Both very impressive. Nice chips!

Thanks, I'm itching for the new ram. This "junk" i have now hits a wall at 4.4ghz. With this low voltage chip, can't wait to see some 3dmark numbers!

I don't like how much voltage this takes. Any suggestions? It's only stable for about a minute on prime95. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to add any more vcore.

im in a simalar spot . can game etc @4.0 but im only just getting up to 3.75ghz with 1.328v and orthos stable at 4.0 it lock in about a minute even giving it 1.4v bios whihc i odnt fancy so i backed down.
also my vid is even lower 1.1v !
Lower VID is good?
I still really don't know what I'm doing. I'm coming from 939 Opteron170 on A8n Sli.
xeons counterparts batch Q807A091 are very good as the one I had ( yes vid is 1.07v but I'm not so sure it is very important past + 4ghz . I'd say low vid > high temps ) My current xeon 's ( Q746A534 ) vid is 1.115 and stable 4ghz with 1.29v not so much higher than Q807 , and supports 540 fsb max air so nice too .
4 ghz priming with 1.20v load

or Tarowa and C1anid3' ones
I saw another good E8400 batch q745 stable with 1.21v like yours
what is your batch ?
my best ocing score so far with my e8500
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...otos/8218s.jpg
yes , I'm actually thinking the lower vid you have , higher temp with such chips . Might be check for that .
My xeon Q746 has cooler temps for 1.125 vid with same TRUE 120

you should definitively consider as lucky
I've been wanting to try 8.5x multi with this but I can't seem to input a decimal in the multiplier selection on my DFI P35. Anyone know if this is possible with my board?
its a Q741A403.. lol i havent even tested it on air.. only with a cascade
yep thats the real vcore... the guys in team japan run there chips with over 2.0v with ln2.. :D
oh and that was a 3h beching session
more screenies here

Do you think the increased demand for these chips has caused intel to produce chips inferior to the ones they were making?
Maybe they are taking all the nice ones and making E8500s?
yep I think that Intel today are selling the best 45nm chips as Xeon (Wolfdale o Yorkfield) and the inferiors for desktop
I will resale my bad E8400 and buy his clone the Xeon X3110
any feedback from E8500 batch q805a525 owners ?
I'm up to 3.6ghz on my E8400 retail from newegg with stock cooler. The specific stats on my chip are:
SLAPL MALAY Q81 0A237
This is with my voltage at 1.3v in the bios.
VID is 1.1125
hi
few more tests with orthos:

for 4,4ghz he needs 1,45v to be full stable.
regards
Q749A owners ? :)
Q806 doesnt seem to be verry good
1.39V 4.18GHz Superpi 1M Stable, this is done on the stock cooler
What did you set it at in bios?
anyone got a retail 8400 from newegg recently?
they have em in stock for $199.99
any results on those?
am wanting to pair one up with a dfi dk p35
I bought mine on April 7. The more recent ones don't seem to be clocking as high. They require more voltage. I'm not gonna give mine any more voltage until I'm ready to replace it.
so basically ... the good overclockers are the ones people got in the previous batches ? at launch etc ?
these new ones kind of suck ?
same question i was about to pull the trigger myself on one of these and now im worried i will get a crap chip..
well, crap chip is a bit extreme ... its the oc bug going trough us that want to see an actual 4ghz .. but oh well ... 3.6 ghz is more than I enough I suppose
edit: here , i got this from reviews on newegg

Pros: 3.6 right out of the box,Temps in the low 30s, 1.21volts Plus fast shipping
Cons: None Yet
Other Thoughts: Paired this with an IP35pro-8800GTX and 4GB G-Skill Good Bye AMD for now

