Yes you crackhead:upset: Can you see mine :moon: :hm: :shoot:  I got smps now... and I got even older reserves than Sparky's :slobber: :wth: :fight:

Well, I still have my old P4s8x P4c 2.53GHz 2x256MB RAM sitting in a box. When I build my new server cube case (on the drawing board and scheduled for construction soon), this can go back into 'Server's' current case.
:p:
I will have to look into this SMP thing everyone is doing too. Ah... too many things to do.
Ooh :slobber: that's hightech compared to my athlons I got here getting dusted :D
So you got cube on the way too  I just got last saturday finished my own SteelCube :p: See Case-section tomorrow. I'll try make a thread about it. But no proper work log coming cause I did that case in hurry.Quote:

btw, the occassional WU's been getting burned anyway at the moment. A couple of weeks ago I waited over 24hrs for a measly 292pts, it got about 60% or something and EUE'd. I got credited a measly 3pts! Phewy.
@Scoop, well... given that my P4e@3.0 1GB, only puts out about 200ppd, I didn't think the extra power, heat and noise was worth it. But I will definately look into it, especially as the weather is getting colder now ;)
I'll keep an eye out for you case. Mine will be more of a 'fatboy' than a proper cube. Dimensions are similar to a mid-tower but closer to 400mm wide. It also has some funky, probably total waste of time, design changes. For instance, the mobo will be rotated, facing inwards with I/O connectors on top ;) and all fans on the floor pushing up, no exhaust.
EXTRA EXTRA, I've just made 1,858ppd - that's a GAM Record ;)
Yes man, let's take him down :p: :D
I had to say my old puny rigs probably stay off... last summer was horror, my room temp stayed always around 30c and electricity bill was nice :fact:Quote:

Had to warn: I haven't had too much time to put for better grade of finishing but it's for LANs so do I care :banana:Quote:

BTW: folding now project 2610  Have no clue ~ credit it gives -> going oced 11min/frame :)
maybe better to go sleep some... it's 3am here LOL
Hey I know all about the heat part, my room must have been a good 28+ degrees C yesterday! It was sweltering in here, all the systems kept running though. My CPU which usually runs about 51-52C was hitting 57C. That poor old athlon XP in fold6 was sweltering at 69C.
For you though, just turn the AC up a little :D
Well there was no way I was shutting down the crunchers just because of a little heat :D As long as they didn't overheat and shut down on their own they kept running. I'm a hard taskmaster for my crunchers :cord:
Another question I'm afraid
I abandoned SMP, because of a couple of things, one being the need to have a password on the user account, and decided to have a go with two instances on the normal console client running instead.
It's working fine, but they seem to be running out of sync.

Is this normal behaviour, or have I done something wrong?
That is normal. The normal CPU client each works on its own WU, and some go faster than others. In your case, they both have the same WU, but depending on your computer usage, one core may be getting used for other windows tasks as well as F@H while the other is left mostly to F@H. Nothing abnormal about it :)
Okay, thanks. I was wondering mainly because they are both doing the same project; 3040, just different Run/Clone/Gen's. Also the system is mostly running idle at the moment.
I originally thought you'd be able to assign a physical core to each client, but it doesn't seem to work like this. Unless Windows automatically assigns each instance of the client to it's own core.
What  Now if you follow guides... link which you can find in Sparky's sig too ;)... if you install two instances of f@h for a dual core processor you have to manually set physical core =machine ID. See fourth part at Sparky's guide :fact: ...not sure why these guides aren't stickied yet :shakes:  :stick:
Right now you're probably using HT which is not recommended :)
Yeah, I'd already done this, the first instance has a machine ID of 1, the second has a machine ID of 2. Both cores are going at 100%, As I mentioned, as it's the same project, I just thought there would be more of a balance in the progress. They are now at 7% and 19%. Perhaps the different run/clone/gen makes more of a difference then I had anticipated.
The weird thing is, if I close one instance, both cores drop to 50%, so the wokrkload is being shared between them, rather then one core being utilized 100%, and the other "sleeping". This might be supposed to happen with only one instance running, I don't know, which is why I'm confused.
