Both. :) It is rated at 7-7-7-21 1600MHz @ 1.9V, and that has been the best I have been able to do with the memory. I have gotten the memory stable at 1.80 V and 7-7-7-18, but that doesn't help much. (Incidentally, I turn the CPU down low, like to 6, to isolate the RAM while pushing the RAM.)Quote:

Not sure if it is just me but i lost EZ Flash utility with the latest Beta 402 it just wont read or find any bios in my USB drive (tested 2)

This board can handle fine strap 333 x fsb 450 on quads. It kicks though when strap setting is 266. I don't know why.
As far as my settings are concerned... with a QX9650 and 4x1GB 1800Mhz 8-7-6-21 cellchock RAM I struggle to find stable values.
I explain...
When all put in auto except ram volt (in my case stock value at 1.9V), it gives a stable system with FSB 1333 and underclocked cpu at 2.8Ghz (9650 stock speed is at 3.0Ghz).
BUT.. when even trying to use the automated o/c settings of the board (everything remains in auto except ram volt) in order to set DDR3 at its stock speed (1800Mhz) the mobo kicks the bucket and prime95 and memtest86 give errors...
Inspite all these, I am trying to get ram work at 1800Mhz 7-7-7-20-IT. Evidently, the key is the voltage settings...
Right now I use fsb 450 and strap 333 with 7 multiplier (core speed at 3.150Mhz) and

That's more complex than i thought but why i see many ppl running the Q9450 @ 3.6 stable by just changing the fsb and vcore?

I was about to tell you that MemTest lies with these RAMs. If you run them at 1800Mhz they pass with flying colors though [which you said yourself]. The RAM is not really supported [it seems] by any of the new X48 boards. I'm having the same issue with the BlackOps motherboard I have now; but the problem now is that any voltage passed 1.648v [default at 333FSB settings] will make the system hang. I have to tinker around and find out why that happens. I have to admit though, I get the sense that there might be light at the end of the tunnel I'm in now, a feeling I didn't get with the P5E3 Premium.Quote:

Then your case is just like mine was, I was super stable at 1600Mhz while running 4x 1GB [more sticks but same amount of RAM], but the moment I would go even 50Mhz higher it wouldn't even POST. If is any consolation, I was able to run my CPU at 450FSB with the RAM set to 1350Mhz [I believe that's a 5:8 ratio].Quote:

I may be coming back to this thread fulltime y'all. The BlackOps [aka POS board] has so many bugs that unlesss you are running an extreme CPU with CellShock RAM [eventhough I know of a guy that has a QX9770, with a boat load of high end Corsair Dominator RAM that can't even get it to POST at default 333/400FSB specs, sad sad sad] it just won't work right for you. I, myself, had to fight so much to get it to boot my Q9450 at 2.66Mhz [8x multiplier] that it just killed the whole experience for me. To top it off, when I shutdown/turn it on, it randomly load its own settings, like 6x multiplier. And don't even get me started on the fact that it down right refuses to run my RAM at 6-6-6-18 -2T [rated specs for 1333Mhz] due to the fact that if you up the RAM voltage to anything above 1.648v it does not POST at all.

Rest set at...VCore of my QX9650 (333X450X7) at 1.36875, SB 1.20, NB GTL at 0.67, ClockOverCharging 0.80 and as per memory settings.. Static Read and Dynamic Write both disabled, all rest at AUTO).

That's a pretty high PLL voltage for an extreme processor that you are not even running at a high multiplier. When I did 450FSB stable on that board with my Q9450, I lowered it a bit, I think I last left it at 1.62-1.66v [I know I said it was high and the difference between 1.70 and 1.66 is not much, BUT, 1.66v at 450FSB will leave him more headroom when he tries to go for a higher FSB].Quote:

hey guys, i recently got this board and last night installed it and everything, but i cant seem to get it to post.
Ive connected all the power cables, ram, cpu, 2 hd3870x2's (in crossfire) and de nada, it turns on, fans go about spinning, fan bay devices on, but no beeps or anything, and on my bottom gfx card, there is a red led on (no idea what that is).
ive done all the suggested maneuvers to reset the bios (cause on my previous p5e3 deluxe wifi, it wouldn't show anything on the screen because of the express gate and some sort of error with 3870x2's).
1 replace jumper on rtc with psu plug not on, put jumper back to original spot
2. replace jumper and remove cmos battery without psu cable plugged in, and put bat and jumper back in original positions
im using 2gb of Corsair Ram DDR3 1600C7DHXIN G (9-9-9-24 stock timings)
and yeah im stuck, cant get it to beep or post, or even show me anything...
problem is that its siting on a tri-loop watercooling system, and its gonna be the biggest PITA to drain all the loops, replace fill, re leak test everything.
Anyone else have similar problems?
Id take it to the store, but god knows what they'll do me beautiful mm cube :(
any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

