Im on air cooling and my temps stay below 70C while stress testing.
I am only at 3.9ghz @ 1.232v load

I have tried going higher, but to pretty much get anything higher I noticed I was having to put the voltage up significantly more. So, I figure its not worth the extra heat and voltage especially...considering the small amount of gains I would get from here on out(even if it was like 200mhz extra). Its simply not worth the additional stress.
going from 2.66ghz to 3.9ghz with hardly a voltage increase is more than enough for me!! =) These things are insanely fast lol

Yeah, starting to notice the same thing. Only one core barely hits 60C with 4.2Ghz @ 1.36Vcore under load (CPU-Z). I feel like there's more but if I need a special nuclear power plant for another 100~200Mhz and/or my CPU/motherboard doesnt want to run at a higher Blck, there's not much left for me:p:

Which one should I go for if I want to go over 4GHz?

I had an 3841 A628 and 4GHz was hard to get prime stable (not succeeded yet). I won't now anymore this the processor is dead (no cause known, I didn't do anything extreme at that moment).

Switched out N520 for a Coolermaster V8 and now get lower temps WITH HT on. About 75C max and most things besides prime don't go over the 60's. If your ever lookin for a nice cooler really inexpensive compared to all the other 1366 high end ones and performs as well or better...
Scythe Mugen 2 I have it and its amazing, can be had for around 45$ shipped.

Done with air ;) Specs so far what I'm looking at

Black Ice GTX360 or Xtreme360

Haven't figured out what else I want yet. Last time I did water ended up not insulating good enough and killed my board with condensation. I had the water running at -25C :D Don't plan on dropping the temps this time.

If that's your loop, should be allright. Although bigger rads are even better, a single 360mm for CPU should be doing its job just fine;)

Well, you know, subzero WC is a whole different level of cooling than WC, I wouldnt be doubting to get WC just because you failed at insulation jobs for sub zero cooling:p:

Although, just sod it and do it good this time:rolleyes: If I ever have too much money left Ill certainly get another TJ07, some board+CPU, 3 rads and TEC:cool:

raptord - While that looks nice, you need to run LinX with the All button pressed. i7's will pass Linx when not all the RAM is being used.

+1 for what Renegade said. But while i run Linx 3.8Ghz@1.2v and it fails almost instantly (stock cooler atm), i can run and game on this setup for 48 hours continously without a problem. Strange.

How exactly did you manage to kill your CPU with changing cooling paste? Did you apply too much or too little paste? Or did you not tighten it properly or overly too tight? What CPU cooler do you have? I would understand if you are using the stock cooler as sometimes it's hard to have the four prongs seated proper. Still, the CPU's thermal protection sensor should kick in if it ever gets way too hot.

jcniest5 is correct. Most likely the pins in the socket either get damaged or the CPU shifts ever so slightly off center and some pins don't make a good connection. Try re-seating the CPU before starting an RMA.

I am using water cooling (Swiftech Apogee GTZ, 6 litre water reservoir etc...). I did not do anything special, everything went ok when changing the thermal paste. It just won't boot anymore. It's a big riddle to me. Nothing like this happened before in my 25 years of pc experience.

then you haven't experienced enough TIM changes in those 25 years ;)

If you haven't already, pull it, clean everything with 99% iso and inspect your board for bent pins.

How Much do i gain with HT , I beleive that HT on is overall better for the system.. What do you people thing? its mor a "thing" to get it stable with that on, its not getting things worse, some thing might run as usual but a good deal of stuff runs pretty better with it ON... someone with good experience with this?

Encoding, folding, etc will be MUCH better with HT on. Gaming would do better with higher clocks.

Not careful are we ;) Holding my fingers but haven't killed anything with TIM changes out of probably 50 times.

Is it the regular Platinum or is it the SLI version? The reason for asking is because I have the same batch and the SLI version of the Platinum. So far I haven't been able to OC that high yet. I have Corsair DDR3-1333 6GB memory.