My bad... I misunderstood, that you haven't done this... so you've.
BTW: each wu is different... even they are from the same project. It's how they make science... simulations of the same "happening" with some minor variations, I think :)
Now comes to my mind... how many services of f@h(-cores) you see at Task Manager?
Ah, I see.
Well, I have 2 x FAH504-Console.exe, and 2 x FahCore_78.exe
Which I'm guessing would be right.
I've just checked the CPU time, and one instance of FahCore_78.exe has clocked up 25 minutes, where as the other is at 1 hour 54 minutes. hmm.
Up until a short while ago, their priority was set to idle, I've since chanced it to low as I'm not using the machine for anything else at the moment. Maybe that was it then, one core was busy with other processes. I don't know what could use up that much CPU time though, as the system hasn't been used all afternoon.
@mk5652
Not going to quote everything... too messy. But I agree with Scoop, check your task manager as I have had the same thing happen before, i.e., two services running, yet also a 'console client' running i.e., 3 instances on one machine. This might explain the 'significant' difference between the two.
For reassurrance, one of my cores usually completes faster than the other for reasons specified above, one core gets devoted to more of the 'housework' while the other is left to fold more devotedly. ;) Still, not such a significant difference as you're indicating above.
@Scoop, sorry mate, I don't quite follow you.
But, my amazing PPD is starting to fall for natural reasons, although I did make the mistake of leaving some memory hungry apps open last night which significantly affected the ppd on one core--min 600ppd down to avg 266ppd!?!?
On another note, I just received my replacement HZ sticks (RMA'd a week ago) and can now migrate the new 2x1GB HK's to 'HTPC'. This should give HTPC a very significant boost on PPD as it is only using 1GB at the moment and for some reason I only specified 500MB.
Have you checked this :p: ;) Whatta a spike :fact: :woot:
That is one INCREDIBLE spike! :shock2:
So what's the story?
You haven't seen my sig and SSCube :stick: :D :slapass: :toast:
I forgot to mention previously, I have them running via startup shortcuts. I don't suppose this makes any difference. There are four folding processes running, 2 x FAH504-Console.exe, and 2 x FahCore_78.exe, all attributed to my Windows username.
I'm fortunately safe there, but it's still a mystery as to where the CPU time was lost. I've sat here watching task manager, and the only CPU time being used is by the two instances of FahCore_78.exe.
I'm going to leave the system running for awhile, to see if it makes a difference now they are both set to low priority. If not, I have no idea what's going on.
Anyway, thanks for the help folks, it has been much apreciated.
If I could just get my hands on a broken dual core s939 chip for dirt cheap I'd be all over that for the SMP client. I love getting busted CPUs and fixing them, cheap upgrades to my crunchers :hehe:
I repair broken pins :) Currently fold3 and fold7 have repaired CPUs (fold7's has 3 replaced pins, was a victim of getting ripped out of the socket). Catch is the broken pin(s) have to be on the outside row, I don't have a small enough iron to get in the middle.
If one of those opteron 165's is a victim of an outside-edge busted pin (or two, or three...), what would you want for it? :D
I just noticed, I'm hanging on to the top 20 crunchers of our team by the skin of my teeth, all these bright red guys keep shoving me down the list :p:
:hrhr: Read it and weep, Sparky :fact:
FYI, without going SMP, which I surely will soon, I should increase by average PPD by another 150 or so as I have just doubled HTPC's memory from 1GB to 2GB (also specified 2047 i/o 500 set once upon a time). On top of that, I've squeezed another 400MHz out of the poor D805 :hehe:
On the SMP front, something I read somewhere has put me off a little. 'Disconnecting your internet stops the client...', is this true? Also, can you tell me if it is appropriate to run the SMP client on HTPC, given that we watch avi's regularly on it (evenings) and my wife often steals the network connection when she works from home? I know it doesn't affect the normal client unless its trying to send or receive work.
Does adding memory really help that much? I've never seen a normal CPU client use more than a couple hundred MB... but if it does help then I'll dump more ram into the systems I've got!
