ok guys, what board should i exchange this one for, P5K premium?
Maybe some of this post can help me with this?. I should have posted here...
Mines going back for the Asus maximus formular thing
Care to explain how i can fit more into places where there are components on the board, such as caps and chokes and heatsinks?
On top of that 1/2" thick sheet of armaflex was a layer of paper towel, and a seriously tightly squeezed CPU tube insulation.
Perhaps you should tell kingpin how to insulate too?
http://www.overclockingpin.com/cpu%2...led%20mark.JPG
You used loads of bits as to one full sheet. Doesn't even look like you used any DC4 to get it to stick to the MOBO so it was air tight. Thats what you need, layers and layer around to be air tight
Well i've ordered new RAM incase my CellShocks are dead/dieing and im gonna RMA them anyway once new is here. I hope my bord is in this week. There expecting 28 today, but we have a postal strike and courrises are buser than normal cos of it. Then it has to come from the stores main site to there one here. Oddly a one other person has ordered one from my Brance so maybe i have a local to compet with if i ever find them
Interesting review ;)
http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Giga...ts/5306-1.html
Read it, they suggested the heatpipe cooling is not adequate enough to cool the X38, i kinda felt this myself on seeing pics of the mobo...which i why i bought some copper ramsinks so i can beef up the cooling over the X38.
480FSB...it's hardly mind blowing, alot of P35 boards do 480, i think people kinda EXPECT 500+ FSB these days, especially as X38 is touted as an overclockers dream etc.
Any info on the problem?
Has anyone checked to see if there boards have shipped with ES enigneering sample of the X38 chipset?
Well I have this board, and I'm not seeing some crazy issue with it at all! I haven't gone crazy overclocking it, but have see no problems overclocking to FSB of 535 X 7= 3.7, or 510 X 8= 4.0. I have not tried any other bios other than the F3.
Maybe I'm not pushing it hard enough to have problems, but so far, seems to run fine! I will say that my P5K Premium seemed to run about the same, so I'm not really seeing some vast inprovement over the P-35 chip-set.
Matt
GAR>>>> Well, hopefully it was an isolated issue, and RMAing your board, might bring you a good one! I never run four sticks of memory, and have had no memory issue at all using Ballistix's. Obviously, if I was getting BSOD at factory settings, mine would be going back too!
Good luck, and hopefully your next one will be a winner!!
@ GAR
Bluescreens are driver or hardware related.
What kind of bluescreens do you get, stop codes?
When running at stock please put in these memory timings manually: 4-4-4-12-3-3-6-42-3-6-Auto-2T. Vdimm should be 2.1V
Is it more stable now?
For high memory clocks I use 4-4-4-12-3-3-6-42-3-7-Auto-2T or 5-5-5-15-3-3-6-42-3-7-Auto-2T.
I'm very satisfied with this board and don't have any issues with it.
ok, reading the asus formula thread, people are having lots of issues with that board as well, man im beggining to think the x38 is crap, thats why an x48 is going to follow so soon, WTF???
vanovich>>> 2.2 volts
Remember the X38 board is providing 1.8 volt from the factory settings, so in your bios in the "DDR2 Overvoltage Control" set it at .40 which will bring your total voltage 2.2.............
Good luck, and love those Ballistix's for sure!!
ok ,thanks . i know .getting my ballistiks tommorow .this is what my results so far are with cf .so im looking forward to get some more ram width .:)

maybe with the ballistiks i can push the fsb further

in this review of the retail board, this guy shows a pic of the X38 with the IHS off, and gigabyte is using the ES chips............look at the HSF of the X38, says ES.............i knew it, they are using the older revisions of the chip, im sure eventually they will change this, but early boards seem to be the ES chips..............could someone remove there heatsink to find out if they are using the ES chips on their retail boards, thanks!
I didn't say it's not possible or that the board is not currently capable of it as it clearly is. There are plenty of people having troubles with this and other X38 boards who can't hit 500 and as a consequence are returning or selling them. I'm simply saying time will solve these issues. And BTW I wasn't specifically talking about this board but rather all boards these days that are almost always expected to hit 500+ the day they're released.
LOL people
i can't believe you are :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing out so quick
this boards is crazy good
i have NEVER been able to do this with RAM before and never had this SuperPi efficiency

T_M you killed your board with condensation i think........that is where mine sweats bit time but i have LET on there
i LOOOOOOOOOOVE my board :D :D :D :D :D
Took a bit of effort as im new to DSLR and had to use manual focus.

So the X38 is recalled by intel????
I highly doubt that, if so I'd love for someone offer up some documented info showing this to be the case.
This is the only info I could find regarding any related issues with the X38
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...3063&Itemid=37
Quote:
According to a list of errata's that we've seen from Intel with regards to its X38 chipset, there's a problem with some PCIe cards and the x16 PCI Express slots. There's no real need to worry though, as graphcis cards will work just fine.
Intel isn't planning on fixing the issue either, since it's aparently only related to some x4 and x8 cards, such as RAID controllers and dual or quad network cards and these aren't really intended for the X38 chipset.
There are some other minor issues with the chipset and according to some of the motherboard manufacturers we've talked to, there are some problems when it comes to making their own board designs as Intel hasn't proveded a design kit this time around.
It almost sounds as if Intel doesn't wan't its board partners to succeed in creating top-notch board so that Intel can steal some market share with its own X38 board, or will it be X48?
Finally got some time to mess with this board (it sat for two weeks:( ) and it booted first try @ 400FSB on my Q6000 and is stable.
Hope to get into the real OCing later this week. So far I am liking this board, but had some issues getting RAID working. Had to find which ports it would allow me to use.
F5g for X38-DQ6

