Hi , can anyone tell me what is a safe level for the QPI/Vtt voltage and also CPU PLL aswell on i7, thanks in advance
Just installed and havent got my water block yet so on stock cooler , its all a bit strange this bios compared to my last platform

Actually I solved 1/2 the problem. I don't know why but clearing my CMOS again worked. I don't know why it didn't work in the first place but I have that problem sovled :) Just in case I need to clear it again is there anyway to save my current bios settings?
Also I'm still having a long pause after my computer posts and before windows starts to load. I checked the boot log but in my inexperience was not able to solve anything; maybe someone here can help me out.

see below for intel max v's.
not sure what to believe though really.
many high end memory providers set their xmp to qpi of 1.55v when running at 2000.
Another rulle of thumb some folks use - regarding mem voltage is to keep mem v no higher than 0.5v than qpi.
So if you set qpi to 1.35, you should be able to set mem v as high as 1.85v
I know this is not much help but it gives you an idea how messed up max v's are for i7 right now.
The main thing to keep an eye on is your temps, particularly at high v's with HT on - especially if on air (vs water, tec or phase).
update: Put in an old NIC 3c905B but of course can't find drivers it's so old BUT my router does light up that I have a connection so
could both my onboard nics be f'ed up?
OK this is a strange one, not sure but I think it's something with the UD5. Was fine this morning all of a sudden I have no internet and I see this:
Active Public Networks, it just keeps flashing between "none" and "Identifying"
Has been doing it for a over an hour, I have a 4 port router so tried changing ports nothing. Other 3 comps have internet no problem. Hell the lights on the router don't even show it's plugged in that's why it's the board.
Tried both ports on the board still nothing, I didn't install anything or even reboot, just started happening. I have auto updates off so it's not that.
HELP!
Anyone OCing this board to 160 bck with 12gb of ram, with 6gb its ok, wit 12gb it has hard time passing 140, anyone have any settings, this is for a friends system, thanks.
Thanks for that tip.
Well this has gotten stranger by the minute, after i had the realtek pci NIC in I had a crash when it rebooted windows would no longer install the driver for that card (that it had originally installed!) so I plugged it back into the motherboard nic and now it works!
I have no idea why
I am using Win7 x64 and being a beta could be the reason.
First off, I am running the F6a BIOS.
I am having a heck of a time trying to get an i920 to POST at 3.2GHz with an EX58-UD5 and 12 GB of Corsair XMS3 CM3X2G1600C9. I downloaded a PDF from Gigabyte on how to overclock to 4GHz, so I am mildly familiar with he more commonly used variables in the BIOS.
I tried 20/160 to get an easy 3.2GHz
I have tried the profile in the RAM to get it to DDR3 1600 and I have tried it manually.
I have tried upping the CPU voltage to as high as 1.4 volts.
I have tried upping the QPI voltage to as high as 1.4 volts.
I have tried turning off Turbo mode as well as all the power saving modes that I could find.
I even tried the RAM at DDR3 1333.
My goal is to have the RAM at DDR3 1600 and the CPU at 3.2GHz for ffdshow and encoding. I got a Q6600 to 3GHz easy on 8 gigs of RAM, so I am wondering why I am having a hard time with what I believe to be a relatively easy task.
Any BIOS configurations and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.
that seems odd, from what i know lots of folks have had trouble ocing 12gb. have u tried just 3 sticks
Ive got the same 12Gb of memory as you.
This works or me on F5g, F6b, F5 final:
Select xmp profile as this automatically sets the correct memory and qpi/Vtt volts (1.65/1.35). The memory will actually run at lower volts than this if required. Memory will run at 1688 10/10/10/26 automatically.
Set the memory multiplier to x8.
Set Bclk to 211 and multiplier to x19 gives 4 Ghz.
Set processor volts to 1.41875 in bios. They will be much lower in CPUZ. Only with a decent cooler.
Set Uncore manually to give 2x memory speed = 2x1688=x16.
Set LLC on.
Set IOH to 1.3v
Dont forget to set the PCIe to fixed value at 100.