When I ran the SMP client for a bit on the borrowed parts I used, I never saw it stop work when the internet connection died.
Re the memory thing, I should have added that the upgrade was from a 'slow single' 1GB stick to '2 faster' 1GB sticks. So the significance is really in going from single channel to dual channel DDR with tighter timings. And the extra 400MHz on the CPU, theoretically, adds 12.5% too.
My estimated 150ppd was based on the increase in Min PPD on the same project for the same instance i.e.,
2611 (682pts) Min.Time 251.49 ppd is now 341.79 ppd (+90)
2613 (755pts) Min.Time 205.00 ppd is now 262.40 ppd (+57)
As you can see, very rough basis for estimation as these proj. are average performers on this machine anyway. Different WUs, different results.
I'm also guessing that when HTPC is busy entertaining us, it'll have more reserves left to satisfy F@H and us ;)
I might just throw more memory in a few of the systems since I have some spare 128MB sticks of PC133 around here. Who knows, it might do something... like an extra 2 PPD :p:
I only have 1 dual core CPU in all of my crunchers, and that is my main rig. I found that on my rig the GPU client + a normal CPU client nets me about the same PPD. The GPU uploads 330 points worth every 11 hours though instead of the SMP client's 1500 points every day and a half (or however long it takes it).
sc00p the cube looks great man (will have a proper look when I get home), and your graph looks much more healthy now too :D  I've got some boxes to sort out at the weekend & hope to be somewhere near my old ppd by next week - e4300@3.0 e6400@3.2 & maybe my opty will go back on :)
There's some good battles on the XS team stats at the moment, I like it :p:
Once I get my new rig, I'll be folding till the cows come home :D. Already got a couple of people to install F@H under my username :D.
Maybe the opty will go on? MAYBE?! Jimwah, there is no maybe :nono: it is it WILL be going back on! :fact: :hehe:
I noticed our stats yesterday took a drop. Hopefully it'll be back up where it was again, though I think there are some who are going over to WCG for the may "whoop the admins" competition :D oh, and Angra's systems look to be in use again, his chart has a drop. Angra, tell those guys to stop using those computers, you need them for F@H :lol2: After all, can't let mawsoccer push you down from being #1 on the team can you? ;)
@Kaze, how many systems have you got running F@H now, and what specs? I'm curious... so I know whether to worry about more people coming for me later on! :p:
Crap, somehow I managed to dent one of my caps on my mobo underneath my gfx card, and system instability is back now :( Good ol' ebay to the rescue though, found an exact replacement for it. And, I just got a rebate from paypal, so this new cap was essentially free. Just a hassle though.
*EDIT* And I just went through 2 restarts in a row
Bugger dude. Pisses you off, doesn't it? Pisses me off when hardware/software starts to fail out of the blue.
But hey, nevermind, just leave it off for while... like er... i was going to say 1.6 months, but given the lull in my WUs/submissions, you're off the radar again. :(
Just the WU gods, I think. :(
A couple more WUs should be realised in the next hour or so and then I should have another reasonable fall of points later today. The major spike a few days back was due to Server dropping 1300 odd points on its 5-7day turn around ;)
Ugh. I just got an error at 92% on a 250K step WU. Had to start a new one.
Check your overclock if you are at all. If you aren't, it could just be one of those random unstable WUs. You'll get partial credit though.
Overclock?
Have you read my sig?
Barton core much?
Well some bartons overclocked well, not sure about the highend. Sorry though, yeah I see that is stock (running my barton 2500+ cruncher at 3200+, magic stepping).
My guess then is it is just one of those random WUs with an error, you'll still get partial credit.
Jimwah, I think you mentioned it before, but why is your graph looking a little down? Come on jimmy boy, whip those rigs, get them crunching more! ;)
Yeah I'm getting on it as soon as I can - got my opty back on yesterday, only at stock 'cos I could only find a 350w enlight PSU, wasnt sure if it could hack 1.5vCore  Today I'll attempt to get a basic fedora64 install done on either the e4300 or e6400  All these problems basically stem from that stick of Xtreem which died, and having to shuffle & re-overclock all my DDR2 rigs.
