Hey all,
I had my Q822A435 at 4.5Ghz/1.34v last night, but saw temps hit 83c in realtemp (jumps between 68c-81c) running OCCT. I quit after 1/2hr as i think this is too high even for short runs.
I have the bolt through kit for the S1283 and an extra 120mm strapped to it, is everyone finding these as hot running as me?:shrug:
I've tried my E8600 Q820A599 for almost 12 hours b4 givin it back 2 my fd. It's not gd result 4 such a great CPU 4 overclockers.

Well 1st of 5x E8600 Q820A599 installed on Gigabyte EP45 Extreme with new F6H bios. VID = 1.25v and seems to be around 0.032v vdroop on Vcore under load.
I don't think realtemp 2.72 and coretemp 0.99.1 read the temp sensors that well as they don't budge much from idle to load and I have same idle and load temps at 10x333FSB 1.25v vcore as I have at 10x400FSB 1.225v vcore!
Realtemp reports TjMax of 95C and Coretemp at 105C and Everest Ultimate 4.50.1482 beta's main CPU sensor tends to agree with Realtemp.
Only sensor that really changes under load is Everest's main single CPU temp sensor but then again it's the same idle and load temps at 3333Mhz and 4000Mhz :)
Who said E8600 were hot buggers ? :D

Is the first vcore I loaded windows in to test, so haven't tried any other vcore settings yet.
Room ambient = ~20C

Yeah, I also wouldn't be too keen much over 60+c for 24/7. I am sticking to 4.2 Ghz for 24/7 as the speed increase over stock is really great as it is. I'm sure it can go higher with necessary increases. Also, load temps for me on air reading 53-55c through Realtemp. Pretty happy about that...especially in the tropics and considering my vid.Quote:

Hi Finn. You seem to be in the same boat as me, pretty much. I won't push too high (still using stock cooler for now until the s1283 gets here), but 1.325V to get stable in OCCT @ 4GHz isn't a great sign. VID is 1.2500, CPU week # is 20. Board is same as yours with BIOS 1201.Quote:

Sensor problem on some E8600. RealTemp is more accurate than CoreTemp. I'm getting 8-10 C less on RealTemp than CoreTemp.

Looks like I am going to have to roll the dice and order one of these. Hope to get a good one.
you may want to wait just a few weeks for E0 e8500 / e8400. Probably $75-$100 cheaper.
Here is where i am at just now, I can mange 4.5Ghz stable eneough on 1.29v. 4.7ghz will run superpi at 1.34v but not OCCT, so i will try more vcore tonight but anything over 1.35/1.37 seems to get toasty quite quickly.
I believe 4.7 will be stable with 1.39/1.40ish but that is out of reach until i deal with the heat.
i might get lucky for a 5ghz superpi later, i can post at 5ghz but not boot into windows. ho hum. no complaints though.;)

Running 4Ghz at low vcore is nice and i can find no real gains for me at 4.5Ghz except that the stutters i saw when running 3DMark06 disappeared completely in proxycon. That may or may not make a difference in real games but it was nice to see some discernable effect other than just higher scores:).
Mines running with a 266 strap at 1.19v @ 4GHZ - wierd cause when it ran with everythign stock it read @ 1.25v!!! :rofl:

Had one; series 2V82320, VID 1.2500, needed 1.28V for 4GHz, 1.37V for 4.2GHz, 1.5V for 4.4GHz (CPU-Z v1.46) & than it still wouldn't do more than 3 minutes Prime95 small FFT's.
Didn't get very warm though.. under load about 12C cooler than my A435.
i changed settings accordingly and it booted right to same speeds without issue and i fired up prime again, i'll let it run another 12 hours or so lol.
That's exactly what mine's good for. Any higher takes exponentially more voltage/heat etc. Happy with 4.4.Quote:

There's no reliable source to confirm EO E8400/E8500 release date in the US or Hong Kong. M-XXXX and FireLight have these E0, but they're from eastern Europe.

To get the extra 100mhz we have to jump a little bit the voltage.

I've been only to Manhattan Beach, can't imagine why Fountain Valley won't have these, too. You have to ask for the retail e8500, oems most definitely will be C0s, and check the box at the register. Yup, that's where most every E8600 is at on air. 4.4GHz with 1.32V. I think you'll find the jump to 4.5 is a tough one. Lots of volts and heat, just to get the nice round number of 4.5. Mine will do it, but it takes way too much volts and pours the heat on - same with almost every other one on air that I have read about.Quote:

Ok, well I think I must have 1 hell of a wierd chip because I tried 1.25v in the BIOS trying to go from 4GHZ to 4.5GHZ (I'm having huge issues with my Overclocks) and bar from DET RAM (which I then sorted.... kinda) I tweaked and it almost booted all the way into Windows :shock: I think I actually needed to raise the voltages else where because I booted all the way in with a bit more to the NB and such which was on auto.... If I could get this damn BIOS to stop telling my RAM to :banana::banana::banana::banana: off I think I'd have something good on the go here!

Did I miss any info you needed? RAM is Kingston HyperX 1066. GPU 8800 GTS 320 mb.
The cheapest e8600 is $279 at newegg.com and not even q822 like in Europe.
I picked up this e8500 E0 at Fry's for $189 with a free ECS G31T-M mobo.
Same performance for $89 less plus a mobo for the girlfriend, lol!

This is on a cheap DS3L mobo too. Discovered it needed active northbridge cooling after it kept crashing after exactly 18 min 30 sec during orthos for anything above 4.3ghz. Doublesided taped an old DFI Lanparty NB fan on the NB and runs orthos no problems now. :up:
So short of the magical European q822a e8600's these e8500 E0's are on par with the q820a e8600's for $89 less. :up:

Been a while since I posted, but I have been lurking around...
I just got my E8600 installed an hour ago...
I am a bit worried about my idle temps. Core Temp says I'm at 41C at idle. This is with an Ultra 120 extreme and a 120mm 80+ cfm Panaflo at full speed on stock voltage. I have AS5 as the compound.
The thing that bothers me is that the chip I just took out was running 1.34375v and it idled at 29C. How can a chip using less voltage run hotter?
I did look for light between the sink and ihs, but saw none.
What do ya think?
You need to do the washer mod for your TRUE. Made all the difference for one of my rigs.
I had that going at one time, just to stop the damn thing from spinning on the ihs... You really think it will help with my temps?
Read this thread. Yes. B4 the mod I had uneven core temps (10 deg c difference) and ran almost 8 deg c higher too. After the mod my temps are lower and equal for both cores on an e8600es @ 4.3ghz. ;)Quote:

It seems that my new cpu must be slightly convex or concave... My TRUE worked nicely on my old chip, even without the mod.
I am considering lapping the ihs, but as I have never done it, I am worried I'll feck it all up. But ah sure, we'll see:D

Not that hard to lap.
Flat surface (glass, clipboard, etc.) and $4 combo sandpaper pack at autoparts store (400/600/800 grit - some say finer grit 800 up to 2000).
Up and down (not circular) 10 times, rotate 90 deg, 10 times, etc. until you turned 4 times with 400.
Repeat with 600. Then 800.
You don't need a shiny surface - just a flat one without big scratches (hence 800).
Also, you don't need to get down to all copper either (though it is nice for a better thermal gradient) - just a flat surface.
This will void your warranty though (as does overclocking lol...)

Fry's in Fountain Valley. They still have older C0 stock so at the checkout you have to tell them to get the smaller box with the SLB9J (e8400) or SLBJK (e8500) code. But it is easier tell them that there are 2 sizes and you want the smaller one.
