just loaded it
i got better nb voltage now
still testing
whaaaaaaaa my mushkins are degrading n i cant run them cas5 only cas4 2.22v
cant do cas5 with 2.3v
edit:had ram in 2-4 slots got errors with mushkin
put ram in 1-3 all good
Does this thermal paste improve with heat soak cycles?
The max core temp has dropped by 5c (63C now-->) The cpu temp hasn't gone over 59C hmmmmmm! (ambient down 2C). I likeee! MX 2 by the way.
Also, I was wondering after reading about that lower voltage chip. Lets say I was happy with this overclock but I wanted to lower cpu temps. Is the cpu voltage the only significant factor in cpu temperature? And if so, should I try reducing cpu voltage till I encounter problems? Based on experience what does too low a processor voltage effect --> errors, boot, loading op sys. ?
Thanks
Has anyone used a Thermalright HR-05-SLI IFX Chipset Cooler on this board? After thinking about my options I think I will buy another chipset cooler rather than cutting the stock one, those things are $50 bucks lol.
I can say the idle temps on my e8400 jumped about 15-20C. When setting vcore at 1.35v in the bios I now get 1.376 instead of 1.36. I had to lower it to 1.33. NB set at 1.5v gets 1.45, seems about the same. I'll have to play with it some, but so far, not that impressed.
With E8500 and X38AD314 bios I mised the 0,5. now i only get 9 someone else as have tryed
i have ordered 45-nm 2-cored xeon 3110, how much voltage will be safe for him?
i hope to use 550+ fsb.
It should be the same as the e8400. I run mine at 1.36v 24/7 and don't run it above 1.4v, but, irrc, Anand said that the max is 1.45v.
What I'm having problems with is one of my ram modules. I think its dying. It use to boot with stock voltage in the bios, but wont anymore. I know that Crucial has replace they chips with new ones. Is anyone still selling the old revision or is there other modules using the same chips that I can buy. Also, irrc, people have been getting good luck with G-Skill 2x2 sticks. What chips do they use?
i noticed @ 555fsb+ its like i'm losing sata connection 1.9v
i dont use the jmicron
any ideas?
was playin around and took our my first pair of ddr2 ocz-pc2-6400 4-5-4-15 crap promos chip just need to set trfc to 52 lol
i was
just a quick test no time to tighten timings
Give the southbridge a bit more juice, like 1.640 or 1.760.
Be careful tho, PLL and SB voltage are linked and high PLL voltages might cause CPU degradation.
Could you please report your bios settings for such levels of FSB?
I've been beating my head on the wall for the last two days, my board's stable at 470FSB but anything more won't pass more than 1-2 minutes OCCT.
My goal would be 490-495, nothing special, i'd just like to run my E8400 at the speed its capable of.
I've tryed almost everything: vNB up to 1.76, every step of VTT from 1.1 to 1.6 (using correct GTL settings), clockgen voltage up to 3.75v, vSB/vPLL up to 2v, vCORE up to 1.490, 2:3/5:6/1:1 dividers, Performance Level from 8 to 14, tRFC up to 56, bios 29/01 and 14/03...no gains in stability.
It seems to me it's like NB straps are not working. I can't believe there's no change with any divider.
Chipset and system temperatures never get higher than 40°C even at 1.7+ vNB (it's watercooled)Should I give a try to older bioses, like 1/11 or 11/28 (initial release bios, I didn't have problems with NB voltage so if it supports wolfdales i might try it aswell)?
I'd be grateful if anyone would give me some hints about wolfdales and high FSBs, my NB's surely not the highest bin but I'm not looking for crazy high frequencies, just stability under 500MHz :(
PS: my SuperTalent ProMOS are rock solid @ 1200MHz 5-5-4-11 2.17v PL 5 tRFC 36 :D
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=177
booo i cant boot with 500@8 :(
1.35 - cpu
1.5ish for NB
2.1 for memory
infact i cant seem to overclock at all
i got x48 bios tryin to flash board i replaced file in floppy n renamed it but doesnt flash just hangs there\
any other proggies to flash the board
if successfull i will post bios
There is an issue with woldale and this board for high fsb i believe.