Anyone else been having trouble getting work? My GPU was idle all morning and didn't get work until the middle of the afternoon. Fold1 still hasn't gotten work. Looks like our stats are reflecting some of these issues as well :(
I had no getting work issues on the 2 SMP clients I have. My other four boxes are at work and I am too lazy to start up the VPN to see whats up. They have posted a few units over the weekend though. I was expecting a couple more but Ill look and see in the morrning.
Yep, I've been noticing some issues over the weekend. I saw a post on the F@H forum indicating server upgrades or such. I have WUs now though but a couple of WUs that were completed sometime during the last 24hrs have not been realised by the Stats page yet.
My GPU finally got a WU. Fold1 is still idle though :( Keeps getting assigned to "0.0.0.0" which of course doesn't work...
I couldn't get a GPU work unit for a while here either. I have one now though and it's full steam ahead :)
Fold3 uploaded its work and downloaded a new WU with no problem. So what is fold1's issue? I had bigWUs turned off on it and apparently they didn't have any small WUs left. Or the server dealing with the small WUs is down, or something. Turned bigWUs on and fold1 is now crunching again. Wish I had realized this yesterday so it wouldn't have been idle for over 24 hours :(
What the frek is happening with the Standford servers!!!???
I've now got two clients, my fastest of course  that can't get new WU's. They can't submit their work either. One has been trying for the last6 or so hours!!!!
Anyone else experiencing this?
Again I'm just taking a wild guess w/o looking anything from official forums but I believe server reconfigurations are related to the upcoming client 6 -family. IDK really. Who has time will look stanford forums for accurate information...
You guys won't believe this...
I think I have finally solved my problem. After months of hangups I went on a frenzy on monday. First I put my system back to 100% stock, which didn't fix anything. So I thought OK maybe my CPU is damaged, since I've replaced mobo, gfx card, PSU, memory, and case. Swapped it out for the one in fold7. Still froze up. Removed all USB devices, the soundcard... still froze up. Removed all optical drives, still froze up. :upset:
My frustration is showing by now I'm sure
What is left? Only 1 thing hasn't been replaced. Hard drive. So I imaged my main drive to my storage drive and removed my main drive from the system. Result? So far I have not been able to get it to freeze up yet. Still too soon to be certain, but I think there is something wrong with the drive that causes the lockups. I think there is a PCB issue that causes the drive to randomly become unreadable, so the system hangs because the drive is no longer accessible. That would make sense since the HD light would almost always come solid on a few seconds before the system froze up. Could it cause the system unable to reboot though? I guess if a circuit on the PCB is acting up it could be hanging up the SATA controller.
All theory at this point, not certain, but it sure looks like I may have it figured out finally. After all, there is NOTHING else left to swap out
*EDIT* nevermind, just hung up on me again! :upset:
I think it is about time I just sell off this whole stupid thing and buy all new :upset:
sparky: remember that ultimately this problem can be solved with great satisfaction by using a very large hammer :D
I need a functional PC though, that the hammer will not give me ;)
Time to harass some ppl again ;)
SC00P!!! JIMWAH!! Get on the ball, you guys are slackin' :cord: ;)
I just (finally) got all my rigs back to F@H, so watch out embeejay, I've got my sights set on you :frag: :hehe:
BTW, the problem I was having has been fixed for quite a while now. I found my main problem was the HD (so I RMA'ed it and now everything is peachy :D) and the freezup problem in games was apparently the two new services that punkbuster runs in the background (which bugs me to no end, why does everything have to run in the background and use system resources all the time!?!) and ATItool don't get along and it freezes the system. Now when I play games online I just have to remember to shut ATItool off first  I found this link which is what helped me find that problem.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=30471
No fix for it yet AFAIK, so a heads-up to anyone else out there who seems to be having trouble like this.
See my sig Sparky... there's lots of evil sarcasm involved if you didn't figured that out yourself. BTW: I'd pmed jimwah last week without response. I guess busy like all of us folders.
