Great work Sergio . Excellent temps in IBT as well.
I still think your temps are to high and not letting it pass. How much memory are you selecting for your IBT runs? If I remember right, you said your vid is 1.225? Heres a 20 pass run on my xeon (1.225 vid) with max mem at 4.4 and ram 1:1. Its late so I didnt have time to play with the voltages but I can probably go lower on some, in particular mch if I ran it at cas 5 and PL 9 instead. Ambient was 25c and temps came up to high 60s.

Thanks Sergio.
Niiiice run OC Nub
where are you guys getting the C batches from?has anyone gotten
a C batch from newegg?im thinking of getting a quad again,but i might
just get a X3380 @3.16.
Unfortunately not all the C batches are amazing, just like with any other batches.
I've seen three L847C187 in the past week and the 'best' VID was 1.2625V and the worst was 1.300V.
None were good at anywhere near 4400 without over 1.5V and they sucked
The consistent C at the moment seems to be L847C037 which I have seen mentioned in a few places.
KRich, Thank you. I honestly thought I sucked at this for a long time. Could not get stable at over 4.35ghz on my other chip. This chip made it seem easy.
thanks for your help!
i just made mistake and mistake and mistake, the vid is 1.2125
i am thinking of the temp problem too, core get 8x~90 and motherboard get 9x degree lol, although the room temp is 32 but i really dont know what the hell is going on , thinking to buy a ek supreme lt waterblock, the motherboard temp seems to follow the core temp? i just see it raise and drop with my cpu
forget the ibt a moment, would temperature cause a fatal error : final results was XXXXXX, expected XXXXXXX in prime95?
because i usually see people get rounding error rather than this, i google this but not getting much useful help.
if the temp really is a problem, damn, i dont know what to do, this wc system(w cpu loop only) is already a big deal to me. i tried to run my ram at 1001 and passes two memtest so shouldnt be a problem? my g-skill 4gb is rated 1000 also.
For the Q9650 exhaustive testing has demonstrated that any temps above 65oC WILL cause fatal errors in Prime95 or IBT, therefore is useless to use those programs to test stability if you can't keep the CPU cooler then that.
This may not apply to ALL the Q9650 but I would say at least 75% of them.
Correct Jor  in my case applies perfect if CPU sensor (not cores) hits from 75 to 77C (meaning cores on 67 to 71) and stays mostly on that temps, tests will fail 99% of the times. If CPU sensor keeps under 75C and some times hit more, but mostly on 69 to 73C tests will run perfect.
Cheers
Sergio
omg.. what can i do then?
i dont know where is the problem in my wc system
at stock speed and default setting, the cpu wont get over 50 degree under water at full load, and usually get 35 at idle
i dont know why when i raise it to above 4ghz and above 1.3v, the temp at full load go crazy, at idle is about 45~55 depends on fsb and voltage, but at full load just go 69, 7x, 8x, and even 90, damn
You've got a low VID chip which can tend to run hotter than high VID. As you've also got high ambient temperatures, there is only so much that water cooling can do.
Wish you lots of luck  and hope some fine tuning will help you - Perhaps post in the Liquid Cooling forum to see if you can get some tips on any improvements that could be made with your setup?
I dont think there going to end up releasing the 3380 so if you want one youll need to find an es.
Its not necessarily a problem with your water setup but more so with your ambient temps being 30C+. Water setups can pull alot of heat out but with ambients like that they can only do so much. IBT is one of the hottest running tests so you should probably forget about using it until you get your cooling under control.
Maybe try some HyperPi, SuperPi, Folding, or some other programs to test stability as Jor suggested. I doubt getting a different water block will help by much. The air blowing through my rad when Priming is 16c (tested using a dmm), with 30c+ambient there is no way I could Prime. If you can manage to Prime at 70-75c with your high ambient room temps I would say your water cooling is doing a good job.
Having a hard time getting stable at 489x9. Anyone have any suggestions? Here are my current settings. Boots fine, but blue screens at soon as I start prime. System specs in sig.
Thanks

If you have 9600s, are you wanting to run them at cas 4 1:1, and have you checked if thats even stable for your ram? My board undervolts vdimm, so 1.94 bios is really 1.90, yours may not and only need to be 1.90 bios.

