Are there any boards in the same price range worth getting? I dont wanna wait god knows how long for newegg to restock. :(
Newegg now has the board!http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136034
/wait
good thanks for the heads up on 2 SATA cables... guess I'll go pick up a few extra cables before it gets here then.
UGH WHY DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN NY.
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT COMES!
Friday!
this board is arriving in manila in a few days. cant wait to test it
Well mine got here today in a box with NO padding. Everything looks ok, but I have to wait til tomorrow for the RAM. Anyone order some good black SATA cables from somewhere cheap?
Has anyone had cold boot problems or other bios troubles? I ask because my worst ever board was a DFI infinity nforce2, u didnt dare shut it down even at stock.
Im waiting for these CPU cuts and then Ill get either a Gigabyte DS3 (seem to be most popular on overclockers.co.uk), or one of these boards. Probably buy it from scan.co.uk cause of free shipping deal with hexus.co.uk members.
anyone know when zipzoomfly or other online providers will get a hold of the board?
Just got all my parts together tonight. No OC yet, just testing stability on the old P5B Windows install. :p
I pulled the NB/SB off and stuck a bunch of MX-1 on there...checked for good contact. NB was a PITA to get on tho. The clips are tough to move and the HS just kept slidin around. It gets nice an hot wo/ airflow, so I stuck a 120mm over the top of RAM and it's barely warm...cool even. Here's a few pics so we can start comparing temps/volts...

Hope 1200ish isn't too big for pics posted these days...let me know. As you can see, I'm still on the shipping bios. Got excited and wanted to check for stability. :D I'll be throwing on the one from 4/11 in hopes to cure this issue:

After that, there's no Intel ROM BIOS for me to configure RAID and it won't boot to windows. The solution? Unplugging the SATA DVD writer from port 5. I've got the HDD's plugged into 1-4 and am curious if perhaps I need to do some switching around. Any ideas?
nice. enough stock testing!! ;) mine's still not here :( tomorrow i suppose
did you set it for raid ?? inside bios its ctrl - i once you set it :) its under integrated
Latest bios seems to have fixed it. I'm on 4-11 and have things configured as such:

Working on OC now. :D It seems this board has ushered in the era of the "triple-boot" then? I remember my socket 754 DFI NF3 250GB being quirky(to steal your word), but this thing has a mind of it's own! It chirps and turns off at seemingly random times. But so far stability overall seems another world from my ASUS + Crucial issues.
Have you guys any ideas as to the 2nd Intel AHCI SATA ROM screen? When RAID's on, it'll hang on the 1st post screen for 2 seconds, move onto the Intel ROM Bios for another 3-4, then set up camp on this 3rd screen that talks about Intel and throws down some ........finally finding all my SATA boys for 15 seconds. Overall, it's about as fast as my P5B, maybe a bit slower, but what's up w/ this?
30secondbios.wmv 3mb
damn, 411 bios out? i just got done modding 402. don't even have the board yet
edit: haha long boot process. at least it's always doing something and not just randomly hanging.
is there an option in the bios to keep current settings or force bios? maybe if you told it to keep config, the ahci / raid won't have to run and do a full init everytime?
your missing A part of the bios it sould come up with a hole diff thing under the slow part your seems to skip this ...
I kind of wondered why the first part hauls by...would you mind taking pics/vid of what you're seeing? Anyway, here's some small progress.

I had to bump the SB up just a touch to get the Windows XP loading screen to come up. Everything else's stock tho.
aw you guys are so lucky... The only aussie distributor for DFI is only getting the 680i, not the 965 infinity :(
They made their decision that they are certianly not importing 965s? That's a load of :banana::banana::banana:. Mass mail HQ, about BRONET. Suckers....
hey guys.. any annoying buzzz or noise when pushing your FSB????
These help.
http://www.mondotees.com/ProductImag...headphones.jpg
I remember someone hot glue'n the buzzing coil on old school asus P4C800's i think
hahaaah.. :D
I've got your typical RAM/NB buzz when moving the mouse wheel/scrolling a page, but it can't be heard from more than a foot or two away. The PSU's got a noise, but I think it's the fan. It's on the desk wo/ a case and nothing's bothering me at all. That's more than I can say for the Commando!
well i'm having such fun with the P965-S i thought i'd just post quickly that i have mine pretty untweaked but booting and prime stable at 500fsb.
please no *****ing at the unoptimised nature of this run...
i havn't had any time to tighten timings or lower volts yet.
the point is this board is capable of 500fsb 24/7 and from boot.
edit: loaded vcore measured reads about 0.07 below bios set voltage...i didn't measure idle yet.
and at 2.2vdimm set in the bios, real measured on an empty ram slot vdimm overvolted to 2.27
/edit
also this was done with an e6600 modded to 333fsb
prior to the mod i couldn't do 500fsb even through 1M...after the mod i have seen 527fsb 1M
i'm sure the board is capable of more without the mod since others have seen 540fsb with no mods and 266fsb cpu's...its just my cpu wasn't happy at 500 till the mod was done.
but i do not recommend the 333fsb pinmod for this board yet as i had a rough time booting with much of my ram after the mod.
that is why this bench was done with Team Elite DDR800 5-5-5 ProMOS IC's

Anyone having the new 4/11 BIOS: please upload and post a link.
Jesus, that page looks like its from 1996.
wow looks like dfi got rid of directory browsing. :slapass:
http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/I96PD411.zip
just change the date to that of new bios. guess now we have to crawl with brute force and date :)
I have 2 links for you guys.
I have the DFI DARK.
I do not have the DFI DARK.
lol nice video i'm excited
hey guys just some warning fo u guys....2 of my friends were having problem with the beta bios.... the 0402 ones.... the latest (0411) one was fine according to them.... from their experience the beta bios clock higher than the initial bios....
so the hr-05 wont fit with a tunqi :( NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have the Tuniq tower and an HR-05 mounted together. The NB/CPU socket setup is the same as on the Infinity 975x which also worked with the Tuniq and HR-05. They do touch, but I didn't notice any pressure from pushing.
http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74961
That's a link to a thread with a pic of the 2 on the 975x. If you're comfortable with that, then I say go for it. Though it probably wouldn't hurt to put some fishing line to hold the top of the tuniq a little higher to keep from gravity pulling it down on the HR-05.
Either way, it works for me fine so far.
thanks man much appricated looks like i will be going for a hr-05 and tunqi :D
hw do you mean hold up the nb???
that would be grea m8 :D
I have serious problem with this board. It is new, but not working, if i push the Power button, board is getting in endless restart loop ... no post, nothing, only restart after restart ...
It is normal and i am doing something wrong? Or RMA? I ve tested TWO memories, TWO CPUs, TWO GFX and the same result ...
i got that endless loop once from memory compatibility when using modded 333fsb e6600.
my solution is some 1.9 volt ram like promos
@flytek you deserve ur own thread!!
I've had mine since last Thursday.
It's really sweet, and it's been performing awesome for me.
Using G.Skill 2GBHZ
remove all power from the board and clear the cmos, power back up, jumper bac k to normal, use a single stick of ram in the 3rd or forth slot and see if it will boot. On a cleared boot like this, the board should spin up for a couple of seconds, power down, spin up again, power down, and then boot up...
If it does boot set the vdimm up at 2-2.1v and save cmos, remove power from the board and insert the other stick of ram, try powering up again. If this does not work, see if you can try some different ram, try to avoid any ram that has been run with high vdimm for excessive periods, if using older stuff. Promos and elpida types use lower vdimm intrinsically, even micron d9 should boot at 1.9 if it has not been run hard for longer periods. Failing this the problem is either SPD related or you may need to rma the board..

raja
Anyone know of any heatsinks that'll cover the mosfets well, and push into the designed holes to secure, instead of having to adhere to mosfets themselves?
are HS on the mosfets absolutely necessary
waiting for newegg to get this back in stock..no way I am buying from ewiz
No, otherwise DFI wouldn't have skimped out of them. But it does look like they had plans at some point in time for cooling, since they have holes around the area for mounting something. But I figure it wouldn't hurt. Guess there was some sort of communication difficulty with my attachments not making it or something, so the order never shipped. I ended up pulling the trigger from ewiz last night. Meh... guess it's another week or two of waiting. AHHH