I had some time today to play around with the 0503 BIOS.
I still could not get my system Prime95 "In-place Large FFTs" stable during overclocking using this BIOS. The In-place Large FFTs test is the best I have found to find holes in my setup. I would always get errors in less than 10mins on this and previous BIOSs.
I decided to take some temperature readings using a multimeter and a temperature probe. I slid the probe between the fins of the northbridge heatsink, under and to the right of the ASUS logo, and pushed it in so it was touching the flat surface of the northbridge. I set my system to 8.5x450 (3825MHz). Maximum multiplier for the X3360, and 450 FSB to get the 1800MHz memory speed. I then fired up Prime95 In-place Large FFTs. I got errors after 8mins. The temperature of the northbridge heatsink reached 51 C, ambient temperature was 21 C.
I decided to try cooling the northbridge down a tad and see what happens. I placed a 120mmx25mm fan between the 8800GT and the HSF, so that it was angled at the northbride heatsink arrangement. I fired up Prime95 In-place Large FFTs and took a temperature reading, 39 C.
The best thing is that Prime95 In-place Large FFTs has been running for 1 hour now and still going. The northbridge heatsink temperature is staying at 39 C.
BIOS 0503 settings, all auto except the following:

I stopped Prime95 after 1hour and 17mins. I realize this amount of time does not constitute stability but it's a big improvement on my previous efforts.

ok so more news, i tried placing the ram modules into different slots, both single and both ram modules, nothing, no beep, no nothing.
then i tried booting with no ram on, still nothing, shouldnt it of beeped with no ram in it?
Make sure your cpu is working. Test it on another motherboard. Try and boot up with no video card or memory just cpu installed. Make sure your speaker is connected. If your get no beeps you have a defected motherboard.
I once bought an expensive TV set. Got it home. Hook it up and didnt turn on. I was mad. I call the guy that sold it to me. He was nice. He ask me if i had read the manual. I said yes. He came over after work to help me out. I had forgotten to plug it in He show me in the manual where it said that this was important.
I can't pass the 400fsb.. tried to play with voltages and other settings but nothing! Always errors in Large FFTs in less than 10 mins. Other curious thing, i run prime for 12 hours 400*8 (3.2GHz) stable @ 1.20v and if i open this site (tvtuga . com) with any browser except IE my pc just reboots. With vcore 1.24v it doesn't reboot anymore. wtf is this? that site stress more in 5 secs than prime in 10 hours? :\

I'm finding the best stability test for my Q9450 / P5E3 combo is 3DMark06 "Return to Proxycon" (the first SM2 test and the first test in the series). In order to get 400FSB stable I've got everything at auto except RAM (set to 7-7-7-20 1T {start with 2T as not all RAM will be able to do 1T} Strong {again, start with Lightest as not all RAM will be able to do more} and PL 6) and some voltages - NB at 1.36v, vCore at 1.265v, vPLL at 1.6v and vFSB at 1.2.I'm running the same RAM and aren't having any problems. However, I originally bought two kits for 4*1GB, and one of my kits was dead (now off for RMA), meaning when I first dropped in all four sticks I was having the same issues as you. Bugger, thought we might have an easy fix there.
Definitely something isn't right if it isn't POSTing at default settings. Now you need to start the process of elimination to see where exactly the problem lies - you've ruled out RAM, which leaves CPU or mobo or PSU. Can you try another LGA775 CPU in your board to check?
The P5E3 Premium WiFi AP@n does not have a speaker installed on the board. You will need to connect a cable.Quote:

Can anyone list any 2x2gb ram that is known to work in this board with little or no problems? When I say WORK, I mean at rated timings and speeds. I am specifically looking for 1600mhz or faster. My setup just started locking up on Friday, and I traced it back to memtest errors. Trouble is, my OCZ EB Platinum kit is rated for 7-6-6-24 timings which are impossible in this and 2 other P5E3 Premium boards I have tried them in. I also tried 7-7-6-24 but no go. A tech from OCZ had me settle on 7-7-7-20, which worked fine foe a few weeks, but now is throwing errors on memtest86 (test#4). I backed off further to 7-7-7-24, and the errors seem to have stopped. I am not optimistic as I have been in this situation before with this memory. The kit will work at a given set of timings for a while, but eventually, the computer will start acting flakey, and sure enough, when I test for errors with memtest, there will be some.
Anybody else experianced this. Ideas? I either need to dump this memory, or the board so I can enjoy my new computer without having to run test, after test, after test, even after I found a seemingly stable overclock.

As I get around 420 MHz I get prime95 errors within minutes
I had increased CPU voltage to 1.36 to make sure this wasn't the issue.
I haven't adjusted CPU pll or FSB term voltages as I'm not sure exactly what they do or what is safe.
Are these needed in order to up the FSB?
If so, could someone make a recomendation as to settings?
Am I missing anything else? Thanks
FSB term needs to be raised above stock, as does PLL. I'd suggest trying 1.2 for FSB and 1.6 for PLL, you'll definitely need to play with these to raise FSB. It might also be worth having a look at the RAM skew values as you push higher; see this post over at the OCZ forums.

the cpu is liquid cooled, i got a dtek fuzion on the cpu. i've tried re-seating it, in case it didnt contact properly, thermal paste seemed fine both times., i also re applied the gpu waterblocks, mosfet and chipset blocks and still it wont post.

im afraid its the mobo damn it, and what sucks is that ive removed the stock heatsinks to put on the waterblocks, and im not sure i can get an RMA, id have to find 4 push pins that fit the stock cooling sinks :S
what about sata drives? could that be a problem? i have 4 hdds, and a dvd burner connected, from sata1 - sata5. But not in a particular order (i doubt its this ive never had this sort of problem due to placement of hdd's and dvd's).

Quick question, where are you plugging in your monitor cable? When I connected both of my HD2990XTs, it would show me the post with the cable connected to the left port on the top card, but the it would go black; I found out that then the signal would switch to the bottom card's left port. You should try either removing one of the cards or plugging in the monitor cable on all the ports [one at a time of course].Quote:

That board will allow you to set your RAM to it's rated SPEC, it just will not allow you to boot into Windows with it. That will give you a chance to run MemTest and verify if the sticks are bad. I did it after all of them failed at 1600Mhz I knew all 4 sticks couldn't possibly be bad.Quote:

Razmatazz i have a Q9450 and i have the same problem. I can't oc more than 400fsb or i get errors on prime quickly. I tried to play with the voltages but nothing until now...

This is probably old news for most of you, but for those that don't know. Intel lists both max voltage and an absolute max voltage for 45nm quads. They make it sound as if you venture outside the absolute max that death is near. From what I've read that would be the case with FSB voltages but CPU voltages can be pushed much further as this voltage will affect temps with which a good watercooling setup can mitigate. Many have recommended to keep the FSB voltage below 1.4 to be safe.

CellShock only makes 2GB kits in DDR3 that I have seen so far. The have the 1600, 1800, and 1866 2GB kits. I did change some Bios settings last week but not that many and appart from that i realy dont know why this should be a problem.
Problems seem to arrise when booting without making changes to the Bios. In this case i am starting to thinking ASUS AI is fiddeling up my Bios settings trying to optimize system performance.
Its always so hard to figure out what hardware or software is causing system instability. Especialy with a totualy new system :shrug:.
Then you start thinking mabye it has to do with vista 64 bit. Or mabye its my ram or is it my mobo? Mabye its cause by a corrupted hd or is it the videocard causeing the conflicts.
Its gonna take me a while to figure this system out. :rolleyes:
so yeah i changed cpu and it still didnt post, i changed my psu. god it was a major PITA, still didnt post, and now the worst news.
before putting the cpu in the p5e3 i tried it in my 680i with my thermaltake psu, and some other supertalent ddr2 ram(2gb), and guess what it didnt post either :S
wtf.... if all my parts got zapped/fried i think i should try and achieve some sort of award. being my 20th computer build, and not one being fried... :(
I was thinking about taking it to a major chain computer store to be looked at, but then i thought what theyre faces would look like when i put on the service desk a 18inch red cube case with triloop watercooling cooling...
