Yes, the Z7S lets you adjust the CPU multiplier. I used 6x mult for testing max FSB for instance, and if you can go down with ordinary Xeons, you surely can go up with a QX.Quote:

Note: I don't have those rubber cushions installed on the left slot. That's impossible. It won't fit with the clip. It will however work like jcool, in his first post. Now I guess the choice is :\ Which one do i follow?
I get the itch that since I don't have 'real' standoffs, and the backplate is my only option, that I am NOT suppose to use the clips, and i am suppose to use the rubber cushions w/ backplate only.
Comments as to how i should mount this?
Depends how high your motherboard sits from the case standoffs.
If you can fit the spring clip with the back plate I believe that is the proper way to do it.

So get rid of the backplates, how are you gonna get the EK mounting screws through them? That's right, you aren't.
Try to mount with the spring clip, if that doesn't work install without anything. Works fine too (that's the way an EK supreme is mounted normally on any mobo, without any backplate)
Just don't tighten it too much, but it doesn't need high force anyway. Never made a difference for me, slight pressure is enough,

Take a look... (Yes, I know there is no CPU mounted and yes, I know the waterblock is flipped upside down, I didn't want the nicely polished bottom to get messed up while i was trying to fit this on).

The EK Supreme does not fit. There is a stock heatsink in the way. The waterblock sticks out over the heatsink about a good ~0.5-0.75cm.

If I point ALL the screws away, I can barley manage to squeeze it down. It gets more difficult to push down as i get closer to the CPU. I was hoping for an easy slide so that I could properly apply pressure when I installed the CPU with the thermal paste on.
So..what to do? :\
looks like you'll have to cut the hold-down or the heatsink fins.

Just grab a dremel, it's the computer users most versatile piece of hardware and it lasts many generations :up: Hack up that heatsink and slap a 40mm fan onto it.

Okay so I used a dremel (I love the dremel >_<) with a metal shaving tool and I shaved off some of the metal. Here are the results. For future ASUS Z7S WS users who use EK Supreme waterblocks, in order to fit all the water blocks correctly, you need to remove about as much metal as I did. the whole process took about 45 mins.

Left block: Had to make the curve on the left a little deeper to compensate for the NB heatsink.
Right block: Removed just enough for a perfect fit. As you can see, it really isn't that much to shave off.
Well done! I do think modding the left one can be circumvented by using another NB heatsink like the Ötzi, or using another mounting for the HR-05 though...

Btw.. i put about half a thumbnails worth of Thermal Paste. is that too much? As I was pressing down on the block, I saw the thermal paste spread evenly, and it squeezed out about 1-2mm over the edge of the IHS. maybe I put too much?
Can anyone give me their CPU 0 and 1 and NB temps please? :) Would like to have a comparison.
got my rig together..
here are my temps
CPU0: 38.5C/101.5F
CPU1: 35.5C/95.5F
MB temp: 40C/104F
Memory temp: 44C/109F
In comparison to Jcools first post and pictures, i am like 2C over his CPU temps, and 8C over for MB and memory temp. I have water cooling going on O_O, the OCZ memory cooler and the HR-05/IFX for NB. Duno why my stuff is so hot.
Is this too hot?? this is without OCing and just idle in BIOS.
the Southbridge is HOT to the touch as well O_O
My bios version is 0302

I stepped the clock to 400.
And I see my DIMM temps at:
DIMM_00: 52C
DIMM_10: 54C
DIMM_20: 53C
DIMM_30: 51C
The CPU temps are all the same, in OC. Remember these are ALL not under load and no OS has been installed. Not yet.
Also after stepping my Clock to 400. I went to System Information and looked at memory information and my mems are reported as DDR 667. The Cruicials i got are indeed DDR-800. Do i need to use a special program to see the correct reflected 800? I know a few other people had this similar question, but i was wondering if their numbers changed after changing the clock.
Your temps are fine. Don't give a damn about idle temps anyway, load temps is what it's all about.
FBdimms are allowed to reach at least 90C so no worries. Keep NB under 60 and CPU below 70 realtemp/80 coretemp and that's it.
I hit close to these values after weeks of boinc at ~32 ambient on CPU and NB, so don't worry. This stuff is meant to run hot.