Turn off HT.
Performance Enhance: Standard.
Turn off processor turbo mode.
I've typed the above from memory so may have missed something but if you have problems I will check my settings. This on the Extreme MB.
Memory bandwith 29G/bs according to Sisoft. Prime95 2 hours max 75C ish.
Much lower for games (60C).
NOTE:ABOVE CORRECTED IN EDIT.
That did the trick for me. Must be either the tad bit higher voltage for CPU or ICH (which I did not change before).
I am idling at around 45-49C and ffdshow load gets into the mid 60s. I do not care for benchmarking, so I doubt I will get much above that. I did not enable LLC. In addition, I did not go so high with the Bclk, my memory is set at DDR3 1520MHz (1.65v which I believe is stock for this set), and I still have HT enabled. I am thinking about easing off the CPU and ICH voltages a bit because of this.
I have a question though. Since I will not be getting another system for at least a year or two, are the following voltage and temperature readings fine for long term use?:
*All measurements using latest Everest Ultimate*
Voltage:
CPU - 1.38v (is this the REAL voltage and the BIOS one is erroneous due to vdroop?)
Temperature:
"North Bridge" - 55-60C
EDIT: While I am at it... when I play a video through ffdshow, the CPU speed changes between 2.2GHz and 3.6GHz (the speed I settled on) throughout the movie. I assume that is the i7 speed step throttling working. Is that actually good for the MB/CPU power circuitry to have that happen repeatedly or would deactivating all powersaving features be better for long-term reliability?
possibly the cpu's IMC is just a tad fussier than most... so yeah, maybe adding vcore is the trick there... IOH shouldn't matter too much, but if it works I guess it works. :)
I corrected some typos in my original post. Should read IOH not ICH and 1.3 volts not 1.2v but it seems to work for you.
Your idle temperature seems much higher than mine (39C). I use CPUZ and Realtemp 3.0. HT raises the temperature a fair bit but I don't use it.
Stock for that memory is 1600, 1.65V, Uncore 1.35v whuch should all be auto loaded when XMP is selected in bios.
New BIOS (released 27.02.09):
GA-EX58-Extreme - F6c
GA-EX58-UD5 - F6b
GA-EX58-UD4P - F7c
GA-EX58-UD3R - F5c
GA-EX58-DS4 - F6b
Fix cold start (QPI / Vtt bigger than 1.280V)
I have just flashed to the official F5 bios and it has fixed my dual boot issue when I run my ram at 1600MHz and it also requires less voltage for my cpu oc. I am now happy with my pc.
Does anyone use the the bottom pci-e slot for SLI with a dual slot gpu like the 260GTX? I tried doing it but was afraid I might crush the pins that goes into the reset/power/HD/LED port. It seems my 260GTX is just too long to make it fit down there.
Thank you stasio for keeping us informed
How many of you are getting past 200 BCKL? now i have tried a few bios, and F5G are the best one, keeping stable at 1.34 QPI/VTT 200 BCKL.
F6B was a no go at the same settings, not even 1.40 did the trick to even post, F5 Final were tricky, did not load windows either..
1.26 at 3.8Ghz, but heat is getting to me :) stock cooler and 100c after a minute, hangs before that at about 90+. still amazed it can do this at stock cooling, good cpu?
#3841A627
Someone got any good tips on high BCKL?
And also, EasyTune 6 is just crashing with MFC thing... would be sweet to use this though, why doesnt it work ?
should i go with EasyTune 5?
cheerio :)
ET6/GETS is fixed with F6a or higher (on vista 64bit).
To bad S3 is sill buged with F6c.... need to wait for F6d. :p:
OK, so official F5 is on the gigabyte website now, so which is newer F5 or F6A?
newest:
for ud5 -> f6b.
extreme -> f6c.
I am currently running my CPU at 3.6GHz using 1.41875v and the IOH is at 1.2v. All other voltage is Auto or at the xmp profile of my RAM (which is running at 1520MHz). Multi/Bclk is 19/190.
All CPU cores - 45-50C idle and <65C non benchmark load
Motherboard diode - 50-52C
Northbridge - 60-64C
I am running all fans at 7v in a Lian-Li A20B case. I read as long as CPU temps are less than 80C, all will be well. I am pretty sure I will always be under that. What does seem high though is the Northbridge temperature. It went up around 10C because of the OC. Is that normal, even though 1.2v into the IOH is less than the 1.3v prescribed?
Simfan: what kinds of voltages do you think I can get away with having the RAM at xmp timings (9-9-9-24) at 1520MHz?
I tried DICE for the first time today and F6b hoping it was better than F6a, had to flash back to F5g to get over 190. I managed 222 x 21 boot and 220 x 21 bench 3DMark 06. I wished easytune would work with F5g...
http://service.futuremark.com/result...&resultType=14
I found my final settings. Nothing too extreme for this site, but I am happy.
CPU: 3.66GHz
RAM: 1544MHz
Cpu Multi: 19x
Bclk: 193
RAM Multi: 8
XMP Profile On

Turbo: Off
Speed Mode: Standard
Temps:
CPU Cores: 38-41C Idle 65-70C Load (Using Everest System Stability Test)
Northbridge 57-61C
Motherboard 48C
Simfan, thanks for the tips :)
F5g (for the Extreme) must be one of the only BIOS's I haven't tested yet. It sounds pretty good and I wouldn't mind trying it out.
Does anyone know where I can find it?
Cheers
Ced
Thanks,
I never noticed the "previous BetaBios" link... lol.
so here we go again ->
F6d for Extreme
F6c for UD5
http://www.jzelectronic.de/jz2/news....ige2&z=1&ssl=1
But S3 still dont works (so im not gona try it).
I wish we had change logs for these beta's, im going to keep F5 official, working great so far, also has anyone been able to overclock the pci-e bus?
Hornet331,
where is download link?
Btw,this I know from yesterday and is in test
Hmm, seems jz hasn't uploaded them.
I thought he already did, since he usually announces it, if he don't uploads them. (Usually you can select the version in the drop down menu at the bottom of the page).
Well, guess we have to wait for another source.
Now can be download from TT Forum
what is the best my dominator 1600 c8 on this board with a 920, currently its at stock timings. I see a lot of folk with much better specs than the dominator
so the question is can my dominators dominate, and to check i need your help.
Has anybody attained higher clocks on F5 compared to F4?
Right now, I am running the same OC as my last post but using F5 Final BIOS. When I go to shut sown the computer, it turns off normally, but it fires right back up again. I read online that this could be the LAN, so I disabled wake-on for both LAN ports through device manager, and I even disabled them in the BIOS. Nothing seems to work; the computer will not stay shut off. It did this in the F6A BIOS as well. It is driving me NUTS.
EDIT: This seems to be working, taken from http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/19...own-bios-error
I think this is the registry entry I changed to fix the problem, but as outlined on this page, some people were unable to boot after using it, so proceed at your own risk:
Start Regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Set the value of PowerDownAfterShutdown to 1.
Has anyone tried running the 6GB Patriots on this board? I have two kits that I have been pulling my hair out with. I am talking about the PVT36G1600LLK kit....Not a single stick out of six will run stable at rated speeds/timings....
I have 6GB of patriot installed on my motherboard. It's running at 1660Mhz @ 1.6v, ~1.32 Uncore (I think???). Passes memtest, IBT, Prime95 (blend) with flying colours. It is only with the final F5 bios that I have been able to get this Ram running at above 1333MHz without the double boot problem. Also the Patriot XMP profiles don't show up on the EX58-Extreme, Patriot know of this problem as I have been speaking to them about it. This is what they told me
Only problem is that I would have to send my RAM to America (I live in Australia) and I would be without a computer. It's not like I need the XMP profiles anyway, it's not like it's hard to set it manually.Quote:
"Be very honest with you we can’t wait for Gigabyte to fix the issue with the BIOS so we have also been working to see if we can get around and fix the gigabyte issue by changing around some settings in the module eeprom. We have developed a new eeprom program that gets around the Gigabyte issue.
I’ll be more then happy to reprogram your modules and test to make sure it is bypassing the Gigabyte issue with XMP.
Yep, its Uncore at 2x Mem + 1 click.
I disabled a few more of the options, leaving on C1 and MT only for now.
I was able to adjust my timings down and then back up to 3.6 and then up again to 3.66 and then 3.8 on a slightly higher voltage of 1.325 with the Gskill in place, so perhaps my move to 6a has helped with overall stability. Im almost getting bold enough to try to push higher with the full set of RAM to see how high I can go, but after months of frustration, no more double boot errors and all that riot, I am finally happy with my machine and don't want to tinker that much more! Thanks again for the help to get me back up and oC'ing again
Does anybody experience a vdrop in the CPU with the F6A bios. Oh BTW is a UD5 board
Hey fellas does any one suppose that this could be a useful thread for me? I am using a UD4P with little OCing luck. I do not want to waste any ones time here and that is the point of asking. Is there enough similarities between the two boards to make use of this thread?
XMP profiles work really good on the OCZ sticks that come with them too.
Unfortunately my luck of the draw with the CPU wasn't as good, seems this one hits a BCLK wall above 190, more voltage doesn't even help. Maybe with HT off I could squeeze 10 more out of it, but the tradeoff isn't worth it for me.
So far I'm having better results with F6C. I'm at 196x21 20 passes of max memory load intel burntest @1.36v will try some lower volts tonight. Temps are 73-75c maxon air.
IM using F5 official, loving it so far.
Can anyone give me some feedback. It always seems that I get ignored on the site LOL. Seriously though I never seem to get straight answers around here. I guess I am just too spoiled from the guys over at OCN LOL. They know me over there so maybe that has something to do with it.
what are you guys' max bclk? I hit a brick wall at 222 which is 4ghz qpi link speed. Freezes immediately
It seems that the f6c and f6d are more stable with my chip than most of the other bios updates. I have also found that f4j and m also work alright just not as easy to get a stable over clock. Right now I am running 193x21 @ 1.5125v in bios. Still trying to get the best possible cpu score on 3dmark 06. I put this chip onto a EVGA EX58 Board and got some pretty good numbers on the cpu. I am still having problems duplicating that on the ex58-Extreme:confused:
For your infos:
Q-Flash seems to be buggy with F6d.
I tried to revert back to an older BIOS, and System hangs after new Bios verification (just before being able to accept the Flash).
@Bios fixed it for me, but awdflash on a bootable CD should also work in case...
http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/ex58...ta-bios-30800/
Well spoke too soon, my bios (F6C) went nuts last night. I.E
It started to give me checksum errors and on a black screen weird characters and a non stopping dash accross the screen. I flashed back to F5G the systems went to black screen and gave me the message of rebuilding bios once that finished it rebooted itself and all was fine. uppsssss I thought I lost the board.
back to F5G with 200x21 HT on 1.39v load
YIKES!
Thanks for letting us know. I've been flashing almost every beta released over the past couple of months trying to get things ironed out. Now that everything is stable, figure I will stick with 6a unless some significant reason to change presents itself.
I still wait for a bios beside F4j where S3 works with oc. :D
I hope F6e fix this annoying error.
Finally hit 4.0Ghz!!
http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...ench168/40.jpg
fafeifa i really think you should use another Oc under 4ghz so you could lower the vcore and the temps along with it as they're pretty high!
I know i was just trying to see if i could hit the 4.0ghz barrier, but now trying to stablize to bring down the temps of this beast, i only need 1.34v for 3.8Ghz so i dont know what settings to change. I'm using the latest F6C bios for the UD5
My cooler is Noctua NH-U12p. I may have to lap the cpu and hsf
Hello all of you..
Tomorrow im going to set the gigabyte x58 extreme up. So was wondering what bios version is the best atm? My specs are:
12 GB Corsair Dominator 8-8-8-24 1T
1 4870x2
1 samsung 750 spinpoint
965 core i 7 extreme
noctua cpu cooler
cosmos S case
TT 1.5 kW power
Wow nice specs there, But i don't think you'll achieve high clocks with all 6 sticks of ram in use. The fan of the cooler will block the closest ram bay so running 6 may be tricky. The i7s oc is limited by the cooling, a simple 920 can reach 4.2ghz with some tweaking but since you have a 965 it'll be a good idea to get a WC kit. The F6 bios has been working pretty good for me. Good luck.

With a 965 - you should be able to use 6x2gb much easier than those with 920 and 940 because you can keep the mem speeds and qpi speeds down.
I have used 30x134 for 4.02 with 6x1gb no problem.
Also 35x123 for 4.3 ht on with the same 6 sticks of mem - and they are not even matching memory - 3 are 1066 the other 3 are 2000.
The 965 gives you a lot more wiggle room for ocing the proc.
Now ocing the memory is a whole different ball game - there you may have some challenges
Mem speeds can even be down with a 920 (my 12gb run only with 1200 cl7 cause with tripple channle they have more then enough bandwidth ;) ).
The only advantage of a extreme this time is the qpi limit, thought on air (and even on water) theres next to no difference from a 920 to a 965.
Beta BIOS for GA-EX58-Extreme F6e
This should fix the S3 sleep issues, hopefully.
Please Do keep in mind there is currently possible issues with Qflash starting with F6d as reported by several users, and this is being tested. So please only flash this bios using @BIOS or a DOS Based flash such as FlashSPI as the issue may or may not persist thru to this BIOS.

So what are your settings that keeps you stable at that speed. Really 200Mhz is my goal. Unfortunately I cannot get anything over 180Mhz bclk and I need 1.4 volts minimum to keep it stable. Currently I am deciding to get a new MB and sell this one. I am only 5 days out of my Newegg warranty. The board works fine just doesn't OC as well as I like.
So far I have tried 185-210Mhz and failed. I tried different multipliers, and have tried every QPI/VTT voltage from 1.28-1.42. My CPU is stable at 3.8, and I have tried it without Turbo and HT. I tried LLC on and off, vcore up to 1.4v, PLL up to 1.84v, I make sure that the uncore is 2x+1 higher than my RAM. I really have tried everything short of adjusting REF voltage, and clock scews.

are these boards better then the Asus P6T?
These are the settings that've worked best for me. I find that it's my processor that isn't so great (all are different, as you often hear) as opposed to the board.
i7 920 on an EX58-Extreme, F6E BIOS:
BCLK: 194
Intel Turbo: Enabled (to get 21x)
HT: Disabled (too hot with it Enabled)
Bidirectional PROCHOT: Disabled
(to keep from dropping the 21x multi down -- runs 24/7)
Core Mult @ 21x = 4074
QPI Link @ 36x/2 = 3492
Uncore Mult @ 16x = 3104 (my IMC won't do 3298 and I find 2xRAM is stable anyway)
RAM Mult @ 8x = 1552
Load Line Cal: Enabled
CPU PLL: 1.84
CPU Vcore: 1.45 (seriously -- can't get to 4.0/4.1+ w/o it)
QPI/Vtt: 1.395
QPI PLL: 1.14
DRAM: 1.64
IOH Core: 1.30
ICH I/O: 1.58
ICH Core: 1.16
I have a Noctua NH-12 with push/pull fans installed. Max temps hit 83°C in RealTemp 3.00, but the average max temp is really more around 77°. Max temps of 85° are my self-imposed limit, and that's really the only reason I think I can't get more than 4.1GHz out of this chip -- gets too hot with all the extra required voltage. I'd have to go to water to go any higher.
RAM is Corsair CM3X2G1600C9. I have it at set to the default XMP settings (turn XMP profile on and set everything manually to the left side settings then turn it back off) and the bank-to-bank refreshes are set fixed at #1. 58, #2. 60, #3. 62. I couldn't boot without setting those manually -- it would always stick at the code for "Turn on L2 cache" (b9 or 69)
Grab the UD5, the silent pipe is just really bling. Might drop temps 2 or 3c and so I hear most of the wb leak lol