G'day,
I've been reading this thread with interest as I have an X38-DQ6 myself.
My rig is in the sig.
This is the best (rock solid) I've got it so far.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...06/X38mk11.jpg
This is a great forum, good info to be found here.
Will reboot now and try this new bios rev.
Mine has the same revision X38 chipset as above, and is also stamped with a 06 date code. Mine was from the 3nd batch that ClubIt recieved...
What´s the best working bios for dual core today för X38-DQ6 ??
Intel pulled all X38s back hense why there was a delay. When i did pop the HSF what ever off there was imprint on any thermal pads, not one mosfet mark letalone anything off the NB or SB.
If i still have this bord when my new RAM arrives i'll give it a go but i think it's the bord. Guess we will see
mind you i do not beleive its 100% stable all my tests passed but my windows takin longer n longer to shutdown
and i think those other boises are a joke they fix 1 thing n mess up another
i'll be patient n wait another week before i return the board by p35 had better performance n was rock solid n ran 4 sticks @ 1040mhz @ 4-4-4-10-2-2-5-26n i cant this one doin 800hmz
i doin 1 more reinstall if it messes up its gone lol
Nice thread Pete!

cmon fellas, dont crap the thread.
I've taken my bord back to the store and they were not happy and called Gigabyte Uk i think and had a word. I got a full refund in the end.
Maximus Formula (Special Edition) is what i have now
I canīt get EasyTune up running correct in Vista X64. Get an error message at start up. No device found it say :/ Anyone have some tip? Also setfsb dont work in vista x64 :(

Just spoke with ClubIt on the phone. They are going to allow me to return mine for the full price + shipping! Awesome service from those guys!
Lots of reviews the last couple of days ;)

i just saw this GIGABYTE GA-X38-DQ6 Core 2 Quad/ Intel X38/ DDR2-1066/ SLI/ A&2GbE/
is it official x38 supporting sli??
Wouldnt they give you a SLi bridge if they were going to support it?
Didn't try F3 yet, flashed directly to F4, which was crap in terms of FSB overclocking, couldn't even do FSB400, large FFTs were highly unstable. That was fixed with F5f. Now FSB460 is Prime stable. This is with a quad and 4x1024MB.
At stock tRD is set to 4, that's way too tight. When not setting CommandRate to 2T manually, board sometimes resets settings on cold boot like when overclocking too high. So at least I set tRD and CommandRate manually.
f3 the only one for high fsb
did more testing this board overclocks cpu nicely i maxed out @ 580fsb with the help of setfsb
this board has potential if we had a nice bois
Just tested F3 and needed tRD 8 for 450x8. With F5g I can use tRD 7. Also Vdroop improvements which were done with F5d are missing. BIOS F5g seems best for quad.
Guys, does anyone know much the X38-DQ6 weights?, as in the whole things, mobo/accessories/box....like the whole thing together??
3Kg?
Bingo...any chance of me having said beta?...my board is in the mail from Germany.
Richard, I looked on the box mine was shipped to me in, and on the FedEx shipping label is saying actual weight 8.0lbs. Obviously that would include the secondary box it was shipped in.
Hope that helps ya!
Matt
It does not solve world peace, but its the first BIOS since F3 that I would even think about using. We expect another update this weekend but I will get this one posted. If you have a dual core, F3 still appears to be better to me in most cases. Of course, I just setup a new retail board so there is more testing to be done with it. ;)
F5HBetaUseAtYourOwnRisk
F6a is still alpha... ;)
bingo, Could you possibly give some insight on the F5H beta?
Quick question guys...Is there a way to change performance level in bios? I was using memset with p35 but memtest does not support the chipset yet. This is my stable overclock 8 hours prime stable. About the same as my p35-dq6. I gained about 700 in 3dmark06 using 2900xt in crossfire:up: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3351998
WOW, i love this board, nice performance with 400fsb and ddr3-1600:up:

Performance level is tRD.
Just tested F5h and have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand I could do 470x7 prime stable now (10MHz+) but BIOS resetted settings on reboot. Perhaps one or two MHz less and this will not happen again. On the other hand I needed to reduce "Performance Enhance" to "Standard" to get my previous 450x8 stable again. Let's wait for new BIOS. ;)
need some clarification, how come i got better bandwidth in sandra but worst bandwidth in everest when comparing with p35?
Can I get the DDR3 version of this motherboard in the US now?
So what bios should i be running with a q6600? just hit 20k 3dmark 06 in vista with 2900xt crossfire but my board wont get over 500fsb im using f3 bios right now.
Severance, you better stay with the F3....Seems the other's are pretty unstable, and the FSB ain't letting you clock very high stable. I'm hoping they will release a stable updated bios that will unleash this chip-set, so us end-users can say wow, it's truely better than a P35. But as of right now, I'm not overly impressed.
I'm not going to bad-mouth my X38, because it's running very well, just ain't an overclocking monster............
Thank you for your help guys. Im very impressed so far. Got my q6600 go up to 4185 on water and 2900xt crossfire on air and also beat my personal best. I think this chipset may level the playing field in the nvidia vs ati game but please dont start a nvidia vs ati war in here. Im no fanboy i have 2 systems a 2900xt system and a 8800gtx system. I was gonna pick up the asus and try it but i cant see it being much better then this board. I cant remember ever trying a new asus board with an early bios that never had some sort of problem. This thing is solid.:) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3364744
hey guy
does this mb work with q6600 g0 strait fram the box? or do need to update bios?
and F5f or F5g?