I can't be stable more than 1 mn to occt with 500x6.
i saw a guy with 510 fsb with wofdale and this board but maybe he is lucky or we are unlucky or we make something wrong but what wrong then ?
So guys, is this a good board to get, if i want to OC my q6600 to, say, 9x450 ? I'll be using cold cold water.
I actually tried, as I stated before setting NB GTL at 67% VTT makes my system more stable while setting it at 67% of NB voltage does not (as I said, with 1.458v VTT& 1.72v vNB, if I set NB GTL to 100 i can boot into windows and run OCCT for 1-2 minutes, at 122 the OS doesn't even load).
:)
I've come to this conclusion myself, must be a BIOS/board issue.
Good boards can do 500/510 FSB, others do worse. While we can see P5Bs running higher.
Too bad the only reason why I've spent 240€ on this board back in december was looking forward to run high FSB on wolfdales
And what amazing features do we get with a new bios we've been waiting for 2 months? A temperature adjustment and an high voltage warning! :ROTF:
Don't know about Wolfdales, but for 65nm Quads (or any Quad, really) this mobo kicks ass. I've been stable for 3 days of crunching now with my Q6600 at just over 4Ghz and it only needs 1,42V, no Vdroop whatsoever - and that's with GTLs still disbaled :)
Also the PWMs are incredibly cool, I am using the stock passive heatsink now w/o any fan blowing onto it and PWM temp is like 60C or something - any other mobo would have burned and died by now (like my two IX38 did, and they were watercooled...)
4x1GB memspeed is also very nice, can run my D9GMH at 5-5-4-12 and 1080Mhz with only 2,03V :)
Only problem is, I can't get the 266 strap to work, but 450 is already too high for that I guess. Also can't boot at performance level set to 7 or below, but maybe that will be possible with some (a lot?) mem tuning - using lv8 for now.
well boys i flashed my board with x48 bios:D
its good so far
i love it can do performance level 7 instead of level 8 @ 505fsb:)
voltages are better too:D
cant go over 555fsb i wanna pump 1.85v+ to nb
i need to mod my thermaltake tower 112
that suker is heavier than my true lol n all copper:D
pity i bought a hr-05/ifx
just everest needs an update lol i lost some voltage n temp readings
OK chaps, I've flashed my mobo with the posted LP X48 image and so far no WW3 is coming in front the door, at least. :ROTF:
Anyway, except for the slightly altered boot-up screen design, no apparent differences are present, but I haven't pushed still over my current o.c. status... so much for the brand new X48, I guess.
you guys flashing the x38 with the x48bios?? :)
I still have one major issue with the old X38 1/11 bios, everytime on 8x multi with my G0...bios doesnt always hold settings. Even if it is stable it sometimes just resets back ro default. Doesnt happen with 9x multi.
I think its only with certain multi and straps.
But its very annoying.
Hi all, I just got myself a Tracer PC8500 8FE5/single sided. Is it just me or the tracer/s doesnt perform well enough? anyone know what chip on it? is it still micron or else?
What really dissapoint me is I use the setting for Patriot SL at 900 CL4-4-4-12, the other auto but when i plug tracer it stuck at C1. Is there something too tight by leaving it at auto or the tracer cant handle that timing?
Edit :
btw, it's a cheap patriot PC5300. So I guess tracer supposed to be able handling that timing .
In case it might help someone - bios settings for rock stable 4GHz (8hrs Orthos Smal FFTs) on my E8500, 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC8000, bios 11/1, watercooled CPU/NB/SB/PWM/GPU.

One more word about memory performance... After "transforming" Windows XP from LanParty P35 to X38 setup without reinstall, memory performance looks like this... I think that system reinstall might help (a lot)... Although I do not care for every MB/s - try to focus on Voltages optimisation

Hope it helps someone
My Intel Xeon X3350 is coming tomorrow, has anyone had experience with this chip and this board???
at high fsb i get noticable difference in x48 bios
first pic is x38bios second is x48 bios
Does anyone have a backup BIOS Chip i could buy if this one gets messed up doing the flash?
Dimek thanks for the template, ive used it but cant seem to boot into windows in normal mode but i can in safe mode but ... cpuz / everest / windows think i have a 4.7ghz cpu?
perhaps i need a re-install?
its becouse windows dosnt read the multi only the fsb, u dont need to instal for that
Look at Orthos on the picture I've given above - it also shows 4750MHz... cause it calculates it using actual FSB and default multi... although my CPU-Z shows correct MHz.
Strange thing, but maybe you haven't changed multi to 8 and you try to fire it up @4,75GHz using x9,5 multi ??
BTW I also need system reinstall - I'd like to do that using official SP3 for XP.... so I'm still w8ing...
cant seem to get into windows though using normal mode. ima try a re-install as i think i could do with it anyway
Ok, I can not get anything more than 3.6GHZ out of this E3110..... No clue why
Essentially, I can boot up no problems at 500FSB and 7X multi, but once i go to give my CPU some volts and try to get 8 or 9X multi's, the system will not even power on or post, and I need to reset the Cmos. Such a pain in the arse. I have tried tons of combinations:
400 x 9 works fine, 3.6GHZ stock voltage
425 x 9 nothing, no boot, no post
425 x 8 works great, no problem
450 x 8 once again, no problems, stock volts.
500 x 8 Nope, nada again.
500 x 7 Works perfect, stock volts (well nb V is up there at 1.59)
I have tried anywhere from 1.3-1.45V to get 4GHZ but no luck. I would at least expect to get a POST but I can't. When I hit the power button, the lights come on for half a second then it shuts off. So I hit the power button again, same thing over and over again.
Specs are below, I am using the latest BIOS, from 1/11 08 and have heard of no one yet with this problem, went through tons of pages here....UGH

What PSU do you have?
It's an Ultra X3 1000W. Has been nothing but perfect for me. 3.6GHZ Q6600 no prob, and 2GTXs at one point too.
I just installed my Thermalright HR-05-SLI IFX and it is working like a champ, priming away at 44* as I type this and thats passive!!!
I did have to move my GTX into the second 16X slot because the chipset cooler is blocking the first 16X slot which kinds sucks but I have no plans to go Crossfire any time soon so this will work fine.
On a side note as it has been stated the stock NB cooler pretty much sucks, when I pulled it off I had one small contact area about the size of a dime, even with such a small contact area the chipset never got above 55* but still, if you havent checked how well it is seating I highly suggest doing so.
Yeah, i already did that...5-5-5-15, even PL 8 & TRRD 4 in case if something too tight at auto, like P35 LT with GMH I must set TRRD at 4
So I guess that's the limit of the 8FE5 tracer. Only to get maximum 1174, at 1200 even Spi 1m doesnt pass . Damn, I guess god doesnt bless ballistix anymore:) sucks though...
Deciding to go for the DFI X38 Mobo for my upgrade just curious if the rest of the parts i plan on getting will work ok in it?
Intel Q9450 (When it eventually gets released in this lame country)
2 x 2gb Patriot Viper DDR2 - 800
GeCube HD3870x2 OC Edition
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Rest of my pc i will be keeping hopefully (In Signature)
I hopefully want to get the Q9450 running at 3.2 even 3.0 will be ok.
My main concern is if the Ram is a good choice. We are unable to get my brands of ram here (South Africa) and i am not looking at importing from the US.
Thanks for any replys and dont burn me at the stake if i made a stupid mistake :D
Looks ok to me. If you can get a Q9450, you won't need to stop at 3Ghz btw - it will do 3,6 with stock volts no sweat :)
Problem is high FSB rather than high mhz with these 45nm chips...
just bought another 2x2gb kit of g.skill PC8000 :D ... now i have 8gb
Sweet, let us know how they're doing on the mobo. 8GB of ram's gotten really cheap... 8GB of these Gskills would cost me only 160€ :D

Using outdoor air and thermalright Ultima-90 (lapped cpu, heatsink and lapped stock nb heatsink), was like 10C cold outside. Used 2gb of Corsair xms2 800MHz mem sticks and I'll probably pushed it even more as soon as my hyperx pc 9200 arrives, AND my custom fuzion WC set.
Define "problems" please. What's the "hard" part of running them in cas5?