Mine idle at 25C, third core gets stuck at 34.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...ss281/temp.jpg
um...just noticed there is no "cpu temp" in my everest 5.02.1750, and my mb couldnt be recognized too, my mb is p45-ud3p v1.6
would this be a problem meaning any faulty hw or it just doesnt matter? thanks!
just found there is only 1 guy having the same problem as me from google, looks like the motherboard temp is the cpu temp and the aux temp is the motherboard temp
so it shouldnt be a problem now
I was wondering myself about the Drive Strength profile and what it does......Maybe loosens/tightens some sub timings is my guess.
Also, I just got a nice chip and cant wait to push it. 1.16v Small FFT/Blend stable at stock (VID 1.225). 1.28v at 4.05Ghz fully stable, and Super Pi benchable at 4.608Ghz 1.4v (CPUz load for all). Havent tweaked that high yet.
OK, I've been lurking here for quite some time. I'm trying to get my chip to 4.4 or 4.5 prime stable.
I really just need the opinions of you guys to tel me whether or not it's a lost cause.
I got an ep45-ud3r to replace my p5q dlx a few days ago. I am a bit happier with the new board over the old one. I had an ep45 on my other pc with an e8500 and have been very happy with it.
The rig in question...
I'm running the f9 bios
cooling is fuzion v2 + mcr320 + mcp355 (petra's top) + 3x yate loon med
OS is vista 32
My memory is 2x2gb ocz reaper hpc 8500
My q9650 is a 1.2500 VID
here's where I am right now... The settings below have been priming small fft for 1.5 hours or so without errors
Always runs of prime 95 small fft for stability.Code:******Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.)******

Prior to these settings I have successfully gotten stability at the following:
UD3R
4200 (467x9) @ 1.328v core (cpuz)
P5Q
4000 (445x9) @ 1.3000v core (cpuz)
4100 (456x9) @ 1.3125v core (cpuz)
4200 (467x9) @ 1.3560v core (cpuz)
4250 (473X9) @ 1.36875v core (cpuz)
besides that, where are you guys getting the pl8 or pl9 option in your bios? I haven't seen that anywhere.
preemptive thanks...
and nice clocks btw guys. I hope I can get close.
I'll be familiar here, at least until I get stable near my goal.
Hoss, tried that template. Wouldn't even boot with 1.8 vdimm. Upped it to 1.9 and booted. Failed prime after 2 test. Temps look good however. Here is a screenshot. Three of my cores don't read under 37 as you can see. One that does read 27C at idle.
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/4036/captureihp.jpg
I just tried upping the vdimm to 1.94 and that gave me a bsod when I ran prime.
You are using the low voltage ram, right? If so and its not even booting up at rated voltage and slower than rated speed you might want to run memtest first. Clock it down to a know stable speed with ram at 1200 and run memtest, you may have a bad stick.
Now I might be having second thoughts about the lv 9600 ram I was going to get.
I was holding my finger above the buy button on those tridents all day today.
Well 4250 proved stable last night. Any help on lowering my core voltage would be greatly appreciated.
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1102/...rimestable.jpg
Yes, I am running LV ram. I will clock it at something low and test the memory now and report back.
Thanks guys.
Here are the results. Ram looks good. I have the vdimm at 1.9 though. I'm going to lower it now and see if it's still stable.
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/1022/capturezxk.jpg
Wouldn't boot with anything less then 1.86 for vdimm, however I have gotten an error with memtest @ 1.86 so would prob be stable with a min of 1.88.
I don't know what the deal is.
Failed prime after 10 minutes.
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5866/captureqsp.jpg
Test each stick individually at 1.80/1.82, if they wont pass at there rated voltage and stock speed id rma them.
Try 480x8-250a for 3840mhz cpu, this will also put your ram at 1200. If that passes then try 480x9-250a for 4320mhz. I cant boot with certain dividers with my OCZ LV Platinums. I also agree with KRich, not enough vcore will cause prime to stop responding.
GSkill f2-9600CL5D-4GBPI ordered. I hope it is good. I hate paying this price for ddr2.
^I just ordered a set of the OCZ blade low voltage ones.
Link
2x2gb 1.8v 5-5-5-18
$85 out the door from the egg. All I could find was 9200 though, the reviews said it would do 1200, so we'll see. Get me off that 1:1 divider. At half the price of the tridents 9600 or the PI 9600, I'll be happy with stock speed @ 1150.
IIRC same chips as the tridents. Elpida (sp) I think
Just to reiterate my above question (last page) ... Do you guys think I have a chance of getting 4400mhz stable out of my 1.250 VID q9650???
So what is the go-to stepping for these?
theres only one, E0
Tested both sticks in single channel with positive results. Both sticks passed >400% coverage in memtest @ 1.80vdimm/600mhz.
Screenshots:
Stick 1...
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2241/stick1.jpg
Stick 2...
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/7788/stick2.jpg
Put both sticks in and boot using the same settings as above and get mem errors in memtest. Bumped MCH voltage up to 1.4 and get errors even faster. :(
you guys are amazing, the fatal error final results was xxxxxxx, expected xxxxxxx in prime95 is due to the temperature
i changed to a ek supreme lt and temperature droped a few degree, but i still get core 1 and 3 higher than 67 under 1.4v @ 4.4ghz
so i try lowering the vcore and as the temperature drop, it gives more successful tests in prime95
but because i am not putting enough vcore, bsod come soon
so now i changed the block, and am going to the rad's fans
i am using this
http://www.coolermaster.com/products...ate=36&id=6037
and
swiftech mcr320
the dba is actually sick, it must be louder than that
so do u have any suggestion on fan that isnt louder than this and can lower the coolant temp more?(closer to room temp)
there isnt much choices in hongkong but please still suggest and i will go looking for
thanks
Well, the scythe fans have sony-made fluid bearings which will last a lot longer than the coolermasters, especially mounted flat (like on a radiator). I never have tried your fans though, so I can't really give a honest comparison.
Hi.
This is my 24/7 settings, 30 loops IBT maximum stress level stable, all aircooled, bios 1307.

