A more accurate one would be vs 4 8800GTS 512MB.
i was mearly using that as an estimate for a VOLTMODDED gx2. which every one seemed to miss in Mcoffeys post. not trying to be a troll, but he did put vmodded which =more heat.
Yeah, that's true... then 4xGTX would be more accurate then.
I guess we need some 9800GTX blocks now. Eddy what do you have to offer?
r those GX2's or GTX's??
9800GTX's. The GX2's are a lot more square looking while the GTX's coolers are curvy and smooth.
r those up for retail yet?? they look nice and if they OC anything like the GX2's they could be worth it with a nice 790i board.
does 3 9800gtx's outdo 2 x 9800gx2's?
you wana give the ones you not using to me?? preferabley the faster ones :P
yeah, those GX2's are just amazing looking.
looking forward to the results mate
Deleted! :D
OMG!! am i reading that right??
what about high and very high?? and also 4xAA testing please
nice Andy!
puts me in a place where I'd consider switching video card soloitions... Too bad with tri-sli you can't run a sound card :(
How bout some runs @ 1900x1200 very high settings?
So Andy, which do you think drives a 30" monitor better so far... 2 GX2s or the 3 GTXs?
Looking good. zbogorgon, could you post some temperature and your setup if you could? I'm curious if you have before air temps and after watercooling temps. I'm also curious to see the temperature difference between cores if there is any.
i wish to have one of these wb asap :(
Got Quad SLI working on the Skulltrail . . .just need blocks on teh GPUS cause they get toasty . . .
little off topic but for my 8800gtx this was not the case. my gtx @100% fan, case sidepanel open, 20-22c ambient reached 85c under load. the highest o/c i could achieve was 621/1621/999. 648 cc would almost instantly produce the nlvdd error or bsod. 621/1674 would produce driver errors or bsod anywhere between 1-5hours under load.
on water i could achieve 648/1674/999 with 45c load, closed case, 20-22c ambient. this o/c has been completely stable so far.
so with water you can achieve higher gpu o/cs in some cases.
my results thread
OT: i usually hate any light coming from my pc (even taped up the mobo power on led) but the look of a cool blue led coming thru a plexi block is nice, great job Eddy.
9800GX2 SLI vs 9800GTX Tri-SLI
R E V I E W
they also ran the cards at stock speeds. i think we should wait until some users like Andy get their hands on both set ups with 790i and see which performs better at a max OC.
I got 9800GX working with default air cooling (70C idle 86C loaded) at 720/1782/1123 (2246) +20%/+12%/+20% OC, waiting for a waterblock ...
In that review they should compare max OC results 2x9800GX2 vs 3x9800GTX as well - default coolers and WC versions, it would be great. Thanks for the link anyway!
now if we could just get them on water... Are we there yet Eddy? :)
Awesome...

still no news from eddy?
can't wait anymore :(
Hey,
Nothing to worry.
The block will be available on friday.
But lease be patience when purchasing the block because we expect high denand and limited qty in first week or two.
yahoooo
thank you so much hope to get 2 blocks friday then :)
ordered 2 gx2 and 1 x2 :D
They're up on his site :D
I'm in for 2
I found them but its a bit steep for me ....
Just ordered nickel plated x2 , USD 500 with ship cost. OMG! You can get phase change unit with this price.
Can't believe i clicked the send payment button.
Well the nickel plated one is 139eur, which is "only" $200 USD. That's not bad really.... Wasn't the DD version going to run close to $300?
Of course I didn't add in shipping. But, personally I think the cost is VERY fair. Newegg would probably charge $300-$350 for the same blocks. Recently it seems like the egg has been "kind of" taking advantage of new, or limited stock items.
I'm going to hold off on mine, since I'll plan it for my next build.... unless of course something better comes along, GPU wise, that is.
One other question, do all of EK's blocks come with a Nickel plating option? I think a system for of Nickel plated EK blocks would look rather nice, and from what I've read, they also perform well.

Innovateks alu-crap block run you down 197 Euro, thats 315 USD or so without shipping for aluminiumblock and for that you still only get ugly 1/4" twistbarbfittings. it should be goldplated 1/2" highflow for that price.
Thats a pure ripoff even for us in Europe and i was fearing higher price than 135 Euro for the 9800Gx2 Acetal so i have no problem of ditching this block in 3-4 months when 9900GTX see the light of day just in time when my extended stepup expires and it is time for better single-GPU stuff and SLi the normal way on 790i.
One BIG question - WHEN? :)
Why don't you set up the EK website for taking pre-orders, Eddy? We could pre-pay and wait some time, as we do for example on amazon for the pre-order of some goods.
Yup, I saw that last night.... gonna order one, just cant decide between Acetal, which is what I normally have, or clear which might be quite nice for a change.
Only problems with charging for pre-orders, are some people don't like to be charged money before the product ships. I certainly don't (normally) like it, unless it is a company, or person I know well.
I wouldn't hesitate to pay for a pre-order from EK though!

Rev2 of the EVGA, final version will be full copper, this is just a proto:
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8170/evgarev2oo4.png
Thanks, haven't visit it yesteday, I already made a purchase! WOOT!
BTW IMO it looks much better, especially with a blue LED underneath, than the eVGA version ;)
Will the Evga version be sold separately? Any target price point on that? Looks like a nice backplate on it too, like the one from the Akimbo air cooler. I like the all copper design.
frugal addict ???
Is that a oxymoron ?
:p:
The picture of Evga's prototype block is aluminum but he stated that the final version will be copper, that picture is just a prototype and is not nickel plated copper.
Either copper or nickel plated copper is fine with me, both look and perform great.
Just get 2x 9800GTX and be done ;)
some temps using EK block, room temp ~25°C. no difference in temps because of parallel flow type.
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/581/gx2tempsuy5.jpg
We were talking about EK waterblocks, the nickel version is 10 Euro more expensive ... and it looks very nice and shiny, but ... we like copper ;).
If both are fine for you, why pay more?
Well, its always like that, you have the same price and charge the manufacturers a resellers fee, therefore it is more profitable for them to sell to the end users ... at least in the beginning of announce.
Regarding $780 price - it is not THAT bad for many people, for example I paid only $62 for step-up from 8800GTX to 9800GX2, now it is not too bad to pay $239 for the waterblock looking at 85C load temperature ... because the first payment for 8800GTX is already in the past.
I am not sure that we definitely need to volt mod the card, it has enormous overclocking possibilities ... some people run it at 812MHz instead of the stock 600MHz without any volt mod. We will see.
It is more ridiculous to pay $300-$400 for 2 gb of DDR3, overclock it to max and have worse read-write-copy-latency results than for "updated" overclocked DDR2, for which you paid <$100 having 4 gb ... IMO
Isn't it a bit ridiculous to pay $650 for 2 1 gb sticks of DDR3-2000, which at least work and finally outperform the overclocked DDR2?
I don't think it's ridiculous. it gets hot here in NM and when the GTX came out I paid the full $650 +plus the 109 for the EK full cover, which is $759 excluding shipping.
I'm interesting in this. When do you guys think it will be out?
Well, ive just ordered an Acetal top EK. Just gotta wait for it to arrive now! LOL! cant wait... :D
i wonder if my order will be shipped tomorrow or all the orders will be shipped april 21 since they changed the date on the website :(
Yeah, its annoying that the blocks are ready and only screws are stopping them shipping, but nothing can really be done about that... not really EK's fault I guess!
i think my order was the 1st one :D
i still hope that will be shipped tomorrow so i can finally rebuild and close my new pc
Are you sure that you are the first one? iīm not even sure i am when i place the order before i made the hint in my post.
But donīt worry my money has to travel throu bank-system before they are at EK:s bank.
I donīt like Paypal that mutch that i put that kind of money at their possesion but however i respect the one (seller/buyer) that use it. Standard bank transfer is my kind of game if not creditcard is avalible as payment since i have a 100% secure one so no one can get any money out of it if they snap up the code/cardnumber since it only works once and for the amount i set up for it, after that the generated code or cardnumber is useless for anybody since my real cardnumber are never exposed anymore but that is no way of seeing that for anyone that taking out money when i use the e-card i have.
Here u go:

These blocks are awesome!!
Whoa DarthBeavis, looking good! Those blocks look pretty massive. Are those holes in the top of the blocks there to reduce the weight a little? Any pics before installation?
high res pix here

Looks like DD will have there first set of blocks up today and I already ordered an EK but DD lokks good for sure..
I was about to ask about that... so the actual mounting is ok? How long did it take to pull the cover off one of the cards?
@darkbeavis
what fittings did you use between the two cards?
Resived a waterblock for the 9800GX2 today, perhaps not the performance you get with Ekīs block but did get this block for free
Will order a Ek block later and test...

Damn, My Cards are so hot, check the first four temps at the right down pane of my taskbar, that first four are my 4gpu temps displayed by Everest Ultimate...
Room ambient ~26c

I really need to get these Blocks from EK!!!
Got the same issue here temp wise. Basically unusable as they are. playing Graw2 hits 92c then crashes out.
A real shame the cards look so bloody ugly naked.