So basically just like i said 3.6ghz
Changed back to the E8400 last night from Q6600. I was 4050 450 x 9 @ 1.29 bios, played COH but failed prime fast (few minutes).
Now 1.30 load (can't remember what it is in BIOS @ the office now) and stable. On my 780i this chip benched @ 4.5 but with way more core.
Volts above line cal enabled, sb, sb 1.5 auto, core 1.31, vFSB 1.36, NB 1.55, strap auto, ddr 2.3 900MHz (dominators default 2.2 @ 1066 so I keep it set @ 2.2 in bios, MB over volts it .1, so I don't get a hang det ddr).
I'll start pushing it tonight and hope to see 4.5 - 4.6 @ 1.4 to 1.5. Thanks!
Dave
q807 - 4ghz at 1.296 :P

hmm nice vcore but your temps are damn hot !
what vid and batch do you have ? ( wouldn't be surprised vid < 1.1)
hello guys!! i've got the same problem with temperatures like ReDRaiN..
i've got Q807À241 e8400. system in signature.. (abit ip 35 pro bios 16)
atm i don't have screens but my Voltages and OC is:
500x8=4000 with Voltages 1.2825 bios->1.250 Cpu-z->1.210 under ORTHOS.
and my Tuniq works at 2000RPM and i have temperature about 80 in realtemp..but CPU works stable. 1 hour in orthos is stable with 1.210v under load :)
only temp is high.. how it can be?? should i change my cooler to another one? or any ideas why temp so high????
Prolly borked sensors Tarantul... can you test at eg 6 x 500 and see if you still get these insane temps... did you try realtemp ? and calibrated the sensors ?
Leeghoofd ok. i will try to test today evening 6x500. and will make screens.
yea. i've calibrated the sensonrs in realtemp. but temp is still high.
btw, nice avatar pic :)
I have an e8500 Q807 chip with a 1.050 vid and the temps are definetly off. My temps are as hot as my qx9650 was at the same speed. I have 1.275 volts being pumped into the chip and its around 70c.