Am looking to get this board soon after being no so impressed getting my 780I mobo!
Can the Thermalright 120EX be mounted vertically or has to be mounted horizontally?
If problem is the NB cooler being to wide then perhaps this would work to let me fit Thermalright 120EX vertically?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=57&subcat=399
Fantastic, but is there much clearence... is the thermalright heatpipes touching or even pushing the Lanparty NB cooler at all??
Should be able to get this working nice and stable 24/7??
Q6600 450x8
Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) @ 1066Mhz
NB can handle that nicely?
Psycho_eddie yeah - there is only a few mm of clearance on two of the pipes.
installing Vista 64 now with 8gb ram and my CPU @ 4005mhz but it seems so slow for some reason, perhaps its just me?
Naw, thats just... TIV. This is Vista. :D
Stands and falls with HDD performance, since I got my 15k SAS drive I can actually run Vista fluently
But I'm not going to... kicked it off anyways. XP Pro x64 rocks my PC since more than a year now, my very 1st install survived 5 mobo and chipset changes without a reinstall and it's definitely gonna stay :)
what is the best memory for this mobo ? in specs only support 800mhz , newbie question ;)
anything with gmh for 1gb sticks or powerchips for 2gb sticks
i like this
http://www.tankguys.com/product_info...a809f8e8790352
its team exteme with gmh
lol im finally running @ 4ghz with 8gb of ram :D 9.5x421
[edit] noes - just trying to install vista sp1 and i get a blue screen o' death for the memory management [/edit] :(
i looked til i was blue in the face and didnt find anything...where can i measure Vcore, Vdimm etc. with a DMM on the board???
Well, there's at least this post: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=896
I'm trying to decide myself whether I should get this board or the maximus formula, what kind of overclocking success have people had with this board so far with
the 45nm intel processors? I've been planning to get either the q9450 or the e8400/8500.
is there any windows based method of changing the voltages?
cant get 4ghz stable :( tried adding volts to cpu vtt and vtt (the top one) but still crashes OCCT and orthos after a few seconds :(
im using the settings from here - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2540
ive tried different combinations of multi's to get 4ghz. 8x; 8.5x; 9x; 9.5x :(
Well the reason that most people wont suggest you just go out and buy a Xeon over a Desktop part is because most BIOS' arent written to accept these chips and almost all Nvidia chips wont run any Celerons or Xeons at all. So if you are even considering this chip make sure that you have an intel chipset of some sort. I will report back tomorrow with the results. :D
I probably wont overclock but i will post my stability and stock benchmarks. :)
You shouldn't have any trouble running the Xeon. As fas as which one will overclock better, I'm sure its mostly just luck of the draw. I picked up the Xeon because its the only one I could find in stock. It was also cheaper than the Q9450s I saw on preorder. Several have ordered the Xeon so we should know something soon. Mine will be here in a couple of days.
 you give up huh only little kids give up
big reason i went dfi is to tweak n tweak not a day goes by that i dont try another setting
took me a week to learn this board n still learnin
did you set tRFC @ 30 lol try 52 i bet you pass orthos
stop drinkin tea drink some coffee
no way you pass any test with tRFC of 30
on ballistic i can pass with 22 but you got powerchips
4ghz is a mighty goal, IMHO. Not only must you have an exceptional Q6600 to reach this - also exceptional Cooling. Mine doesnt even go 3600, and i am sitting at this for months. I would just go lower for now and see hwo it behaves, eg. 3600, 3650, 3700..then you get an idea how reasonable it would be to shoot for 4ghz.
no problem ;) i was running 333/667 and 333/400
tbh i set the memory to auto - i tried setting the memory to 5-5-5-15 like mine is rated at by still no go - ill try the tRFC @ 52 later on ;)
[edit] cheers guys - you lot are awesome [/edit]
I think im going to have to settle on 3.8ghz - i can seem to get it stable and useable on that. (by stable i mean a 30 min OCCT test while ill run for longer)
the weird thing is that @ 9.5x400 i've got slower memory & L1 Cache than the pic below but ive got higher L2 cache speed?
i'm just going to try to concentrate on tightening the timings and leave it at that ;)