TBH: I'm starting get enough of this team. It's so :banana::banana::banana:ing deserted so long periods. I'm so close to fed up having monologues here... there, I hadsomething off my chest... I'll carry on being silent... sorry ~of this rant
Of course, if everyone deserts because they feel it gets deserted then this team won't get any bigger now will it? ;)
I honestly don't have too much of a problem just folding quietly away. Just when ppl start slacking some I gotta give them a :poke: :D
One of the my main concerns is that when some of the new members need an advice... I certainly do not know all the answers to the problems... and my free time, very sorry to say this but, it's very limited nowadays too (I'm sure it's problem for quite a few of the folders). That's the dilemma... I like to think I'm social being but not have time for it... at least not at forums like somewhat before
For the record... I really appreciated that you took the liberty to :poke: :)
Hey guys, well I'm still folding 'quietly in the background'... getting heaps of crap WU's one after the other and still dealing with odd 'cable left unplugged by wife' issues.
Sorry I never got around to doing any crunching for XSTM, but I've been flat out with my IOU mod project and now I'm in the midst of starting a new business - Online Mod Products store.
Although I admit that I'm losing interest in folding, and often compelled to pause/stop the clients on Main as my machine starts to suffer with system resource issues when I've got 20 browser sessions open (research), Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop open, etc etc... I'm still folding. However, with all the other things on my mind and my plate at the moment, I rarely open the stats page which I used to check everyday, and only check FaHMon every few days to see that all clients are running.
I think my folding regimen will reduce somewhat in the future but I'd like to keep folding most of the time... I just may not be very active for a while.
Cheers
GAM
I try to help when I can, however there are things I don't know all the answers to either :( Wish I did though.
What client is getting the crap WU's? I've been having no trouble with bad WU's for the standard CPU and the GPU clients. SMP well I'm not using so I can't help there.
GAM, just for the record, I need you here. You've challenged my position on more than one occasion, we've kinda whipped each other to keep each other going, so... c'mon, I need a challenge! :D I understand though if you get busy (and congrats on starting your own business :)) but keep at it. If you run out of system memory when doing all that stuff, well... ram prices are cheap right now, so you could, you know, add another gig..... ;) :D
BTW, don't worry about the XSTM thing, it all flew to crap over there halfway through the month. Only reason why I didn't come right back over here when it all got sticky over there was I had pledged CPU power for the month so I held through with it. But I'm glad to be back over here 100% again though.
Money money money, is what I haven't got... ;)
All F@H 'Service' clients here. Still haven't got around to SMP...
All clients getting :banana::banana::banana:ty wu's. 'Main' which can get 600ppd is running at around 250ppd lately. Ugh!
Nevermind, they're still running full steam ;)
I know what you mean about money. I don't have all that much either. Save for months at a time to get anything that costs over $20. Felt like I saved for years for my watercooling (worth the wait though!).
I noticed the current WU handout isn't all that great either. And what sucks is they are 200-some points, take a little over 24 hours usually, yet are 6 to 8 MB worth of upload, which is about 30 minutes of upload time for me. Bleh, oh well, the science is what matters I guess :)
Now you did it Sparky...
...you got me started again (SMPs) :)
Had some glitches with hw last weeks and I just burned few wus when I tried to install f@h :(
Now watercooling working excellent IMO. Folding project_2609 100% with my C2D6420@3280MHz... CoreTemp says temps ~41c [(/ambient~25c I think) vcore 1.38volts)] :D
EDIT: Almost forgot... GL! GAM on your OMP !
Hey guys - just got back from my holiday. Gratz to mawsoccer & Windforce who have thrashed me into 5th place while i was gone! :D Dammit I wanted to hold 2nd place in the team just for a day, but it wasn't to be... :)
I've got some catching upto do, on the folding mission & reading GAM's monster worklogs too  I got 4 Fedora Core boxes fresh installed & back on here today, all nicely arranged, my storage machine connects thru XDMCP to them & I just hit ctrl-Alt & an F key to check each box is folding ok :D I don't suppose the points will be enough to claw back 3rd, but hey it's all managed nice, at least for now.
Nice temps sc00p, C2D's here have a tough old life at 60c :p:
Yo Jim, welcome back...Been extremely busy myself for the last few months, and it will go on probably until august...
