Good advice acebmxer but I don't bother to do that myself. Thanks to constant tinkering in the BIOS and the charts radaja sent me I know what the reference will be in ET6 no matter what the VTT is set on.

Update:
I was able to get what seemed to be a stable OC at 4.25GHz (8.5x500) but the voltage required was too high for my liking.
The vcore needed to be set at 1.5v (1.47v actual) which made temps shoot up to 72-73*C after one minute in prime95.
My MCH was set at 1.38v, VTT at 1.28v, and MCH reference at 0.70v. This is by no means optimized because I was unable to run prime95 for an extended period of time.

for 4.2 on air thats pretty good 73C on prime95, now if were talking water GTHO lol!!! my Qx9650 does 4.2 stable at about 65C prime 95 full load pass.. ummm i'm on air... but than again mine is an xtreme edition might have more tolerance... but if im mistaken your working with two cores right?

it should do 4.2GHZ at the same temps with more tweaking unless you got a bad seed :(

@ pmac...I used to have my E8500 in a GA-EP45-UD3R and my VID is also 1.250.

Having a strange issue, hoping someone could help me out. So my 150gb Raptor which was my OS hard drive died recently, I RMA'ed the drive and installed the replacement they sent me and now my EP45-UD3P doesn't recognize all my SATA drives, it'll consistently recognize the Raptor and the 2 Hitachi hard drives, however it will never recognize the 2TB Seagate hard drive and will only recognize the 1.5TB Seagate if I set the ICH10 controller to ACHI mode. In ACHI mode it recognizes the Raptor, the 1.5TB Seagate, and the 2 Hitachi. In IDE mode it recognizes only the Raptor and 2 Hitachis.

I checked the power and data cables, tried new data cables, switched the ports they were plugged into (which makes it appear like some ports work and others don't, because when I switch the Seagate into the Hitachi ports, the seagates show up). This makes it seem like the SATA ports have gone bad, however I haven't changed anything except the Bios and the new hard drive, I didn't have any issues prior to the failure of my primary drive. I have also tested the 1.5TB drive in an external enclosure and it works fine, so I don't think the drives themselves are bad.

Anyone have any ideas? I was playing around with the ACHI settings if that matters, but since then I have reset my bios to default settings. I also updated from the F4 to the F10 bios prior to installing the replacement hard drive they sent me. If anyone knows what's going on or has any ideas let me know, I'm considering just RMA'ing the board but I'd rather not if I could avoid it. Thanks.

Reflash BIOS and bump ICH up to 1.3.

Maybe it's been asked before, but I can't find it ...

Sometimes I set my BIOS overclock settings to a lower FSB speed or higher Vcore than I think the machine will run at, so that I can POST and get into the BIOS in case of a crash. (Note that when you make runtime changes under ET6, thay are not saved into the BIOS, unlike the action of the equivalent but almost-useless Asus AI Suite utility) Then I will set faster FSB/lower Vcore etc. at runtime using ET6. Sometimes I want ET6 to set things automatically at Windows boot time, and I have tried the "Auto load last save on next reboot" option in the right-click menu of the ET6 icon in the system tray.

However, I can't find where ET6 stores the data that it uses when it does the auto-restore. I have saved parameters under the default filename "profile.etf" and other names (on the D: partition, not C: ), but it restores settings from somewhere else that I may have saved many months ago, that are now way too fast for my now tired & aging CPU. Explorer search can't find any .etf files other than the ones I know about.

Where is ET6 getting these phantom settings? The registry? If so, where? Why aren't the settings it uses being updated when I do a save? Anyone ... ?

F4:shocked: Well that was good for SuperPi runs but I likes F9 a lot.

I like F9 too, but radaja and NoGuru made me curious about F4 and I'm gonna check this F4 SuperPi magic.:cool:

If your wanting to try F4 go with F4-4 and not the regular F4.

yea i use the regular F4 and not hicookies E8600 F4 superPi bios
but i use F$ mainly because it works fine and i dont have to always enable

running so far at 4050 stable . . 4 4 4 10 going to push this weekend for 4250 hopefully , is this new bios worth getting ?

Wanna know if there is some difference in OCing with different BIOS versions on EP45-UD3 rev.1? Currently i'm using F8.
I've installed some sinks on the VRM elements click but the one on the right (under the PSU when mobo installed in the case) was too big for my case, so i had to cut it off in half. Now it's only the low half which is on the VRM elements. For the chipset i use the stock cooling. Now i have the following questions: my CPU is Q6600 (very hot and high power consumption... likes the high vCore :D) and the mobo is just 6-phase so how much vCore is safe for 24/7 using? I think that everything than 1.4 is getting too hot but i woud like to hear other suggestions. The other thing is the NB - it's getting very hot at only 1.16V, how much can i set in BIOS for safe using?
