Come on guys how ungrateful and impatient can you be, he just said he got a card and plans on showing some numbers. Then everyone gets on the tip of their chairs, putting their patience to the test and getting grumpy after a while. That's all very understandable and all, but this is not a matter of life or death, it's just about some graphics card performance. There is no need to get angry at OBR for taking a while with his benches.
This is all until OBR posts that he can't post benches and then a lot of you guys start getting really mad at him, almost sending him a 'bullet letter' so to speak. He is probably trying to protect that person from whom he got his card as he probably is under NDA. Something he most likely didn't really take into consideration when he told us he was coming with some benches. I have no doubts about him having the cards and I also don't like the fact that he first said he'd come with benches only to fool us but this is no reason to start hating him. These kind of things are probably not completely his fault, I think he simply acted a little too hasty.
All I'm trying to say is that some peoples reactions are a little out of proportions so to speak, I won't be explicitly calling any names though. (It's mainly the most recent members, think November 2007 and up.)

pb= proprietary bridge
This proprietary bridge can be of much higher speed than what PCIe can offer. The connection provided by this will not be enough to do memory sharing but it will make better cooperation between the chips possible, things like inter-frame changes and such. This will make it easier to even make DX10 games scale better than before but it will still be rather driver reliant but to a lesser extent.
All of this is just some sort of guess of mine though, I have no extensive information on the patents in AMDs possession or knowledge on these kind of things, but I think it's more viable than shared memory in the way you portrayed it

When you know this game no longer has legs, you tell us you can't do it anymore and feel like a bigger man because you have privileges. And you just created a swarm of "cry babies" who envy the information you have.

You failed at least in my eyes as a journalist(because you didn't act professional. If you couldn't say, you shouldn't tease everyone like your are gonna to say something).
And to some extent a hardware enthusiast. Alot of people want to see the specs and the ones that cannot wait are the probaly some of the biggest enthusiast there are. Although we might not get crazy hardware for free or early, it doesn't mean we don't love this stuff as much as you. You should know that doing this type of stuff kind of rattles us because its genuinely hard for us to wait for this stuff, especially since its been hyped up so much.

What's amazing about those scores is that the 980GTX scores ~230 and the 9800GX2 ~380 or so. If the 4870 really is 20-30% faster than the 4850, it could match the 9800GX2 in pure theoretical ALU power.
Obviously doesn't translate into games immediately but it has a LOT of processing power (800 SP's seems likeliest now).

The 4850 uses lower bandwidth due to 256 bit-wide + GDDR3 and frequency, so that should imply on a lower performance than 4870. The 4850 probably could not have shaders being disabled due to performance issues and competition. The best bet was to keep its design and performance being controlled by its bandwidth and frequency. A 4850 overclocked with a GDDR5 would be interesting.Quote:
