oo cool, ian, i think i just miss read all of what you said  god dam delxsiea
I had to post another, I forgot the O ring last time!
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...4_1024x768.jpg
MIck, with that block, i think it would look good if you had the south bridge go into the north bridge, then have the other barb on the last mosfet and get rid of the rest of the block by the ram :), if you get me? But it looks fantastico :)
Yerp, thers always a reason why it is like that, i think it would look better that block if it was all copper and it had the inlets and outlets, near the same place on the side of the block then copper pipe taken it away from the block, that would look awsome :D:shocked:
Your idea is sound bentlya! I can't say that I have definitive reasons for the way my design has turned out. I just had an idea, which I pictured in my mind. I then tried to produce this vision as a render. There are probably many ways that it can be improved. I just hope it gives others some inspiration and perhaps something similar may actually be produced. I think the motherboard manufacturers should think a little more about the needs and wants of the water cooling comunity...;)
Sort of a mix between an Aqua Computer DI and an EK Supreme:

MEtric, that block is amazing, what materials was used?, what settings? what light?
Just playing around with this one now....

Here's a little WIP, duel mosfet for the Asus Striker Extreme MOBO, render is crud i know but o well. Just the first basic model more to come on this :)
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...fetTestOne.jpg
Woo hoo! I just got solidworks 2009 premier! i'll see what I can do about getting something modeled and rendered overnight........
Also, do any of you use solid works? Or is it a combo of Inventor and SU?
My Striker Extreme PWM block - MIPS and Bitspower style :hammer:

Metric, i haven't got a clue how to change settings, all basic settings. Would also like to know how to make acrylic edges glow like you have LED's in them. And a Derlin materail + brused aluminum that works ;)
WOW. thats amaing :) what settings was used they? and materials?
Well i know my design is not very practical but i have been having alot of fun with Max (This is the second time i am trying to use Max to render).
By the way the CPU Block was modelled in Inventor 2009
By the way some of the renders and designs here are amazing!!!!

Another Attempt at Rendering :)

:welcome: jonathankru. Nice renders!
Hope we will be seeing more of your work soon.
I think Metric is on the maxwell train with me now :p:
so unless you plan to switch over (which shouldnt be too hard theres a sketchup plug in) the materials wont really help.
Decided i suck at kerkythea now, so will move on to maxwell, if some help is provided.
But here's the 2nd revision in the duel mosfet block :)
Still a bit more to do but o well, and i'm starting to think i'm going from bad to worse on these renders :(
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...osfettest2.jpg
I redid the textures for my first cpu waterblock and started to mess with depth of field.
http://i41.tinypic.com/2h87l15.jpg
My acrylic texture sucks!!!! Anyone using Autodesk Max 09 to render ,i could use help on creating the acrylic texture?
quit drawing em and git to making em!!!
damn you with your eye candy...
:P
Yep, I switched over to Maxwell since it seems to have much better support material-wise (and better selection) and it renders multiple times faster than Kerkythea.
Evil, think you could send a 2D profile of your BP barbs (something I can revolve around a axis)?
jonathankru: What's the IOR for your acrylic material? It looks too low, increasing it might help.
Well here is another one. I am still experimenting with textures so it is not a very good render. Will work some more on the render later and update it when i am done. :yepp:

Kudus, to metric and evil once again, masters of maxwell, been playing for about 2 hours so far, i have lernt not much :( can't change material + can't install material download from the interweb :( Will try again tomorow night :)
heres are the inventor and solidworks files  sorry no sketch up version :p:
edit:
@bentleya;
depending on what software you choose to use will determine weather or not i can help you in the actual rendering. materials and such we can share no problem, over all setup of the renders etc are the same but work flow of each software is different. i render through 3DSMAX or use maxwell studio, tho i like the flow of 3DSMAX more.
it won't let me download it evil? i just get random smbyails come up on a webpage :(
right-click save link as
also recommend you use firefox, when i click the link it asks me if i want to DL
i use safari, try to keep programs to the least :)
3ds confuses me more, i don't get it you get vray, maxwell, mental, i'm totaly confused i have maxwell and 3DS installed, so what ever is easier to learn :)Quote:

It must be nice to be able to afford the Maxwell render. :( There's no way I'd spend that sort of money, unless it was for a business venture! :shakes:
well it takes years of work to learn and understand the work flow of 3DSMAX, some pick i up faster then others. personally ive been using 3dsmax since version 5.
what are you using to model?
its a good thing im in the business :p:
definitely there's no reason you should have to switch over, you seem to be getting rather proficient with what your using. I personally have never used it but id like to see different lighting from you
Well, here's my first attempt at a waterblock. I finally got the gist of SolidWorks, so I threw this one together last night. I know I don't have an o ring, mounting hardware, or screws and such but I think it's pretty good for a first time. I'm still getting used to maxwell and I'm having some trouble with the depth of field as you can see by the blurryness in some places. Well here we go! Please feel free to criticize and give me pointers!
@Metric: What material do you use for the copper in your renderings? Do you make your own or do you download them from mxmgallery.com?
Block Rev. 1
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/8b5c4faf.png
Do you need sketchup pro to render things in Kerkythea Echo?
The renders look AMAZING!
FrostyPanda: Yes, the copper is one I made myself. You can download it here.
hotwaxisbad: Nope, you only need the regular, free version of Sketchup to render in Kerkythea.
Many thanks for the Bitspower barb Evil

I threw this together earlier tonight. I'll post pix's of the top parts when they're done rendering...
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/c66676b6.png
( Dayam...it's really late........1:44, 1:45, 1:46......)
Also, thanks for that material Metric
Um......not really haha. I just thought this looked cool, it doesn't have to be super functional.
But then I couldn't use acrylic!
Here is what the final block part looks like. i didn't make the field of view big enough, but w/e. I'll make a mount for it when I get home from school.
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/57e7281d.png
Nice stuff guys, wow very cool, i would like to get into this, what program would you recomend for a total noob, thats not to outrageous in price ? i have lots of waterblock, and heatsink ideas i would love to render.
The completely free solution would be Google Sketchup and Kerkythea.
FrostyPanda: Great design. With your current pin structure, it would make more sense to use the same flow path as the Fuzion as PrometheusCon suggested. You could always have the middle section be made out of acrylic as well
@FrostyPanda - Loving that base design , you could also do a fusion style top like fitseries makes http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=215817
Been working on my "water cooling" case design. Made a few refinements and decided to show it without any components this time…..

That is really cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Mick - OOO looks a lot like a lian li but with watercooling mounts :) and more, Maybe make mounts for monsta rad :)
hey mick, whats the depth of that design (front to back)
Hi guys, i loove the topic, it inspires me. Your works are very nice :)
I've tried to render my old work but i didn't get the quality of yours. Which programs and settings you use?
My Solidworks Photoworks render:
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3681/yaamrcopyce3.jpg
I'll manufacture this block in a few days and test it.
Well time to jump into this thread. I found this thread amazing to say the least. I started reading this thread about a month ago and thought I would get into this rendering stuff. I already love doing Mods to my computer, my latest http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=216792 and the addition of a quad core over my E8500 was influenced by yes rendering. This is the best stuff to really get the most out of a high end machine. I am a product designer by trade and have used Ideas for the last ten years but now we have switched to Catia, a lot like Solidworks from what I'm told. I'm still learning Catia but have been doing CAD for almost 20 years now so making the switch isn't that hard. Catia has an integrated rendering software but it is very limited. Never heard of Kerkythea, Blender before this thread but over the last month I have tried to learn as much as I can. My first challange however came from Catia itself. Now my job is to build only designs that can be manufactured so I built my cpu cooler based off the D-Tek design to scale just to learn Blender and KT. When you take a very small part 3x3inchs into blender it didn't work to well. I also found STL files look like crap from Catia so I found that scaling the parts up 15x and exporting .wrl from Catia into Blender works very well if you use layers as it comes in Blender as all seperate surfaces. I then use Blender as an exporter really to get files into KT. I'm a one month Noob but I'm learning, lighting and Materials are my weakness so please understand. Ok enough talk now here are some pics.
Here is what Catia can do with its own internal rendering
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...ngs/newone.jpg
With KT I've gotten this far
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...gs/164blue.jpg
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a.../blacknone.jpg
I suck at stuff like this but I may just have to try it out and play with it :D
Nice , renders Mangofire and emir, look better then my ones, so your doing good as they your first ones :)
I have a question about Blender. I use the Blender2KT program which uses Python. Once my Catia data is in Blender I use the Kerkythea rendering to generate a scene file I can import into KT by itself. The problem I have is I want to change the output location of this file. It currently outputs the file to /user/local apps/TEMP. Does anyone know how to change this?
Hey guys i downloaded KT, im a complete noob, do i need a sketch program to draw my waterblocks, then import them into KT ? you can draw with KT ?.
Thanx for your nice comments guys.
Last design (hope so:p:). Manufacturing this saturday.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3538/1copybb4.jpg
@Mangofire your block is very cute with soft edges :D
emir what socket is that for? i need a nice cpu block for a am2/am2+ socket...
More tests :) got a bit of metric's style in it :) (hope he dos'nt mind)
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...osfettest3.jpg
bridge needs to be higher.
wont clear caps. Otherwise bei would of flushed both my nb/sb with the mosfet height.
trust me!
Well these next few renders from me don't look as realistic as my other one, but I'm still working out the kinks in my Maxwell skills....
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/ad209484.png
intersting mount there frosty :)
Haha I thought it was kinda weird also...but it works! I figured it went well with the rest of the geometricness of the rest of the block :D
Well...I was going to post another picture...but my pc crashed halfway through. I guess that's what I get for trying to render and encode video at the same time on an inadequately cooled i7 :bsod:. I'm gonna start another one before I hit the sack tonight......It's an endless battle between me and my computer.
Sir Crashalot: "Frosty....I...Am.....Your......................FA THER (well, at least, loosely speaking.......very loosely)!!!!!"
ME: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!" *promptly runs like hell*
Mr. Bluescreen (aka Sir Crashalot; promptly using another star wars quote): "I've got you now....."
Chipset Minions: "Sir, the Death CPU is active."
Sir Crashalot: *Haha now I can frack with his mind...Let's crash Maxwell!*
<moments later>
ME: Ah frick. Curse you red baron! (for this dialogues purposes, Sir Crashalot is the red baron.....hmmm, not quite sure how that works out, but w/e, its a rant :D)
Sir Crashalot: HAHA! VICTORY IS MINE!!!!!!!
:lsfight:
^this was to put an artistic perspective on my rant.
I'm terribly sorry for my rant; I'll delete it if you all prefer..... I'm rather irritated with my computer as you can well see. Just for an excuse, though, this all happened during my writing of a humanities essay, which I lost.........:am:.
Well I should get back to doing my spanish homework...not sure when that'll be, though. Ive still got an AP Spanish essay and radio notes to do......fiddlesticks :brick:...ugh. I hate AP classes.......
Anyways...to pertain to this thread...I'll be posting a picture of a better render of my block around 7 this morning. See you all then!
Here's some that I did manage to complete (before Sir Crashalot did his thang....)
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/7ea1e657.png
And a preview of what could be coming (aka crap resolution/quality)
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/54088088.png
WHY THE HELL AM I STILL UP!!!??? Sorry....I'm gonna leave now....:sofa:
I think you've got .......
Still more testing i like tests :) http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...osfettest4.jpg
I'm suprised Sir Crashalot didn't spazz out again.....
http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/9c9b5428.png
Another test On it, need to Change a few things, Bolts them ones look a bit crud, All copper But with a 1mm Brushed aluminum Top cover on top of it, Add threads, Add a few channels in the base, Name the block and then add etched Logo :)
But here's the lastest test on it
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...osfettest5.jpg
I've now created a thread for this design in the 'Computer Cases' section, but I though I should let you guys see the latest render....
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...e-mkII-05s.jpg
Loking good mick, beside the color :p:
Great lookin stuff guys, some ppls renders look amazing =O
Anyway... ive been toying around with sketchup and kerkythea this time with the help from metric... its not the most realist render but i think its pretty good for a second shot! haha... i wasnt able to get softer shadows... it may have been the ground plane i was using... i had the "Sun" set at softshadows... metric mentioned HDR lighting to me, but im still kinda confused on how to go about that... if anyone has any info that would be great :)
CPU block concept:
its kinda hard to see the other side of that block, but it looks identical pretty much to the inlet side (side most visible)
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1936/wb2bxz8.jpg
lemme know what u think :P
Found that HDR set I was talking about: http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5896
Your block looks nice, but the base seems really thick, you could probably reduce the height by 30%-50%.
FrostyPanda: Great design, but your mounting bracket seems too thin, and I feel like it would warp if I tried to mount the block
A little preview of my WIP. Storm remake anyone?
https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/2028/Xtr...20Inspirat.png
Cool thanks metric, i found some on the kerkythea site and have been rendering one which i used of of the globals... ill post it when its done.... ill start tinkering with these right after :P haha
You think its a bit to thick? its only 5mm from top to bottom , and the tickness right under the fins is .5mm.... ill try reducing it some for the next renders with the new HDRs ;)
Evil that looks amazing :)
Hi everyone, i made the block as i promised. But i used a temporary bottom part, i'll assamble the true one tomorrow. Tests coming soon.
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6129/1copybb4qk1.jpg http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3910/img4313vg8.jpg
k... well this is as good as i could get it so far... still need to work on the mats a bit i think and also the make the polygon count a bit higher cause you can see some flat areas on the curves =\ anyway... lemme know what u guys think ;)
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8385/wb2cjg9.jpg
very nice emir, how are you making those? you own machines?
Need to fix the clearance for the caps, but the basic idea is there (still some flow optimizing needs to be done):
https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/2028/Xtr...PwmPreview.jpg
evil, really liking the simple colors (esp. the blue o-rings), I'm curious on how you have your lighting setup. Is it just indirect lighting with a HDR environment or is there more to it?...
Metric great great great great work and a extra great :)