I have a 6600 sitting here with TEC watercooling waiting to be installed ( on a nice ufo ), and a 6420 for wifey, but since i have no time, i do 1 task every night for the last 2 weeks...Tried bleeding the wc tonight, but since i had no hose clamps, i noticed after the split of a second it's a no go...
I hope i'll set them up before this week-end, and start making mawsoccer sweat a bit :D ( otherwise, i'll have to move some rigs from rosetta/d2ol/wcg ;) )
LOL, isn't this nice... it's like a XS F@H Reunion :D
There is a trade off between calm, cool, sedate atmosphere, and more active ones that can get out of control in a bad way. It is indeed quiet here, and pretty slow, but I think that for the most part, people who need help seem to get it.
 Whatta a pimped way to fold  :p:
Thanks... just that I lost quite a few production days for that :( ...and all fine now :DQuote:
Nice temps sc00p, C2D's here have a tough old life at 60c :p:
Yeah... CYA again in next few months :shakes:  :D (just kidding now, folks)Quote:

My friend pulled the switch and the cables from my crunchers the other day last week for a lan party and hasn't put them back yet  I need to get over there and fix that. I finally did get a PSU for my next addition, but was having strange problems with the system. Just popped a memtest CD in and almost instantly the screen filled with red :( Older crucial ballistix ram, must be from the bad batch  Lifetime warranty I believe though, but yet another frustration.
This battle should be a little more interesting once I get those others networked again though. Gotta get those points coming in, I'm about to be toasted by you sc00p!
CRAP. Our internet at home has been having strange issues lately (AV won't update, sometimes webpages won't load... strange stuff). Now my FAH clients are getting affected, and my GPU client hasn't been able to upload the last couple WUs :( Gonna go tinker with the settings again..... The joys of having satellite
Sorry to hear about all the troublems mate :( I'll drop a tear if/when I'm passing you Sparky ;) :( What if fire up a XP2700+ for you for a while... that had been off due it's too hot machine... but now it's ought to come some cooler weather here :)
But you having a own satellite  *@Ms Hilton's voice*: That's hot
Maybe it's suffering of a excess amounts of sunspots... LOL
ok... I'm not really helping you... just jabbering... what else I can do to assist besides running that one (slow) core on your account?
BTW:IIRC... did Movieman promise sometime a core for you if did wcg'ed for while?
Nah, don't worry about it. Put the XP2700+ on your account! I have some A64's probably ready to upload right now, just need to plug them back in. Oh, and I found only 1 stick of this ballistix is bad, which puts it down to 256MB from 512MB but FAH runs fine on that, so it will be crunching soon anyway :D
The satellite isn't "mine" - gotta share it with a whole ton of other direcway customers ;) The uploads are slow as heck though, downloads are fine. The reason for the GPU client not uploading is apparently not the satellite, I just checked the stanford server stats and found that several are down right now. As long as they get the servers back up before this one WU expires....
I think MM did promise a core awhile back, I forgot about that, and I think he might have as well. It is OK though, I'm not worried about it.
Seems like that I have some ocing to do... again :) *running away to tweak the clocks up*...
Finally got back here, just found out from ziddey on AIM that I need to put www in front of the address now. I thought the forums were down and I couldn't feed my addiction, I was going mad
Anyway... Sorry sc00p but I pushed you back again :D Come on, chase me again! :D Past couple of days has been interesting in the stats, you and I passed each other a couple times.
mele, have you gone lazy and forgotten our race?! I'm so far ahead of you now it's embarrasing ;)
OK guys I've been noticing a slump in the production charts recently... can't have that! Whip those crunchers back into shape! ;)
Yeah weird stats problems have occured recently too, which hasn't helped - check out my graph at EOC http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=177615 :D Something to do with Stanford testing the delivery of stats on the new v6 folding client apparently.
even with the testing phase, we are still in a downwards spiral as a team i think, maybe we need to start another campaign for new members on the forums here :D
/embeejay who still has dreams of this team rising to the top50 and maybe even higher ;)
Looks like we lost mawsoccer, one of our biggest producers. Where are you man?