any info?
Does anyone find adjusting CPU VTT, PLL to help with stability with overclocking?
I don't, was just wondering. With the E8400s and E3110s I had, seemed that vcore was all that really matter so I leave VTT and PLL at the min settings.
Nah, me either , using 1.10 vtt and PLL dont no anything more or less..
there's just a brick wall where the mobo wont go further, and no VTT or PLL did help that :)
soo +1 here :)
I've just knocked my CPU voltage down to 1.275v, VTT is at 1.35v, and I'm running stable at 4.0 Ghz (500 fsb x 8).
Doesnt really need screens, just found a lower stable voltage for 24/7 use.
I use it at 4250 Mhz for benchmarks, but its not orthos stable at 500 fsb, hardly makes any difference at all over 4.0 ghz, and needs bumping up to 1.35v to be stable enough to bench.
475 Mhz fsb with 4.275 Ghz used to be 2 hours stable on my old ram, but the ram wasnt stable :p
I cant get everything stable at the same time lol, but my new ram is nice and it was cheap.
Oh, and my £66 MSI P35 Neo-2 maxes out stable at 530 Mhz FSB o.O.
Pretty darn good for a cheapo board.
My northbridge is a little high at 1.475v which is good for 475-530 mhz.
1.45v was stable up to 475 fsb, but higher then that it crashes without 1.475v.
Im not even going to bother trying to find my ram maximum, 2x2 Gb PC6400 at my speed and timings is just great
I need to put all my ram subtimings to their highest settings, but that hardly does anything to performance (63-15-15-15).
But yea, best budget P35 on the market = MSI Neo 2 for £66 in the uk.
Why do you need to do this?Quote:
I need to put all my ram subtimings to their highest settings, but that hardly does anything to performance (63-15-15-15)
I would think that this would horribly affect performance. Maybe not in all benchmarks, but in real-world settings it would. I'm assuming your CAS latency is 15, that is three times as slow as a setting of 5.
Am I correct? I'm just starting to learn about ram timings.
i'm on an e6850 overclocked to 4.1 on 1.53v my cpu can do 580fsb
is it worth getting an e8400 or e8500?
maybe wait for e8700?
This is my damn hot e8400
voltages: 1.20 fsb 1.40nb vpll:auto
Are you sure your heatsink is seated right? When i had my zalman, around the same voltage. Mine read 50c in Realtemp and 60c in HW monitor for the cores.
yeah ı'm sure but ı know there is something weird. this is my second e8400 and this is q802a.. batch . the temps are so high. my previos e8400 was q746a... and it was warmer at 1.432 v at same speed...
I'm wondering the same thing. Newegg this week received the biggest restock to date. Instead of selling out within hours they have had them in stock for days. Originally they started with a limit of 20 ... now you can put 99 in your cart. :D Link-Dink-A Doo.
Just got my 2 E8400's both Q808A442 batch pack date 04/04/2008
Wafer nr 7a1181 and 7a1139, both CPU's seem to have correct working sensors, both idling around 29-31°C at stock... VID for both 1.1125
39 now in the rig first letting it prime for a few hours near stock voltage before cranking her up...
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/e8400.JPG
K small update crancked her up to 3.6ghz so 9 x 400, needs 1.21Vcore to get into windows (not a good sign) , prime stops after 10 secs... 1.26 under load allows me to run prime for over an hour... 4ghz needs 1.38Vore to be sort of stable... (all Vcore under load via CPU-Z)
Testing other CPU, but preliminary results are the same... bummer lol
Conclusion Q808A442 pretty average batch... temps are good but needs too much voltage...
yeah I think there is something wrong with the q807 chips, they OC like crazy on lower then normal volts, but the temps on them seem to be a litle out of whack. I touched the bottom part of my heatsink and it was pretty cool, but the temps maxed around 70c for a 4ghz chip with only 1.24 volts is a little high.
Something tells me that this is a sensor issue then. If people are consistently putting low volts through the chip and remounting and making sure things are good in terms of their cooling and it's still giving readings that high, something's not right.
I mean,1.24v getting up to 70* seems pretty ridiculous when I used to pump 1.45v through my Q6600 on air and it only got up to 65-68*
Any news on how the Q809A are clocking?
Looking for a low voltage 4Ghz and have an option on one of these batches.
yeah, though I am trying to consider rma ing this and selling it and getting a quad?? or do you think I should just not worry to much about it??
I don't know...
You've got a kickass chip that does 4.0 on 1.27v!
That's pretty insane. I'd work on the temps first to a point where you know it's got to be a sensor problem or else a faulty chip. I just don't see a chip running that hot at those volts unless it's a really poor mount, or a really concave IHS or HS base or something.
yeah, the TRUE 120 that I have is lapped.
It seems fine, I dont notice anything wrong with it.
This one does 500 x 8 @ 1.28v prime stable.
http://3dxtreme.net/other/E8400%20Q7...-1.35vbios.jpg
^^^
looks like 1.336v from here :)
But that screenie is not 4ghz isn't it Sound...
Jebus, I hope there isn't a test on this.
I'll fail for sure.:)
haha :)
LOL...
Here is what the original owner was doing with it...Ive had 2 x E3110s and 3 E8400s. This one reads 10 deg higher all the time. Water temps the same. I keep getting to about 4.1Ghz and cannot push any higher though orthos stable. Dunno if its my board or just the chips crap out about 4.1Ghz.
http://3dxtreme.net/other/E8400%20Q7...rthos2crop.jpg
Get that thing up to 4500!!! :D
dnottis : needs more vcore... you could easily have that ss saying 500 x 9
Well I can bench, however I cannot orthos over 460 ish FSB on this thing. I never pulled the NB and applied AS5 like I usually do. Gonna try that and see, for some reason I think the board is causing orthos to die over ~460 Mhz fsb. I've had issues with multiple chips once I get to ~ 4.2Ghz (E3110, E8400) even with relatively low volts. Water cooling just CPU at this point on PA120.3 and DTek Fuzion. Also, the 9800 GX2 is a power pulling beast but I've got a TT ToughPower 1000 Watt PSU.
I'm using an Asus p5k-e with bios 1012.
Any suggestions??
http://3dxtreme.net/other/E8400%20Q7...48.29%20AM.jpg
any news on the recent newegg chips either 8400 or 8500 yet??
Here is mine :D :D :D
4 ghz = 1.224 v
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/4...3502wi1.th.jpg
While waiting for my water cooling . 500x8 is also 1.224 stable
That's great Makaka what batch/fpo?
Just got a Q810 from Tigerdirect... anyone see / heard anything about this batch?
My motherboard (X48) won't be back until next Friday so all I can do is sit and wait.
Wow just realized I've been a member for over a year and never said "hi".
Errr, hi!
Q807 from clubit
Well, I think I'm experiencing the dreaded E8400 degradation/burn-in. I've had to up my VCore by .035 or so to maintain - and not quite sure if it's doing the trick yet.... BUMMER.