OC Nub,
First: Congrats on that CPU, is a monster!!!!!
Second: I just looked at your everest numbers at 4.5GHz /500FSB / 600MHz DDR2, and compared to my 4.2GHz / 467FSB / 560MHz DDR2, and it is strange that my L2 cache bandwidth in everest (its where the 2x6MB cache is) is higher? How can this be? I think we have the same setup, only I have Asus board and you have Gigabyte... Is that normal? Would care to post that everest bench at 4.2GHz / 467FSB / 560MHz DDR2 for a comparison? I sure can't clock my CPU at 4.5GHz!

^ congratulations. My new memory comes monday, I can't wait.
thanks :toast: q9650+ep45: very capable platform
Thank you Sergio.
Napalm: That is insane. Very nice
Thank you.
You order the 9600 GSkills?
Marcio: I am not sure why the numbers are lower there either. If I get time I will test at 4200mhz this weekend. This is another test I ran, similar results as before.

ocnub - keep it up ^
thanks guys :toast:
faster mouse but the human element also needs upgrades.. look at my clicking.. brain/eyes/fingers/mouse/mouse pointer.. i need faster communication between all these :D
Amazing job OC Nub and andressergio...I have no idea how you're getting 4.5GHz...amazing. Could you two please post your BIOS settings? Mainly the voltage and mem settings.
Nope, the ocz blade 9200s. I couldn't stomach the $159 price for the tridents or the pi. Thes were $85 with free shipping. Every single review I've read says they will do 1200. We'll see.
Very nice chips, guys
Thank you.
Testing HyperPi with tighter timings.
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/202...orsettings.png
Thanks andressergio, looking forward to it :)
So OC Nub, this screenshot you posted, those voltage settings are what you used for 4.5GHz right? (and probably the same settings andressergio is using...) If so, I tried those... :(
No matter what combination of random settings I try...load temps stay under 75, ram is 1:1, small FFT 4th core ALWAYS FAILS INSTANTLY. I'm starting to think THIS chip of mine is just limited to 4.25 :(
I think my ram is good, ...ram or ram timings can't make small FFT fail instantly can it?
Thanks for the help guys :D
seam22: on H20 you should be able to get an Q9650 to 4.5ghz easily...
Try running the CPU Vcore at 1.5v and the MCH at 1.46v, it should run just fine, leave the rest on auto. Thats quite a lot of voltage, but to see if you chip can "do it" you could try that. :)
Sean this template is what Tom and are are using for 4500/1200 stable keep in mind that mems are the PC29600 PI and this is using tight timmmings, you can change just PL8 and tRFC 50 and leave the rest AUTO if you want and use standard not turbo.
Hope you make it mate

Try using both clock drives at 1000mV and setting both clock skews to 0. My board won't do much if the clock skews are set above 0.
Thanks for the template. That was extremely helpful.
Although my chip (1.25 VID) doesn't want to do 4500 with the template, I did squeeze a 4300 out last night 10 hours small fft. I dropped mch down to 1.4 and ran vcore at 1.425. Now I'm trying to lower vcore to get it under 1.392 loaded.
I will butt heads with this chip until it does 4500, i'm determined.
I tried pumping up the voltages, no luck, 4th core still failed small FFT instantly.
Thanks alot Sergio, I'm sure others will appreciate your template too :)
Unfortunately, no luck for me. The 4th core kept failing :( Ram is good. Tried more vcore and adjusted the ref values 1 or 2 notches, still no luck.
Thanks OC Nub...I did run my mem at slower speed and loose timings when I tried out Sergio's template above.
Thanks. Tried this, no luck though, didn't make a difference in terms of stability.
Conclusion:
Well, thanks everyone, I really appreciate all your suggestions...but I've been overclocking long enough to know that my chip is just limited to around 4.25GHz :( I've spent like 22hrs straight trying endless combinations of ref values and overvolting everything...no dice though :(
Also, the fact that my GTX 295 block is in the same loop as my Q9650 doesn't help my temps at all...as you all know, the GTX 295 generates a crapload of heat
My plan is to stick with 4.25GHz and tweak my ram as much as possible.
Really wish I had another chip to test.
One day when I get time I'll take the 295GTX out of the loop to see what happens. For now though, I'll just settle on 4.25, I've wasted way too much time for no real world gains...which is ok...cause this is one of my hobbies :)
I know this is not the right thread but it is my favorite thread and has helped me a great deal in learning to oc 45nm quad cores. Put the 9550 back in for testing. 1hr 30min and going, 4350mhz.

Damn, I hate you two guys now  Haha just kidding, great work on that 9550. You guys have great RAM, I can't afford to spend that much money though :( I will keep trying on my 9650 later on.
Good work with the GSkills Sergio. Maybe I will pass on this one lol. Cannot boot at 530 with your settings, very hard to do. Congrats.
Thank you sean.
Hi guys.
I just bought QX9650 ES - what GTL settings are u using? Is 0.67 will be fine.I have DFI P45 UT.
Hi,
I'm running my Q9650 on the following settings:
Vcore 1.387v BIOS (1.376v CPU-z) on my X48-DS4 board. The VID on my CPU is 1.275v, so quite high imo.
Any tips on getting to around 4.2Ghz whilst keeping the Vcore under 1.4v? Do I need to worry about VCore over 1.4v?
I'm not sure why but folks appear to be hitting 4.2 to 4.5Ghz with ease at lower voltages than me. What ia holding me back do you think?
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/7579/20090810202615.jpg
hallryu: x48 is not the best for quads, you will have better luck with a good p45 board.
It's alright to go over 1.4 but temps are an issue. You don't want temps above 65C reported by RealTemp. Anything above that and you won't be able to maintain stability.
Ok, got the new sticks in. OCZ blade 9200, low voltages. This is my preliminary run for stability. Still going for 4500 eventually.

what do you advise : enabling or disabling loadline calibration on a Asus board ?
I've read that enabling llc wasn't good for the cpu.
