Good to see a low price, I'm highly skeptical for ATI not jacking up the prices. But pricing higher is not the only way to make profit. Good.;)
Their low pricing and the time advantage should be enough, specially for early adapters. Clever way to start and wait for the competition(GT300).
From a customer's standpoint.
Guess I'll just have to pick a GTX275 next month. There's no need for me to be an early adapter.
I'll just grab a Hemlock or a GT300(whatevers fast for the money) when there are 2 choices available.
So no DX11 card for me this year. Grid2 is just 1 title(I can pass for months).
Umm, the flops performance is a function of the shader amount and its clockspeed. Indeed HD 4870 has 2.5 times the shaders of HD 3870, but its clockspeed is actually a bit lower (750 MHz vs 775 MHz). If this Cypress XT (HD 5870) gets a healthy boost in clockspeed as the node shrink warranted, the flops performance can get bigger than the added amount of shaders in its chip suggested. :)Quote:

At the end of the day, I wont jump straight on it. Truth be told I'll wait for sata3/usb3/cheaper ssds... because I have to use the same system for things other than games. I fear more that the first batch of motherboards with these features will have such things connected poorly such that they operate much slower than they should more than I worry about ATI's next gen.
Whatever video card is fastest when a motherboard with those features comes out, is what I will get.
On a side note.. I would have assumed in X2 setups (never owned one) that one card can practically shut off completely when not gaming. Given all the whinging about multi card setups and drivers, why not get a mobo with 2x16 slots and just crossfire? That way you can always sell the second vid card if it doesnt work out for you. Less board options / less power consumption at load?

Whether holding back would let them hurt nvidia with a second wave or just tick off their customers more, I've no idea. Marketing may be the decider of that (average joe "dx11 ooh" vs xtremesystems kinda ppl focusing on real numbers)
when has ati recently ever jacked the prices up, do you not remember the hd4850 and 4870 they were both priced so aggressively, and they preformed so damn well causing nvidia to slash there prices....i wouldn't expect anything less....it fits perfectly into what they priced there 4800 series last year...and it seems like the performance jump will be the same or a little higher...so i think we are all in for a treat :up:Quote:
