to mess around with wiring a standard psu. someone earlier mentioned they found the exact psu's for this board, maybe some guys would like those?
personally i don't want to buy anything until i have the board.
i think if we distributed the boards first everyone would jump on board much faster. what do you guys think about that?
I doubt the seller would be sending the mobos to the multiple places ( at least not with for a price we would like)
Count me in for one. Sounds pretty cool and cheap. Maybe we can do another buy later on...make this a semi-annual ritual or something.
Can someone post a model number for the board. It seems that the Arima TW site is down.
I agree....never had my own quad socket board. I used to drool over the Tyan quad 486 boards back in the day.......pr0n!
alright i'm ready to buy the board. who's gonna test them all? :)
To Duh : I agree being the memory guy.
I might also look into heatsinks and backplates but I have no experience with amd heatsinks so there is probably somebody here that knows much more about it.
What we need to know about heatsinks is : max budget per HS, and FANLESS vs FAN-ASSISTED
I could be that guy, since the final exams end very soon.
Only probby is : I live in Canada.

^^ Check this out ^^
This looks interesting, I might join in when I can get some place to run this. When is the deadline for joining the buy?
it has nothing to do with this arima board we are trying to buy. except its a quad socket.. there are many of those :)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
the motherboard in this server is the same as we are buying, there you can gather alot of info of it, i am still waiting on a price on the powersupply from these guys, but he said that shipping is 80$ each, but i will try my hardest to get them to sponsor the shipping for us.. but i am not sure it will happen.
Don't worry mate, my engrish is kinda bad sometimes!!
I got an idea.. people will LOVE this

Hi All, i recently joined the wcg team for the supercomputer contest, but i am staying.
If that system is reasonable ,
i might be interested in getting one to rock and roll with...
So i will read thru this whole thread, is there any updates as to total cost for MB, ram and chips
are there 4 cores per proc ?
I got more pictures and SPECS

By the way, the mem problem is solved : all 8000 series cpu's (BARCELONA) support ONLY up to DDR2 pc5300 (667mhz). Newer SHANGHAI cpu's might not work with the board (I can't tell) but these support up to DDR2 pc6400 (800 mgz)
Some guy named "404 - File not found", ya that's his name, has his rig up and running. He lives in quebec like me so i might have him to help us. Here is his system specs :
4x 8346HE, AM2 heatsinks, 8gb ddr2 ecc reg, Arima mobo, 88gs, 700W OCZ
EDT(16:55) : It DOES work with only ONE cpu.Quote:

Wow, I don't read the forums for a month, and look what happens. I'm all about this deal. Do I need to work out boards, cpus, and whatever else separately with different people, or is someone coordinating all that?
BTW, add me to the list, please. :D
and fanless on top of that
Translation for the German forum: link
lol, won't be too cool if there's power going to it! that finger will turn into a hot dog.
Ya some of that didn't translate too good. But for the most of it did. Didn't look like they found a solution for the power supply.
I'm not quite sure, but I think socket F is a gimmick. Many heatsinks can fit it.
- bolt thru s939 heatsinks
- bolt thru s940 heatsinks
- am2 / am2+ heatsinks

Uhh... that was an awful lot of searching/work to do when you could have just looked up the hole spacing in AMD Socket F whitepapers... Anyway, yeah, the 2-hole mount for socket F is identical to the old socket 754/939/940 2-hole mount (but, obviously, not the same as AM2... AM2 coolers will only work if you have one of the socket 754/939/940 retention mechanisms in place).
*edit* ...and I know because I've been asked probably ten or fifteen times since the launch of Socket F. Anyway, I might be down for one of those setups... maybe. Certainly a screwy form factor with odd power hookups, though. I wonder if it would play nice with Ubuntu...
metal you sure that yellow thing is gonna fit? it looks like the screws are in the wrong place. there should one in the middle on either side right?
well its not a cleche then, you really do learn new things every day :)
im glad someone had the right answer, i never thought it would have fit otherwise.
I have an old s754/939 metal backplate and a bracket too i think.
No but if I get a board I could verify if it works ok...
I could stick it on the copier and fax a few to you though
Woah....someone else that knows what a fax is! Ok back on topic!
back off topic, who doesn't know what a fax is? back on topic, i want this board on my desk NOW!
oh I could totally use one of these right now. With just one CPU...then like every two weeks buy another CPU and heat sink and RAM.
thats what i'm saying! we need more buyers
What makes this one so special? Why don't we get one that doesn't require a funky power supply?
I wish I could get it before all of you so i can test it and see what are our options. We def need a test system!
edt : it does NOT require a funky power supply. a regular one with good connectivity should do
But we are going to need to mod the connector right?
yep. what is it, any green to any black to jump the psu? i think that's right
Wow....we better get this right before we blow some boards up...
lol yeah i'm sure there are plenty of people who know how to jump a psu. i've done it before.
just googled: yep i was right, green to black
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/96712-...upply-psu.html
If any of you is member of hardforum, get a grip of this guy named File not found... HE can help us.
HE IS THE ONE
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7576/theonet.jpg
omg guys I'm off to bed
Uh...ya....that dude is crazy! He is relying on just the switch on the power supply when putting that paper clip in. Wouldn't be funny if the switch was busted....Ya i would have the power removed before doing this...just to be safe, Mr ADHD dude.
lol this is nice.. :ROTF: but I'm right here and there's a thread about this board in this subforum with all the instructions.
Yeah a paper clip works great, to be safe you can put electrical tape over it. EDIT: cut the paper clip in half first, not like in the link above lol
$35 for 4gb ecc reg ram:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I'm not using any brackets but these should work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
You need 3x EPS + 1x PCIE to power the board. Depending of what your psu has, here's adapters:
Molex to EPS: http://cgi.ebay.com/IDE-Drive-Molex-...item563c52c687
Molex to PCIE: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PCI-E-6-pin-...item4cef5a20e5
Refer to the other thread for how to connect this, it's hidden to new users tho.
Thank you for the info File not Found!
Yep I ordered some retention brackets to do tests.. Tu parle franįais j'imagine? I only need the board and a cpu now :D
The mem you linked to is a great deal even though it's not the max mem speed we could get.
Can we do a pre-order for those who will be testing? I want it before you all :D
i'm with you metal :)
hey File i think that thread got lost in a server outage or something but no worries when we get the boards we'll get it worked out. Are you sure that speed and configuration of ram will work? I was under the impression it had to be 4x1gb 667mhz..
Guys, how about we extend this to other forums? We'll have the 50 peeps more quickly.
If I understand correctly the cpu seller from ebay sells for a fixed price of $27.5, but doesn't need a group buy? We could all order separately, or maybe a group buy only for a Europe if that ends up cheaper.
Someone linked to $2.60 heatsinks on ebay, there's a bracket there too, I linked ram for $35. Adapters 2$ each. All that remains is the psu, which you can find in the $~50 range at your favorite online store or cheaper used.
It doesn't get any cheaper than this.
do you guys think that a "Corsair VX Series CMPSU-550VXEU" will be enough ? i dont want to over spend, since i am buying 4 boards. and the HX is 60$ more at my home shop. it does have a single 12v rail, but i know its not corsair best..
where's Duh? i want his input on all this. I think a cross-forum buy wouldn't be a bad idea as long as trustworthy people are involved. it doesn't look like that will be a problem though. File where do you live?
Montreal, but I won't be buying one.
Duh, have you talked to the board seller about multiple shipments?
Hopefully he can ship to multiple trustworthy users in US and one in Europe (or wherever else there's multiple orders) and then these people reship.
I think that's what we're planning on doing. Ship them to someone here in the states to test them before distributing them to everyone. We just need fifty orders i guess.
yeah I was proposing multiple users in US. It's gonna be a pain to ship 30+ boxes in US for one person. The seller won't be shipping all - lets say 30 US boards - in one package anyway, right? my 2 cents.
btw yeah, CMPSU-550VXEU is enough. Depending on your situation you can consider powering multiple boards with one psu. I did power an 8-core motherboard and this 16-core with one 650W psu.
I'd be up for 4x procs...can't find anything faster right now myself
just mail palm54@charter.net , he was the one i brought from, he has them on ebay at 42$ or something, but if mention WCG you should get it for 27.50 each. let me hear how it turns out :)
which procs were those paw? I was ideally looking for 8354 or better
Nice work on the collection of information and data.
Put me on the list for 2 boards then.
Yea I want duh to be back :P A cross forum would be perfect but we'd need the mods there to chime in and help us a bit with the selection.
Oh man I need to watch ncix and tigerdirect for a quality psu! ANYBODY HAPPENS TO BE SELLING ONE? :D
shopbot indicates prices from $1500 to $3000 lol. I think the procs you want are 100+ each
That's perfect man:clap:
i sent him/her an email about the CPUs.
How close are we to buying the boards? do we have a current buyer count?
i think we are in the low 30's so we need around 20 more people. and yes it would be perfect with 8354 or 8356 but those are jolly expensive compared to 8347, and they are only 300 and 400 mhz faster. and it gives it some ability to upgrade later, when the faster procs gets cheaper.
Alright then, put me down for a board, boost the numbers! Let's go more ppl! :)
Too cheap to pass up on that ram so that is snagged, thank! Gonna keep eyes peeled for a cheap dual F in the mean time, make a great test platform for these parts.
Oh, if anyone knows offhand: Will 8xxx chips work on dual boards?
they do
