I just finished my own installation this morning with the new Asus Palm MB, and the new core i7 3.2. Not sure what I was expecting but it doesnt seem any faster and bench marks are a bit lower in games as shown. I'm returning and sticking with my SE2 and 9770.
According to those graphs, it seems to show that the video card is getting slightly more bottlenecked with this new cpu/chipset since there is an actual improvement from 16x12 and below. But even then its only slightly.
Yea, right now I have two 280s in sli and my far cry 2 scores were only different by two points! between the two systems.

even if i leave the ram unlinked at 1600 and increase the cpu to 1601 and above it will still spark the drop
from that point onwards, any increases to clock speed will only yield performance boosts from the dropped point onwards

Trying to reach 3.4Ghz on a Q9550 and I think the NB voltage is what's slowing me down :/ More info in link in sig.
Tried them settings to,again it fails strait away in prime95 i think i got a bad chip just to scared to put more than 1.5vcore to achieve 4ghz.I guess i got a bumb chip and will have to live with it after paying mega bucks for it and cant even get 4ghz on it well pxxxxed off.Or is it i got a bad m/b that does not suply the right voltage .

Yep for sure cpu THERE IS NO WAY i can prime this qx9650 at even 1.45 vcore in bios i set it to 1.4000 but as this board overvolts its really 1.4500.I can prime it at 3.8ghz at vcore reading of 1.3900 seem to be no problems there.

With these settings it p95 for 40 mins then failed.

At stock settings it passes everything prime95 & intel burntest .Im using bios 1202 which seems to be good because now i can do 1600fsb and no freezes ,all orther bios ver it hard locked up after a bit.The vid is 1.25 ive tried really every thing i just dont know if its the chip or this board that is a bad O/C .Im really gutted that i have spent all that money and cant even hit 4ghz with in safe vcore like everyone else.I decided to go watercooling cpu and fusion block to keep temps low but really i think i wasted alot of money there to as i cant even bump this chip up at safe vcore my goal was 4ghz with this chip but it looks like 3.6ghz is limit (at safe vcore of 1.32 with vdroop and 1.37 idle.

Hi tried 1) PLL & VTT at AUTO NB 1.48 & vCore 1.475.and it did run longer this time passed the first run then failed which it never did before.Option 2 failed straight away.The weird thing is when i ran your option 1 it passed the first run and now when i try again it fails again staright away.All this was done on blend test on small fft it failed straight away.Do u think i should RMA my chip as its a pretty bad performer would intel have it back as it passes on stock settings.Or will i just have to put up with a bumb chip really anoyed that after spending so much money on this chip it cant even do 3.6ghz without raising the vcore above the instel spec for 1.36vcore.Anyways round to send it back would be really helpful.

The RMA thing for QX CPU's for being a poor overclocker is something to ponder about because they have unlocked multiplier meant for overclocking thus their hefty price & I think they should be admited. On the other hand there are clear lines as to keep the CPU operating under stock condition.
I definately think poor QX's should be replaced immediately because that's their whole & only purpose, rest of CPU's that don't oc are something completely different. But that's my opinion & I don't know how it works in real life.
In case you send it in for RMA you should mention something like: you bought a QX9650 instead of Q9650 for some mild oc to be done thru the Asus CPU level up function but pc locks up on the Striker board & on 2 other boards also.
It's just an idea.
so we can assume it is the cpu that is the culprit here a bad chip that needs to much vcore to overclock .Oh well i will have to find away to RMA it back now aint gonna be easy as it runs fine at stock and intel only garantees it to run at stock 3ghz at 1.25 max.This might seem harsh but im gonna have to do the extreme on the chip that it does not start again.Meaning not overvolting it or overheating it but something else which i will not mention here.And all i will say is it died dont no why they can check it for what they like there will be no eveidence of overvolting.Thats just how pxxxed of i am being sold a crappy chip at that price i could have built a whole pc for the price of this chip and probally overclocked it to 4ghz no problem.

Is there anyway to alter anything for the 3rd core that fails all the time as every orther one works fine when using prime95.Seems to be the weakest link.

After I painted my board. I used AS5 on my mosfets(also someone at TPU said that kind of paint plastic paint can absorb heat(they use that plastic in heat gloves) and can lower volts temps hard to believe. only testing can prove.....)under the water blocks. I had to lower my voltage just a touch .25 I remember trying to go lower maybe not but I remember it from before. Now I don't water cool this chipset. I have but I have found it pointless and that it's really for looks maybe? IDK I have been up to 4.8Ghz with a QX with this E6700 I have cranked the voltages with water and no help.
450FSB and then it's just like the quad no more. Even on phase it does not like it past 1800-450 FSB.
Which should be top out for the quads....
IDK I've always been AMD before this....only 775 board I have had. I can say this. This board has been a trooper and has held up to some major f ups.

I thought you were just waiting for some BP fittings? I got mine, got up and running but the acrylic failed on my XSPC res dumping water all over my left foot (it was mounted outside the PC). Got a new res in (no acrylic this time) and should have it back up by New years day.
I was actually waiting for BP BlackFreezer, I already got it and its been sitting in its box for 2 months already.

Just got my striker 2 today, got it off ebay for a great deal, its never been used, i dont know if i should set it up, or dump it. I have 2 questions, will this board do 550 fsb ? and how do i flash to 901 bios or 1102 ? does asus have a flash utility ? i have only had gigabyte boards to this point, so kinda new to asus, thanks for your help.
ASUS website has the BIOS files. go to BIOS then find EZ Flash and that will let you flash the BIOS, you can either use a floppy or USB drive.
It will be kinda hard to achieve 550 Fbs, depends on how high you want your RAM, how much RAM you have, How many slots are populated, what temps will your NB reach, how good your chip is etc.
Wow i thought would 550fsb easy, well i want to get 510fsb stable is that possiable ? i dont see the raid drivers on the disc that came with the board ? are the raid drivers on the asus site to ?

First i would like to know why the multiplier change and its not stable. I HAVENT INTEL STEP ENABLED.... Is an issue??

500Fsb will be a lot easier to achieve with a dual-core and 2gbs of RAM, you might be able to achieve what you want, but you will need patience (and good cooling).Quote:

Get BIOS 0901 and put it in a USB drive and use EZ Flash which is located in BIOS.

I flashed to 1104 bios the latest, had a bad flash, couldnt get the board to restart, took out the cmos battery for a hour, all is good now. Ok my next question is, this bios is very confusing, im used to gigabytes, i have no idea where to begin to overclock this thing.
The reason why I said 0901 is because 0901 is known to be the first BIOS to be 99% stable on most cases, but 1104 is fine. I like to start from the first BIOS then start updating if I run into problems or if I see my overclock gets stuck.Quote:

As soon as you get in BIOS, in that screen you are able to change the FSB. You first have to set it to Manual, then Unlinked and that will open the FSB menu so you can change it to any number you want.Quote:

You dont see what will be your CPU speed until you reboot (and you only see it if you have ROG Logo disabled). I know, it sucks but at this point, you should know the basic clock speeds :p:Quote:

Actually most of the boards that I've tested/used didn't show the target CPU frequency in the BIOS apart from the Abit IP35 Pro, the Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS5R and the Foxconn BloodRage.Quote:

Yeah not to big of a deal, much rather have a solid bios, and i have a sweet calculator:). This board is alot of fun trying to overclock when you been in a gigabyte bios for a long time. No offense taken. These dividers are really weird, gona take time on this board, but its sure fun.

Yeah i will need it, from just overclocking a little, i got major hard drive corruption, had to reinstall vista. I find this board very hard to overclock. I do see a guy in the early part of the thread, that had 550fsb going, hoping he will answer my pm, i need settings, just to much time to figure this board out, i need somebodys settings as a starting point.
Well after playing with this board, i find its very hard to run linked, synced in combo, as i read from anadtech, thats what gives you the best performance, i cant stand the dividers on this board, very very limited on dividers, The read scores are great on everest, but there a huge drop on the write and copy, should be within 1000 points of eachother, there like 2000 points lower. Just not my cup of tea this board, i thought i would try it, and i really dont like this board at all. Thanks slim for your help, this is the worst overclocking board i have ever seen, i guess what i heard is correct a evga ultra sli 790i smokes this board, good luck guys.

I hope you got P1 and P2 enabled, maybe that will improve your writing speeds.
Also, for high speeds, like 2000Mhz RAM and 1800Mhz FSB, you might need a good amount of NB voltage, maybe 1.56-1.58.
I have p1 p2 enabled. I didnt try that much nb volts, this board runs really hot i have noticed. This board has corrupted my hd 3 times i have had to reload vista, im sick of it, im selling and moving on, i dont know what prompted me to buy this board in the first place, oh yeah the anadtech article, then i read the thread here, and was to late, i had hopes of just getting 515fsb stable:rofl: i cant even get 500fsb period, there are just so many better boards for the same price, RAMPAGE EXTREME KICK BUTT BOARD. And to clock it high you need a lot of patience and trial and error, and you might never hit a decent frequency if you're not a very experienced overclocker.
There are several people ( who know what do to and how ) hitting 550+ FSB with Dual-Cores and 440 to 475 with Quad-Cores on the Striker II Extreme.

Also I don't have a fan or anything on the waterblocks.......it's just running in the open.
I know Bench this board is very hard to overclock, i can overclock a gigabyte board well, this is a whole new level, but its a challenge, here is my latest clock, if i only understood what the different things in the bios meant, that would help. Im finding this board needs rather hi nbv im at 1.60, just to stay stable, that seems rather high for a low fsb like this. Acually DaMulta, i dont think there are alot of things in the bios, i find it rather short of tweaks, besides the usaual stuff. The thing i dont understand is the linked, and unlinked, when i run linked i get bad performance, and there are really no dividers, the 5:4 and 3:2 are useless, unless your running low memory speed, or a really high fsb, that dont leave much. I think the best performance is on unlinked, thats where i am now.
:clap:495 FSB, that's great hang in there, your doing great with a nvidia chipset. Post your BIOS settings, share them and get Bench's suggestions, you may reach that 500 FSB and draw a few of us with you. Just some quick tips, to get more reading speed, you might want to lower your TRC in BIOS, but watchout, you dont want it too low because it will be a no boot. Try decreasing 1-by-1.
Also, are you using water cooling? I would like detailed description on what cooling you using for CPU, RAM, NB, SB. Thanks
Im using all stock cooling for now, until i decide if i want to keep this board or not. Here is my latest run, and im going for more, the only thing i dont like about this run, is its forced me to run a pl 10, i was hoping for 9, that kills some of your peformance, but i will keep pushing. Havent run any stable test, if i could get this stable for my 24/7 use, i would be a happy camper. For some reason when i try to put in 2000 in the memory block, it goes to 1968, but when i put 2050, then it goes 2050, it wont give me 2000 ??. Sorry slim, on the board is all stock cooling, on my cpu i have ohh i forgot the name, its a sweet cooler, something with a X 4 copper heat pipes with alu fins, and a fan on it, cpu is running 35c.
Well did some more clocking, and got a little further, i think i can get some more out of this board, but heat is starting to become a issue, nb is hot, sb you can fry eggs on it, so i think this board to really go to much higher you need better cooling, either water or good air, need to remove all the heatsinks and put some good thermal compound sure would help. Finally got the memory up to 2000, i will keep pushing see how far it will go on stock cooling, i think im getting the hang of this bios, somewhat.
The reason why you dont get the RAM speed you want (2000 shows 1968) is because of dividers, you need to play with the FSB too when that happens so you can get the numbers right.
You have got a pretty nice overclock right there. Make sure you copy/paste the BIOS settings we have in this thread and post your numbers so other people can try :D
500 FSB :clap: you got to like that board, if not you are a very serious overclocker. I am tempted to move my E8500 to a Striker II Extreme to see how it overclocks, currenlty have a QX9650 Quad core and do not think I could reach 500 FSB with that as it creates too much heat.:up::up:Quote:
